Wish I could visit east coast one day.

You were doing so well until you got to Quebec. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE Quebec and I can barely speak enough French to get a hotel room and a meal, but in major cities like Montreal and Quebec City plenty of people in the service industry speak better English than most of us do. The one problem is.....TAXES. Unless you are looking for socialist utopia where daycare is cheap you are likely to find them kinda oppressive. I grew up in Northner Ontario, worked in BC, Quebec, NB, Ontario and Alberta and have visited the rest of the provinces and NWT. Yukon and Nunavut still to go on my bucket list..... Personally, I love the people of Newfoundland the best, the scenery of BC the best and the taxes of Alberta the most. I could be happy living anywhere here now that I am retired but I have settled in New Brunswick for the cost of living. Plane tickets are cheap if I feel the need for a change of scenery.

After 12 years living in Quebec, I can only agree this province is probably the best one to live in, especially if you speak French. The language, the culture, the safety, the architecture (especially Québec City and Montréal but elsewhere too), the natural landscapes (Charlevoix, Gaspésie, Mauricie, Saguenay, Estrie...), the St-Laurence river, the great location in Northeastern Canada bordering 4 US states (New York State, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine - insert a hiker's bias here), the relatively low-cost of higher-education and excellent universities...In spite of the downsides that anyone could point out, it is still a great place to live and raise a family.

This list is very well put together! If you take the time to learn French, Quebec is truly one of the most special places you could live!!

I’m a tech professional from INDIA. Carrying 3+ years of experience working for Top MNC. Since there’s a lot of competition for on-site opportunity, I’m planning to leave my job and Move to Canadian for a job search. However, one thing is pulling me, 40% tax is not a small thing. Canada is what you make of it. You can arrive rich and end up poor and you can arrive poor and end up rich. In between that, you can have a great life that balances your needs. I’ve seen immigrants succeed simply because they see the opportunity in front of them . They worked hard in their own counties to stay just above the poverty line ,but when they apply that same effort here it pays off ten times greater. I feel that compared to a lot of immigrants, natural born Canadians come across as spoiled and a little lazy…we are. We haven’t had to struggle the same way someone from a poorer country might have. I’ve talked to people who’ve worked ten to twelve hours a day just to stay afloat. If you did that here you could make plenty of money to live and have some left over. As far as owning a house goes,yes it’s expensive . I feel that homeownership in any country is relatively expensive. Here is a tip; use that soaring home prices to your advantage. Houses are expensive but you can make a lot of money buying and selling. I recommend putting together a buyers group and share the house for a few years, then sell at a profit, buy a bigger house or two smaller houses.try to buy the worst house in the best neighbourhood and fix it up slowly . That house could double in value in five or six years in the Toronto market. This is nothing new of course ,the people from India and China seem to do this a lot here ,it drives up prices and profits. On the downside to this ,you are now part of the problem. As the housing prices are driven up the non wealthy can no longer afford to own a house . They are at the mercy of high rents with no rewards of ownership. They are caught in a cycle of hard work and (relative)poverty. This could also be you if you can’t keep up the house payments and are forced to rent.\nHow well you speak English is important but your native language is also useful here because Canada is half immigrants . As a Canadian that speaks only english (Irish descent)I have to say to all newcomers that I’m very impressed that you have learned a new language and that you may even speak more than two! Don’t be embarrassed about your abilities . I find that in my experience , Canadians do not look down on people just because they don’t know English. In fact ,I’ve known people that have lived here for decades and still know very little English. They are comfortable in their communities and they function just fine. Learn as much English as suits your needs and be proud of any gains you make.\nOutside of Toronto are other cities that you might consider when looking at southern Ontario.From my experience,most are generally the same, just not as big . There are large immigrant communities in London Ontario, Hamilton and just outside of Toronto where housing is just a little bit less expensive but the commute to work is probably longer. This is just my opinion but in the small towns there are less people of colour , (which is what people of no colour call everyone else . I wonder if I’m called a person of no colour in some other culture ? LoL ). That might make it harder for you to feel integrated ,if that’s what you want. I’m not saying that people from other cultures can’t make it in a small town , I’m just saying that it’s definitely not Toronto . Here, people of any nationality can feel like they have a place where they can belong . It seems that no matter where you are from ,there is a community already here that’s set up restaurants and stores and clothing shops and newcomer support systems. And if your from Portugal or China or India or Africa or the Middle East, there are large groups of your kin here that have established roots for generations and you probably know this already.\nToronto means meeting place and that becomes evident quickly. I was born here and it’s one of the things I love the most about my city. I’m not going to say that there isn’t systemic racism here ,the people of no colour still kind of keep the top position , but as we become a minority in a decade or so ,I hope that will shift to a broader spectrum. It’s certainly happening already. One good thing is that the police department tries to hire people of colour so that racialism may play a smaller role. We’re getting used to seeing our politicians more and more reflect their constituents.\nI have to talk about the weather. Because I’m from here I’m used to the extremes of minus thirty and plus thirty . Eventually you get used to it (somewhat). Dressing in the right clothes is important. Summer is easy , but winter is different. It’s trying to kill you. Spend the most that you can afford on winter cloths . If you can afford a quality parka you should get one. The hood can be drawn around the face and stay out of the wind.\nIf not ,think of layers with a outer layer that blocks the wind. We have things called long Johns that are basically full length thick cotton or nylon pants that go on under your pants and a pair of extra thick socks. Buy your boots to fit your thick socks. Try to get the best boots you can afford ,it’s something that you might spend a little extra for but never regret.\nAll in all we are a fairly organized and peaceful society. Most people are friendly and will give you a chance . We have a good social safety net here and you don’t have to be homeless or starving if you don’t want to. There are people and organizations set up to help ,that truly try to get people back on their feet. It’s a good investment that pays off in ways that matter for the quality of life in a big city. I’m not putting my American neighbours down when I say they do things differently. They have their ways ,we have ours. This is just something that we do because we’re trying to learn how to help those that society has discarded or can’t find their place. Sure we have one or two areas where the homeless have pitched tents and we have some resources for them if they want. Unfortunately The mayor recently forced a small camp to move from a very visible place to more scattered locations. There were social workers involved as well as protesters trying to protect them. I didn’t like that happening and I want to see even more resources dedicated to them ,but on the other hand ,we are trying to avoid something like what happens on the streets when it’s just ignored. When I see YouTube videos of the streets of Philadelphia I’m extremely saddened. I thank the lucky stars that I was born in Toronto Canada.\nFor all it’s pollution and expense and crowds ,I think it’s a great place to do almost anything your heart desires . For every ugly building there is a beautiful park ,for every honked horn there is a birds call , for every cold and dark day there is beautiful sunny one around the corner.

I was wondering if you could make a video of what would be the best school in Canada Toronto in order to study English, I have looked over finding several schools such as EF, KAPLAN, EC English, ILSC, CES, among many others, but honestly as a mexican results me very hard to choose the best one, take in consideration budget, and quality of learning, would be great if you tell us where did you learn English in Canada, because your English grammar, speaking and fluency is awesome...

Nice one ?. You forgot to mention that in Canada you have only 2 or max 3 weeks holidays per year while many countries like in The UK or Europe you could enjoy 5 weeks at least. ?

I grew up in Edmonton and left Canada 30 years ago because the Edmonton Police simply would not leave me alone. I couldn't even drive my car around the block without winding up in a courtroom. The police harassed my parents for years after I left hoping to find me. (i.e. STAASI). Now I live in subtropical Australia and still drive the same Oldsmobile. I never have legal problems here and at one stage owned three houses. In Canada I am labelled as a racist but here I have a Chinese wife and my daughter is fluent in Mandarin. The reason that taxes are so high in Canada is that Multiculturalism costs money. Every time some monument or cultural center is built, someone has to pay for it. My greatest disdain of Canadian society is the political correctness. I remember before 1984 when one could tell a joke without fear of incrimination.

Our Lord Jesus Christ was asked what it really mean to love your neighbor?  So He told a story about a weary traveler who was robbed, beaten and left alone alongside of the road (Luke 10:25-37). I know it won’t be easy but, Toronto has a lot of resources for immigrants and even undocumented immigrants. I worked for a shelter and although it was the only one that takes undocumented families, you learn there are resources out there. \nIt’s about aligning yourself with the right community support Center, finding the people who will fight for you. There are so many people here who welcome and want to help all types of immigrants. No matter your background.\nThe people who work helping these communities they are ruthless in their fight for citizenship, or at least finding you a job and home, they will guide you through the system. Social workers, ones in community resource centres, not government centres, will be your best friend. They know where the red tape is and the resources available to you. \nYou could even go to a specific shelter to t all out your options and where you could go to get help.\nI understand this is not ideal. \nBut, if you want to be here, your best friends are non-profits, finding a center that aligns with your story, your background, because they will fight for you. We have people here from every country and resource centres geared towards your own language, religion etc.\nAnother big way to set yourself up for success. Churches, rich churches to be specific. \nMy mom works in a very rich church and it helps them feel better about themselves helping people, you could be nice enough to alleviate their guilt through their wallets, and connections. Under the table work, shelter, space for your family, set you up, they might even have the lawyers you need pro Bono in those rich churches. Church shopping, do not be above it if you don’t have resources. You don’t just get help, you build a community and support system through a common bond, the church. \nI know these aren’t revolutionary tips, but without specifics of your background it’s hard (for me specifically) to give specific advice online as to what services could be provided for you.\nIt’s kind of like a doctors appointment. You need background info to diagnose the resources for you and how to access that help.

This is the fault of the government of all these countries. From the beginning they have made law enforcement and the general population to be scared they will offend Muslims rather than being allowed to accept and treat them as they would other members of society. Hi Jason @Dream Canda, is it difficult to obtain PNP visas as there is no notification of when they open the window for PRs and one has to sit in front of computer for hours together to see when the PR application window will open? I use to be an imagrant in Canada but I’ve been living here for 8 years so I got my passport and citizenship and it’s fun here just very cold I’ve been here for 8 years I can withstand the could but some people can’t in the winter so that’s one of the immigrantion problems in Canada it’s super cold so come in the summer

Which test should I take? \n\n2.If my application has been rejected can I apply for it again?\n\n3.Based on your experience what would be the Canadian equivalent of a three yr course of B.com in India?\n\n4. Wow I realize how oblivious I am when out in public. Makes me wonder how many times I get racially profiled. While I can recognize there is racism, there are various factors involved for people’s behaviours. There will be people who are very clear with their message but maybe the others could be because of natural human social normalcy. I’d be interested to see an experiment by asking people to decide who are more trustworthy based on what is normal in their society, choosing between two different photos. One with full face covering and the other completely exposed.

A society where people are not allowed to carry any tools to defend themselves. The police didnt even get there a day later. what a joke. The police will protect you they say. This lady could have gotten hurt or even killed. Canada is a joke. Asians here in the US are all carrying defensive tools such as pepper spray and firearms. To me, it looks like Vice is really trying to pull the emotional card to get people to sympathize with this man because he really is in a rough situation. But, he is in a situation of his own making. It sounds like he had not done any prior research about Canada before deciding to claim refugess status. Yes, Trudeau was not giving the full truth when he made those public announcements to the media. Yes, people (educated or not) can be swayed by words of leaders they respect. But, to think you can just enter another country and claim refugee status without understanding what that actually entails is very naive. Canada has very transparent laws that are easily accessable in a multitude of different languages. The provinces also have legal assistance for those who can not afford lawyers. So, the fact that this man was able to spent $15,000 when he is being portrayed as a low income earner makes me question his income, or if he was even aware that he could apply for legal assistance. And since he has a lawyer who has been working his case, I would like to assume that the lawyer would have said something about assistance.\n\nI really want to be sympathetic for this man and his family, because security uncertainty makes life extra hard. But, as I have had to live in more than one country due to the Canadian immigration system refusing my husband due to a very old DUI (which has set our life on a completely different plan than anticipated), I have a very hard time being sympathetic when I feel as though they did not reach out to educated themselves on the laws of another country. I am a Canadian who currently can't live in Canada with my husband of 3 years and I still don't hate my country. I respect the hell out of it (this is not to get into our historic treatment of BIPOC, which deserves it's own seperate time and is a bloody stain on our land's history.)

They do not apply for citizenship because many of them have criminal records and they are not the person that they said that they were. \nA neighbor talked about some warrants left in front of the mailboxes at an apartment complex, and it showed about 6 different warrants for 6 different people that seemed to reside in one tiny apartment; that neighbor noted that could be six different people or those could be the aliases of one person. The names on those warrants had different Spanish names printed on them, but they each had a similar middle name to those other names.

Racism was far more prevalent in Canada decades ago. I remember hearing stories from my aunts and uncles about the types of things that would happen when they first arrived in the country. People would heckle and threaten visible minorities. \n\nBut I can say I have personally never experienced systemic racism in Canada. This country gave my family and I opportunity, safety and a just system. I was born and raised in Canada, and this is my home. There is no other country I would want to live in.\n\nLong live Canada and what it stands for. God bless this land.\n\n\nEdit: I forgot to add that the post secondary program I graduated from had a disproportionately high percentage of students belonging to visible minorities. This is the case with similar programs across Canada. One could argue Caucasian students are grossly underrepresented in this program. Does this not fit the definition of systemic racism stated in this video?

No one ever talks about their personal responsibilities to being a honest,contributing member of society. It is such a glass half empty attitude. Where on this planet could you have as much opportunity to create success for yourself and your community than here?

To me all racism could be stopped. It starts in the home. Love one another. Communicate, when you do most always you have common interests . Then something great happens....

Targeting because of skin colour is wrong of course.\n I am not offended when asked to open my bags before I leave a store. But being white, I don't experience racism so I guess my perspective is different. I could see that being a slipery slope though, when one has to prove everything in a bag was purchased elsewhere.\n I enter stores sometimes with two bike paniers full of gear for the changing weather. \nIf there was a safe place to secure bags at the entrance, I wouldn't be offended to leave it there.But stores wouldn't want that cause that cost money. Instead we criminalize people, particularly people of colour.

Racism is more in the open now, I am a senior and really do not know what words they use to discriminate these days, however my husband and I were walking in Walmart one day, then in between the aisles a disabled youth was walking with his mother and was coming towards us, then he said look, look a cockroach and pointed at us. My husband looked at me and I looked at him, no one else around,we realized he was calling us cockroach, needless to say, we thought hmmm, that person could hardly walk and he is calling us cockroach. We walked out of the store totally shocked. I was later told young people are getting their info from the dark web. We called it ignorance and left it that.

I am very familiar with the “name discrimination “; although I am white and very European-having been born and Educated in Eastern Europe-I have had resumees ignored, or dismissed despite my qualifications, simply because the HR person could not read (or spell) anything beyond one or two syllables! I don’t like some of the set ups here. Leland was watched pretty heavily in the Regina Shoppers Drug Mart. But he’s wearing a backpack over one shoulder and shopping with a reusable bag too. That is a very common theft opportunity there as products placed in reusable bags appear to be bought when proceeding through cash registers. Also side bags and half strapped on back packs are very common concealing equipment for theft. It is very common for security and staff to watch people exhibiting those signs. In fact they are trained to do exactly that. Also, he was frequenting areas with high theft products like baby formula. It’s not unreasonable to follow that kind of behaviour. Sure there could be some racial bias at play but I would follow anyone regardless of race given the same body language and equipment I observed with Leeland. A very leading story, to be sure.

A small step but really great . You would think we as human with our high intelligence could know how closely related we all are but for some strange reason we cannot understand. I remember working in Macy’s and one day I was talking to a co-worker and I was saying how science has proven at one point or another everyone came from Africa . She said maybe me but not her. She was from Ecuador . I have one child and when he was 12 he truly did not see difference with anyone and I hope that feeling will be with him forever.

I wish a was black. I could easily get a scholarship if I’m black and I could easily get into great companies as they try to fill positions for diversity reasons. \nI had 2 black friends. One was very smart and deserved the degree, he’s running for the valedictorian. My other black friend admited to me that he shouldn’t pass the course, as he’s pretty lazy and I knew it as his friend, and profs talk med to him to find ways, he also got the same degree.

8:17 BEST BUY Hello people Just before the COVID 19 pandemic struck our Country, in the United States of America. My son and I were shopping at Best Buy. We had more than five or six different people ask if we needed assistance. My Son would say no thanks, and I would ask each one that did ask if I needed help, to help me. That associate would show me where to look, then try real hard to get away from me. This happened at least five to six times. All six times, I said yes. Finally, they stopped asking me and continued to ask my son. The reason my son would say no thanks is because he was just looking. I, on the other hand, had questions about what I wanted to buy. They did a great job answering all of my questions, however, when it came to buying what I wanted to buy most of all of the associates had either left the area or went home, because I could not find anyone when it came down to purchasing the items I wanted, only to find out what I wanted was made in China, They no longer carry the product, in their stores, or online. However, they still had the items on display; however, you just could not buy them. P.S. We are white.

The white guy they used in these test is a lot more socialable looking than I am and I am sure I would get the same treated I am even being white.\nI also worked for best buy and was told to ask people if there was something I could help them with if they look suspicious and standing in one place by a shelf is just one of those things. That is just common practice.

Hey Drew, great video, I can't comment on the US side but since I'm Canadian, here is a few things I could clarify:\n1. Football isn't really big in Canada, some people watch it but it's not really popular. Soccer isn't big either but more people follow it.\n2. While Canada has a few political parties, it's essentially a 2 party, plus system. Where only the two major parties are ever in power, and a few extra ones are just there.\n3. From what I know tipping is big in Canada but a bit less then in the US, in most restaurants it's acceptable to tip 13%\n\nOverall great video, stay safe!\nChag sameach

You’re our neighbors (the state of Tennessee USA here) and we see you’re having to put up with everything the Democrats want to do to us if they come into power this November. (The only way they could do that is voter fraud, which is exactly what happened in what we call the mid-term elections in November 2018, when some House of Representatives and Senate seats come open in the two-year cycle halfway thru the Presidential elections - that’s how they won the House back) \n\nThat poor displaced family, though.
