I came to Canada to travel but on an immigration visa in 1965, I got a job from Canada employment centre for 1.50 where nobody spoke english , I quit after 1 day. A week later I found a job in the machineshop for 3.00 Dollars. Good thing the foreman found a portugiese employee who translated from spanish to english, I myself spoke german, ever since then I did I was on the upswing. The government gave me nothing, had enough money to go back. Always a dictionary in my pocket. In six weeks i know enough english to make the driverlicence and bought a car.

I went to canada with my family when i was 6 years old i thought it was so beautiful the native americans treated us with kindness my dad bought me some moccisens there. A chinese immagrant restaurant owner was nice to us the white people many of them wrent very nice this was in 1969 in the summer but i loved the wilderness and wanted to go back and see the indians. I was a dreamer. Unfortenately and through my own fault after i got out of the military honerably discharged . I got a dui again it was my stupidity but i payed my fine did my jail time and got educated about not drinking and driving. It is not a felony i the US but it is in Canada so canada gets ahold of my driving records maybe they hacked in. And said i could not go into canada. I noticed they let george w. Busch in though oh well i dont think canada even pretends fainess under the law . Any way they are now letting elligals into canada and giving them a hotel room . The duplicity is absurd personally i no longer want to go to canada for anything i think the wall should be put on the northern border. When it came to our driving records there is no border does my information belong to a foriegn country? As US citizens do you think your information belongs to a other country?

I was once escorted back home by a police officer i was warming up my dads cadilac the officer asked for id when i told him i was warming up my dads car because he was sick he told me lets go talk to him when i said i lived in a building were it was mostly jewish people he said yea right theres no spanish people living there when i got to my appointment my mom said whats going on i quickly said he said no spanish people lived here the cop turned brite red and said i just had to make sure he was saying the truth and walked away

Its impossible in Van unless you are an Arab exchange student lol \nArab and Persian students studying english have no issues renting in Vancouver, for some reason!!\n\nI lived out the St. Regis downtown for a month, Looking for places to rent, i had seen so many places online and filled out applications but never got call backs, asides from 2 group showings i went to, i could not even set up a viewing with the apartment building i wanted... \n\nTill i met an african girl in school, and she told me something i found completely crazy.\nShe told me to make a new e-mail addy and to use my English name when i e-mail, then set up a viewing but to show up with a white friend preferably a girl and that if the owner is asian, i should look around, and offer to pay 6months upfront before they get a chance to ask what i did for work or whether i was a student or not LOL. Needless to say, i did what she said and It worked the asian lady asked me to come get the keys later that day. Its just life, as a property owner they really just wanna size you up, not fair and kind of pathetic but its not inherently evil...

Brother, you are lucky that you got a part-time job in Canada Post. I have been in Canada for 7 years and I started working in a Hasty Market for $4 an hour and that was night shifts. I have spent days without drinking water, food is way far. Today I have my family here (Wife and Brother) and I always smile when I think about the day I spent without water. Before I moved to Brampton, I had no idea HOW MANY Indians actually lived here. I'm of south Asian descent but I grew up here as a Canadian. I still keep my culture but I'm Canadian FIRST. It's true too, some of them don't believe in deodorant, holy shit I literally had to tell a guy who sat beside me on the bus that he smelled. I know it was rude but if someone doesn't tell these people, they will think not wearing deodorant is normal. I miss the Canada I grew up in. My friends were mostly white but there was a nice mix of us: white, black, asian so we all got along. Today, everyone is in their own groups, strangers are the enemy, there is so much more segregation than there has ever been. Not long ago at a Tim Hortons I heard an Indian guy who was clearly new to the country telling his friend he didn't have to learn English because everyone in Brampton speaks Punjabi, it was insulting hearing that.....Listen up Indians and any immigrants coming here: BEFORE you come here, learn English, LEARN the customs and learn the CANADIAN WAY. You owe it to Canada, give something back before you start taking.

I think we should help people. I’m an immigrant and my parents got their passage paid but also had to pay it back. Which we did, but still waiting for our $50,000 cheque. My Dad got a job in a town which had low rent. We were a family of five not living in a hotel but part of an army barracks. We were out in the country which freedom for all the kids. Free schooling,dental and Dr and cheep food. Where was this? You ask. Burwash, ont. A self sufficient industrial prison farm. We had a great childhood there. But the govt closed it because it was out of the way for inmates relatives to visit.

It's hard for a native Indian to get a job. I am clean-cut, well dressed and non drinking. I put resumes for a year at every job that came across my path that was a possibility. No one called me back. Most of time they didn't bother to attempt a serious interview. Finally got a job with native organization which I didn't go to school for. I am certified in Office Admin. but cook and clean house.

Let's put it another way... I was born in Canada and I had moved abroad at 30 for work and was gone for about 10 years. When I got back, it happened to be the same year our PM was waiting at the airport for the arrival of some refugees with winter coats for them and their Medicare cards, as well as housing provided for them. I had to run around for a full month trying to get my drivers license renewed since it had expired, and had to wait a full 6 months to get a probationary Medicare card, p-r-o-b-a-t-i-o-n-a-r-y....I felt outraged. I am not saying that many don't have a valid reason to flee their country, but when they know that they will receive housing and cash, of course people will flock to Canada, even if they aren't fleeing something.

walmart is trash. I got asked for my receipt (only me!). I handed him the receipt but didn't offer my shopping bag. I just kept holding. I looked at him, he looked and me then he looked at my receipt then handed it back. Funny because it took me months to find an apartment when I was single, people just never called me back and acted uninterested despite not knowing my salary or credit score. Meanwhile, my now husband (who's white) went house hunting for us, was able to get responses within a matter of hours. We got a house that same week. Smh
