Listened carefully to everything that was commented on and I too was a little surprised by what I heard. Being from southern Ontario actually near Buffalo and I am close to the USA but I am glad to be in Canada. Many of my friends go to Florida for the winter. They state that they will politely listen to the politics but never chime in with their opinion. The american political situation is very much like the religious situation with the Irish and the Northern Irish Catholics vs the Protestants. Your political separation borders on insanity. The current republicans lie through their teeth and keep repeating those lies. Listening to the Irish is equally exhausting. When I travel to the United States I am always glad to be home when the trip is over. While in America, I find most people are wonderful and we are always treated very well. If the Republicans snap out of it and the gun lobby loses their grip on the narrative that everyone needs a gun I think the attitude of Canadians might change. One thing for sure I am very happy that big brother is right next door and we will never have to deal with what the Ukrainian people are going through. In that instance I am glad that America keeps improving their weapon systems and their innovations and mass military production. \nI am sure there are many lovely places in the USA but the media focuses on the bad news of the day where violence and shootings and political insanity dominate news. Meanwhile most Americans are enjoying their lives in peace.

As a truck driver that has been almost everywhere in the US and Canada I would agree that I would never live in the USA. I do vacation there on occasion, New York, Disney World. There is way too much violence, politics, racism and people are in to much of a hurry to be out front. Everyone seems to need to be number 1. Great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. Ironically I do spend about 8 to 10 days a month working there. I find the people on the west coast of the US friendlier than the east coast. It is the opposite in Canada, east coast friendlier than the west coast. Just my opinion and I have lived on both coasts in Canada.

As a Canadian. Not a snowball's chance in hell. There is nowhere in the USA that Canada doesn't already have. Oh wait, we have FREE healthcare for starters. I don't need to worried about being shot walking down the street in a major city or having my 1st of 4th amendment rights violated by organizations like the ATF or screwball cops who have no clue what the Constitutionally protected rights of your own citizens are (and coming from a Canadian, that alone speaks volumes).\n\nAlso, if your schools need metal detector checkpoints to enter the school, then why would any sane person send their kids to a place where they have to be searched to obtain their education safely?\n\nThe US gun culture makes what should be safe places, completely unsafe to begin with because you never know when that shy easy going person will snap and start shooting people. \n\n\nNope.

Tyler, I can see you are sadden by these reactions and I feel for you. Honestly, I love the USA and I would actually live there in a heartbeat for all the positive reasons I know and love about the US. However, as Mom and a soon to be school age child, I would hesitate because of that. Canada has its own issues and don’t let everyone fool you. It’s not some social utopia. We have problems too just different. It’s like you said you need to pick a good, safe safe to live in. The same advise applies to Canada. Also, Reddit is full of your not so typical Canadians so take with a grain of salt ?

NEVER. I live half the year in the Yucatán in Mexico and ALWAYS a DIRECT flight to and from Canada ?? I dont even like risking flying over the USA in case we need to make an emergency stop In the US.

I'm sure there are places in the USA where I could be happy. You need to consider though that as an foreign worker, the opportunities are in the large centers. You'd have to tough it out in a big city for a while until you could get established, then you could move somewhere more desirable. I had an opportunity a long time ago to work in silicon valley. The pay raise was unthinkable and I was certainly tempted. Then I did the math, it is an extremely expensive place to live, or at least it was at the time. When it was all said and done I would have about the same quality of life (however in a desert, no snow, yay!). I would be thousands of miles from my family and have pretty serious job insecurity. Without citizenship, it could get bad real fast. So it just wouldn't be worth it. Now I'm older and there just no way... Not happening.

Been to USA several times. NYC,Florida,Boston, Virginia (includingDC) Houston, Michigan and LA. Never really had a bad experience except at 6 Flags in Springfield. The teens would walk 6 or 7 abreast and literally run you down. I finally said to my wife we need to stop thinking like Canadians and stand our ground . It worked. My son was 17 at the time and at the end night show was amazed by the rabid cheering as all the branches of the military were named. We always carried extra insurance. Overall We found the people to be really friendly and interested in where we were from. The comment on Nova Scotia was usually “oh wow”. Not sure if they thought we were from the ends of the earth or had no Idea where it was. No i would not live there but the USA is full-of really nice people and it’s a great place to visit.

I have a lot of American friends and some friends live close to the shootings, I feel that Americans are desensitized to the violence. The USA has some pretty sceneries but health care, politics, social welfare, and racism/discrimination are very much more pronounced. I remember visiting Texas and many people carry guns, that scares me because I don't know what their mental health state would be, and if I make a slight mistake and said sorry, would that person shoot me if their mental health state is not that stable? Yes, American gun laws need to be revamped big time for sure.

Maybe Canadians are more concerned about gun violence than Tyler feels they need to be, BUT HERE IS WHY! \n\nAccording to USA today and Forbes magazine there have been more than 300 mass shootings so far this year and 200 people were shot on the 4th of July alone. These articles are dated July, 2023. A mass shooting was defined as 4 or more people killed or injured. There is a bbc article from May 2023 that states 48,830 people died of gun violence in 2021 in the US; that’s the population of a small city in Canada. Half those deaths were suicides, which occur because the guns are available. All of these articles mention the shear number of guns in the US, more guns than people, 120 guns per 100 people. So yes, I think Tyler is exhibiting his American bias and has become desensitized. His statements that it’s only in some places and to choose carefully where you live because violence isn’t every where are not borne out by the stats. These shootings happen in all corners of the country and every time they do people are shocked that it could happen in their safe little town. Think back to Columbine, Sandy Hook, Parkland, Uvalde these were not violent communities yet their schools were targeted. \n\nThe gun culture is high on the list of reasons I wouldn’t move to the US but do is politics, women’s rights, anti 2SLGBTQ legislation, health care, environmental protection laws ( or lack there of), lack of social programs, etc. Canada certainly isn’t perfect but I’ll take it warts and all over a US option. Don’t get me wrong I love to visit the US but living there is a whole different ball of wax. Thanks but no.

No, never. I would NEVER move to the USA. The only kind of weapon a citizen should be able to buy are hunting rifles and hand guns. Both of wich you need special licenses to obtain and can take up to 2 months to get. When guns are the most common way children die, how can you kid yourself it's not a problem. Especially when no other first world country has this problem.

I suggest google’n “ school shootings, small town America”…. article after article, when you do, says why most mass school shootings tend to happen in small towns….where nobody expects that they would have happened & how all the residents in those towns are always surprised that they happened in their town. \nI say this as somebody who once loved the idea of moving to the USA. \nMy mom was a single parent and as a result I spent a ton of time as a very young kid in the late 80s throughout the mid 90s in a small town in Oregon on my aunt and uncles dairy farm with my cousins and I absolutely loved it. Truthfully, I still love small-town America and I love the vast majority of the people I have met from small-town America. There is the friendliness and community that I find very similar to prairie farming towns in Canada. \n And as a kid, I loved the focus on high school sports in the small USA town I spent time in and how it brought the community together. It was very exciting to go to my cousins football games—stuff like that was super fun as a kid.\nAs an adult, with 2 young kids of my own now? \nYes, I would be terrified to send my children to any school in the United States, especially knowing that the vast majority of my school shootings do happen in small towns, which is a type of place in the states I would personally like to go to, if I did move. \n\nAdditionally, I will be completely bankrupt at this point given my own health issues as well as my two kids health issues and I’m just in my late 30s. \nAnd I’m not talking to super crazy health issues, but health issues nonetheless. I have asthma that has gone through patches where I’ve had to be hospitalized & I was diagnosed with stage 3 malignant melanoma when I was in my late 20s and pregnant with my 2nd. My first child was born with a congenital heart disorder that was missed through the pregnancy and until she was two, and that involved many many trips to the hospital & various specialists until they figured out what was going on (one of the symptoms was her randomly stopping breathing and going blue, which was terrifying, and could’ve been for many different reasons & it took many specialists & many hospital visits to figure it all out)\nMy son was born with a multiple protein intolerance and later received an autism diagnosis. There a decent number of hospital visits and specialists for his first couple of years of life too. \n\n I have no idea if I was in the United States how I would’ve paid for any of our health issues (let alone all three of ours) for that 5 or 6 year period where we all needed various types of regular-ish medical care. \n(because we got good medical care, thankfully, none of us have really had to see doctors any more than the average person in the last few years?)\n\nMy kids are now in elementary school, and, as a Canadian, the issue of school shootings happening anywhere….., including in small towns that seem perfectly safe……as well as the cost of healthcare for stuff that is covered by our taxes here in Canada….. are the two biggest reasons that I will think fondly of my time in small-town America, but would never consider moving there

Absolutely not! In Canada we help eachother we have health care for all and we don't need to worry about a child being shot in school with an automatic weapon! To add our law enforcement officers serve and protect ! The USA police are corrupt and certainly dangerous!

Listen... I'm all for helping out fellow human beings but it seems this person was blocking her way which you can see, and she explains that this isn't the first time he's done that! The fact he spoke to her in Indian just shows he is not culturally appropriated to our language or even laws for that matter! Never mind the fact he has packed up and moved his kids and wife assuming! We as long term citizens of our country need to tell our governments we need to focus on our own issues and not just let all these people in! I leave in New Jersey and I pay about $400 a month for health insurance,I also deducted this money when I do my taxes at the end of the year. I got to see great doctors and specialists when I needed without waiting for days. There is no such thing as free health care and doctors. I don’t work for free neither the doctors. As a Canadian here are my views on the problems here:\n1.Government waste/spending\n2. Insane taxes, we literally pay taxes on our tax here. When you add it all up the lower tax brackets after their 15% gst pay about 45% of their income in taxes alone. Provinces like Nova Scotia are disgusting when it comes to the tax they pay. \n3. Easy immigration, we should consider immigrants based on what they can do for Canada, we don't need hundreds of thousands who can't work or refuse to work. It's a strain on the system. The immigration also artificially increases housing costs.\n4.Government corruption, it's part of why the taxes are so high. It's also part of the recent hyperinflation Canada has suffered. Just look up Trudeaus WE charity Scandall or SNC Lavalin Scandal, some even say Trudeau was getting kickbacks from the vaccine which I have yet to see evidence of but I personally believe it. \n5. Politically illiterate voters and propaganda, here in Canada the government likes to keep it's people uninformed and how they do it is through propaganda. The Liberals have every major news source in Canada in their pocket and in order for you to get news that isn't influenced by them you have to specifically search for them by name, those include Rebel News, TFI Global, and True North. Almost everything else is incredibly biased, they selectively report the news and in many cases outright lie. This causes extreme political illiteracy in it's population.\n6. Housing rules, here in Canada there are some really stupid bylaws like the main floor of your primary dwelling must be 900sqft in some areas, plus building codes prevent cheap construction of homes. You could have a tiny home on piers and it wouldn't cost much but because of our laws and codes it's impossible. You need a proper foundation, footings, building permits, ad in order to get a permit you need to submit blueprints, etc. You can't just buy a prefab building set it on piers and live in it. That'd be too easy, that'd make housing affordable and the government wouldn't like that. \n7. Woke indoctrination centers, The public education system here is all about putting in regular kids and pumping out future Liberal voters. It's a mess.\n8. You can't defend yourself, In Canada you aren't allowed to carry a weapon for self defense. If a criminal breaks into your home you are supposed to do everything you can to escape rather than defend your property. Criminals have more protection under the law than the law abiding citizens. \n9. Low wages, because of immigration wages are low compared to the USA for most jobs in most locations\n10. Thigs cost more in Canada than the USA after taking into consideration currency conversion rates, even things manufactured in Canada\n11. The cold. Nobody likes the cold for the 4-6 months of the year that the higher populated areas of the country have it. The more densely populated areas also tend to be the warmest. \n12. Fascist leaders. It's no secret Justin Trudeau and the Liberals are fascists\n13. Governmental links to the WEF, you'll own nothing and you'll be happy or so their add said. The truth is Canadians can afford less and less under Liberal leadership which is no surprise since Justin Trudeau and Chrystia are supporters of the WEF.

How when this USAs citizens fund their country's destruction ?.. We need things but we blame each other instead of the politicians

Why can’t they apply for the visas then apply for citizenship and take classes and the test like everyone immigrating to the US has to do? It’s really sad to see this happening. It’s not just the USA it’s all countries. You have to have visas if your not on vacation and sometimes if you are on vacation. Then to stay longer the visa has to be redone for a longer time. But they have to apply for citizenship and study and pass the tests. I have several friends that did it the correct way. I just want everyone to have a chance and do it right as well. We need them and entering illegally just isn’t okay.

Usa needs to take over Mexico and South America then these people could stay home problem solved. No more border

This is sickening to see, i feel bad for those that came here the correct way and got their citizenship. The CIA needs to stop subverting the elections in their countries first. Sanctions needs to be lifted immediately to allow their countries to be able to participate in the global markets. This act kept most of Central America’s governments weak and destabilized. We destabilized El Salvador all through the 70s and 80s. We destabilized Venezuela when our politics ran counter to theirs. We toppled and incarcerated President Manuel Noriega of Panama and went to war with Panama. Pablo Escobar of Panamawas killed with CIA operatives. Right or wrong our footprint is part of Latin America and the consequences of this still reverberate in todays’ immigration problems.

Oh man! Everybody is entering in mass, but when I immigrated to the USA, at first, I had to wait for about 8 years to come legally+ 5 years to become a US citizen. Had a lot of paperwork to issue, and it wasn't free at all. I paid a lot of money. I bet most of them do not need any asylum.
