Quebec should win the prize as a good place to live in Canada. First of all, the cost of living is lower than elsewhere in the country, despite the fact that Quebecers are the highest taxed citizens in North America. Also, there is a certain art of living in Quebec, the fruit of 400 years of history and culture in French, which stands out from pan-Canadian uniformity.

I got a chance to get shifted to North America 24 years ago. By then I had reached a CXO level job in India and that company gave me a choice. I decided it was good in India, and my salary went up as the years went by. In USD terms I might have got lesser than in NA, but in purchasing power, I got more, I think.\n\nThen India's growth after Y2k happened and I got other jobs, and participated in stock options with start-ups with dynamic founders (India has a decent VC-PE network now, especially for technology people). 5 years ago I decided no need to work and be on my own, doing stuff I always wanted do, but income was more priority. Today I realise most of new wealth is being created in India: new ideas, new services, products, delivery systems, etc: all being thought of in India. Why go abroad, except for a vacation?\n\nToday I have a fairly substantial net worth that got created through those wealth sharing jobs and I realize when I visit NA, that I would never have got this, not unless I had been there for a long time, and certainly not in Canada - that's pretty clear.\n\nToday, India is the place where wealth is being made. If you have a product or service that is successful, or are a part of such an enterprise and get to share in the value creation (that's a risk, not a given, not guaranteed), India is the place to be. And by going out of India, you are taking a risk, this is no different, except we know India in our blood.\n\nIf you are entrepreneurial, or have the risk taking capacity to work with an entrepreneur and share his risk with stock participation, there a great probability you will do very, very well in India.\n\nThe biggest upside: YOU are now developing India!

Sorry, but you are wrong about crime in Toronto. Yes, there were some random murders -- but if you research your history, you will find that these rare randoms have happened in the past. Toronto is statistically THE safest city of its size in North America. Homicies overall have decreased in the past three years. Toronto remains a city in which I would walk anywhere, day or night. It really is that safe. And yes, I get that I'm a guy and that makes a difference. But still, where else can you say that? Certainly not in any American city of any size.

Don’t take an engineering job in America: layoffs will make it certain you will never have health insurance, be able to pay off a mortgage, or maintain a comfortable lifestyle. Engineers are a dime a dozen.

I lived in Western Europe, Japan and at the moment, Canada. I lucked out getting a well paying job in Vancouver when I moved back a few years ago and my average tax rate is actually the exact percentage you stated in the video - 28%, which includes income tax, pension and employment insurance. I'm actually doing better in terms of quality of life now but I do miss being able to travel around Europe for cheap. (e.g., quick train ride to Paris for the weekend) Now, I take cheap flights (e.g. Flair Airlines) to Mexico instead.\n\nJust to state some data points: when I was in Europe, I paid a total average of 39% income tax on a lower salary than I have right now in Canada. Things like utilities (e.g., gas/electricity), restaurants, certain grocery items and electronics (e.g., iphone/PS5/computers) were significantly more expensive because European VAT (inclusive) is usually 20%+. \n\nI don't have the exact numbers but on average I believe I was paying 70 - 90€ ($100 - 130 CAD) just for electricity each month for a small flat, but I am now paying $30 - 50 CAD for a decent sized 1 bedroom. I believe my housing gas bill was about the same or possibly a bit more. In addition, automobile gas prices were much higher (about $2€/L on average which is $2.90 CAD/L) and I think they could go even higher right now. \n\nHowever, rent is definitely more expensive in Vancouver, but I believe that is true for many West coast cities in North America. Right now I'm paying $2300 CAD a month for a 1BR, and I split that amount with my partner. In comparison, it would have been about €1300 ($1900 CAD) for something similar in the city where I was living previously. In a more expensive city (e.g. Amsterdam) a 1BR would easily cost €1800+ ($2650 CAD).\n\nFor me, the difficulty of making friends in my late 20's stays about the same. I think it is difficult to make new friends after graduating from school, and you have to put yourself out there by joining groups and events. (e.g. Meetup or volunteering?)

Toronto is probably better off without this whiny little Princess. for all it's faults it is still one of the safest places to live in North America , and certainly the safest in Canada. She compares it to Tokyo which is even more overcrowded . If cost of living is the Criteria for where you live then certainly go live in Tokyo. Personally I'd much rather ride the TTC to work than Tokyo's commuter trains where they pack them in like sardines. Sayonara, sweetheart !

As a canadian i never thoughg of living anywhere else vanxouver is so beautiful. Growing up govrnmebt started cutting programs and services in schools ans public resources. And kept doing it. \n\nNow they are removinf beautiful homes to build ugly apartments no yards .\n\nThere is not enough public space. Everyone is moving to the city. We use to be able to go to the beach on a weekday in spring and there was no one. Now its packes. To get to the bathroom was almost a block long. The bathrooms are small. Goos for population we has in the early 90s. We need somethings 4x larger now. \n\nIm ok with new comers but if they create a new community in the rural areas. We have so many areas up north no one moves to.\n\nOr lots of space to build new communities up north, not deatroy the current communities that already exist. \n\nWith all the new apartments there is not enough space for cara, no parking and no room on public transportation.\n\nSimply, the city cannot support anymore people. Its unrealistic. \nI worked with a girk who shares a 1 bedroom apartment with 5 other people and she still paid 1500 a month for rent.\n\nThis will soon be like america - run down, extreme poverty & homelessness. The homelessness has gotten so extreme.\n\nWages havw increased maybe 3x since i was a kid, but pricea rose eveey year.\n\nAs a kid we paid $850 for 3 bedrooms. I have family in Canada, and there are pros & cons of being there, and yes, weather & inflation are two important factors. There are Muslim communities in Canada, but it all depends where you’re at. I do understand the prevalent anti Muslim attitude/atmosphere, I live in the US and there are certain areas where I would not feel safe declaring my religion and having my wife & daughter wearing hijab, it’s sad, but we as Muslims in North America have to act as the pioneers and make our fellow Americans understand better our religion & our view points regarding the political & religious differences we have.

Guys guys guys...we need to be scientific about this. We need the data from 1310 and 792, maybe a certain portion of south americans has always migrated between north and south america.

I am not Muslim and I don't live in Canada so I can't completely understand your experience. I'm from a Hindu family and I relate to some of the things you guys have expressed, especially how you guys are worried about your children being raised in a certain environment and the sense of community. Especially, about the kids. America and Canada are scary at this moment. I heard that America is looking at allowing schools to help children to hide their decision regarding their gender etc., from their parents, and there is so much more being taught in schools that go against certain cultures and belief system but also it is now separating kids from their parents, creating walls. I also agree with you both that I don't hate or saying that others can't live the way they choose to live but when it is being imposed on your children then it's hard to live in that place. I wish you guys all the best, just wanted to say, I completely get you and bless your family. You have to do what is right for you and your children and you have to go where you are most comfortable and happy<3. We all are different and we all have our ways and we all deserve to be living in a place where we can be safe to continue our traditions and cultures, to help it live on, our children will carry that forward and it's important. I don't mean to hate but America seems to be morally collapsing and Canada follows America and so does England (it's where I am living). It's scary. Hard. For some of us to survive in a certain environment. It's not for everyone you know.

The truth is, Noth America is a Christian based place. But Christians don't have a religion anymore because they'll tolerate anything. In order to protect our children from what they're teaching them, we have to take them to a Muslim country. Compared to America, being a disabled person in Canada is a dream. I lived in TO without a car for 5 years. You can't do that in the USA. Ever. Taxes are lower as there is an ancient infrastructure which is never updated (see Florida Condo meltdown, Texas power grid failure 2021). You spend hours in traffic as there is almost no public transportation. There are few or no environmental regulations so our country is beyond polluted. Rivers literally catch fire. Foreign companies bribe our officials (at least Canada has acknowledged this as a problem) so citizens can't get justice. Life expectancy in America fell sharply in 2020. It fell again in 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic certainly played a role, but that’s not the whole story. During this same time period, eight of the ten leading causes of death also increased. Even maternal and child and adolescent mortality increased. In August 2022, federal health officials released new data showing that across all demographic groups, Americans are dying younger. Welcome to the USA!

schools in America and Canada are DAYCARE. they aren't Schools. also you seriously forgot to mention the rampant BULLYING that goes on., your child WILL be made fun of whether he is white black or any other race. dealing with that is scary frustrating and really hurtful. even priyanka Chopra was bullied as was I many many times by all races except Indian (I am Indian NRI living and working in New York City as a teacher in public and private schools including college courses for 20 years now). your children WILL suffer in the primary and secondary school systems here. ONLY college is where you can actually be expelled or arrested for certain types of bullying. I don't think you realize how serious this issue as a parent...I went to school in India for 5 years as a child and never once do I remember being bullied. when I came here, it was nearly every day or other day. total nightmare. forget grades. The pregnant woman, the reason she probably moved back is because all Canadians get paid maternity leave for 1 year, and I think extended coverage you can get up to 18 months, after having a kid. It's not your full pay, but a good chunk of it. As long as you were employed for a certain time before giving birth, or reaching a certain stage in your pregnancy Im not sure EXACTLY how it works. America you get 3 months off... unpaid. Forcing most parents with no benefit from work to struggle financially just to watch their kid, or hire expensive help, and have a stranger watch and raise your 3 month old for half the time.

I've been to 30 states in my many decades of travel. The US has become a scarier place over the past 20 years. The politics is very partisan, Evangelicals have expanded their influence resulting in less tolerance of others, gun violence is insane, the poor are very, very poor with no way out, the very, very rich don't want to share at all (contrary to Christian teachings), the US version of capitalism verges on slavery (certainly not what Adam Smith envisioned anyway), the race issues are becoming simply stupid, the MAGA supporters and the socialist far left and wokeness are simply beyond comprehension . . . overall, tolerance for differences is becoming lost. People on the left and the right are equally are to blame. \n\nOne of Canadians' favourite activities is to crap on America(ns). This is unfair. There are wonderful places in the US and wonderful people. Collectively though, I think the US is coming apart at the seams. Canada certainly has its warts and our politics and society is becoming polarized too. But overall I'd say, Canada is friendlier, less violent, not as bigoted, more open minded, fairer, much less hierarchical, and more educated with regard to what's happening in the world. I do like the entrepreneurial bent to the US but its version often comes at a huge cost to people.

This recent crime wave on the TTC is certainly unnerving and felt like something from inner city America in the 70s and 80s - most certainly very un-Canadian-like but unfortunately very real.

People from Nations with horrific poverty do not comprehend Nations not like that are built around a culture of working hard. I was doing a job in a major city in North America where I would come into contact with some frequency with small business owners from Europe. It would be revealed in conversation they are extremely reluctant to hire men ( not the women ) from places like Africa, The Middle East and South Asia because those individuals are accustomed to passing the day doing next to nothing, letting women do most the work, are difficult to train and become combative when asked to work with the intensity of local norms. That is not racist. Racist would be wishing those groups harm, thwarting their progress, etc. But facts are facts. Certain groups are socialized to do the bare minimum in life in settings where it is not necessary to work hard enough to sustain infrastructure and personal resources for very cold winters and a decent, not unsanitary standard of living. If anyone accuses that of being racist they have never ran a business with balanced books in an industrialized Nation. It has nothing to do with genetics. It has to do with how people are socialized. Traveling on Saudia the Male flight attendants do next to nothing, tend to be rude and let the Women do most the work. Why? Because they can get away with it.

Good lord, I really feel lucky as an indian who immigrated to america now. I can't believe what my parents have gone through with this. I literally only speak english and only known being an american all my life. Who knew that I was literally almost certainly going to go back to india based on probability. A country I have never felt any fealty, allegience, or loyalty to and a country I never called home. Life in Nigeria is only decent for those living affluently in Lekki, Victoria Island, Ikoyi, certain areas of Ikeja and Abuja. Outside of that, life for everyday Nigerians is crap. Water & electricity (NEPA) are highly unreliable & intermittent, so fuel-powered generators are a necessity for living everyday life per household or per apartment in apartment complexes. The banking & government systems are notoriously sluggish, taking weeks and months to process simple paperwork such as drivers licenses, passports, certificates, banking transaction reversals, you name it. Bribery is a daily occurrence EVERYWHERE. Police (if you can call them that, mostly untrained thugs) detain & extort motorists and/or people innocently going about their daily lives, just for the money. Many many many people disappear mysteriously without ever being seen again by family or friends. Lots of inter-racial discrimination and animosity between the three major tribes that make up Nigeria… Yoruba, Igbo & Hausa-Fulani. The federal & state governments are horribly corrupt, bordering on dictatorship. Elections are undemocratic, to say the least, with thugs threatening voters at voting booths. I could go on?\n\nThis is why many Nigerians with any amount of wealth live in diaspora, whether that be the UK, Canada, the USA, Europe, or wherever. And, yeah, be prepared for everything being structured & organized in these countries, especially in North America. The cost of living is definitely higher to pay for a higher quality of living. That’s the difference between a developed country vs a country, such as Nigeria, that’s developing or considered ‘third-world’. Unfortunately, here in Canada we cannot account for the last 8 years under our current administration, which has gone rogue & is out of control, causing high inflation, interest rates and housing and cost of living to soar. This is not normal conditions even to those of us natural-born here. So, we feel for immigrants who have arrived in good faith in the last few years. I’m sure their country of origin is looking better than what is being experienced here in Canada currently.

As an older person who migrated decades ago after protesting in my old country, I encourage young people below 45 to FIGHT for your countries. Fight bad goverments. 7 billion people on the planet cannot move to the few western countries that seem to work and appear attractive on the surface, it’s not possible. The taxpayers in those countries are feeling it. Look at the folks sleeping on the floor in NY! The homeless citizens don’t have places to sleep but politicians are lodging new border crossing migrants in hotels at taxpayers expense, creating resentment! \n\nFight those oppressing you in your countries. Black America “fought” to eliminate Jim Crow so we can even move here. A doctor has a target of about 15 to 20 patients to see per day and rushes you out of his office because the corporation he works for only cares about money and KPIs! You really aren’t allowed to interact with patients and provide personalized service. A pharmacist has to fill anything between 200 to 350 prescriptions, give a certain number of immunizations and see a certain No of patients per day. There is no time for niceties! A corporate professional May work remotely but has to deliver on so many projects he is up till 10pm and only gets up to eat. We have beautiful homes, drive nice cars etc but MUST work like the clock in an assembly line fashion! Most of us pay so much of our income as taxes we end up with less than 70% as paychecks! Things aren’t always what they seem!

Well I dare anyone show me ANY other country on the planet that one can just walk over the border and plant your ass down and demand that the people of that country take care of you and your family. Let’s not forget the way they were driven out of this country during the “gold rush” and centuries of genocide as colonizers migrated west who by the way were immigrants. I’ve had relatives loose jobs at hospitals because immigrants kept going to hospitals not paying for services and those same hospitals had to close down. The US government has their hands aka MY TAX MONEY in every pot in the world except for their own. It’s time to ask the American people where they want their tax dollars to go and if lawful immigration is one of those things then let them pay if public education is their preference then let them pay their taxes toward what they believe makes America the best country for them to live. And because this is America I’m almost certain their is a corporation or an elected official profiting financially from all of the anguish and chaos that the group of people pictured in this video are displaying. There is profit in pain and America capitalizes off of it in all the best and worst ways.

Why do I feel Biden is to blame. On the surface. But you know who is really to blame, Castro. Castro communism has destroyed and destabilized all of America beginning in 1959. Castros mission to destroy America is succeeding to a certain extent. The criminal totalitarian dictatorship of the Castro mafia created a Nazi like genocide in the island of Cuba creating hunger, misery, diseases. Get rid of communist dictatorship in Latin America and resolve this problem because these people don’t want to leave their countries, but they need, democracy, freedom, justice, human rights etc… I think we have to vote republican from now on. I know correlation does not equal causation but you do not even examine the possibility that the far higher salaries in America in certain sectors like tech compared to those in Canada might at least partly be the result of having a more restrictive immigration policy for workers in those sectors in America compared to in Canada. The same possibility does also occur when it comes to the relatively much higher cost of housing in Canada. This possibility is to a relatively neutral (British) observer such an obvious logical possibility that I'm afraid I'm going to have to ding pretty hard this otherwise pretty good video for not addressing it. You start with a supposition - the American immigration system is broken and the Canadian system is great - but the facts that you produce in the video, assuming that the point of immigration is to raise living standards, seem to exactly contradict your supposition?!?

When you say America's Healthcare system is great for many but unavailable or nonexistent to a certain segment of the population means America's Healthcare System FAILS. That is just a FACT! Love America but miss Canada every single day.

Canada has another problem that you forgot to cover. Canada isn't an entrepreneurial nation like America. Canadians are less risk taking compared to Americans which means you can have an influx of immigrants but less jobs for them therefore they will leave back to their own countries again. Most of the top employers of engineers in Canada are foreign companies, not local. Salaries in America are high due to the immense labor competition for engineers as there are more startups and entrepreneurial people. \n\nThen in Canada they require certain Canadian certifications especially for doctors which isn't as bad as in the US. So you have some engineers or doctors that end up working low paid jobs since they would have to repeat school in Canada from an accredited Canadian university. I don't see this as a problem for the US at all because these immigrants aren't going to create new companies and are merely looking for a job. Canadians not being as entrepreneurial and not starting companies to compete for the talents of these professionals will just result in these professionals working out of the Canadian offices of American and Asian tech companies.\n\nOverall not a win or loss for America. Even if these guys end up working in the Canadian division of American companies, American companies will still have the benefit of their talent which is a win at a lower cost for the US companies.

This video is a joke with an agenda. If America let in people as easily as Canada did and in the same proportion to its population could it not end up having the same housing crisis? Besides that, the video pretends Canada is this amazingly superior place when it comes to immigration when the left wing government wants to bring people in in the hopes that they will mainly vote liberal. In America in the 2020 election which way certain states went (such as Pennsylvania) came down to immigration. People have done studies and found if they threw citizenship at certain people they'd be voting around 70% Democrat. Where the government sets these people up also determines election outcomes. I don't want to live in a country where the government values immigrants for voting purposes more than the native population. That is a subversion of democracy. Imagine being born in America and living there your entire life. There are politicians that feel no obligation to change your mind and win your vote. Instead they look at you and those like you as people that are to have to their votes negated/canceled out by forcing another amnesty of illegal immigrants. They would rather reward criminals for their crimes to win an election than actually make a case for electing them to law abiding American citizens.

Tipping provides better service in restaurants? I've been to restaurants around the world and from my experience the service is not significantly better in North America and certainly isn't 15-20% better. \nThe other problem with tipping is that I don't get to eat the the smile and false platitudes, what I want in a restaurant is food better than I can cook at home, that's what I'm paying for. \nWhen the food is disappointing I'm not paying extra for it.

America is a beautiful country to look at, and I'm sure there are lots of beautiful people, but the arrogance of some of them is mind blowing. I recently watched the news footage of 911, I cried all the way through that, first out of compassion and next out of frustration. When people were jumping out of those towers, George Dubya was making a statement that terrorism would not stand in America. What did he think was standing in his face. The terrorists won that day. Then when they got Bin Laden He stands up and says we got him . Big deal you got one person , when there are dozens to take his place. No mention of other countries that helped them. , they have taken full credit for every war that ever happened. They wonder why the rest of the world hates that country. The sad thing is that 911 didn't teach them a thing. They brag about how they lost 3000 people and other countries only lost a few to terrorism. How sad that they think that way. You had a great president in Obama, but you have that 2 term rule and have been going downhill ever since. And our Canada's Prime minister is certainly nothing to be proud of. Politically he's no threat to anybody, but his own country. Mostly he is an immoral threat to his own country. But that's another vent for another day. I still pray every day for the world and that includes America, but I can't imagine what it will take to break them of that arrogance.

I'm in Mobile Alabama and half the population lives in trailer Parks while they build whole neighborhoods every year that go unpurchased and they keep hiring more police to chase the ever growing homeless population around the city pretending they're doing the lords work.\n\nSome of you think these Mexicans are going to take your jobs, but I ask you: what jobs? Not unions fighting for a 40 hour week, the minimum wage jump from 40¢ to 75¢ in 1950, then over $1 by '56, effectively doubling wages that made America the most prosperous it had ever been. Not the Dwight D Eisenhower interstate system before auto lobbies rallied against the development of a national commuter rail system, giving the rails to 4 big companies that refuse to allow passenger cars on their rails without massive fees because freight has a higher profit margin. And certainly not pension funds before they were dissolved in favor of the 401k, and the social security politicians are constantly working to cut while ever increasing the retirement age past what most people will never live to now that 45% of our water is tainted with PFOAs that will have everyone born today die of liver cancer before the age of 65.\n\nIt was CAPITALISM that made this country! The same capitalism that claws back every penny it can from working class people. America was great DESPITE capitalism. UNDERSTAND THAT.

It's almost like they don't see how the effects of employers offering wages too low to support paying rent being mixed with large investment firms buying up all the Housing stock and enacting policies of constantly evicting current tenants to increase rental prices isn't a major component in the problem.\nThe reality is, the housing crises could be easily fixed by raising minimum wage to a living wage and restricting investment firms from using residential housing as investment stocks especially as one of their tactics seems to be to intentionally not rent out large portions of their housing stock to create a shortage in supply, this driving up demand along with rental prices.\nYou can't honestly complain about the homeless crisis while ignoring the fact that corporations are intentionally keeping rentals empty to drive up rental prices. I'm pretty sure that fits within one of the definitions of insanity.

Some are trying to reunite with family, some are fleeing poverty and feel America is the best place to come up but it's those that are fleeing violence that concern me. We can't take on the world in one nation only to have some immigrants globally thumb their noses up at our traditions, rights we had to fight for, housing we need etc. The sad fact is running to America isn't the Answer. We fight the Middle East who will never change but we need to turn our attention to Mexico, the island nations and South America. It doesn't matter if people who won't change are overwhelming our nation. The violence you escape still comes here. It's getting to the point of entitlement. I've known immigrants who had to pay out-of-state fees while living in America until they could gain a visa but those from the south refute this and demand in state tuition or the same rights as those who took classes and became legal citizens the right way. So much violence from gangs and the cartel but we can't help by just opening the borders. It's time the South changed and took out the gangs and cartel for good to make a better life . Moreover, greedy leaders need to be taken out if necessary so these people can have a better future. The south and certain islands can't really say America should mind its business because these invasions are our business. The same people saying that they should start a revolution in their own country forget that the US government was the one that started the problems in those countries in the 20th century, with all the CIA-aided coups and far-right military dictatorships. One must also not forget the problems that the United Fruit Company brought to Central America. If anything, the US should embrace these people with open arms. There always will be housing. If the US stopped zoning every square inch of its land as solely single family housing, we could solve the housing crisis and accommodate a lot more people, Americans and immigrants included. That being said, the federal government needs to allocate more resources to allow these people to enter in a proper manner, something which Biden certainly hasn’t done.
