I live in Quebec and love winter, but I do sometimes dream of living somewhere like Hawaii or California where I could eat ripe avocados and grow so much food all year round. I could build a tiny home (less regulations - so much red tape here - and cheaper bc less need of insulation and heating) and go swimming every day. This is pretty idealistic though, and could probably do these things in non-american countries. Would I consider moving to the United States? Sure I would consider it. Would I though? Probably not. Why? Similar reasons to many folks in this country:\n- lack of women's rights (still growth to do here too)\n- lgbtqia+ discrimination (here as well, but definitely to a lesser extent)\n- racism (we have this here too though... just maybe less nazis?)\n- guns (this terrifies me... anyone I know who has a gun here has it only for hunting and it's locked up in a gun case, which I think is required, when not in use)\n- healthcare (though I'm not in love with our system... I'm currently on a huge waiting list for an mri, the waiting lists to get a doctor are obscene, and can't access dental or mental health support... some of our hospitals are in such poor shape...)\n- politics and MAGA (terrifying that so many people think like that... though our political parties are pretty fucked up too... just not to the same extent)\n- school systems that teach kids the world is as old as the Bible says\n- police and prison industrial complex (seems less personal and terrifying from the outside)

Instead of blaming these people, one must question their own government authorities who make the rules and legislation to facilitate this. Maybe it's just the truth of a desperate Canadian economy that needs immigrants to keep fueling the 'aging' Canadian economic engine. These people come in and work hard, odd jobs (not to mention the exceptional skilled ones as well like Doctors, health care workers etc.) which the regular Canadian wouldn't do. I've been in Canada for 2 years without a Family doctor. Thank God, the last 10 different Doctors I met were all fresh immigrants and came to my rescue. Ask your conscience, without these immigrants, you wouldn't be getting your late night coffee at the time Hortons drive thru, no one to take your blood works without you waiting several months in waiting, no ways for universities to subsidize tuition fees for the poorer Canadian students. If immigrants stop coming in, the nice detached home you live in will go down in value, the nice truck you drive will become more expensive, your kids University tuition fees will sky rocket, Canadian companies selling groceries, furniture, etc. Will have lesser revenue and eventually get eaten up be American giants, Canadian companies won't have cheap labour to build those much needed housing. \nNot only question your government, but also question your 'own' people.. Where are they to serve you? Where are the so called patriotic 'original' Canadian Doctors'? They are off to US to earn more money. U think they care enough for their home country?\n If Canada won't, somebody Else will accept these people. I want out of this country so bad! It's feels like I'm a prisoner here...its nearly impossible to leave unless you've got a ton of money, marry an American, or have a specific educational degree.

A South African who lived there a few years. Nothing felt better than getting on the plane to leave, and knowing I will never have to return. Even South Africa with the crime and load shedding is by far better. In many ways a man is more free here even if i have to live behind security systems. I can speak my mind without fear of some PC police and censorship, which is far worse prison. My standard of living is also far better here. I can ride my bikes as I please where in Canada I can only ride a few months and would lose my license in a month due to BS fines. And the people here are much more open and truly hospitable, not some fake politeness. I even missed the blacks here, who at least i can joke and chat with far easier than with canadians. I found I have more in common with black africans than with white canadians who look like me and speak the same language. We may have the same skin colour but are totally different in culture. It made me realise I am more african than western, proud of it, and I would prefer to live and die with the african sun on my face with wide open space, than in some dark, cold, gloomy place living in cramped quarters in some libtard paradise constrained by so many laws. Of course black south africans will not like to hear that whitey has no plans to leave, but this is my home as much as theirs, I contribute to making the country somehow still function, and my kids are also more interested in making the nation run than running off to Australia, or even worse, Canada.\n\nI am so glad I didn't meet a woman there and get stuck. American politics is crazier and more entertaining than Canadian politics but it is better watched from a safe difference.. Speaking as a Canadian, I couldn't imagine moving to the US. Gun violence, crowds, lack of health care, the prison industry, elected judiciary, heavily polarized politics, racism, the preference for individualism over tactfulness and shunning of people on social assistance are cultural elements I couldn't endure. Despite the fact the weather's often much better, lower air fares or cell rates, abundant shopping choices, interesting places to visit and the friendliness of most Americans, it's a hard no. We already have enough American influence here and sadly, I live in an area led by ignorant politicians who'd like to adopt us policies.

You may have Disney Land (and World) but I live in the original Disney Land which is Huron County, Ontario, Canada as Walt and Roy's dad and grandfather were originally from Bluevale, now Morris-Turnberry Township here in Huron County. The Disney family even has some connected history with our salt mine, the largest operating salt mine on the planet with hoist shafts as deep as the CN tower is tall (roughly 553 m or half a kilometre or less than 1/3 of a Mile) and also had a sawmill, probably close to my first home as a kid outside of Holmesville, Ontario, but I digress.\n\nAs I have stated, I'm Canadian and while I admire some things about your country, I wouldn't live there due to the lack of regulations on firearms (I don't mind people owning guns but they should be qualified and certified with a licence of owning, storing and using them and prohibitions on assault rifles and even semi-automatic weapons) and the lack of universal healthcare. Canada could be doing better as we have those in government trying to privatize our system further and breaking the laws doing it but the Feds aren't really doing anything either. At least we do have healthcare but there are still private systems in place, particularly for optical, dental, pharma and other systems. I also don't care for the American's lack of serious training for police, private prisons and the fact that slavery is alive and well there as well as your politicians' and citizens' insistence on keeping and maintaining capital punishment.

Even if you are in a place that hasn’t had a shooting in the local school, seems like locking doors and metal detectors and police in the school are everywhere because of it. That just implies that it’s something to be afraid of. Just thinking about those “security measures” makes American schools sound like prisons. Add on that any time there is a shooting that the problem is “the door wasn’t locked”, or “the cop wasn’t fast enough” instead of facing the facts that your gun laws are ridiculous… it’s amazing Americans DON’T fear for their kids lives…

I am from Brazil, moved to Canada 9 years ago, now I am Canadian citizen. I was once asked by a American colleague why did I not immigrated to the USA, the answer is: it was not even in the list of possible countries. In fact it is on my top list of places not to move to. \n\nYou have a good insurance through your job? That only means you have one more reason to fear losing it or stay on a particularly bad one if you don’t have anything lined up, if you have a chronic health condition, then you are straight out hostage to your employer. Even if you do have good insurance your bills may one day go beyond the maximum and you still risk bankruptcy. \n\nIf you do go bankrupt, in any civilized country you can’t go to jail for debt, in the USA you can, the country with the highest incarcerated population in the world in absolute numbers and relative too. To add salt to the injury it is a country that did not completely make slave work illegal, it is still legal if you are not a free citizen and your prison system exploit that.\n\nSo it is a country that you can become slave because you got sick.\n\nThen there are the guns… the fact you think you are exempt of school shootings says it all, if you live in a small city it would not affect you? Are you really saying mass shootings never occur in small cities?! Not that many people in the developed world are shopping for an alternative country. So I imagine most Americans and most Canadians will be content with their nation of birth. But as a Canadian, I have to admit I'm a bit scared of the US. The level of violent crime down there is such that _many_ (not all) people feel they need guns for personal security. American prison rates testify to a level of desperation and alienation that is _not_ appealing to me. I don't want to live somewhere where owning a deadly weapon seems like a sensible idea! Also, as a struggling creative/entertainment person, I can't guarantee I'll be consistently earning good money – there are plenty of lean times in my biz. I don't want to be repeatedly worrying about my health coverage disappearing, whenever work dries up. I've never had that type of anxiety in Canada, and I sure appreciate that. Btw, although the Canadian health system is a long way from perfect, I've always managed to get appropriate care, according to my needs, quickly enough, at no cost to myself. And currently, I really like my GP _and_ my specialists!

I have a fix to all this. Make every American that came from a legit system, and grand parents, and parents who came legally back 4 generations count only and offspring.. No Tno anchor babies allowed from anyone who came illegally past 4 generations, record department can validate all this. All natural born and maybe been legally also count. Ok, everyone mentioned get mandated to wear a tamper proof wristband linked to ownership and picked up from the DMV and the bands are electronically active for six months, if cut it sends a signal RFID signal for warranted arrest. Everyone with a band can go to work, shop, travel and it's only temporary for 6 months then gets legally removed. All illegals can register on the way out and need grabbed to cube back through the front door if they have no violent or theft charges or rape/assault felonies. Temp residents/work Visas get a band too. Bring in NATO and our military to start operation clean sweep, we offer bus rides back and ditched air flights back to what ever country you can't from, the sweep comes from N.S.E.W. circling in..if caught after having a chance to leave and didn't you will have a index finger on left hand cut off as a marker for being a invader to our homeland along with a RFID microchip embedded into the wrist bone, the chip will signal in the future if you even get with in 500 miles to border and all airports coming into America. Solar drones charge and patrol the border in drives 24/7. All who participated can get in line to come back as long as clean record mentioned prior. Always been friends? Thats funny because pretty sure that iff WW2 had not happened, Canada would have invaded the US as payback for the 1812 war. Because without WW2, the US never gets a war economy, all they have are riffle foot soldiers. Meanwhile Canada was already in a war economy due to its massive involvement in WW1 and viewed the US as a rival with a dangerously high population. Also in WW1 Canadian were feared for its crualty and its no mercy policies of make no prisoners, kill the surrendering, kill the wounded and their families. And right after WW1 Canada was in the perfect position fix the population problem by committing mass genocide against the US. It was really in WW2 where britain forced us to work side by side with the americans that a real friendship started between the US and Canada.
