Canada as well as Mexico and China will and must fight back! I don't care so much about china, but Mexico and Canada have been our best trading partners and friends and now we have insulted them. We will deserve what we get because we have elected the most stupid president in the history of the United States. Be prepared to pay higher prices all of those of you who voted for this idiot president Trump. Unfortunately the rest of us who were smart and voted for someone else will have to be punished too!

As a U.S. citizen, my full support to you Canada- but going forward please emphasize that the Trump administration is choosing to start this trade war -not America-millions of us do not support or want to be associated with that tyrant in the White House!

Very straightforward condemnation against the Trump administration on these tariffs. Trump is looking for trouble at the expense of the citizens without thinking about the welfare of the people. Trump wants to bankrupt Canada because it has ample resources and Trump wants Canada to be the 51st state. It is quite impossible to bankrupt Canada because it can always expand its international trade to other countries, like Europe, etc. Do not tolerate the bully. I am a Canadian. We do not want conflict with USA. What we want is for our new leader to be voted in - and then work things out for trade. President Trump is aware of what we have suffered. Canada has stood firm.....the truckers in our capital....brought a siege all over the world for freedom. I do not want the tariffs.....that will hurt us both. I am a 72 years of female who lives in Canada with very strong American roots as I came here when I was 46 years of age. I have to say that what is happening between the United States of America and Canada breaks my heart. I have always known that Canada and United States of America worked and got along with each other all my life. Yes, my heart is broken for the Americans and the Canadiens who will suffer because of this trade war that President Trump started. Prayers for both countries.

We also know that the Fentanyl problem has little or nothing to do with Canada and that the majority of Fentanyl is brought into the USA by US citizens. Most American citizens do not want this. I certainly hope it doesn’t seem as though all Americans agree with what Trump is doing because many of us certainly do not. He doesn’t understand what the word diplomacy means unfortunately. With inflation rates rising, a trade war is one of the worst possible scenarios, and I agree with the Prime Minister. There are no winners here. Everyone gets hurt.

He says the US doesn't need anything, yet he wants, Canada, Greenland, Gaza, and is holding Aid over Ukraine's head for an unfair trade deal of resources. I’m a 53 year old Canadian. I went to college on an athletic scholarship & lived there for 10 years after turned professional in my sport. Why, why, why - with all the problems going on in the world right now to tackle - why would you want to start a trade war with your closest trading partner & most loyal ally? Not to mention that your list of Allies is shrinking daily. This is not going to end well for either of us. \nI just arrived home from a trip to the grocery store - making sure nothing in my cart said “ made in the USA” on it due to the new tariffs that began today. \nThe irony is, many of the states where Trump won by the biggest margin, are the states that are going to get hit the hardest from Canadian retaliation tariffs ( Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Indiana, the Dakotas - just to name a few). A lot of farmers in those states are going to be hit extremely hard with the fertilizer tax. After Canada, the next 3 largest Potash producers are Russia, Belarus & China. So , good luck \nWhen the cost of fruit & vegetables skyrocket across the US. Maybe you’ll put a little more thought into your vote 4 years from now.

President Trump doesn't care. The US has been subsidizing Canada's electrical grid for over $250 million dollars a year. Canada will loose that. In addition, US automotive industries like stellantis are moving productions back to the US from Canada. Canada has been charging the US dairy products 250% in tariffs, US Bourbon and whiskey 180% for over 4 years. China has been charging Ford 200% tariff so much so that ford can no longer afford to sell their vehicles in China.....all these outrageously high tariffs were designed to protect their domestic products.... China was suposed to spend 4 billion dollars a year in US goods but they have been consistently spending only 1.9 billion each year . Trade deficit of over 2 billion dollars. What sane person would allow this to happen in a free market and call this fair trades????? I have no knowledge of this until recently.

Every country should be responsible for their own goods. The day we start relying on other countries for what we need we're in a heck of a mess. Because China couldn't get our merchandise to our plant we had to shut down for almost a month. We messed up sending some of our work to China. After this we got everything in the US. Cheaper prices are not the solution. Cheaper labor is not the answer. Trump is concerned about the drugs coming into our country and since the borders are affected these drugs will be coming into our country many other ways. We know what a good ally you have been to the US and we also know your primary concern is to Canadian citizens. While many of us have done what we could do and we also know the current trade arrangement was negotiated with you by Donald Trump in his previous term which leaves many of us scratching our heads. For my part it deeply saddens me that this has happened and all we ask or all that I ask is that you remember those of us who did not vote for this. Slightly less than half of the country. The biggest fear that D Trump has is that China becomes as strong as them. He uses Russia as his ally to physically threaten China. It's now time for the rest of the world to show that his plan can backfire. I think Europe and Canada should strengthen their free trade and investments with China (but make sure that they won't physically annex Taiwan). Well said. I love the USA, I have relatives who live there and in all the years of a beautiful relationship with the people of America I have never seen this situation.
