Okay so no 100 k wont' get you that life you dream of, you'll get by in BC, but you can't buy anything. You can rent, you need 200 k now in BC, Kelowna average house is 1.1 m, Vancouver 1 bedroom is 3000 +, nobody wants to live in a jail cell, but maybe some wierdo's do? I don't know. \n\nIf your working and making 100 k in Vancouver, your working likely many hours for that, meaning there is no pay off, no car, rent a small apartment, have little savings.\n\nNow here's the REAL catch. If you make what some think is rich in Canada say 300 k a year. That works out to 182,000 after taxes, pension etc. Now homes in Vancouver, well let's maybe look at small condo's, hmm lets say a 850 sq foot condo sets you back 900 k, monthly mortgage is 6000, that's 72,000 a year, insurance, no car okay can't afford it, maybe a small car, 1000 a month insurance, payments fuel etc, cable, internet phone, etc etc food, another 2000 for a family of 3, wife one child. Thats now 9000 a month, dental, eye glasses, clothes, sports, other, another 1000 a month, 10,000 a month = 120,000 a year to live in a small 2 bedroom condo in Vancouver. Oh and condo fees 500 per month, so 126,000 a year, no extras yet.\n\nmeaning if you make 300 k a year and lets add on JOB expense, usually with high income comes some expenses, lets call it 6000 a year, suits, whatever. Thats 132,000 minus the after tax income of 182 and your left with 50,000 per year for savings and xmas, travel etc.\n\nNow you make 300 k a year and you live in a small 2 bedroom apartment and maybe some day, 10 years down the road you can buy a home. \n\nAnd the max you can afford on 300 k a year is around 1 million after a 100 k deposit.\n\nNow if you make more than that, there is NO reason to live in Canada, in BC they take 48 % of my income and what do I get lol, zilch, bad health care haha fun,

Being born in Saskatchewan as well I agree that Canada has suffered immensely in the last decade. I spent the majority of my adult life in Vancouver back when you felt safe everywhere you ventured. Not now, I'm socked at the decline especially the violence and drugs. I've lived in a few other countries over the past 30 years none have surpassed what has happen in Canada. I currently live in the middle east and have never felt safer. The taxation is crazy, the health care system is substandard and getting worse. For those who want to retire, Canada is not very friendly and typically way overpriced. I'm seeing a trend over the last 10 years of people opting for a warmer more friendly climate to spend what should be your years to enjoy life. Something I fear impossible in Canada's current climate!

I am 16 years old and I'm worried for my future. I think all of my friends know in the back of their heads how unaffordable Vancouver is and it terrifies me knowing how hard it'll be to just make it by as an adult. When I was younger, I wanted to move out of Canada because I wanted to explore the world. Now, I want to move out of Canada to afford to live. Regardless of where I go, Vancouver is the last place I want to be.

All I can say is don't let the door hit you on the way out. All I hear is people like yourself who are VERY privileged complain about first world problems. And yes I'm a blue collar worker with a regular job and live in the most expensive city being Vancouver. You're not going to find a better place to live.

FEEDBACK: It boggles my mind that so few people ever put 2 and 2 together... The reason that the cost of living in greater Vancouver & Toronto is outrageous is simple: a Liberal government long ago enshrined the 'right' of new immigrants to go where they felt like, rather than where the country needed them. Simple supply & demand economics did the rest. They did this to sew up the immigrant vote. I'm bitter about it because I lost my life savings investing in a 27-suite apartment building in Winnipeg and, while Vancouver & Toronto were booming too much, there was actual out-migration from Manitoba, property values fell and I lost my apartment building. (It's very disheartening to pump more money into something when you have negative equity!) Thanks for nothing, Liberals, NDP & Conservatives too (the latter being too chicken to ever mention the issue.. they're all courting the immigrants more than the good of the country).

I can understand you so much. Though I live in Quebec and don't feel that economic pressure so much as someone living in Toronto or Vancouver, I plan to go back to Vietnam or at least in Asia. Same story, also moved to Canada(French Canada!!! :D) when I was 4, I'm 32, been in Canada like 24 years. Easy fit, my Dad was Canadian, so got Naturalized easily. I left Canada at the end of 2020. Mostly because of Covid/Work Opportunities in engineering. Now living in the USA with my Canadian Wife and visiting Canada 2 months every year, also happen to be born American, so again, easy(easier**, still hard) move for me. Currently working in engineering, less travel experience, but I did get to visit or work for long period of time in 5 countries. Anyway, I do have similar opinion, I think the solution is a federal housing initiative. We NEED to build north and have more cities than Toronto,Montreal & Vancouver. It would reduce rent & mortgage by a lot. Essentially solving the ''where are we going to put all those immigrants issue'', then secondly, we need to encourage entrepreneurship and business a lot more. We need more jobs and be less reliant on our USA neighbors or EU neighbors 3. Better transport, surprisingly a lot of Canadian don't visit all other Canadian province and prefer traveling out , hell, I want nothern Canada & Nothern Quebec to be more like Alaska, or make it easier from someone from Quebec to move to Alberta, but still easy enough to visit family and friends in their home state in under 3 hours. ;)

Now memory came back to me when I was in Vancouver for 3 days and enjoyed my time over Canada in 2015 for a concert, Canada was the first country I've visited outside of the United States I'll never for get it the people where amazing very polite there was a moment in my life that I wanted to move to Canada now thinking over my decision after some years later I'm glad I didn't. I can't believe how bad it has gotten I'm now sure its gotten worse now. We can't keep taking in immigrants when there's no housing available. The immigrants aren't moving to sparsely populated regions they all move to major centres like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Housing builds haven't kept pace. I'm sure the landlords are dancing in the streets with the inflated prices they can now charge.

I’m in Vancouver at the mo, been here for several months over the past year (from London, UK) … I don’t think this is much of a problem (check the size of the ‘crowd’ at the beginning) in reality, just blown up by the usual handful of RW windbags … it’s diverse and friendly here … sure they need to build more houses … just do it, this is Canada ffs, not the uk … population density in Canada overall is about 4 persons per sq km, in the UK it’s around 280 … and I don’t think that the UK is even full, in reality. Governments need to stop pandering to the landlord class (of which too many politicians are a part and profit from the status quo)

All the points mentioned in this video are 100% true. I live in Vancouver, and I'm an international student I really wish I knew the truth about this country before. There is no proper education, too. Everything is self-study and assignments with no campus placements. You won't get good professors in your universities because they are overbooked for the semester, and then you are left with no option but to settle for whoever you get. There's also a lot of exploitation by the desi employers who think they are the king of the world you have to do everything they say so that you don't be jobless all your work experience from India does not count here which means you won't get a decent job and even an intern requires experience of 2-3 years with base pay. The only suggestion I would like to give to the people who are planning to come here is to THINK AGAIN, do your research AGAIN. We cannot undo our years lost, BUT YOU STILL HAVE TIME.

Bro, I'm living in Vancouver from last year. Took 40 Lakhs of Loan for My MBA, chipped in money for fees. Till date I've got no benefit from Canada, except for bills and spending money on taxes and rent. This is damn true! - Work permits are getting queries, PR files are getting rejection. No job part time opportunities.\n\n1. Renting a room, especially for boys is the hardest if you are looking a private room. (my rent is 950$ for a private room, i struggle to pay this every month - without having a job)\n2. All banks want you to get enrolled as a student, then give credit cards, so you can easily buy things and pay them more and get you involved in the loop. \n3. I've applied in almost every job for part time, got rejection due to no available positions (Reasons : too many applicants)\n4. You are not gonna get a job in your field, unless you are into finance or IT with a found background.\n5. I DAILY SEE OUR PEOPLE ALSO GETTING ATTRACTED TO THIS CULTURE, SMOKING WEED ON A DAILY BASIS AND DOING MANY THINGS WHICH I FEEL STUDENTS MUST NOT DO. \n6. For my chest pain, they kept me waiting 4 hours in a line. Asked me that if i can stand and sit for a while then i must not worry. I’m also from Canada, everything stated is very true. Education is not that great as compared to what fees we pay, think again before coming. Job currently isn’t available. Part time is also hard. In part time, you will earn to complete your housing and accommodation allowance but will not able to collect for your college fees. Just count it yourself, $17.5 per hour is minimum wage and for 24 hours per week. Also minus taxes from it. If you are planning somewhere near Toronto or Vancouver, please stay way. You can try going New Brunswick either. It’s cheaper as compared.\n\nHowever, did you notice something about all the commonwealth countries, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK, etc etc. they all are facing the same problem. So, hold on your horses. Research before going. People do go different countries, might be Japan, and other countries. Don’t ask a barber if I need a haircut, similar don’t ask a consultant if I can go to Canada or Australia. They will always say Yes!

I’m a 68 yr old female Senior (caregiver) living in my car because my only option after a 3 yr wait was BC Housing near the DTES … these are SLUMS that we are supposed to be Thankful for … most of these buildings answer to no one because they get their funding from a number of sources … the STAFF are allowed to treat the Residents anyway they like, with No Conscience… if Canada can’t supply decent housing to their Citizens then they should STOP IMMIGRATION… most new immigrants are treated better financially then the citizens who live here …. The building I lived in is called PENDERA at Pender St. & Beatty Street in Vancouver… it ALL looks good from the outside so people really want to move in …. That’s when the trouble starts … I lived in a RAT INFESTED APARTMENT FOR 6 yrs!!!

My great grandfather came to Vancouver in 1920. I'm planning to move to Tokyo because of my Japanese wife. I'll be mortgage free, and even with the pension penalty for retiring early, I'll still have a much more affordable lifestyle.\n\nThx Trudeau!!! This is so interesting. I'm lucky enough to be a Singaporean and just a slightly above-average professional, I contemplated applying for Canadian PR as PR seemed achievable and I wanted a change of environment. But in 2018, I did a research trip to Vancouver and Toronto to scout out the place and talk to friends living there, and realised just from a few anecdotes that with the comparatively higher income taxes, lower salaries and higher housing prices (compared to subsidised public housing in SG, private housing in SG is still out of my reach) that I really was better off where I am. Not to mention the stagnating and less diverse economy, un-progressive tax system would penalise a single working female like me. I thought it would afford a better quality of life for young families due to the maternity leave policy - not sure if I was on the mark for that

Let's make Canada great again. Actually I'm kidding. Let's not go down that road. It's easy to poke holes, and cherry pick problems, much harder to appreciate the good things we have. Canada has problems for sure but every place does and we really don't have it so bad. Unreasonable expectations are just as big of a problem as high prices. If Vancouver is too expensive then go somewhere else. I did. Canada is a big place. Very big. There are loads of opportunities if you get out of the rut you are in and stop thinking that life owes you a certain lifestyle.

I'm born in the UK to Serbian parents, but grown up in Norway so I've seen three different cultures in my life all at once. I always liked Canada for being diverse because then I wouldn't have to switch between being English, Serbian or Norwegian, I could be more me because I am basically multicultural. For years I've idealised Canada and it wasn't until just two weeks ago that I got to visit and see for myself what Canada is like. I was in Toronto and also in Vancouver visiting a family that moved there from the UK I hadn't seen since I was a kid. I loved the nature (Especially Vancouver my god!) and the people, but I learned about how extremely expensive housing in Canada is to the point that it would be hard to make ends meet just renting a place let alone buying a house. Also how immigration is out of control and those who do come to Canada are disproportionately from one country being India rather than many different, which is not good for maintaining diversity. This is something I saw having lived most of my two weeks in Mississauga just south of the airport.\n\nI hope you guys finally get someone better in the next election, because I have more hopes for Canada than I do for the UK. Imagine 2050. Most people who are 65+ today will be deceased. Most of their children have 1 or no children. 100,000 per year dead from drugs (that's at least 2,600,000). Now add the number of Canadian born who are permanently leaving. What will be left. Most importantly, according to the NDP//Liberals, my statements are all racist. There is no problem. I'm 68, born in Vancouver. My wife and I are leaving next year (by the way, she's a well-educated Filipina who can't wait to leave).

I'm originally from Canada but I've been living in the US for the past 15 years. I transited through the Vancouver airport recently and almost EVERYONE who worked there was of South Indian descent (won't generalize - but from the Indian subcontinent). It was an astounding thing to see. It's really changed since when I was younger. So interesting to see and such a contrast from Southern California. Although, if you go back 50 years, they probably said the same thing about Eastern European people.

I want my country back. I want the surrounding areas in Vancouver, BC to be Canadian again. I'm sick of feeling like I am living in someone else's country whenever I walk around my neighbourhood or take public transit to see the majority of bus/skytrain passengers are from South Asian countries. If that isn't bad enough, seeing them use our country as a platform for their religion/politics that belong on the other side of the world and not on Canadian soil.

No we cannot afford the rate of immigration that we have had recently. We don’t have the infrastructure in all our institutions. If you can’t provide quality healthcare to the citizens then clearly you can’t be accepting hundreds of thousands new immigrants per year. No citizen should have to wait fir over a year for any surgery. Also, our healthcare system fails to cover therapies to address chronic pain which has significant impact on overall health and even mobility. Also I’m so sick of hearing about Toronto and Vancouver. The cost of housing is a huge problem in all cities. There are no job opportunities for most students not just international.

I came in Windsor Ontario as a foreign worker in 2009, wasn't the best time to look for a job there but still. I did 1 year of studying, worked again, left for Alberta in 2012 where I still am. Got my PR in 2014 and citizenship in 2022. Most of the things I hear against living in Canada must be true, I don't doubt it but I'm just not aware of them. I didn't even know there was a bank account freezing during COVID. It wasn't easy to get a good job, I had to leave for a small community in Alberta to get the most of what I wanted and that's why I am oblivious to the harsher reality that people have to endure in Toronto or Vancouver. But the thing is, as soon as I landed in Toronto and got robbed 50$ by some guy (this is just an anecdote not the real reason), I knew I shouldn't try to make a living there. I know job opportunities are in those big cities but please, if you can, there are great communities that need people, workers, consumers and families. If you can land a job there, move! At least try. It doesn't even have to be that far up north, nor to be a mini small village. Small city, rural living, no criminality, cheap housing, lots of space, family friendly, no traffic, no wait time to see a doctor, friendly people, douchebags, we have it here. Are they drawbacks? Yes of course. Need to drive 1 or 2 hour to get a scan or an MRI, car dependance is exacerbated but hey, it feels like a free country where no one have been overpriced...yet.

The entire thing is a lie. We don't need people...we're a Country whose GDP is built on Natural resources...Not Tim Horton workers. And now with AI we'll need even fewer workers but it's too late...they're in, and they can now bring in all their relatives. Canada is already gone...I was born and raised in Vancouver and it began right after Expo 86 with China flooding Vancouver. It's all part of the plan...it's planned to collapse. It's clearly an agenda at this point. Not once in the history of Canada have we built more than 200K new homes, yet here we are with a 500K per year mandate on new immigrants, with last year bringing in 1.2M? How can you as a Government deliberately do that to the citizens of your Country? We were all sold down the river for new votes and tax dollars...and of course the eventual realignment for a one-world currency.

To be fair you weren't meant to move to Toronto or Vancouver when you came here. If you moved to places like Alberta or outside the major cities you would be fine with wages and cost of living. People who were born in Vancouver and Toronto had to move out the city so I'm not sure why immigrants think they're entitled to just show up in some of the most expensive cities in the world and have it easy.

I’m not sure what is meant by “making friends” exactly. In my opinion, finding people you can be open with and trust takes years, no matter where you live on this planet. So, for what it’s worth, I thought Calgarians to be easygoing, Montrealers to be outgoing but click-ish, and people in Ottawa kind of dull (at a social group level). I’ve only spent a couple of weeks in Vancouver as a traveler so I can’t really judge but my sister and a friend who both studied and worked in Vancouver - and who are both outgoing people- found it difficult to crack through social circles in Vancouver. They basically thought that Vancouverites are a little elitist/snobby.

Canadian here, from Vancouver. This is 100% true. Why do we accept so many immigrants? Because we have to. We can't afford to have our own kids. It's too expensive. As my kids are finishing their post secondary education, I'm going to suggest taking their edu and leaving Canada for the USA - higher wages, more affordable cost of living. It's actually simple math.

I'm 75, was born in Toronto, lived in Vancouver, New York City, but moved back to Toronto in 1985. Toronto was/ is a great city from May to late October. Today the developers own the politicians. Toronto, is now all terrible condos, ugly steel with glass walls. So sad what has happened to my Toronto, the Toronto I used to know.

I lived in Western Europe, Japan and at the moment, Canada. I lucked out getting a well paying job in Vancouver when I moved back a few years ago and my average tax rate is actually the exact percentage you stated in the video - 28%, which includes income tax, pension and employment insurance. I'm actually doing better in terms of quality of life now but I do miss being able to travel around Europe for cheap. (e.g., quick train ride to Paris for the weekend) Now, I take cheap flights (e.g. Flair Airlines) to Mexico instead.\n\nJust to state some data points: when I was in Europe, I paid a total average of 39% income tax on a lower salary than I have right now in Canada. Things like utilities (e.g., gas/electricity), restaurants, certain grocery items and electronics (e.g., iphone/PS5/computers) were significantly more expensive because European VAT (inclusive) is usually 20%+. \n\nI don't have the exact numbers but on average I believe I was paying 70 - 90€ ($100 - 130 CAD) just for electricity each month for a small flat, but I am now paying $30 - 50 CAD for a decent sized 1 bedroom. I believe my housing gas bill was about the same or possibly a bit more. In addition, automobile gas prices were much higher (about $2€/L on average which is $2.90 CAD/L) and I think they could go even higher right now. \n\nHowever, rent is definitely more expensive in Vancouver, but I believe that is true for many West coast cities in North America. Right now I'm paying $2300 CAD a month for a 1BR, and I split that amount with my partner. In comparison, it would have been about €1300 ($1900 CAD) for something similar in the city where I was living previously. In a more expensive city (e.g. Amsterdam) a 1BR would easily cost €1800+ ($2650 CAD).\n\nFor me, the difficulty of making friends in my late 20's stays about the same. I think it is difficult to make new friends after graduating from school, and you have to put yourself out there by joining groups and events. (e.g. Meetup or volunteering?)

When you are successful, due to your innovative methods, or providing for workers what they need, they cut you down saying > that you are propagating socialism in Canada, or will begin to block you, while using elite high tech mind controls... In my case they started to block my incoming business calls, because people I know for 30 years and I met in person in restaurants or while shopping, they just complained to me saying> I wanted to give you contract and I needed your reasonable services and tell me> why you are not unswerving my incoming cell phone calls? I mean, I sit in Starbucks in good reception zone and having two of cellphones and there is nothing....Maybe the other providers will not want to cross connect phone call to a Fido?
