I grew up in Brazil, been living in the UK for a long time, I've been to Toronto in 2017 and LA, New York, I saw homelessness everywhere. In the UK things have been bad for a long time. Accommodation is very expensive and landlords are very dishonest. I would definitely assume the UK has become a Third World Country. \n\nI would love to live in Canada but these days, Canada, US, Australia, UK and even New Zealand are very expensive places to live. I am aware more and more Westerns are moving to Southeast Asian countries > Cheap, Good people, Good food and is not full of drugs as it is in Western countries.

Thanks so much for sharing this Alina! I can relate to what you're going through - I was born in the UK, moved to the US at 11 and then moved back to the UK at 24. I decided to leave the US because I began to realise that it's just not an ideal place to work and raise a family. The state I lived in (South Carolina) has a better quality of life than, say, California, New York, Oregon, Washington or New Jersey, but overall the US just doesn't do an adequate job of caring for its citizens, and the US government (especially those left of centre) has its priorities in the wrong place. The UK has its own problems no doubt, but overall the UK does a much better job of caring for its citizens than the US does. \n\nIt'll be more difficult for you than it was for me because you'll be going to an entirely new country where you have no family and no social network, but you're an intelligent and daring woman, you seem to be quite comfortable around new people, and you'll settle into wherever you end up very quickly. This again is why upstate and downstate New York needs to be divided into two separate states us upstate New Yorkers cannot continue to carry the financial burden of the mistakes that the downstate New York City folk are choosing to make! Now we have a lot of New York City folk moving to upstate New York and it is jacking the prices of our housing as well as everything else around us. They’re bringing their big money here in upstate New York and they’re screwing it up for all of us people who have lived here our whole lives.

Regardless of how these illegals are getting over the border New York City is at The Crux of the matter. New York city's policy on illegal immigrants has virtually slipped a noose around the neck of the city and its residents. If the city does not do an about face with this policy now, I believe the quality of life for us that live here and the migrants will drop drastically. You can't entice these people to come here illegally so that they can receive a better life that no one can deliver.

Wow, crazy. It's insane once you know that nearly 100 percent of people living in New York are from an immigrant background, a lot of them coming from across the sea.

No joke the reason every keeps talking about how bad new york is getting is because of the amount of migrants coming in, and the crime keeps rising as well because of these people. New york is one of the worst places to come to if you have no money almost impossible to live. And it sucks to think this way but in alot of these countries their norms for how they treat women is alot different than here so you get alot of those attitudes coming over here.

If the post Covid housing crisis were under control, Trudeau would have done something by now. Rent here is no more expensive in the US in fact probably more expensive in New York than in a city like Ottawa Toronto or Montreal. Yes Vancouver is an expensive place to live but not all of it. You are overreacting. The city has so much to offer and all cities have problems but you live with it. I’ve lived with many cities in America that people knock but yet I love them. Toronto and Vancouver are the most expensive cities in Canada. That would be comparable to wanting to live in New York City or San Francisco. Most people in either country don't opt to live in the most expensive cities.

I'm 75, was born in Toronto, lived in Vancouver, New York City, but moved back to Toronto in 1985. Toronto was/ is a great city from May to late October. Today the developers own the politicians. Toronto, is now all terrible condos, ugly steel with glass walls. So sad what has happened to my Toronto, the Toronto I used to know.

Last time I was in toronto, 1980, it was the most beautiful, clean city I'd ever been to. I was living in New York city at the time and it was such as difference. We went to all sorts of neighborhoods and never felt uncomforatable.

Inflation has hit worldwide. Prices surged after COVID with no signs of going down and now we are at a point that we've been anchored to these prices. Sometimes I dissuade myself from the occasional treat. I thought Popeye's was halal in Canada. While I now live in a state with 100,000+ Muslim population, I wish there were a lot more halal eatery options. This is a stark contrast from where I was living in Long Island, New York, where there were close to 30 halal eateries in a 3-mile radius. New York City has now permitted the azaan to be broadcasted over loudspeaker for every week jumu'ah and during Ramazan every maghrib as well. Even with all the halal options and large Muslim neighborhoods, NYC has its own challenges. A designated shoes-off place of worship for all faiths in establishments would be nice, be it malls, superstores, or airports.

You want to live in Toronto, the third largest city in North America on average salary? I think that’s an unrealistic expectation when you compare the rent to cities like New York and Miami. I think given its current size and growth trajectory, Toronto is still on the affordable size and it will get much more expensive in the future. I visited Toronto and the GTA area, all you can see is new construction, businesses packed with people. May be Canada bit more than it could chew and the economy has not grown since COVID making inflation pinch even more. My only problem was due to the rapid expansion, the city seemed to lack a soul which comes through organic growth. All I could see was broad highways, residential areas packed with housed and large shopping complexes.

I get paid double then I would have if I had gotten a job in Canada any way ….. forget Canadian experience it’s not worth moving to Canada the country has changed. I think that a lot of people who seem to hate Canada in this comment section are either from Toronto and Vancouver, the two most expensive cities in the country, but these two cities don't represent Canada as a whole. \n\nPersonally I live in a smaller city in Québec (Saguenay) and life quality is super good, there are a lot of job opportunities and housing is very cheap, and it is an amazing place for outdoor lovers\n\nI saw many comments saying that the US is cheaper than Canada... Those people simply don't compare what's comparable. If you compare Toronto with comparable cities in the US like New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, Toronto is in fact MUCH cheaper. If I compare my city with comparable cities in the US, well it turns out that Saguenay is much cheaper\n\nSo before wanting to move to another country, you can simply think about moving within Canada. If however you hate winter, then there's no reason to stay here ?

Cost of living in New York State is very high, I am 12 generations in my country. 40 hours a week doesn’t seem to make enough money to not fall behind

My parents came from India to the US and eventually became professors at the University of Arizona in Tucson where the cost of living was relatively low. Being an only child made our living standard that much better. Had we lived in a city like New York or San Francisco, the cost of living would have been much higher and possibly we would not have lived as well. But then there are many places in the US where the cost of living is even less than where we lived in Arizona! Indeed, in the United States, the cost of living can substantially vary depending on where you live.
