I lived in Canada from 1983 to 2016 after I left the US Air Force in '83. I was born in the SF Bay area, and grew up there in the Hippie peace love/Viet Nam era in the 60's and 70's. I now live in Seattle. As we have travelled to San Fran, New Orleans, Nashville, Miami, Vancouver (Canada) and New York in the last 6 months, I kinda have a pretty good idea how it was on both sides of the border way back then, as well as right now. We have 2 rental homes, and I STILL have to work until I'm 70 to retire without worrying about losing it all because of the the high cost of health care. Your observation of race/political/religion relations are naive at best, you need to travel the country first hand to see it. Canada has it's far share of right wing crazies as well. They're mostly not armed, and most fights are 5 minute shouting matches. I know this because I work on construction sites. Canada doesn't have commercials for pharma or ambulance chasers. Because big pharma is kept in check, and with a population slightly smaller than California, frivolous lawsuits would clog the courts. If the PM killed some one on the corner of Yonge and Bloor in Toronto, he'd go to jail. You can get an abortion in Canada. There's a fraction of the Fentanyl crisis happening in Canada, and they have waaayy less homeless in the street. Canada has 2 weeks paid vacation AND paid holidays. The tax rate is higher in Canada, but many of the benefits make up the difference. It's cheaper to buy a house in Seattle than Vancouver. You can get a 30 year mortgage in Washington as well, instead of 5 or 10 years. Good and services tend to be cheaper and more plentiful Stateside. Mail service runs on weekends, it hasn't done that in Canada since the 80's. As it stands, I'm in Seattle right now because it isn't the typical US city by far. But I'm thinking when it comes to retiring, I'm putting Canada on the list. Being a dual citizen also makes me eligible for the other Commonwealth (universal health care) countries like Australia.

I'm in Mobile Alabama and half the population lives in trailer Parks while they build whole neighborhoods every year that go unpurchased and they keep hiring more police to chase the ever growing homeless population around the city pretending they're doing the lords work.\n\nSome of you think these Mexicans are going to take your jobs, but I ask you: what jobs? The rich have already taken everything from you, the only thing these Mexicans can do is make shit cheaper, but the rich wont let that price drop because investors want to see infinite growth, even if they have to tear it out of our corpses like a starving vulture.\n\nBut capitalism is what made this country great, right? Not unions fighting for a 40 hour week, the minimum wage jump from 40¢ to 75¢ in 1950, then over $1 by '56, effectively doubling wages that made America the most prosperous it had ever been. Not the Dwight D Eisenhower interstate system before auto lobbies rallied against the development of a national commuter rail system, giving the rails to 4 big companies that refuse to allow passenger cars on their rails without massive fees because freight has a higher profit margin. And certainly not pension funds before they were dissolved in favor of the 401k, and the social security politicians are constantly working to cut while ever increasing the retirement age past what most people will never live to now that 45% of our water is tainted with PFOAs that will have everyone born today die of liver cancer before the age of 65.\n\nIt was CAPITALISM that made this country! The same capitalism that claws back every penny it can from working class people. America was great DESPITE capitalism. UNDERSTAND THAT.

So all you americans who said that europe shouldn’t close borders,let them all in,... Where are you now? You know how many will end up doing what need to be done? 30% all the other end up in jail,homeless,social benefits,... means less for your people,slower help if needed,more taxmoney gone,crimes rises,d*pe already floods the street well it will come worse.. Well next is people\nstruggling instead off a couple months or 2years will now struggle 5-10y,housing? damn instead of a few months to 1y now? 4-6y.. that’s happening in europe now because off mass immigration because off your wars.. our great system fails.. and most don’t come for\nthe wright reasons,never had a job,have problems,wants family or friends to come than they stay illegally and go on and on.. This is why close border everywhere and each country needs to get those f up politicians out,send back those who are here for the wrong reasons and help your own people and country back where it should be in a good mindset,more equality,tax money spend on the right things,... They all think the\nwest is the beloved land but to much and no more beloved land or money..

Im 24 and been searching for a job for 1 year now. Not even 10 interviews. Im applying for EVERYTHING. Retail, production work, general labour, overnight work, housekeeping, cleaning / janitorial work, painting, customer service, call center, sales, factories..etc \nI'm applying in different cities and willing to take GO transit to work. \nI live near lots of big cities and somehow although they claim to be understaffed, they aren't hiring. \n \nI'd like to know the reason for this? There's nothing improving, homelessness is a MAJOR issue that is not being addressed but we are still taking in more people. These people are suffering and so many trying to get a job. \n \nI've contacted MANY agencies and they have had no jobs available FOR MONTHS \n \nCanada is only going to increase in homelessness. Theres been no improvement :(\n\nPeople suffering from homelessness and depression have been taking the euthanasia route because it feels like there's no hope or other option.

We should only help those that help themselves. I see many commenting on our homeless and how we can’t help everyone. I guarantee you wouldn’t see our homeless walk 100 miles to get help. These individuals come here to work. I’d gladly take these individuals over the trash that burdens our cities.

Oh, the app must have been down then…..\n\nThis is an all out crisis. Colonialism stole everything valuable from their mother land, and then doesn’t have any place for them to go afterwards. It’s like if someone came into your house, stole all of your food and possessions & destroyed the house— but now blames you for being homeless AND has the audacity to be offended that you’d ask them for a place to sleep while you rebuild. \n\nThere is no easy solution, but Portugal, UK, Spain, Netherlands etc…need to help rebuild the infrastructure they ruined. Oh wait— most of them are struggling now and small. Sooooo— yeah. What a mess.

I just don't get it ; we have so many homeless. Seems like due to warmer weather they'd be better to stay in Mexico. We aren't a rich country anymore. We don't have the $ to pay them for jobs....

I think people with You Tube videos promoting Canada as a place to live are paid to do those videos. \nYour assessment regarding Canada is bang on. \nI feel sad for people who come here with the belief that their lives will be better, Only to find out that they are far worse off. \nI've noticed the cost of groceries and housing have tripled in the last few years.\nVery difficult to get a Dr in Canada. 50.000 people in my small province are without a Dr. \nPeople are being neglected by Canada's healthcare system to the point of dying right in the hospital waiting rooms or while waiting for an ambulance. Yet, A huge chunk of taxes go toward healthcare. \nHomeless encampments are on the rise as landlords are gouging people for exorbitant rent. Streets are lined with homeless people and with the high cost of living it could be anyone of us carting our humble belongings around in a shopping cart.\nIf you have children I'd avoid sending them to Canadian schools and opt for homeschooling. Your children will be read to by drag queens while sitting on some strangers lap. \nThis week in class my neighbors son class will be showing boys how to paint their nails. They've already been taught about every kind of sexual position and how to use condoms and butt plugs. There so many jobs that are over working their employees but those employees also want to work because of the high cost of living cost of living should not be so high no one should be homeless … owning a home or renting should be affordable for everyone that’s is willing to work a normal 30 to 40 hr work week … shouldn’t be no such thing as unemployment but sadly this is the case because of greedy business owner greedy government so many things that is the reason for struggling world in the end we all need to accept Jesus Christ as our lord d and saviour, repent of your sins turn towards righteousness caring and loving each other

There's not even homes or enough space for Americans have u not seen how much is pretty much homeless or living with family cuz we can't afford to live alone bruh they need to do something about this if it was Americans doing this we'd all be held responsible

I feel for them. I really do but where are they gonna go? People are struggling to find places to live who were born here plus all the homeless population. Where do these people think they’re gonna go? I know if I were born in a third world country I’d be wanting to get into America as well so it’s just sad all around to see

This is obviously illegal but people need to remember that our “homeless population” is chalk full of scummy junkies that don’t want to work and succeed. I’d wager these people will actually get a job given the chance. Maybe just round up all of our homeless junkies and drop them off in Mexico and Venezuela. Even the score

I'd rather be arrested than live in Mexico or certain parts of the U.S. (i.e., look at the number of homeless in L.A. for example). Hopefully the Liberal gov't will do a decent job of vetting who gets in or not.

bunch of fuckin idiots, why would you come to canada? At least in the states they enforce laws and let everyone defend themselves with guns. All we got here are homeless camps and frozen wastelands. Ok racism definitely exists, and the doctors are hard to get, mostly we welcome immigrants, homelessness and drug use enabling is real, but most of the other problems aren’t that big compared to other places honestly. I always feel privileged to live here because I’d trade other things other countries have for free health care s thousand times over. I do feel bad for people that struggle and have to use their life savings for one surgery for example or spend $2000.00 to have a baby in the hospital. I lived in the states for awhile when I was young as well. I remember a white racist lady pointed a rifle at me and my black friend in Missouri when I was 6 years old, here I don’t have to worry about that happening to my kindergartener.

Living in the city of Vienna for me, in an already safe country-with everything else that’s an advantage-I have never seen myself moving to the US: kindergarten, School, University and Healthcare is part of the national budget. The poor are housed, high minimum wage, mandated and protected leave, 14 full checks a year, very little homelessness and crime, tap water is literal spring water extracted straight form the mountains, food is so pure and organic I never gain weight, I don’t know why I’d ever leave Austria.

The subtle racism you talk about can’t be that bad because these people are still willing to leave their own countries to flock to North America. Their own government and people don’t give a shit about so they come to North America and bitch about the racism. As far as homeless goes this people are there because they want to be, the government gives them an incredible amount of support to get back on there feet but they’re lazy and you know it, stop making excuses for them. These fucking immigrants come here and exploit all the benefits that the country offers. Let’s face it they don’t give a shit our society. So true. We are so heavily taxed here in Canada, especially Quebec. The government has so much money in the bank that they kept overdoing those street roads, highway and even bike path again and again. They are wasting our money more than ever. And more than ever, there' s also a lot of homeless people on the street , because they'd use that kind of excuses not to give them their unemployment insurance benefits after loosing their job , but would force them to get welfare assistance instead. where the money is barely enough to pay for their monthly groceries and that`d leave them to make a choice between their rents or to go hungry.

Weird. I'm WHITE, I live in Ottawa, and I have been attempting to get an apartment for years. I cannot get one. If it wasn't for friends, I'd be homeless. Yes, I have a job.
