I get the impression that Trump would like Canada to set up some shops in the US and get some benefits to help build the shops. When a new tariff is put in place, you have to call Trump to remove the tariff like last time.

I think it is time to use all the unused land to grow our vegetation and any thing else that gets planted to use for the Canadian. Trump seeks to weaken the United States, force Canada into the 51st state, annex Greenland, restrict Mexico economically, repossess the Panama Canal and put it all at Putin's feet. Trump is pursuing Putin's agenda at a time in the history of the earth when climate change is opening up the Arctic Ocean and the North Pole to industrialization and commercialization along new routes never seen before . Canada has known for decades that we have put too many eggs in one basket - selling our resources primarily to the USA. We've had tariffs before and worked with them. Yet we still keep selling to the USA. This time is different. In conjunction with the tariffs, we have an American administration that is flat out insulting Canada. Saying we wouldn't exist economically if it wasn't for the USA. It's at a time when the USA won't promise not to use military force to annex land (Greenland) from a decades old ally. A time when clearly Putin is calling in his chips for whatever he has over Donald Trump. Canadians have had enough. We are directing our governments, provincial and federal, to finally, finally break from the north-south trade links. We need to establish stronger east-west trade links. The resources we have are wanted by many countries if the USA does not want them. It does mean much work within Canada. We need to get our AB-BC pipeline finished as well as the new sea terminal so we can ship our crude oil and natural gas to Japan and if need be, to China. We finally need to get out pipeline to the Atlantic coast finished so we can supply the UK and EU with our products. We need to double our rail capacity for shipping potash, uranium, rare minerals to Asia or Europe. Just as Trump hopes for a golden age of American companies coming home and building new plants in the USA, this will be a golden decade for Canada to create transportation corridors to get our resources to other buyers. America will have to look elsewhere for his raw materials. And we all know what that is - RUSSIA. They've already offered their rare minerals and crude oil. This is all clearly a well thought out scenario from the people working behind Trump to dismiss America's allies and trading partners - have us turn against the USA - as the excuse to open the door to Russian imports into the USA.

In a best case scenario, DJT will rescind the tariffs on Canadian goods. In the worst case, we get even poorer. If this happened after Trump became president the first time, the economy was strong from 4 years of Obama's presidency. Then COVID happened, and for alot of folks here, they haven't recovered financially. Savings and retirement plans are gone. Rent is higher, for many it takes over 50% of their income. So in this emergency time, there's nothing to fall back on. Oh and DOGE will cut SNAP benefits, I'm sure. That's food stamps, meant for the people struggling. It's becoming more and more of Americans. \nAm I depressed? No, I lived through Reagan's presidency. I'm cautious about life, my job, commuting to work, putting food on the table. I'm gonna try growing veggies. I already eat 75% of my meals at home or taken from home-cooked meals. I'm saving as best I can.
