We shouldn’t be preparing for an influx we need to prepare to close our borders. No more asylum seekers into Canada. Our resources are for the people that pay for them not for those who come here to benefit from our better standard of living. Fix things back home and then immigrate through the proper channels. We don’t need tent cities full of asylum seekers. For those that want to let all those people in then they have to go sign up to take responsibility for them with consequences if they don’t. I would bet the lineup for that would be very short.

Those who dont know why the border must have a swinging door which swings both ways, as All companies take advantage of south of the border because of vheap labor and laxed regulation so they can get away with what they can get away on us soil. Now you get someone like chump who has zero tolerance and no political experience run it like a business with out understanding of the consequences that comes with actions done with out beabke to compromise. You all complain about inflation, now get ready in your everyday lives, from manufacturing, to groceries, to dining out, and be prepared to pay alot more because now, no one is going to do thise jobs as the so called americans didnt want to do those jobs, as its always gone unspoken that hey they are doing it, and reeps the fruits of the laborors and could care less until it got out of hand as of today. Furthermore, and regardless of the issue of foreign students, and their spouses, the lack of offordability will not significantly improve, as the supply is the accumulation of many years of deficit, due to bureaucratic, regulatory reasons, and the lacking, or the deficiency in housing policy, at all government levels, and all related taxation, budgeting, financing, and general economic policy adopted , or omitted in dealing with inflation, interest rate manipulation by the Banque of Canada, inadequate competion issues, investment in main street, instead of the Wall of Bay Street, political sanctions, and tariffs, etc..This immigration issue needs to consider the demographic, and labor needs of Canada, while in the same time, or in tandem, prepare for the required housing supply, and other needs, and requirements in term of reviewing the rules and procedures, pertaining to integrating the professional immigrants in their professions instead of excluding them from professional organizations such the medical, and the ingeneering, professions and so on. Many of such professional resources are driving cabs in Toronto, Vancouver,and Montreal. So to blame the housing crises on the immigrants only, will not define completely the housing crisis, and may not help to solve it.

Immigration needs to be planned and prepared. Flooding people in without assessing the local issues often lead to disaster.

The caregiver program should go through reform. With the current immigration law with giving the caregivers Permanent Residency putting a lot of pressure on the employers who are working hard and paying taxes to bring the caregivers in Canada. The caregivers are taking advantages by exercising their rights as soon as they lands in Canada. Where is the protection for the employers who are working round the clock to bring the caregivers but the caregivers are abusing the systems and goodwills of the employers. The caregiver program should be like it was before when the caregivers needed to work here for 10 years to get the permanent residency. Otherwise it is becoming difficult for the employers to retain the newly hired caregivers under the new program as the caregivers are getting PR as soon as they lands. Employers need protection. Employers brings caregivers from foreign lands and as soon as they arrive the caregivers can quit and change employer and start exercising their rights as PR - it has to stop to protect the employer because of the employers hard earned money and goodwill they can land here, employers should not suffer for their goodwill and needs.\nWe Canadian employers need workers not the abusers.\nThe caregivers should be brought in temporary work permit and sent back or give PR after 10 years after they contribute to Canada but not award them with PR as soon as they land. Otherwise the lack of workers in this field will never be fulfilled. Many people from poor countries like Philippines are waiting eagerly to come even with low wages, because the money they get is huge compared to any third world countries.\nThis is not justice to indian students who came here to study are preparing to contribute are being sent back.

These whole Canada thing was a Scam from both sides. Canadian University needed Dollars from foreigners and the foreigners needed Canadian residency. Both sides never focused to develop any skill which can then prepare these students to participate in the development of the Canadian economy. Indeed most of them landed as low pay unskilled labours who then became liability on Canadians rather than any asset. These days you do not need a degree to develop any kind of IT skill. One get develop IT skills online free of cost or at minimal cost. Come back to your country and focus on developing any skill or if not interested in studying then do some business.

I have met a lot of Indians both good and bad. When you go to a store or somewhere you have this race of people who won't speak Canadian language, unless it's absolutely necessary. God forbid if you say to them they should speak English ior French in Canada, you are always called racist. When you hear of a murder of drug raid, it's almost always an Indian name. Hell, when you are cut off in traffic, well as you said in ithe beginning they look like you, not me. As I said at the first I have met and made friends with Indians, but it begins to piss you off, when there are so many. Our government has to stop the import of one race and if need be choose a little of all races, and prepare.

I feel bad for those who were duped into coming here to Canada. They had big dreams of becoming successful here, instead not being able to do that and being forced to live in cramped accommodations. I work in healthcare, and a lot of people who work in the facility in which I'm employed were brought here from the Philippines and India, mostly. Some were hired directly by this employer, while others came here some other way. Those with professions like being an RN were under the impression that it wouldn't take that long or be that difficult to get their Canadian certification to work as RNs here. Instead, they found out that the process for that here in Canada is a lot tougher and takes a lot longer than they'd been led to believe. So many are left not being able to use their education to its fullest, instead working as care aides until they can get the proper certification. I know that this has also happened with doctors and engineers and to many in other professions for which they went to school for years. It's a real shame.\n\nThis massive influx of people coming from other countries, though, has been really tough on those of us who were already living here. It's been way too many people, and we just weren't prepared. It's been one of the biggest factors in the huge increase of cost of living and, of course, it's by far the reason we have an enormous housing shortage.\n\nI'm not completely anti-immigration, but I think that it needs to be stopped, at least for a while. Let us deal with what's going on now instead of bringing in more people that would only help to make things worse, through no fault of their own. There's no reason that we need to have more people coming here right now. We have way more than enough people here right now.

We are then given points, with the hope that the next generations one day pay for our own pensions. See the problem?\n\nInstead, people’s hard earned monthly payments towards pension could have instead have been invested for them into actively-managed portfolios of bonds, equities and commodities. Thereby, each and every person currently on pension could have enjoyed the benefits of decades of compounding growth!\n\nNow we are here, as the video says, 2 workers are needed to cover the pension of 1 retired person. This is absolutely absurd and they will never be able to attract 400,000 new skilled workers every year with the current issues highlighted in this video.\n\nMy best advice - when you are working in Germany, seriously think about it to save and invest a portion of your net income and prepare yourself for a future where you cannot solely rely on your German pension!

I think all we need to do is pay more attention to what’s happening throughout Europe! In Manitoba it’s a little bit easier but the RTB is such a drawn out process. \n\nYou need to have justifying grounds. Easy. They didn’t pay. You have to serve them their termination, with a minimum of five business days to vacate. This is where it gets tricky. You have to attempt at least 3 times on different dates at different times of the day. Usually around 7:00 AM, Noon, around 7:00 PM. If that fails. You have to pay to be allowed to post the notice on the door. After that you have declare they’ve been served. Then book a hearing which can take a month or more. At the hearing which can take hours or minutes depending on how well prepared you are, or how much the tenant wants to argue. \n\nOnce the hearing is concluded. It can take 1-2 weeks to get the final decision. If they’re told to vacate. They usually have 5 business days before you can involve law enforcement. Which then takes another week for them to show up. Finally the landlord can change the locks. \n\nExcept, the tenant can then file an appeal. And take the landlord back into a hearing which can take another month. If the tenant fails to change the verdict it’s final. Then you need permission from the RTB to send them to collections, which can then take months if ever, to get the money back.

When I came to Canada as student 10 years ago I \n- never planned to work part time when I was in school. I only made the move when I had enough money to live and thrive without off campus jump\n- I am SHOCKED when people say they aren’t prepared. Where is google buddy. \n- I was planned enough to not take up any low skilled jobs. I live in Canada and yes it is a very nice place to live but half of what you said is not accurate. Nothing will prepare you for how long and cold the winters are. I have lived in canada my whole life. \nHere are the main hurdles:\n1. Cost of realestate and cost of living. You need white collar wages just to be able to rent, not buy, rent an apartment in most major cities. Cost of homes is insane as well.\n2. Jobs often pay low wages below what is needed to afford to live unless its white collar or trades working overtime hours. The jobs that do pay well often get hundreds of applications making your chances lower.\n3. Dentists cost an arm and a leg. The cost of it is insane unless you have a really good coverage plan from your job. \n4. Healthcare moves at a snails pace. Not good if you have a serious illness or disease.\n5. The climate overall sucks. Its not cold. Its ridiculously cold.\n\nMy advice: Be made of money. \nSeriously though, have a huge savings and have a long term financial plan. Getting jobs that pay a living wage here as newcomers here are HARD to get because they always want Canadian work experience. University education from other countries other than the US, UK, or Australia don't count here. Be prepared to live very humbly unless you are just made of money.\n\nI dont even want to live in canada anymore. I was just forced by my husband to come here in 2010. I never plan to live abroad but I went for the sake of the kids and dont want regret. My husband is mentally ill even before we got married(family took advantage of me when they saw I was an independent widow that time). Upon arriving here, nothing was prepared,no beds no nothing just the social housing and he was already orienting me to get food from food bank and simply convinced me to follow here for the child benefits,free education and healthcare. Let me just mention, the family of my husband is claiming they were rich and prominent in the Philippines. Fast forward....14 years after, he didnt get a house for us....I just ran after him for child support....he didnt finish the divorce process that I ask him to do upon arrival....now, that its time for him to pay tution fee for college, he is mad! He is so desperate that he brainwashed one of his sons to blame me and make me feel like the whole thing is my fault! My son almost killed me last time bec his dad getting sympathy and ranting that he has no money. This is the biggest regret of my life......I believe if my sons are educated and grew up in the Philippines, they are more happy and was able to tap all their talents and intelligence. I am done here! And for people telling me that the money we earn here we dont get in the Philippines....sorry, my peace of mind and dignity has no price tag. I am not materialistic too. If you need any service in Canada, from medical (it's not free) to travel (one suitcase free, but only one way on a return flight- you have to pay to bring it back!), paying several dollars to make a withdrawal from your own bank(!), highest internet fees x worst reliability in N America, just prepare to bend over and hold that position until your legs give out. Being an Indian living in Canada for over 22 years and working in healthcare system, I would highly recommend to check your vitamin levels (especially vitamin D, B12 if vegetarians) and general health regularly (it applies to those living in US and European countries). A known phenomenon that occurs especially during darker colder months is Seasonal effective disorder (SAD) and needs to be dealt with before it turns in depression. \n \nLife is hard l, no matter where you live but if you decide to move to foreign countries…just be prepared to face difficulties and adjust your expectations accordingly.

It’s been 5 years for me here and I honestly can say I have achieved nothing in my life yet. It scares me when I think I can’t return whatever my parents had invested in me. Canada is very bad now because the government invites many immigrants, before they build enough houses. The Canadian government needs to prepared well pay salaries and create enough jobs otherwise many lives will end up on the streets.

Not entirely accurate. It's pro-wealthy immigration here in Canada absolutely. It's citizenship for sale. Not necessarily wealthy in terms of really wealthy (like Switzerland) but it's definitely citizenship for sale, so if you don't have money, don't bother. Newcomers with medical and engineering expertise can't get jobs here in Canada, in spite of our healthcare system being on the point of collapse and our supposed hi-tech push. Regulatory boards here have made it impossible. Estimates are around 175000 qualified, internationally trained doctors and nurses who gave up trying to practice here and moved into other careers. Ukrainian doctors, for eg, with extensive trauma experience and willing to staff our emergency departments have been told they have to requalify by going to Canadian medical school to retrain for at least 4 years. Same story in engineering. By IT, our government seems to mean low-paid call center IT work, moving the IT sweatshop racket from India onto Canadian soil. If you can afford to buy a business - I believe the total business investment was 500 000 pre-pandemic - that's another way in. Not sure if thats gone up now. So many of our franchise businesses are essentially being used as citizenship tickets. The big ticket item: If you can afford 4 years of postgraduate or undergrad university program, or 3 to 4 year college program - and if you don't have the cash, loan sharks in India will distribute debt across the whole family for decades so one student can go . There us a very good documentary by an Indian filmmaker on the Canadian college/University recruitment drive in India and its consequences. Several of our colleges have student enrollments at over 70% of the entire student body, direct entry from India. Additional problems like grade inflation, different education standards, and outright fraud on ESL testing also mean that Indian students are not well prepared for school here. Many do not have enough English to succeed in their studies. They either need to spend for additional tutoring, take a qualifying year or two ESL (on top of the 3 or 4 program), or fail courses. Universities and colleges keep the tuition though. Honestly our colleges and universities are staying afloat because of Indian students. They're being treated like cash cows - and Indian recruiters are scamming the system, taking fees on their end with unsuspecting students getting falsified documents, or being told they passed their ESL when they didn't. It's a national disgrace. I'm a prof here, I've seen all of this firsthand. Your data may be correct, but the narrative you've constructed for it is not the real picture.

Canada took me in when the US did not, and so I will definitely start businesses in Canada instead and create employment here. The system is set up correctly, but not enough housing is being built, cities expanded, or any coordination done to make sure people are settling in a more distributed manner. This needs to be fixed ASAP. The prices are becoming outrageous rivalling the US. Canada has always been so sparse, it's not prepared for this. It needs housing construction on war footing. I don't see the current government taking it seriously.

You'll need either rich parents, two unusally high powered incomes, or preferably both.\n\nMany Canadians are starting to leave for the US or places like Columbia or Cambodia as they feel their quality of life is much better. You also don't experience four months of winter in these places.

Lack of affordable housing -- lack of housing in general -- is the main reason people already living here are being priced out and why so many refugees and immigrants cannot afford the cost when they move here. When these people come to Canada for a better life and/or to escape the suffering that they were living in, they cannot bring their homes with them. It is the government's responsibility at all levels to ensure that these newcomers have a place to go when they come here. A homeless shelter should not be the answer. Buy up office spaces and convert them (if safe to do so with whatever codes need to be met) into affordable housing units. For years we've been seeing hundreds of news articles about vacancies in office buildings being at all time highs, yet only a handful of them are being converted. 500,000 people a year entering a country where there isn't enough housing for them (let alone the people living here already) is irresponsible on the government's part. If this is your pledge, at least give these people a better life and not send them to shelters or onto the streets as soon as they arrive. If Canada is to truly be a safe haven for immigrants and refugees escaping their hardships, it's paramount that the government does what it can to make these people actually feel like their life will change for the better. I'm all for immigration since it helps the economy and knowing that Canada can put people in a better position for themselves and their families, but it's the lack of preparation from the governments that makes me question their pledge in this way.
