Trudeau, you are putting Americans and Canadians through this because you don't want to see that Mr. Trump just wants fairness and for some reason you want tariff wars. That's the truth and you need to start speaking truth and quit misleading people with lies! That's why the democrats have been defeated because they are corrupt and they lie to the people.

Ah yes, the trade war that Canada will surely lose. I love Canada. Wouldn't trade it for the world, but this is a losing battle by which citizens on both sides will feel the full effect. Trump appeasing Putin is a chess move, that the PM seems to be overlooking. The US can't afford to go to war with Russia, but at the same time, it needs resources within Russia's neighboring region. So the US will do what they always do, and had people listened to what Kissinger had to say, they'd be better prepared for this. The reason for this 'trade war' is not about 'trade'. It's about 'creating chaos' so that president Trump is the 'centre' of world attention. You only 'give responsibility' to someone who has the wisdom and expertise and understanding in order to both 'hold' and 'govern' wisely and without fear or favor. Maybe its time for others in positions of authority in other institutions to step in and 'take control'. You would never let a child drive a super car on the highway so how much 'damage' has to happen before a world leader is not 'held to account' and his 'hands removed' from the steering wheel before there is a motor accident so large that the freeway is rendered unless and has to be totally shut down your. You cannot have total power in the hands of individuals who apparently do not possess the necessary skills knowledge and experience and wisdom that is required to fulfil the role they were elected to fulfil. A person with the mind and mentality of a child apparently is not a fit person to be running the economy of any nation. Canada and Mexico are not responsible for the people in the US who chose to use drugs. Let me explain the trading relationship briefly that occurs between Canada and the US for context. \n \nCanada Has a LOT of natural resources, more than our domestic manufacturing base needs (Uranium fuel, Lumber/paper products, Steel and other metals, Fertilizer for farms...etc). Therefore we sell those raw materials to the states where they are manufactured into goods, which we then buy back. a LOT of American service companies like tech, media (And yes, even banks)...etc also operates in Canada as well. (For the auto sector the parts flip back and forth across the border like 8 times) \n \nThis relationship alone has the American economy see a large trade surplus with Canada, however there is another element to it: Energy. \n \nCanada is also home to a LARGE amount of really cheap renewable hydro power in the east, and a LOT of oil in the west, due to a lack of infrastructure we really can only sell that oil to the states and therefore it is done at a discount. America refines this cheap oil into gas and is a large part of the reason why American gas is so cheap. They use this energy to power the same factories mentioned above. (Oh and also the NE states import a lot of that clean hydro electricity for the same reasons) \n \nThe US Buys SO MUCH of that cheap energy from us to power your industrial base, that it swings the numbers on the trade balance into a small deficit for the USA. (41 billion out of a TRILLION dollars total trade, or about -4.1% of total trade so literally a pretty small deficit) It also swing back and forth every year so \n \nThen comes Trump. He wants Canada as a 51st state and own the entire continent, therefore he manufactures an excurse that our border is leaky and that migrants and fentanyl are flowing over. (In actual case migrants and the flow of Fent is about 1% the amount that's crossing at the Mexico border but he needs an excuse) \n \nHe therefore puts 25% tariffs on us. Those tariffs will hit Canada harder than the 2008 financial crisis just for scale. \n \nOh and also for the most part American Refineries literally cant process any other oil than ours or Venezuela's because its thicker so tariffs on our oil will also really increase the priced of energy in the states by a huge amount just for the LOLs. As we've seen during the post covid recovery, since gas is priced in to the supply chain at every step (Manufacturing, transportation...etc), any increase at the pump will snowball into higher costs for everything at the store, on top of the extra cost of the tariffs on consumers. (Since every step will need to add it into their markup.)

The question that needs to be asked is what’s Trump’s moneymaking angle on imposing tariffs. Trump only does stuff where he personally can make money. Somebody or some group or entity is paying him somehow to impose tariffs on America’s main trading partner and ally. That’s the only way this makes any sense.

Canada and Mexico need to find other trade partners and have stronger relationships with other countries and start trading with each other stop relying on America for everything just because they are closer start trading with Denmark . Stop selling gas to the USA on a discount make them pay higher prices.

I’ve read many comments urging Canada to reduce its exposure to the us. It’s reasonable but that doesn’t happen overnight. Refineries, for example, are custom built - they can’t process all crudes. They’d cost several billion to build and at least 3-5 years; plus, you need railways and port infrastructure to ship out oil or its byproducts. This should have been started in 2017 (trump’s 1st term). In the short term, free trade zones within Canada and Mexico may alleviate some of the tariffs.

This will destroy Canada. Trump will cut off all trade, and the Canadian economy will collapse. There is nothing the USA needs from Canada.Add that with cutting off aid, Canada will fall into a deep depression... So as a American ,this makes me very happy

Dont blame Trump for all this. Blame President Lincoln, Wilson, Taft for creating taxes. Roosevelt for enacting a bill into law for charging taxes to the American people for social security, Reagan for shutting down factories in US & leaving US to foreign Countries for cheaper cost. Bush, Obama, Biden for bad foreign trading policies & bad spending usage, budgeting of our tax payers money that put US in dept by the trillions. These past Presidents were running our Country into the ground at our expense. President Trump is getting back our Country out of Debt. Alot of reforms needs to happen. Decrease taxes on everything, make startup business easy to survive & sustain. Enact bills into laws to control all Corporations from overpricing their goods to consumers. Lower all consumer goods. Give tax breaks to all business. Taxes should come from other Countries & zero from the American peoples pockets, end to taxing the American people. ✊️

Canada needs to get all new trading partners, they need to look to Europe, Asia, and other countries. There are other markets out there, especially in the EU, where they are no longer getting energy from Russia. If Canada shows any weakness Trump will hit Canada even harder, the only why Canada stays strong and comes out ahead, is to be strong. Canada will suffer for a while, but with new trade partners, Canada will be much better off.

Good, now we need to stop sending every country foriegn aid. We hired President Donald Trump to do these things. This will hurt Mexico and Canada far more than it will the United States. It is very hypocritical for other country's that already have tariffs on American made products to say that it is wrong for the United States to tariff their products. We do not care that it will crush your economies because we are done with propping up your economy at the expense of American workers and jobs. It is absolutely amazing that fair trading has practices are scaring your country's.

We’ll soon find out if convicted felon Trump and his supporters need Canada when that electricity gets turned off. If Trump can rip our mutually-negotiated agreements so can Canada. We did not ask for this economic war nor did we start it. The American coal exported through Roberts Bank does not even pay a provincial carbon tax like all BC residents pay. Canada is the second-largest country in the world by land area and we have the longest coastline in the world, with over 243,000 kilometers of shoreline. They all need and want our lumber, minerals, oil and gas, grass fed beef, and the dependable, respectful trading partner that we are.

Canadian here. The tariffs will hurt. And this may just be the beginning of a sprawling trade war, but make no mistake, Canada is not for sale, and Canada, despite its soft spoken nature, is determined to keep going on its own way. We have free trade with the EU and Pacific nations. For any US companies who find themselves caught up in tariffs for their export markets, consider setting up your export shop here, to keep your Canadian customers, and continue to have access to European and Asian markets under free trade agreements that are respected, and operate independently of any decision made by President Trump. Businesses need predictability and stability, and your neighbors to the north can provide that to all of your export markets.

The invoked reasons to impose tariffs on Canadian goods are BS. Trump needed a reason to use the emergency act. This is just a smoke screen in order to open up a new trade agreement ahead of schedule. If he keeps this up, the whole world will turn against him and the US.

Trump's constant threat of tariffs only instills in our trading partner that they need to find someone new to trade with. Americans hear the word tariff out of Trump's mouth and they say yes, yes and they should be saying NO, NO. America is just not a reliable alli.

The only reason they pushed back now is on human indignity. This is the first they received a flight with their civilians cuffed up like animals. The Colombian president said that is not how you treat humans, at least not my people, send them back in a civilised way where they are not dehumanised and we’ll take them. He even sent his own planes later and took them back.\nA sane leader would order his team to review the process and advise them of appropriate measures going forward. I got a message for President Gustavo Pedro: Your Country is beautiful so your people, your Country is a paradise, I would listen to MR President Trump and get along with him. If you send your Presidential Plane for accommodating your people you're welcome, but you're not in the position to jeopardize your fragile economy for any reason whatsoever, peace, diplomatic relationship and trade and what you need the most as the entire world including us in America.
