Trudeau was being way too generous when he said Chump was smart. It’s evident that he’s not since he started the trade wars.

Starting this trade war is not only the craziest political decision I have seen in my entire life, it destroys the relationship between the US and its closest allies on purpose. A relation that has been built over decades. People and businesses on both sides of the pond will suffer badly from this idiotic agenda for no real reason. The USA is now officially at trade war with the free world.

Trump gave earlier the real reason why he started this trade war: he wants Canada to become the 51st state of the USA. He also wants Greenland so he can secure the Northern passage.\nCanada is a country of the British Commonwealth, and it is interesting that Trudeau met with King Charles last week. Oddly enough, the British Prime Minister dodged questions from White House reporters on this topic.\nNow about the G7 forthcoming summit: Trump is a convicted felon and may not attend without the permission of the host country, which this year happens to be Canada!

Why do they say America started a trade war when they should be saying Trump started a trade war.

To my mind, Trump would have started the trade war with Canada no matter what measures Canada undertakes. My guess is the underlying motive behind the whole theatre is to somehow pressurize Canada into complete submission. Remember his comments about Canada should become the 51st state? I presume that in reality his eyes are set on Canada‘s vast resources and the potential north-west passage which would be a fantastic gift to his master Putin.

I don't like Trudeau, but this speech was great. Intelligent when he needed to be, simple when addressing Trump. A strong start to this trade war which as he said, we don't want. I hope along with Ford we hit America where it hurts. Maybe when their groceries skyrocket in price and their trucks are gone they'll really see where their votes went.\n\nI personally can attest I'm no longer buying DOOM: The Dark Ages, or games on Steam for that matter. I never thought I would be more supportive of a government imposing tariffs on us than my own government, but hey Trump aligning the US with Putin and starting unnecessary and harmful trade wars with our allies is moronic and treasonous. The GOP used to be the party of free trade. That was literally their main plank for 40 years, and an idiot comes along who doesn't understand basic facts, such as how tariffs work, imposes them willynilly and vindictively, and the spine-challenged Congress rolls over without so much as a whimper. Is it possible that this is all about access to critical minerals - which Canada and Ukraine hav in abundance. America has form in creating a pretence to go to war to protect access to cheap oil. But in the past these wars were against arab nations and so the West found it easy to 'other' and accept the need for war. Now America under Trump is hoping to secure critical minerals (modern day oil) - but because they are allies he cant start an outright war. So hes doing it through trade. This is old form for America. When looked through this lense is not so difficult to understand. The big question is will the west allow him to bully western allies - democracies to be bullied into submission?

After a couple of years Trump and co will say, that Canada started a trade war against US. Just like they say, that Ukraine and Zelenskyy started the war with Russia. And now some uf US commentators are saying the same. It’s crazy. And there will be no way to get him to remember the facts. He and all who work for him are liars and half truth tellers. It HAS happened before. During Trump's first term, he started a trade war with Canada that lasted a year, IIRC.

When you ALREADY have tariffs in place against the US you cannot claim Trump is starting a trade war. You started it. Now we have a POTUS with the sand to stand up for us not the world. Start checking Canadian ports. The border is just a part of it. Maybe if they up the staff at Canadian ports we can get somewhere with this trade war.
