Make your tariffs hurt, Canada. No safe word. We did this to ourselves.

I support the USA. The tariffs will hurt Canada and Mexico far more than the USA. In 2023 - 76% of Canada's exports were shipped to the US. That is 19% of their total GDP. Mexico exported 78% of its exports to the US, which is 37% of its GDP. US exports to Canada & Mexico combined were only 2.7%. Both countries will need to find other buyers or capitulate. No wonder Trudeau is screaming like a stray dog hit by a rock.

Your hurting your people more than you think. You can’t afford to put tariffs on your people. Canada will be the 51st state. God speed.

I have no idea if Prime Minister Trudeau reads any of these comments or if his team does, but as an American, I am ashamed of our current government. We have a narcissist for a leader who is a bad businessman and a puppet of Putin. How refreshing to see a real LEADER who actually cares about his country and not himself. Being an American I am behind Canada and feel these Tariffs are uncalled for and will do nothing to help our ever growing Inflation! No matter who pays the tariffs and who it hurts, the end result is that billions will be paid into the government coffers of both USA and Canada. Of course Trump & Musk want to use that to benefit billionaire oligarchs, but what will Canada do with the new income? Canada has the winning hand. Canada has resources that USA needs to survive. USA has nothing to offer to Canada to survive. If Canada should cut energy to USA, let’s see who is the boss. For say, Canada is the biggest producer for potash, a fertilizer needed for the American fields. Canada will suffer from these tariffs but USA will cash down harder. My husband is a retired Airborne Ranger who worked cooperatively with military personnel from the UK, Canada, Germany, France, and other democratic countries around the world. For anyone who is curious about how our politics make everything worse for us federally, let me explain it in a short time.\n\nTrudeau as of the day of this video, March 3, 2025, is STILL the PM. He said he WOULD resign once a new leader was picked through a democratic process. Right now, he's basically just doing photo ops in Ukraine, UK and anywhere else on our dime because Parliament is prorogued and the party in power, Liberal, is having a leadership race. So, while he may resign within the week once that leadership race is done, he's still technically in charge.\n\nWhat makes that race and the PM's prorogation so bad is that we're in the middle of a crisis - several actually - caused in part directly by Trudeau and his Liberals (and the NDP supporting them). The latest would be Trump's tariffs starting today, March 4, 2025. Retaliation tariffs. That's a ridiculous idea. You don't win a tariff war when you're the country that has a trade surplus. In 2023, Canada imported approximately $431.2 billion worth of goods from the United States, while the United States imported approximately $354.3 billion worth of goods from Canada. That's going to hurt Canada a whole lot more than it'll hurt us.

Canada should not respond with tariffs. That will just increase prices for Canadians. They should look for other markets.\nTrump promised to lower prices. This is a direct move to increase them! The reality of the situation is that while Canada’s retaliatory tariffs will hurt the US a little, Trump’s tariffs hurt Canada a lot! Right now we’re in a moment where Canadian politicians of all stripes need to placate the public’s demand for retaliation, however no matter who the next PM is, they will quickly and quietly be working to undo whatever factors led to this situation. That will mean acquiescing to Trump’s border demands among other concessions. One would be forgiven for thinking Trudeau should have just gone along with them in the first place and spared Canada the pain.

Good, now we need to stop sending every country foriegn aid. We hired President Donald Trump to do these things. This will hurt Mexico and Canada far more than it will the United States. It is very hypocritical for other country's that already have tariffs on American made products to say that it is wrong for the United States to tariff their products. We do not care that it will crush your economies because we are done with propping up your economy at the expense of American workers and jobs. Mexico and Canada imposing tariffs on the US is not going to hurt us like they think. We have more ships and planes and are able to move more goods faster to other countries who will buy. Not to mention the fact that Mexico and Canada were never fair to us in trading. In the end they will have hurt themselves way more then the US. Canadian here. The tariffs will hurt. And this may just be the beginning of a sprawling trade war, but make no mistake, Canada is not for sale, and Canada, despite its soft spoken nature, is determined to keep going on its own way. We have free trade with the EU and Pacific nations. For any US companies who find themselves caught up in tariffs for their export markets, consider setting up your export shop here, to keep your Canadian customers, and continue to have access to European and Asian markets under free trade agreements that are respected, and operate independently of any decision made by President Trump. Businesses need predictability and stability, and your neighbors to the north can provide that to all of your export markets.

USA will be hurt by Canadian tariffs, but given its smaller economy, in four years, Canada will be economically destroyed by US tariffs. When did the readership of cnn get so frikking stupid. The US is the biggest consumer country in the world. Tariffs will only hurt Americans, all of your costs will go up. You pay tariffs, we don’t. For Columbia, your coffee, tropical fruit like bananas, flowers are going up. For Canada, your gas prices, housing costs. Mexico, fruits and vegetables….basically your inflation is going to sky rocket.
