Look, I don't like Trudeau, especially as a Canadian, but that border arrangement was in place in December of last year. I have been telling people they were going across from here for the last 3 years, and nobody seemed to care. The only thing new is appointing a 'border czar'. As a US citizen, I am sad for both Canada and the US. We were great allies, and now that is gone. I wanted to move to Nova Scotia and start a new life doing my art and be a part of a culture I love. This is why it is so important to participate in the election process! If someone paid $10k for a birth, they probably had complications during the birth or the baby needed medical care, was premature etc. Not that they have crappy insurance. In Canada it costs NOTHING to give birth, or have complications, or have your baby in neonatal intensive care for months. $3000 to give birth is crazy. Who can afford that, along with time off and a new baby?
