After a couple of years Trump and co will say, that Canada started a trade war against US. Just like they say, that Ukraine and Zelenskyy started the war with Russia. And now some uf US commentators are saying the same. It’s crazy. And there will be no way to get him to remember the facts. He and all who work for him are liars and half truth tellers. I’m not sure how to deal with this. But it is VERY important for all media outlets to keep reminding the facts. Just tell what happens, so there is a record. I think that could help in the end.\nSo here are my 5p:\nUS started trade war against Canada with 25% tariffs.\nRussia annexed Crimean peninsula and attacked Ukraine in 2022. This is the truth, no two ways about these facts.\nTrump and Vance are liars.

We have US tariffs war, but so far they 3 countries to fight with. How dumb is it ?.

Mr Trudeau, if you go on a trade war with the US you’re definitely gonna get it and lose. All you have to do is lower the tariffs you’re imposing on American goods so Trump won’t impose the same tariffs on you.

I am a Canadian, and i don't like the tariffs, but our government taxes us too much, and are taking our hard earned dollars, funding wars, and and giving it away to refugees and welfare recipients

Canada (and many other countries) spent decades supporting the maintenance of US hegemony. Look what it got us? To a position where we're pretty much greatly dependent on, and at the mercy of the US. We need to invest more in our own country and make our own products. We should also trade with other countries regardless of what the US thinks of those countries. Trump wants Canada to put tariffs on China in the attempt to further impede that country's economic growth so the US will remain the economic hegemony. Never mind that a trade war with China would put Canada in an even worse position. Given the current events, I say we trade with China even more!

Absolutely it's not a trade war and don't try to incite blind nationalism. The tariff to be imposed on Canada by US clearly is a demand/indication forcing Canada to look into then curb the drug problem, which has already destroyed Canada and endangered the national security of US. Wake up and act sensibly before it's too late to save Canada.

This proves you can not believe what career politicians say and have to go by what they do, or don’t do, instead. Yet now, they confidently declare that Canada will never become the 51st state. This should raise eyebrows. \n\n Almost all of the MPs and Premiers are unanimous in entering into a trade war we can not win. After tariffs go ballistic, our dollar drops to .35 cents, and we get utterly crushed, I can see them say, “in order to save what’s left of our economy and society we must reluctantly join the U.S. or face certain destruction”. \n\n Not only would the decades old goal of a North American Union be accomplished, but we would take a large step towards the video statement that the World Economic Forum - WEF posted on their website. “By 2030, you will own nothing and be happy”. \n\n The WEF is working with the UN to achieve their Agenda 2030 goals and is what Pierre Poilievre and the “Conservatives” signed Canada onto Sept. 27, 2015. When you ALREADY have tariffs in place against the US you cannot claim Trump is starting a trade war. You started it. Now we have a POTUS with the sand to stand up for us not the world. Republicans understand that things will get tough. Liberals are already snow flakes that were in a melt down from the day Trump took office. We voted them out. I don't think Canadians are going to tolerate much for long unless you open the Treasury and give them money thereby bankrupting them. Drop your tariffs and Trump will drop yours. Is a win win.

Picking a trade war with Canada, Mexico, China and major economics is a very bad idea. It will not bring anybody to the negotiation table to get a better deal. It will drive them away from US partnership and they form alliances, new trade routes and partnerships, de-dollarization, etc. Just think why does a country needs USD when they cannot trade with US. BRICS have overtaken G7 in the overall GDP. So, In the end, US will be left alone with limited trading partners. US people will need to pay for tax + tariffs which will put them in a downward spiral.

He makes me proud to be Canadian, and make no mistake, trump won’t win this war…it’s not just us, the EU just announced €800 billion in retaliatory tariffs. Mexico is also hitting back hard..the only winner of this trade war is the super wealthy, but that won’t last, when we all refuse to buy any of the products that benefit them. The best way to hurt the rich, is by turning them into poor people!

Americans obviously didn’t understand what tariffs are, didn’t get that it’s an import tax which they must pay on goods and products they buy from Canada, a tax which tRump collects from Americans and uses to pay for tax-cuts for the richest citizens. But one more thing Americans don’t get is that before this fateful day an unofficial boycott against ALL US goods has been growing since tRump insulted Canada’s Prime Minister and threatened Canada’s sovereignty—whereas Canada’s official countervails ( which only kicked-in today )only target certain US goods, not ALL of them like ordinary Canadians are doing in growing numbers right now—in fact, the imposition of tRump’s tariffs today has only made the unofficial boycott bigger and more organized. Let's see, make peace at reasonable cost with a man who's war with Ukraine showed the world that they cannot last in war with US on a military vs military bases; and the only option against the US is a nuclear, while Zelenskyy want's to use US as a deterrent against Putin, all while asking the US for billions. On the other hand, Canada, Mexico and Panama are being over ran by chinese businesses. People think this is against Canadians, Mexicans and Panamanians, but these tariffs are against chinese who are manufacturing in these countries and bypassing tariffs already in place by the US. The chinese are manufacturing in Canada and Mexico and placing (made in Canada/Mexico) and shipping those items to the US, while Canada and Mexico do nothing.

Russia matters. Canada doesn't. We tariff them They tariff us. Trade war. Canada doen't want a trade war because they know they'll lose.

So I guess it is only a trade war when the US demands reciprocal tariffs? It seems like injustice to be put on an even playing field when you have not been being held to the same standards. Canada, Mexico and most other countries have had tariffs on the goods they send to the US for decades; why all of the complaints now? Isn’t it fair that the US charge tariffs if Canada and Mexico charge tariffs? Yes, it is. What the hell is Trudeau even flapping his gums about? Perhaps all aid should be taken from Canada and Mexico for being ungrateful. You ever heard of the North American Union? It’s a thing. Look it up. You will probably have the Amero in your wallet before long.

I do not want a trade war with anyone, but if you’re already doing tariffs on the US. Then we need to return the favor. I personally like Canada but if you play fair, so will we.

As an American and a Trump supporter, I agree with these tariffs, but only equal to the tariffs other countries charge the United States on our imports. I do not agree with imposing this on our brothers and sisters to the north. I’m speaking of the good people of Canada. I have traveled to Canada and crossing the border was just like crossing into another state. Yes, there was a border gate which there should be, but I had absolutely no problem whatsoever. I hope our government can work this out very quickly and stop this foolishness. But to countries like China and Europe the United States should charge a reciprocal tariff as to what you charge us on our import. It’s only fair. Why are we paying an exuberant tariff for our goods entering your country and you expect to pay nothing with your goods entering ours. Most Americans, love Canada and love our Canadian brothers and sisters, we’ve always supported each other in world, wars, and other attacks against our respective countries. I pray this is resolved quickly, and then we can once again live United and in harmony.

Every single country has huge tariffs against our country. All Trump wants is for them to pay us the same we pay them. Why any taxpayer would be upset is against it is beyond me. Trump is NOT starting a trade war. He is equalizing the playing field. Canada was already imposing a 25% tariff on the US unfairly. Now they are charging 50% tariffs. Not fair at all!

The US relies on several countries for goods. Trump put tariffs on multiple counties. None of the other countries have tariffs on each other. So, who is going to be the loser in the tariff war?

Trump has sold the lie that tariffs will pay for many great things. 1-It's a direct-to-consumer tax. 2-History has proven that tariff wars are bad for all concerned. P.S. Warren Buffet recently said that if all US corporations paid taxed like his companies do, We'd have no need for income taxes. Trump works from the other end of the tunnel that Ideally no taxes for corporations, and the wealth will trickle down and bless us all.

trump is costing farmer their markets. The US had to shell out some 32 billion as a result of his screw ups in his first term with his trade war with China. Canada been mooching off the usa for decades! Maybe Canada should volunteer to drop all the tariffs they have on us if they want to be friends. Funny how Canada has had tariffs on US goods for decades but the moment USA institute tariffs were in a trade war??

I voted for Trump, but it's hard not to agree with Trudeau on this even though I find this guy to be extremely unpleasant. There's no reason to start trade wars all over the world and in particular with our neighbors. It's one thing to threaten tariffs and a very different thing to actually apply them. If you do it has to be accompanied by a lot of diplomacy so that the other country is not overreacting, but Trump has been super combative prompting our neighbors to respond in kind to save face. While past deals may not have been great for US, this is not the way to handle our differences. Billionaires like Trump and his friends will be fine, but the majority of ordinary folks in the US and Canada will suffer. Very dumb, indeed.

Even before now less than 1% of fentanyl came across the Canadian border. Canada has had a trade imbalance with us in our favor. Canada last year had already agreed to beef up border security by $1.3 billion. Canadian troops have fought alongside US troops in several wars. As recently as a few weeks ago Canadian firefighters were helping put out fires in the US. Dumbest tariffs doesn't begin to describe it.

We in the EU should stand by Canada and offer whatever support is necessary, including financial grants if needed. We should also match Canada by imposing our own 25% tariffs on the same goods and services, acting as a force multiplier.
