Now Mexico is also going to respond. You want to get along with your neighbors not fight with them.
2025-03-04 0
Canada will have to respond more forcefully, as the US seeks to gain the upper hand in negotiations by hitting its biggest trading partners (Canada and China) first and then threatening other fraternal countries (smaller trading partners).

I find it particularly effective that Canada is focusing on red state America. Kentucky alcohol is just one example. Prime Minister Trudeau is also targeting those issues that they can most effectively respond, like electricity in the norther tier, LNG (shifting to EU). Trump is screwing over our closest and greatest allies, in deference to Putin, a war criminal.

The gaslighting the world is displaying is unbelievable. The moment America starts to look out for itself, like a toxic partner or lover, the world is responding by making us look like the problem. Not the people who have taken advantage of us. We have been the world's savior for 100 years, where is the gratitude? We aren't just going to shutter our doors to the world, we are rebuilding our country from the last corrupt administration. We love our allies, we just want to help our American people first for a change! Your countries all look out for yourselves, we are doing the same for a while. We aren't your enemies, don't treat us as such just for taking care of ourselves.

Can we have the Canadian President instead of ours? Both Canada and Mexico responds to the requests and demonstrate they are trying to be our allies and for some reason we still proceed into a trade war. I think there's an aspect of the tariffs where it's a tax that's not called a tax, where there will be reductions in taxes for the wealthy and then these tariffs are added taxes for the general population.

I am American independent voter who vote against Treasonous Trump this past election of 2024 in favor of Kamala Harris. While many of my fellow Americans voted for Trump many others like me did not. Now so many good and event Americans are going to suffer because of many Maga or Maga supporting Americans who foolishly chose to support Trump and his lies. Any pain and suffering Anti Trump supporting Americans, along international American Allies and theuir people, suffer will be squarely on the shoulders of Maga and Maga supporting Americans.\n\nHow Trumps first term wasn’t a wake up call and eye opener to how terrible he was and is as president is beyond me. He, treasonous Trump, did nothing to help our economy which essentially stalled or went into generally neutral state with essentially no growth positively or negatively, followed by a near complete nose dive due to Treasonous Trump’s poor handling and equally poor response to the Covid-!9 Pandemic. How people could seemed to forget that Treasonous Trump, not Joe Biden, was responsible for the current sate of things following the pandemic is beyond me. \n\nMaga and Maga supporting Americans have been conned again by Treasonous Trump, who not only failed to properly respond to the Covid pandemic but also incited and or encouraged many of Maga supporters to essentially attack the US Capitol in hopes of stopping Joe Biden’s Presidential Certification. Those in the Inter national world are not alone in their condemnation of the disgrace and embarrassment that sis current US President Trump. True Americans who believe in our constitution and rule of law as decreed by the founding fathers of our nation must unfortunately bare part of the shame Maga America has brought upon our country as a whole.Truly good and decent Americans must bare the shame of now living in a country that much International world now no longer trusts and has lost respect for. For all the hateful Maga thinking and or supporting Americans there are as many truly good non maga Americans who want more peaceful relations with allies in the international world. Sadly because of Trump and his hate many must now unjustly suffer .

Canada responded with positive processes and donald still applied tariffs. This shows his motivation and his truth.
2025-03-04 0
So ashamed of the USA. Do you everything you need to do Canada! Fight! Fight! Fight! That’s the only things bullies ever respond to.
2025-03-04 0
I am American and this is how you respond. Not like we saw with Trump and Vance with Zelensky. The US know we have a lunatic in office and hoping congress stands up and stop him all his illegal activity.
2025-03-04 0
I never liked Trudeau until now, his response to the American threat has been incredible and I just hope whoever ends up PM next does as good a job as him at responding to Trumpler and Adolf Musk.

Trump is a NARCISSISTIC egotistical bully, liar, racist, sexist, uneducated moron. He is a friend of Russia, interested only in boosting his own sense of importance and greed. Here in the UK he is universally DETESTED. I hope the whole world responds in the same way as Canada.
2025-03-04 0
Paula Newton is a tory shill - you don't have to kiss Trudeau's feet to recognize he's responding to US aggression exactly as Canadians want him to

Wesley Clark is a tool. \n\nHe knows very well that the US cannot get in a shooting with Russia. Not only due to the possibility of a nuclear exchange, but a shooting conflict with Russia is a golden opportunity for China to take Taiwan and for a full scale war to break out in the Middle East. Not only between Iran and Israel, Egypt has been building up forces near Israel as well. \n\nThe US can’t fight and win a 3 theatre war. Aka WWIII. \n\nEveryone knows these tariffs are about the USMCA, in addition to drugs and aliens. This could have been averted. They know it. They’d rather let their people suffer than give up a favorable trade imbalance for a slightly less favorable trade imbalance. \n\nBut for Trudeau to invoke appeasement knowing the real stakes. And knowing that the only thing preventing hostilities breaking out elsewhere in the world is the US having freedom of action to respond, is shameful. \n\nAnd Wesley Clark, along with the rest of the neocon geopolitical apparatus, being willing to flirt with WWIII because Trump is pulling the plug on their imperial project in Ukraine.. downright traitorous.

Please don't poke the idiot toddler who has somehow found a way to run this country. We don't want him. And he is exactly that- a spoiled child who will respond without forethought, to show he is 'bigger'. We don't want a war.

Brilliant speak from the Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, absolutely brilliant. tRUMP will respond in his usual fashion...child like speaking ignorant and full of lies and praise for himself just watch. Is this what republicans voted for, trade wars with what were once strong allies, stripping Federal Departments that ensured well being for needed services. tRUMP and his administration this is a nightmare for not just the United States but the world.

just wait to see what will happen in Mexico The president of Mexico will also respond with tariffs on the exports that the US makes to Mexico. Thousands of people are expected to gather in the main square of Mexico City. this weekend as support for people from Canada, and the United States who are affected by these tariffs.

As an American citizen I’m saddened by Trumps B ignorance and diatribes I stand with Canada and the EU and any other countries who respond in kind. Trumps the Destroyer in Chief turning his back on Ukraine embracing Outin his hero, It disgusts me and makes me sick, Trump should be in jail and the Supreme Court empowers his injustices and is complicit, prices go higher Everything is Higher Day One has come and Gone.
2025-03-04 0
As a Canadian I’m still not clear on how counter tariffs help Canadians? Won’t this just make things more expensive for us? Shouldn’t we just realign our allies for imports/exports? Can someone help me out here? Don’t tell me it’s just because we need to respond in kind so not to be ‘bullied’. You’ll need to do better than that. Seems like only governments win in tariff wars - not their citizens.
2025-03-04 0
Well said, Prime Minister. They are power-mad lunatics and don't care what anyone else says, but the world cares, and Canada has responded beautifully. America will pay the price and Putin will reap the rewards.
2025-03-04 0
The US seems hell bent on destroying itself. So many people are going to lose their jobs as the US economy goes into freefall. If Trump imposes higher tariffs on Europe too, we'll respond in exactly the same way as Canada.
2025-03-04 1
As someone from the Netherlands, I wish our former prime minister and current NATO leader Rutte responded in a similar way to Trudeau. He was always a true politicians' politician, but the way he stood with the US right after the horrible treatment of Zelensky was a new low. If the majority of US allies responded in a firm manner the way Trudeau just did, it might be enough to scare some Republicans into doing the right thing.
2025-03-04 0
I can respect the flattery because that is all trump responds to... But he is FARRRRRRRR from a very smart guy. He is one of the dumbest people I have ever seen on the national and global stage
2025-03-04 0
Trump will respond by saying ?? I won the election by a lot
2025-03-04 0
It's great that the fentanyl problem is being attacked at the border. What about Canada inside the borders? Why did it take Trump to impose tariffs for Canada to respond to the drug problem? And what about dealing with China? Most of the chemical compounds have been brought in from there...thousands of kids have died and Canada has not addressed China's conspiracy with this. Congrats to Trump for his tough line on this!!
2025-03-04 0
I wonder why any nation would not equally respond. Trump pretty much declared economic warfare on all nations with putting tariffs on everyone. If all of them choose to put counter tariffs on the US, i doubt the US will be able to weather such storm without a scratch.
2025-03-04 0
As an American, I really liked Trudeau's speech. I thought he did a great job explaining everything and responding to this situation. I appreciate his words to the American people. There's just one thing he said that was inaccurate... trump is NOT a smart guy!!
2025-03-04 0
Why only respond with 30B tariffs and wait 21days for the other 125B?? Weak government
2025-03-04 0
It's not war, it's business. FAIR TRADE no matter who gives/takes. Americans responded with electing Trump. Trudeau shouldn't make it personal. ??‍?
2025-03-04 0
Now EU is apparently also preparing tariffs against the US as well to respond to Trump's tariffs. Life is gonna be great... lol
2025-03-04 0
Trump actually responded disrespectfully calling him Governor...discusting, what trash he is
2025-03-04 0
Who are our Dem politicians who will organize the ppl to respond??? Are they scared? This is crazy that all this is happening while the Dem response has been lukewarm. The ppl will show up. We need dates, places and times.

If tariffs are bad for the consumer of the country that implements them, why would Canada respond with tariffs?
2025-03-04 0
Respect from Australia, this is exactly what Canada should do, stand up to this bully. I don't think you should bother trying to negotiate with him, Trump is a liar and a fool and talking to him is a waste of time, he's too stupid to understand. When the US slaps you, slap them back. I sincerely hope to see Mexico respond in the same way, slap Trump back twice as hard.\n\nIf the US wants to go kissing Putins ass, go on, but don't try to force the rest of us to kiss his ass with you.\nIf the US wants to find savings in government #DefundElonMusk a filthy rich man receiving government aid, he's sucked up $38 billion, that's government waste in the extreme.

Mr.Trudeau is a real inteligent person who remains very calm in such difficult conditions caused by Donald Trump ‼️\nI appreciate and admire Mr Trudeau how he responded to his friend neighbour Donald Trump ‼️\n God bless Canada and his Prime Minister Trudeau with best wishes from Germany ‼️??????✌️??

Who would like to wage a bet?? Trump responds with lies and immaturity!!!

Canada’s Retaliation Against the Smoot-Hawley Tariff (1930)\nOne of the most immediate and severe retaliatory responses to the Smoot-Hawley Tariff came from Canada, which was heavily dependent on trade with the United States. Canada was the largest export market for U.S. goods at the time, and when the U.S. imposed high tariffs on Canadian imports, Canada responded with its own punitive tariffs on American products.\n\nBackground: U.S.-Canada Trade Before Smoot-Hawley\nIn 1929, about 75% of Canadian exports went to the U.S.\nCanada was also a major supplier of lumber, wheat, cattle, and minerals to American markets.\nThe two economies were deeply intertwined, and Canada had traditionally followed a low-tariff trade policy with the U.S.\nCanada’s Response: Retaliatory Tariffs (1930)\nPrime Minister R.B. Bennett responded to Smoot-Hawley by raising tariffs on American goods, specifically targeting products from the U.S. Midwest and industrial centers.\nCanada increased tariffs on over 16 U.S. goods, including:\nFarm machinery\nAutomobiles\nFruits and vegetables\nTextiles\nThese tariffs redirected Canadian trade away from the U.S. and toward Britain and other Commonwealth nations, under a new imperial preference system.\nEconomic Consequences\nFor the United States:\n❌ Sharp decline in U.S. exports to Canada\n\nU.S. exports to Canada dropped by 55% between 1929 and 1932.\nAmerican automobile and farm equipment industries suffered severe losses.\nMany Midwest farmers, who had relied on Canadian sales, went bankrupt.\n❌ Loss of a major trading partner\n\nCanada sought alternative suppliers in Britain, Australia, and other Commonwealth nations.\nThis permanently weakened U.S.-Canada economic ties, forcing the U.S. to reconsider its trade policies.\nFor Canada:\n✅ Diversification of Trade\n\nCanada strengthened trade ties with Britain and other Commonwealth countries.\nCanadian exports to Britain increased, helping Canada avoid complete economic collapse.\n❌ Short-term economic pain\n\nWhile Canada successfully retaliated, the tariffs raised prices for Canadian consumers.\nThe Canadian economy still suffered from the global depression, but it recovered faster than the U.S. by diversifying trade.\nLong-Term Impact\nPermanent Shift in Canadian Trade Policy\n\nCanada moved away from dependence on the U.S. and pursued closer economic ties with Britain.\nThis weakened U.S. economic influence in Canada for decades.\nRepeal of Smoot-Hawley and the Start of U.S. Trade Liberalization\n\nThe failure of Smoot-Hawley contributed to the Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act (1934) under Franklin D. Roosevelt, which lowered tariffs and encouraged bilateral trade deals.\nU.S.-Canada trade eventually recovered, but the economic damage lasted for years.\nConclusion\nThe U.S. intended to protect its industries, but Smoot-Hawley backfired by provoking Canada’s retaliation. This case study highlights how tariffs can damage relationships with key trading partners, disrupt industries, and reduce exports, ultimately harming the economy.

That Paula Newton lady is framing this like this is Canada's fault, not that the US started this whole situation. Canada is only responding to getting punched in the face by saying they won't let themselves continue to get punched, which is 100% reasonable. Sorry both Americans and Canadians will have to deal with this insanity and the rest of the world will have to deal with the ramifications of Trump's destructive policy.
2025-03-04 0
Our PM is strong and true leader, Canada responded very diplomatically, while protecting Canadians and in effort to help American business, farmers and people.
2025-03-04 0
You're too late, Trudeau. You should have responded back in November. When Trump mentioned it, but you decided to go hiding.\nNow it's your fault.Nobody else to blame but you\nAs a canadian, I am totally disgusted with your response to this!!
2025-03-04 0
President Trump should not rule out nuclear options to respond to this nonsense. Lets see what Canada can do then.
2025-03-04 0
The problem with this message getting through to felon Trump's voters is it's five or six grade levels above what they typically respond to. Trump will justvgrunt and sniff at them a few times, spew a few lies, and they'll buy it.
2025-03-04 0
Threats threats threats from all these foreigners threats we do respond to threats in the United States y'all need to know that
2025-03-04 0
In a sense I know why (optics), but in another sense, I don’t. Why do so many insist on retaliating against Trump’s tariffs with more or higher tariffs of their own? I think it’d be so much more effective if someone said, “You know, we’ve thought about this, and we have come to realize that tariffs are really bad. So starting tomorrow, we will respond by getting rid of all our tariffs. This will make everything we import more affordable. It will make us richer. We hope other countries will join us! If America insists on making everything they import more expensive, lowering their standard of living, that’s their prerogative and problem!”

As a Canadian.... screw this clown. Trudeau is a useless lame duck. He has announced his resignation and has no mandate whatsoever to represent us. You call a man names for 8 years, and there are going to be consequences you fool. Of course this isn't about fentanyl. You've prodded a bully and now that bully is responding like bullies do. \nA Canadian election can't possibly come soon enough.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gives a master class on how to respond to a malignant narcissist.
2025-03-04 0
LMAO Canada had tarriffs on the US and now we respond with reciprocal tarriffs and they cry. and they have an open border allowing criminals and drugs to enter the us...lmao cry babies. we dont need Canada, and btw no more money for you buddy. your gonna miss that 200 billion subsidy .
2025-03-04 0
Justin, you are wasting your valuable breath.Trumpovitch won't understand a single word until Russia tells him what you mean - and how he is expected to respond. Make Russia Great Again !!
2025-03-04 0
This is how a state men respond. With intelligence and integrity ??????
2025-03-04 0
This is propoganda, misleading and embarrasing. Canada started the Tariffs, USA just responded with a Reciprocal Tariff Act. Trudeau can kiss diplomacy goodbye, Russia, Russia, Russia. Does switzerland get called names for remaining neutral, they have the highest levels of happiness on the planet...

Since I cannot trust anything our president says, let's connect some dots. \n\nIt appears this is a war about resources: Canada has, oil, rare earth minerals, and lithium. If the U. S. Can bring Canada to its knees through economic means rather than force, it's still War. \n\nI'm hoping Canada finds other markets for its products and basically says fu to the U. S. Exports markets to Europe duty free. I hope Europe responds to Canada in a positive way, which I'm sure they will.
