As a Canadian the American system isn't broken. We have so many immigrants coming in from India and Nigeria you can have them. Not only are they disrespectful, but greedy and have no problem throwing trash directly on the ground. They also contribute to wage suppression meaning that they are willing to work for a lower rate of pay. Many Canadian companies will not hire these people given that they don't have North American experience, so therfore will be forced to use food banks and the welfare system.

I migrated to Canada in 2000 and moved in to United States after 3 years. Employment discrimination had pushed me out big time. Its funny that all employers were asking Canadian experience during job interview for a just landed immigrant. That’s big bull shit of stupid canadian employer. I’m a civil engineer from the Philippines and can not swallow the pride of being an order picker from canadian tire distribution center in toronto. I abandoned immigrant status, moved in to Texas, USA and currently working as project manager in the oil and gas sector. Thanks America for fulfilling my american dream together with my family. Sad AF ? we just saw thousands of free loaders entering Texas. How do they expect to get housing and work without papers? We got folks in Texas, American born, that gotta forge check stubs just to get an apartment. It's not easy living over here. Most of the available rooms are on Airbnb cuz there's never a hotel room available. You could spend all of your check just to get outta this heat. It's hard for trade working Americans to find a decent wage because it's so many immigrants that'll go for anything. They'll accept $13/hours knowing damn well the work is worth $30. Why would they offer us a higher salary if people would come over here and work 15 years for change? ??? I hate Texas but I'm worried that moving will yield the same results.

My heart goes out to them but we don't have space or resources for Americans now so I can't see how more people coming in will work.

I don't think anyone truly understands how difficult, time-consuming and painful the US immigration process is unless they either work in the system or have immigrated. My dad has been waiting for an F4 visa since 2007 (priority date December 2007) to come to the US and be reunited with his family, It doesn't look like he'll get the visa within the next 5 years even though he's been waiting for 16 years.He's just one of the millions of people trapped in the broken American immigration system.His experience has thought me to never even try to immigrate to the US.

I'm gonna propose something not so crazy because Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the US all do different parts of these already - that any country that's majority English speaking/common law based legal system can opt in to standardize credentials for high school, university, and trade schools. Each country publishes an annual skills shortage list and any citizen of those countries with the right credentials can apply for a work permit (so you can be properly vetted) that becomes valid with a job offer. The US & Canada already do this for select occupations through NAFTA and Aussies can already effectively move to the US under the E-3 visa program. I'm American but went to university in Australia. It's really silly that we don't already do this. I also live in Florida now and work with people from Trinidad, Jamaica, Bahamas, etc. and it's such an unnecessarily burdensome process to hire a professional who you know already has the credentials and work experience.

US immigration system is broken but it's still the best in western world if you are in engineering, mathematics and tech. I studied and worked in US, moved to India for personal reasons. I realized its difficult to adjust back in India, and US will never let me naturalize, so I moved to Canada. But Canada has hardly any jobs of its own, most of people in tech here work for American companies. In US, even an aerospace, biomedical, virology or genetic engineering person can find job in his/her field despite being on job visa, but in Canada its very tough. \nFew weeks back, I met an Uber driver who came to Canada 4+ years back, mechanical/automative engineer and was not able to find a job in his field despite no need for license with advance education and many years of relevant experience. He became Canadian citizen few weeks back, and guess what, he received 2 job offers in US and was moving to US on TN visa. \nI am myself working on something in Canada that is not my specialization. In US, I can get multiple messages from top government contractors for scientist/researcher positions, but I could not work for them as I don't have citizenship. In canada, despite being a PR, I know many experienced people who are forced to drive uber or do survival jobs.

We can't let the whole world come live here, in Florida the housing situation is so bad people are having to wait on a list until something opens up and then the prices are being driven up so high it's $3,000 just to try to rent an apartment now, working class people cannot afford $3,000 a month plus the cost of everything else with the inflation going, this administration is slowly choking the American people to death, the liberals may not like Trump just because of his personality and that's about all they can come up with because they can't say really anything bad about his progress because he had the country in a great economic place

My career as a corporate pilot ended when my US multi-nat employer moved their flight department from Toronto to Binghamton, NY. They offered me a Restricted Green Card if I moved to Binghamton as the chief pilot. It was a moment of truth. Having worked for two different US companies, and having been in every state except Hawaii, I concluded that I could not do that to my kids. While I have friends in the US who are fantastic in every way, I never felt comfortable talking about politics or religion with any of them. I felt so strongly about it that I gave up flying even though I loved it. The American's excessive religiosity, gun fetish, racism, the possibility of being conscripted to fight in some bullshit, unnecessary war, and the lack of a national healthcare plan all factored into my decision. In 2015, when the US electorate chose an ignorant New York con man with authoritarian fascist ambitions to be their president, I felt fully vindicated in my choice.

As a Canadian who lived and worked in the US for 10 years, I can honestly say the US is BETTER in almost every way! I am a nurse who lived and worked in both countries,band I feel most Canadians are just ignorant to the truth that Canada costs more to live in with a much lower standard of living. We are taxed to death, get substandard healthcare while being fed propaganda that we have it so “good” here. Also as a whole, Canadians are lazier than Americans, and have a sense of superiority that really isn’t warranted. And btw, don’t get sick in Canada if you are not rich also…plus you will get assisted suicide pushed on you.

House prices have increased because of businesses and law firms investing in the housing market. Ask your landlord who owns the house. They knew the market trend with the immigrants surging in. Brain drain comes from companies in Canada hiring immigrants with education, and accept lower wages. Americans work harder because they get paid more and know most of it does not go to tax. In Canada, its better to not work overtime because you get put into another tax bracket and you end getting pennies on the dollar. Nobody mentions the Colonial political system we have. Canada has another problem that you forgot to cover. Canada isn't an entrepreneurial nation like America. Canadians are less risk taking compared to Americans which means you can have an influx of immigrants but less jobs for them therefore they will leave back to their own countries again. Most of the top employers of engineers in Canada are foreign companies, not local. Salaries in America are high due to the immense labor competition for engineers as there are more startups and entrepreneurial people. \n\nThen in Canada they require certain Canadian certifications especially for doctors which isn't as bad as in the US. So you have some engineers or doctors that end up working low paid jobs since they would have to repeat school in Canada from an accredited Canadian university. I don't see this as a problem for the US at all because these immigrants aren't going to create new companies and are merely looking for a job. Canadians not being as entrepreneurial and not starting companies to compete for the talents of these professionals will just result in these professionals working out of the Canadian offices of American and Asian tech companies.\n\nOverall not a win or loss for America. Even if these guys end up working in the Canadian division of American companies, American companies will still have the benefit of their talent which is a win at a lower cost for the US companies.

Immigrants who've illegally crossed the US Southern border won't have their cases heard until 2030. As an American, I would have felt sorry for our strict immigration policies. Then I lived abroad and realized it's far more generous than where these immigrants are coming from. Work visa are more strict in other countries, the path to citizenship is denied, and property ownership is precarious. The Golden Rule should apply, treat immigrants to your country the way you want to be treated. Otherwise, don't complain and be grateful for the opportunity. Our immigration polcies should not change until it is reciprocated.

This is something that could really help my industry if that 65,000 was raised. Everybody knows aviation is a tight industry, and with a massive labor shortage. The flight school I attend is half immigrants, mostly Japanese and Korean with a moderate minority of Europeans and Africans. The Asian students are for the most part wanting to stay in the US, despite not coming from poor nations. The opportunity for a pilot here is leagues above anywhere else bar Europe, but most will likely not even be able to maintain a work visa, let alone a green card. This also means (as pointed out) that leaving the country is hard, and they would only be allowed to fly domestic flights within the country (no flying to Canada). The issues that these highly qualified pilots could solve by being allowed to work in the US airline industry are inconceivable.\n\nIt took my mum (I was born British-American) took 9 years to become a US citizen, I was there for her first swearing in, and the UK is America’s closest ally. Imagine how difficult it is for immigrants not of such nationality.

In terms of average life expectancy, Canada ranks 6th in the world. The USA? 48th. [SOURCE: CIA World Factbook 2023] Why? Canada has universal health care, gun control, and a social ethos that works. The US has for-profit health care, ineffective gun control, and Trump. In Canada, cancer is treated as a disease. In the US? as a profit centre. Even so, most Canadians love most Americans as cousins and friends, and always will.

The only conceivable reason I can see is for actors there are more opportunities. And musicians have a larger population base to sell to (but that wouldn't require they move there). I work for an american company in Canada and I could move to California for better positions but you couldn't pay me enough to ever consider it.

Americans feel everyone has usa high on a pedestal which couldn't be further from the truth. Hollywood has done a good job of social engineering the people to think usa is the best and do everything the right way and any other way is ìnferior.\nHaving experience working with Americans who were nice people but extremely ignorant that other countries can do things better and try to change everything without considering there is better ways..\nIm not Canadian I'm Australian but being a cousin in the Commonwealth of Nations. We all have a similar philosophy and having a constitutional monarchy protects from tyranical fascist governments.

As a Canadian there looks like some great places to visit in the USA but i would never move to the US. The biggest issue in the US is Gun violence, there attachment to guns. Number two is health care, number three is weather volatility and more adverse weather conditions. Instead of one main government the US seems to have two which prevents any real change for the better. Money controls more government and political decisions than even in Canada which is already bad enough. The NRA controls more government and policing. They are seen as the bigger risk to American safety and security. I believe many Canadians believe the NRA are on the cusp of being the largest domestic terrorist organization and closure to a major cartel. Not even the military could control the NRA if the US decided to enforce new laws that the NRA felt would effect their financial, political or perceived control in the US. This is a big reason Canadians may not want to move to the US. To think there is a private military ready to go to war against their own people in the drop of a hat, reminding North Americans of the war between the North and South. There are beautiful places to see in the US, there are hard working and brave people in the US and i am sure there are more good people than bad but those with power, control and weapons have the great degree of balance. The US has a lot to be proud of and still so much possibility and ability to grow if it were not for those with the majority of power that is not being used for good or in the best interest of the majority of US citizens. Love the architecture and old districts and those trying to preserve the environment, farms, seed diversity and best of what made the US great.

I'm American. The half a point for sleeping with shoes on I don't think is accurate. The only exception to that I can think of is if someone passed out drunk. I did agree with some of their points especially around education. Having a lawyer being an Uber driver should be looked at as a problem though unless it's purely their choice. I work about 70 to 80 hours a week and took three days vacation last year which is no life at all. Not feeling like I can afford to educate myself here gives no end in sight and if i save a dollar today it's worth 50 cents in ten years so retirement is also very hard here in the states.

The thing about the job health insurance that a lot of Americans don't really think of as a business case: If a person has their insurance tied to their job, they will almost never be able to move to another one if they develop a life-threatening condition. Even with diminished bars of entry due to pre-existing conditions, your health insurance can be denied if you transition to another company. If you are denied, your best healthcare options are then tied to your income, and that means you basically have to be unemployed and living on social entitlements. \n\nThe thing is, this locks you into your position, and you are literally at the mercy of the company which means you're only going to be doing the minimum amount of work necessary to not get fired. If you have a socialized/universal single-payer healthcare plan, your job is no longer a limiting factor, you can switch employers basically at-will. The boon for businesses is that people will be more able to move rather than have to get you to do a dance with your insurance company. \n\nThe other thing for me is that having been in the US, I felt less safe in blue states than I did in Canada, and I felt worse in red states. The USA is a beautiful country, but it's a STRANGE society. One thing I can say is the USA tends to get bright fast once they catch on to how big a problem actually is, so here's to hoping that happens soon because brother, you have a mess of problems on your plate. \n\nThis isn't the only thing, but FWIW, I have had multiple opportunities to move to the US for work, and I work in a field where I can command a very good salary, but I choose to not live there. I'd move to Belize, or a Nordic EU country instead.

1. While McDonald's was originally created in the US there is a 2nd version and its 100% Canadian. After the u.s. McDonald's began franchising one of the brothers became so disgusted with the lack of regulation in the US on what is considered 'food' he moved to Canada and relaunched the chain. While the restaurant named remains the same and a handful of the main burgers the two companies are completely separate and have nothing to do with one another.\n\n2. Gov work, nurses, doctors, teachers, etc have a regulated minimum wage of 7.25 are you ....... kidding me??? 3. The US has no paid maternity leave u have the baby take 2 weeks off unpaid and back work 4. Server's make 2.13 + tips an hour ...... 5. The federal and state government recommend homes in the city have sewage plumbing BUT it is not required. There are literally houses in the southern states with the toilets flushing right into the front or backyard. 6. Perfectly fine to pay a man more than a woman in the US because a woman isnt a man. 7. And if a woman literally becomes a man by changing 'her' name + physically in appearance via surgery/hormones/whatever she still won't get paid the same as a man because she still not viewed as a man: no gender rights. 8. Yes, American citizens need to be taken care of first before we let any more people into the country, but let's keep thinking about this... Why are so many people trying to escape Venezuela? Could it possibly be the cripplingly sanctions the US has imposed on Venezuela for decades? There is no better example of how sanctions don't work and only make the population of the country suffer and not the leaders. Why are people trying to leave Mexico, which is a country where guns are 100% illegal? If you guessed violence from the drug cartels being one of the main reasons, good job. Now, why do drug cartels in Mexico even exist? To supply the gigantic appetite that Americans have. Where are the cartels getting their guns from? Once again the answer is Mexico. If you are someone saying Mexico needs to fix itself, just remember that they have the one of the worst neighbors ever. We have no problem giving Israel $3 billion every year and sending our military all over the world to bring democracy to people who never wanted it, but our neighbors to the south? Fuck em. I lived in the US; Virginia for 13 years. For the most part the people are lovely... just like a lot of places. If you treat people with kindness; they usually return that kindness. At least that is my experience. Mind you, I came home in 2006. When I lived there the political climate was completely different. I would absolutely NOT move back to the US. When I came home to Canada; I was so grateful because I had to endure 2 years without Healthcare when I really needed it. I lived on pain pills at that time. I was in a wheelchair by 2008 and so grateful that I was home where my country took care of me when I was unable to work, or even walk. \n\nPolitics has changed so much since then. It was always kind of poler, but when Donald Trump entered the scene; it has become just awful. Again, I love the Americans for the most part, however there is so much racism, homophobia and hate displayed in the country right now. I pray every day that Donald Trump does not become president again. I fear for the United States. I love her as a sister to Canada; she is. I want her people safe...

You say if you've in a small place your children are safe in school. Really?? Do you think the people living in Uvalde (population 15,000) feel safe after 19 children and 2 staff were slaughtered? You do not believe mass shootings are that bad or maybe as an American you are just used to it...Wake up!...300 mass shootings so far this year. You say that most people are 'ok' with health care as Americans are insured through their work Really? What about the 30 000,000 Americans with no health care and the 112,000,000 who \nare struggling pay for health care.  \nYou elected a psychopath for President and he is now running for President again after being indicted twice and is facing at least 2 more. I am an american living in Canada. I used to live and work in Nigeria. I would return to Nigeria before I returned to the USA. Y'all shit the bed.

So I work for a us company. I have for 5 years. in my industry, tech, pay scale is a lot more positive in the states than Canada. I have been offered several times, to have my move paid for, visas and all that jazz, and I still haven't made the jump. \n\nMy salary is also comfortable enough to afford health care, and I still haven't moved. I don't think Americans realize how poor their insurance is. Also have health issues in general.\n\nI also participate in sports that cause injuries (notice I implied I will definitely get injured). I would not want to have American coverage, in fact how do Americans financially justify casual sport activity.\n\nI won't go into political differences. It's extremely nuanced and an extremely interesting conversation. I don't like the Dems very much and the repubs are even worse. \n\nAll of this said it's always on my mind. Its a consideration but seems unlikely. Arizona/Utah/Colorado are my jam. Would love to be there, if it was Canada.

I've always wanted to live in the US, so many happy vacations there as a child and teen. Sadly now due to the health care situation, there's no way I could. If someone makes a lot of money and can afford private insurance and the drugs they need, lucky for them. Especially as a diabetic, the price of insulin is around 5 x in the US what it is here. I don't earn enough to afford the drugs I need if I lived in the US, add in every three month blood work, dr visits, for a self employed person, it's just not doable on what I earn. \n\nAn American I talk to said one of his co workers was being laid off and the co worker was a diabetic and he didn't know what he was going to do without the health insurance the company provided him. It's insane health insurance is tied to employment in the US. people that are self employed would have huge private insurance bills, and people that get laid off or are fired, they could be taking thousands of dollars of drugs a month and all of a sudden it's gone with the job. My mom wouldn't even let us go to the US for a weekend without getting out of the country medical insurance coverage.

I've traveled and worked in many parts of the USA. In most cases, I've found people to be more friendly, helpful and outgoing than Canadians because we tend to be more reserved.\n\nThe exceptions are when Americans feel afraid or threatened for some reason. Then things get really scary very quickly. The gun culture is one reason for this. At a coffee break in Houston my coworkers started talking about guns because one of them had been held up at gunpoint. His car was in the shop to repair a bullet hole in his front fender. This triggered talk about where people kept their guns at home, in their cars and on their persons. A small pile of 3 handguns ended up on the table while we talked, two of them from women's purses. All but one of the people had never used their guns except at a shooting range. The exception blew out a neighbor's over-loud outdoor speakers with a shotgun. He felt this was justified because he paid his shocked neighbor double the destroyed equipment's value in cash. Most of the Texans didn't agree with him but understood his rationale.\n\nI can handle a rifle and shotgun. Many Canadians hunt, but I can't think of a place in Canada where I could have had this conversation.

Radical religion that seems to infiltrate American Politics is frightening - abortion is illegal yet everyone has a gun solely to shoot likely kill another human - makes absolutely no sense.\n\nBottom line - it’s not safe - move to a small town in the US - most can’t because the work isn’t in small town America - sorry!

In terms of family safety and investment I would never move to the U.S.A. When I do travel across the border I make sure I have two sources of medical coverage in case I get ill or have an accident, as I know I might as well jump off a bridge if I end up in the hospital with an illness requiring surgery. Though I do appreciate the grit of Americans and the absolute hell the working class has been through this last decade, I do wish you all the very best and my heart is with you.

For all the amazing things the US has to offer, right now we don't even want to visit there, let alone move there. We've talked about it a lot, but nope. In Canada, generally speaking (although there are exceptions to every rule) we have no idea what political leaning our neighbors favor. Political campaigns last no more than 51 days; they do not start the day after the last election and go on for years. This way, elected officials actually do some work instead of campaigning. Right now, the politics in the US, as well as the judiciary, are literally insane. Gun violence in the US is insane, as is the attitude towards guns. It shouldn't take a shooting that affects you personally to make you care about it, and it's not just at schools. The US has had 28 mass killings, with 140 victims, in 6 months... but the problem is that no one down there cares about that enough to stop it, or even discuss ways to stop it. The politics is so sold out to corporations that what is good for the people just doesn't matter. It is capitalism run amok. Environmental protections? They are an inconvenience, and most of them were rolled back a few years ago under the presidency of He Who Must Not Be Named. So politics, elections, shootings... but wait. There's more. I have a wonderful friend in the US who has amazing health care, and yet when he got cancer, he was screwed. We do pay a health care premium up here, but it is a drop in the bucket compared to what people in the US pay for private insurance. Yes, you have the best hospitals in the world, but it doesn't matter if you can't afford to walk in the door. Now dump the intolerance -- racism, homophobia, religious zealots, misogyny (yes, I am talking women's rights, equal pay, access to health care, etc) -- throw in the crazies with guns, and now ask the question again. I absolutely know that Canada is not perfect, and that the tolerances and attitudes towards all these subjects differs from region to region, but overall we are a country that tries to respect the rights and needs of others, that has empathy for others, that wants to help others, and that is a pretty firm foundation to make us want to stay here. (please don't interpret this as all Americans and all areas of the US have no respect etc... but the predominant issues of health care, politics, religion, corporate greed, and violence, now all supported by a bat-crap crazy SCOTUS, sadly spills and taints it all. I know there are amazing, generous, kind people all over the US, but I don't know where the crazies are or where they might pop up).

I've worked with a lot of people who have moved to the US for work. It's a very compatible place for Canadians to go. The culture is very similar. People move for work pretty seamlessly. I lot of older canadians go to the southern US for 6 months a year for the weather but maintain their canadian citizenship for he medical coverage. \n\nThe COVID mess where twice as many US citizens per capita died compared to Canadians was a bit of a downer. Watching how poorly the political system seems to be to deal with all the real world problems that are out there. \n\nThat 73,000,000 voted for a self admitted scammster and criminal for President is troubling. \n\nThe Gun mess also tends to chase people off. \n\nThe American people seem to be desperate to maintain their freedom to kill each other. I'm not interested in that freedom
