I expect Trump to implement tariffs on the EU, after the election in Germany. If he did it before, the German voters might be reminded of how much sense it makes to be in the EU, which is strong enough to stand up to the US and its bully in chief. People might be less prone to vote for the party that wants to leave the trading block (AfD).

That's the way to counter the imperial dictator Sam's nasty bullying.

This is the correct response to a bully. You must not appear indecisive and fearful against such people.

I always viewed Canada and US as brothers, elder being a bully and the younger just going about its business. I never ever thought it will come to this... and If he occupies Greenland it will also loose the EU. What if BRICS and EU goes against US? Initially it might bring more jobs and money to US but this will be the last nail in the coffin, for some reasons I feel the beginning of the end for US has begun.

It's not just all the parties supporting Canada's counter tariffs. The Canadian people are in support, across political, cultural, economic and geographical lines. Canada has not been as unified about anything that I can remember (and I'm old). Plus, Canadians are a stubborn people with a more community oriented attitude than the USA and we don't like bullies. If we have to change brands of food, stop drinking bourbon and American beer, pay a bit more, even pay more taxes to cover the costs for people affected... so be it. BUT... when the tariff's are lifted, don't be so sure we'll just start buying American again. Stubborn also means we don't let things go easily.

F that. Canadians don’t need to retaliate. Mr Cheeto is a crooked old schoolyard bully and I for one don’t want to play his game. We need to do what’s best for Canadians - find other trading partners, develop manufacturing within our borders, etc. and above all be smart. \nSomeone will benefit from trade wars and it’s not going to be regular Americans or Canadians. The US cannot just impose tarffis like these without repercussions. I hope the EU, UK, Australia and New Zealand follow suit. You cannot bully your allies for economic gain. The US will end up isolating themselves.

I commend those who stand up to bullies. The majority of Americans do not believe that tariffs are currently needed or wanted, especially without first engaging in good faith negotiations.

As a New Zealander I am very proud of when we stood up to the US over using our waters to transport nuclear weapons. I think Canadians should feel the same pride that your standing up now. Don't let them bully you just because of there power, Canada has many true allies all over the world.
