I dont think we should rag on immigrants. I beleive the disastrous consequences in society is due to government policy (and because they do not have the best interests of ordinary Canadians in mind). I have met a lot of good people (immigrants), but I think systemically it is not meant for most Canadians benefit. Government never seems to address the root causes of our issues in society, because the government is a big part of our problems.

Not gonna lie. But Canadian teenagers feel entitled . They don’t want to work which is a shame. That might be a problem with the parents. But a good portion of 20-35 year old living with there parents are white Canadians. Let me be clear before you all slam me. But it is fucking true. Look at the line ups and tell me how many Canadians do you see. None. The problem is they want a job to pay them big money right off the start. We all started somewhere. I worked for 5.35 an hour that was only 20 years ago. That was minimum wage. Ridiculous right!!! But it actually hasn’t moved up much sense then. Saskatchewan is still the lowest minimum wage in all of Canada ( thanks Scott Moe?). I get it. Even right now with the Trudeau government you really can’t make enough money to survive but you have to try.

I have zero problem with people leaving Canada, i wish fewer would come here, at least until we have a responsible government in charge, which may be never.

I know we have our problems. The downside of Democracies are they are wasteful and inefficient. Governing political parties have fixed terms with one incoming party undoing everything the outgoing party set. Equal justice under the law means everything is up for debate in our courts which despite good intentions is still justice unevenly applied between the rich and poor. The plus side is within everything I just stated as well. The ability to criticize our deeply flawed system and those that govern it.Goliath usually wins but David does now and again as well. We have been building more houses right arcoss Canada. Born and day raised here. Immigration is out of control as is all all the social services, bailouts, and specials needs funding. Rhis created a huge debt to income defeciet that anyone with any brains could see coming a mile away. We are also forcing ourselves out of any useful manufacturing and were fooled by the government that mass immigration would solve all the problems. It did the opposite. It was great 30 years ago. Still, I don't know where you could go that is better. Racism was almost gone and the complainers brought it back by wanting to be more than equal.

We pay 40 to 45% in taxes aside from property tax, expensive housing, utiities and food. the current government ruling is the main reason people wanting to leave Canada. you can not blame them just when they think they have seen it all the government adds new taxes(Carbon) we pay all these taxes but we get our garbage picked up once a week!? when a thief steals from you here the police tells you report it yourself online!? there is many problems here but the government pushes to teach little kids sexual contents!? The real problem is Canadian and Provincial governments obsession with taxation rather than investment. All governments all have a spending problem too. \n\nTax our income, tax our after tax dollar that we buy stuff with, tax the stuff we transport goods with, tax the land we live on with after tax dollars, oh yea and let’s tax the money the government rebates us cause that makes sense.

No surprise there, \n\nCanada is NOT attractive to migrants anymore due to multiple reasons.\n\nSoon a 1 bedroom apartment will probably cost 5000$/month for rent in the Major Cities making it impossible to settle here for newcomers.\n\nThe healthcare system has serious problems due to a lack of Doctors and Nurses who left for better paying jobs in US or Europe.\n\nIf you need immediate Specialist care you will probably have to pay hundreds of dollars just to see someone in the Private sector because the Public Health System has huge waiting lists and is understaffed.\n\nYou won’t be able to get a Government Family Doctor because the remaining ones have thousands of patients already so they’re swamped.\n\nYou can wait even 10 years for a Family Doctor and still won’t get one.\n\nYou can’t be bumped up on waiting lists for Doctors or Specialists even if you are in a critical condition because you aren’t a Celebrity / Politician / Millionaire.\n\nOnly those with a lot of money, status, power get immediate medical attention in case of an emergency.\n\nMost of the traditional medical costs like and eye exam, treating an ingrown toe nail, Physiatrie treatment are NOT covered by the Provinces anymore so you will have to pay out of pocket hundreds of dollars again.\n\nSome Provinces are already copying the US healthcare system which is 100% Private and for profit so don’t be surprised if you you’re gonna have to pay even for an infusion.\n\nThe minimum wage is only 15$/hour in most provinces when in reality you need at least 40$/hour to survive the ridiculous cost of living.\n\nYour typical salary will go 45% to taxes and 45% to rent leaving almost nothing for food / bills / gas / insurance etc. \n\nYou will struggle to make ends meet and possibly starve a week or two every month just to say that you’re “Canadian” \n\nThat is the sad reality but Canada is in a deep hole right now.\n\nUK is in a similar situation too.

Liberal PM Cretian was elected in 1993. He ended the Federal housing programs, and shifted the responsibility for building social housing to the provinces. Of course the provinces did nothing in response. The municipal governments put in a lot of regulation, I suppose to protect the environment, and NIMBY. Home builders only built profitable homes, which were tiny condos in towers. The risks and rewards were pushed onto the private sector, meaning only the rich could participate in the overheated housing market. Then the PRC decided to start a global plague via a badly managed bioweapons lab, causing massive inflation across the planet. The problem is complex, because humans are too stupid to manage the planet properly. Canada is just a symptom of human overpopulation and idiocy.

The problem is immigration policy and housing policy were treated as separate. Yes, I know, how is this possible? Easy, incompetence. This problem was allowed to boil and that the kettle blew up the geniuses are scratching their ass wondering what went wrong. The government's answer, move the Minister of Immigration and make him Minister of Housing. This is akin to inviting the arsonist who was responsible for the fire to put it out. By the way, listening to this pompous windbag is worth the amusement. In one interview he stated the obvious, how immigration was a problem for housing, something that escaped powers of observation when he was Minister of Immigration.

I hope they pass the word around so we get fewer illegals and economic migrants. Canada has to get its house in order for its own people not for all the people coming without being properly vetted according to our “not so good” immigration Law. Our country has many serious problems to address and fix i.e., health care, military funding, police funding, housing, affordable food. We need our borders strengthened and we need a government that puts the citizens first, not a government leader who with his every off the wall action makes us look an easy touch for the criminal element roaming the world. An excellent example of that is the horror story that is New York City.

The economy is like a neural network. When the government issues a decree or a regulation on some aspect, that axis/vertex become less efficient. When it happens too much, that portion of the economy freezes.\nThis is the problem with interventionism. An extreme example where the economy is all frozen and controlled, was the Soviet Union.

Students arent the problem here though, the housing market is the issue across the entire western world. Something about it is broken, and the governments need to make housing more affordable - it’s ridiculous we have to work 10 years with no expenses just to pay for the house - in reality maybe we will get the house at 65, IF we even get the mortgage and can sustain paying it. This is ridiculous!

With this insane prices Canada will be loosing more and more people. People now come here then turn around as soon as they see the price insanity. This country is not good to migrate to anymore, and the government not doing nothing to fix the problem. Prices are a huge turn off about Canada.

As a person living for around twenty years in Canada, the real problem is too much supply of human resources from outside Canada especially from India. This is around 35% and trying to concentrate in certain areas of Canada. This has caused too much burden on Health care, Transportation, housing, and other public services in those areas. Unlike the time I migrated to Canada, all places are now overcrowded. There are not enough job opportunities due to the large influx of students. Thousands of applicants for one job from the day they arrive here. You can get some idea of how many applied on the job site Indeed. This has resulted in companies and job agencies exploiting students by paying low wages and firing them indiscriminately. Therefore, both the Canadian government and the Indian government have a role to play and Students too should be aware of the real situation here.

Toronto resident here. I do agree with everything that Alina pointed out. Those thing exist. But the only REAL problem is the high cost of rent. It now equals and even surpasses the cost of a mortgage. If the rent problem were resolved, and they can do this by simply building more housing (which they are now starting to do - with government programs and incentives), then most of these problems Alina reported on would recede or disappear completely. \n\nAlso, the homelessness is not visually worse than anywhere else I've visited. Homeless encampments are visible in every city I've been too. However, in Toronto, a LOT of homeless people come from other parts of Canada. \n\nThe violence that Alina referred to was just a snapshot in time. She made her video around 4 months ago, and at that time there were several truly shocking incidents on the subway (which even made international news). Those incidents have not continued. The subway system, and Toronto, is still a very, very safe city. We are the third largest city in North America, after LA and NYC, and we had something like 50 homicides last year. Chicago has like 500. Just by way of example. \n\nI love Toronto, even though it is very expensive to pay rent here. But there is so much to offer that I wouldn't consider living somewhere else. Not a chance. It's great that you can live somewhere else if you work remotely, but when you're not working, what do you do?...Toronto is safe, clean (except in tourist season), with limitless opportunities for career and lifestyle. Wouldn't live anywhere else.

In short, all of Canada's problems are the result of government interventions. Who would have expected that, especially with good intentions?

Cost of living has gone up due to immigration, plain and simple. The increased market demand from immigrants is not being met by the supply, which means the market inflates. This is economy 101. If there is something people want (housing), the more people who want it and the less of it there is, the more it will cost. Immigration is *dircetly* affecting the housing crisis in an objectively negative way. *Acknowledge it.*\n\nIf you *don't* think that bringing *500,000* new people into the country *every year* is going to further inflate the market then you are delusional. There is not only already too many people in this country for the government and market to handle, but the government's solution is to bring in even more! *They are literally exacerbating the problem before our very eyes.*

The people that are complaining about Canada have some valid points , as do I . But in travelling to other countries you really see how the good extremely out weighs the bad . The main problem in my opinion is allowing massive Immigration without improvement of services across every aspect of living . This leads to the degradation of the quality of life . Government can't have it both ways , Get sufficient housing and services or slow immigration . It's that simple

Before retiring and leaving Canada l lived just northwest of Toronto....the problem of Canada's demise is simple....poor government that decided to give the people everything they asked for but ignored the outcome.....but that's not unusual look at most countries that adopted the baby state option.... it's just not working

I'm an immigrant and my immigrant friends and I were talking about exactly this just the other day. I'd like to add some context on why so few international students stay: they can't. Schools prey on this very fact. In international recruiting, these schools use the promise of thriving local industries and trot out graduates working locally as major draws to these expensive programs. Then once students are in Canada, many of these schools couldn't care less: they offer little or sometimes no housing support, no immigration advice (or in my case and many of my friends' cases: they give straight-up false immigration advice that can screw you over or even get you in trouble). There absolutely needs to be regulation and accountability for these predatory schools; I think a good starting point would be capping the number of visas they can apply for based on the number of housing units available (either on-campus or via local development subsidy and homestays). Tons of students come to Canada completely unprepared due to false promises made by these schools, and then get spit out into an egregiously inefficient and broken work visa system.\nMy immigrant friends and I are all highly skilled in our specific field. There are only a handful of people in the world (let alone in Canada) who can do what I do at the level I do it, so I would be incredibly difficult to replace if I left Canada. Despite that, and despite being Canadian-educated (Canadian resources invested in me that you'd want to keep in Canada), remaining in Canada has been a massive struggle for me and my friends. We individually spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars every year to apply for permits that have to be renewed annually, but take the government 6+ months to process. Because the government is so backed up, we have to apply for *extra* permits to bridge that gap (more money, and more work added to IRCC's already-long line of applications). I'm in limbo for the majority of the year where I can't switch employers, can't leave the country, etc. It's horrible. \nBut I have it better than most. Of the international students in my year, only I and one other student are still in Canada because the transition to work permits is so needlessly long and difficult. Even a graduate who does manage to get a work permit might have to sit unemployed for 6 months or more before that permit is active. How is a student supposed to survive without work for that long? In order for employers to even apply to sponsor a graduate, they often have to do a lengthy labor market impact assessment, and so these graduates are stuck in a holding pattern, and they're the lucky ones. Immigration is absolutely vital to Canada and I hate how quickly these stories turn to xenophobic rhetoric, but we have to make space in the conversation to take a look at how schools are exploiting students and policy loopholes, and why they're doing it, and address those problems. The current system isn't fair to anyone.

At least in Ontario the problem is that for several years now tuition fees have been frozen for domestic students. They have not been indexed even by inflation, even when inflation was skyrocketting. And remember that the provincial government pays extra to higher ed institutions for each domestic student they accept. So of course to manage their budgets colleges and universities started to invite more international students, for where else can they get money from? University admins have been trying to explain this simple math to provincial government leaders, with no success. So I'm surprised that this video is putting so much responsibility on higher ed imstitutions and not on the government that put them in this unfortunate position.

I wonder when they will pay attention to the young Canadian graduated students who for more than a year cannot secure a job in their field of study and many experience mental health problems due to stress and inability to pay off their student loans? \nThis government throws Canadians over board!

Additionally, if we deduct the number of people who are not in the work force such as : children, old people, pregnant woman.... canada definitely doesnt have enough workers. it shouldn't even be a question. we are accepting way too many. it would not be a problem if we spent the last decade or two focusing on improving health care, expanding transportation and infrastructure, attracting jobs, building homes and so on. unfortunately we didn't do that sufficiently. we haven't even started to see the implications of this yet. in 5-10 years time the situation for everyone is going to be more dire than it has been in the last 1-2 years. we are in for very rough times all because we have an addiction to electing utterly useless governments no matter which side of the ideological aisle they sit on. if you think there's a lack of housing, not enough doctors, overcrowded transit systems etc now, it'll be a shock in years time. even if we started to improve these things now, it is not going to keep up to the demand

I moved to Mexico & everything about my life is better not to mention the weather and the people here are friendlier & generous, the sense of history, culture & architecture is incredible so many different climates to explore. Healthcare can be free or there is different levels of private care & they currently have a government that is truly democratic & investing in the country & its people. International students ARE NOT driving up home prices or rent...that's a supply/demand issue (plus the lack of control government has on landlords and how much they can charge for a specific unit) and it's also a foreign buyer issue (yes Chinese foreign buyers, who buy homes in Canada but never move-in and use it as the home as a savings account). Not the international students problem, when the government of Canada DEMANDS THESE STUDENTS NOT WORK FOR MORE THAN 20 HOURS A WEEK and then watches them struggle to pay for rent (and therefore have to live 2 or 3 to a room)...yeah, don't blame the students. BLAME THE GOVERNMENT for bringing these students here, handicapping them by limiting their work hours (minimum wage at that) and then turning around and blaming them for why homes are ridiculously expensive and rent is unaffordable. Yeah, don't blame the government for it's inability to build homes...don't blame the government, instead, blame the minimum wage international student...it's going to be interesting if this actually brings DOWN rent prices and home costs. Which it won't, at which point, the government is going to be pointing fingers at someone else. Like they always do. LOL.
