Welcome to the ex-pat club. I left Canada 14 years ago. Talking to people I still keep in touch with in Canada I realize just after Trudeau got in power that Canada has changed. I suggest if you plan on a move do your research on where you are thinking of moving to. Do not rely on a vacation as they are very different than actually living in a place. I speak from experience. Do I get homesick? Yes but right now I would not even think of moving back to Canada. I am very settled and happy living in the EU even with the problems here. Some things to check out are various cities or towns in various regions of a country, healthcare, schools if you have children, cost of running a car (petro, insurance, etc), price of food, utilities, etc. If your work papers or degrees are accepted, what visas you will need. Once you have made a decision, start learning the language. I could do it anyone can do it.

For me a Québécois, we missed the boat in 1995. Too bad if you don’t like it but we got screwed by newly arrived immigrants back then and we are being drowned by immigrants now. Just look at our military, it’s a monumental farce. Look at the insane levels of immigration, we cannot support this!! PERIOD!!! Landlord and Tenant court is a joke. This country is a banana republic and has been for a long time. Learn to rip people off including the government if you want to live a good life in Canada. We just left Canada 2 weeks ago. Now we’re in the US. Canada has gotten worse for the last few years or decades according to some. When we applied for Canada, all the prosperity was promising. It was like second or third option behind the US and UK. And now, after 7 years, we have decided to really act and do what’s best for our family and the future of our kids. The main reasons why we left Canada, it’s the high and doubled taxes, the very slow healthcare, you get to start to zero despite your decades of managerial experience, they don’t honor your diploma cuz they have their own standard even if your education or work is US standard, the housing and rentals are skyrocketing. Imagine if the rentals are increasing every year by $50-150 is insane. It’s just so inhumane. Back in my birth country in the Philippines, if you’re poor or low income family..the government don’t tax you. You get a high percentage of healthcare assistance and you also get some free social services including monthly allowance from the national government and another separate assistance from the local government. Canada is beautiful if you have money with all the good and kind people around, but the expenses, it’s gonna kill your pocket.

I've lived in Canada since the late 1980's, starting in Quebec, then Ontario and since 2010 Alberta. I've seen the decline and really don't like where this has gone. However, there have always been ups and downs and the recent pandemic has caused problems for every country. I still like living here, but I love travel as well. So for now we're snowbirds, exploring different locations in South and Central America each winter. I also have ties to Germany, but so far life in Canada suits me more. I came back to Canada in 2022 after 20 years living abroad, and it's been a mixed bag. Getting a good job is extremely difficult as international experience is rarely factored into potential employers decisions to hire - even if the companies you've worked for are Fortune 500. If you didn't work for that company in Canada, good luck getting the same position. You'll be working in a junior position despite your previous job title. My wife is currently going through this. She went from Project Manager at one for largest companies in the world to junior developer at a small company. Pay is.......not great.\n\nI've been lucky with having a lot of support of family and friends. A lot of the clients I've started to work with in my profession came through people I know. I never would have got these opportunities on my own in that amount of time. It would have taken years. Nepotism played a big part.\n\nTo come to Canada, and start a new life without a solid support system would be absolutely brutal right now. I got really lucky, but my situation isn't normal. I wouldn't recommend anyone (Canadian or immigrant) to come back right now if they're been gone for a long time. The rent alone is enough to turn anyone away.

We are also leaving Canada later this fall, will explore a digital nomad life in Europe starting with Algarve Portugal, my husband and I recently obtained our Hungarian EU citizenship via descent and have dual citizenships/passports. It's easy to immigrate, you're in the same timezone as most of the English-speaking audience (that makes the most money per view) and Mexico (and Canada) have extremely comprehensive tax treaties with the US and endless MOUs and so on, which make dealing with Google and the IRS super easy. Your words resonated with me deeply. We are a family of two who moved to Canada over two decades ago to start a new chapter and pursue our dreams. Now, we may need to move and start anew elsewhere. We’ll continue to follow our dreams, no matter where they take us.

So, everyone that convinced me to go to Canada is now leaving the country, including my fellow Hispanic YouTubers ... and I'm barely starting my journey, this just leaves me concerned instead of excited and it really makes me sad to be saying that, hopefully those who will go through the hard times in Canada will also get rewarded, and remember amigos, when in Canada, behave as Canadian.

Justin Trudeau and the liberals have destroyed this Country. I was born and raised in Canada in a town in Ontario along one of the Great Lakes Lake Erie. My parents and even their parents were born and raised in that same area I am from and Canada was a great place but since Justin Trudeau become PM everything started to change and not in a slow unnoticeable way it was fast. Drugs and homelessness started to become a thing something I have never seen in my life and even my neighbourhood and town started to change too with people that don't speak english and wait times in the ER started to be so much longer and even finding a doctor when I moved to the city was impossible to get. I have not traveled much only in a car or truck and never been on a airplane but I am considering moving out of Canada too. I am going to wait and see what happens in the election and see if things begin to charge before I leave the only place I know and start new somewhere else. I have been thinking of Southeast Asia like Laos or Thailand because there Canadian funds are worth something and you can live and at for very cheap and get a very nice place for half or less of what rent is here.

I see alot of doom and gloom. But Canada is still one of the best countries to live in. Alot of Millenials and Gen Z think that becuase we are born in this country we are entitled to certain standards of living without sacrifice. You have to live below your means. You have to be willing to relocate to a part of Canada that may be looked down upon by others. You have to be willing to start at the ground floor of a company and work your way up ecrimimentally even if you\n just start out by cleaning toilets. Immigrants come to Canada without a dime to their name yet become millionaires through hardwork amd determination. You have to find a partner that is willing to sacifice too and stick with them through the ups and downs. Love and challenge your children to be better. Live below you means and invest the difference. You have to be patient this will not come over night but in decades and if you continually build little by little you will suceed. You can do it. l Support your new dream of living a better life , l made that same choice in 1993 . As a fellow traveller you see how other cultures deal with life. Canada started going backwards when the Conservatives enacted the GST , like we needed more taxation . Canadian government is self serving just like the USA. I am Chinese from Malaysia. I lived in Toronto Canada for 2 years as a Student. I really like the people in Canada. It is very diverse and friendly as well. But I left to come to San Francisco because the Winter is just too Cold and I was Sick all the time. Here Homelessness in San Francisco and Drug use is out of control. People blame both sides of the government and even threaten Civil War if one party loses in the next election. You are still young and be able to make mistakes and still start all over again. Make sure you have a contingency plan to fall back on. May the odds of life be in your favor.

Respect - good for you for being bold and taking the leap into the unknown/ new adventure. With so many countries now offering a digital nomad visa, that fits your business, I think you could do the transition successfully and lower your cost of living as well, plus also have many amazing adventures. \nI lived abroad in Spain, and I am in a completely different life stage than you, and I returned to Canada as many things are easier being in Canada as a Canadian (and some other factors specific to my own situation). I started making plans to leave Canada back in 2013. I left in October of 2021, during the Covid insanity, where the people and Government of Canada revealed who they truly were. It was the best move I ever made for my family and I. We are much better off being out of the shit-hole that is Canada.

It's sad to see you being pushed out of Canada. Unfortunately this is happening to a lot of people but what we're witnessing, especially over this last 10 odd years is the symptom of the underlying problem we have. It's happening in Europe, the UK and the US as well. We are losing our young people which IS the future of this country but unfortunately when they see no future here it's normal to start looking elsewhere. Canada really started to go downhill after Trudeau got in. Im too old and set to move but if i was 30 years younger i would move to Russia.

I don't know what's worse, in Canada they request masters and doctorates to emigrate and work in cleaning. Lately the so welcoming society started blaming immigrants for their problems instead of their government and companies dedicated to speculate with housing and real state.

In my experience, there has always been a feeling in Canada against immigrants. This is generally among the working class. \n\nIn the early 1990s I was doing a lot of work in Canada for a US tech company. I am an American, by the way. One time I was working with a Chinese Canadian engineer, who worked for the client company. We went to the loading dock to check on the equipment from my company, which had just arrived. The native Canadian loading dock workers were openly making racist slurs about the Chinese engineer, right in front of him. He was very careful not to respond. I asked him about it later, and he just waved it off. This was in the Toronto area. I was also warned about Chinese who were involved in organized crime in the city. Then, a few days later I saw it in downtown Toronto. Two Chinese men in a Mercedes had stopped on the road and pulled a woman out of the car and started threatening her. It was a tense situation. \n\nOften it is the government types that welcome the immigrants, for various reasons. Canada does indeed have a demographic problem. \n\nThis is not the 19th and early 20th century in Canada or the US or Europe. Today we have extensive social safety nets. This means taxpayer dollars. In the earlier times the immigrants had to fend for themselves. Even then, there would be feelings against the immigrants. At least in the US it was a time of rapid economic and geographic expansion. Not so anymore.

Canada has to start recognising degrees from other countries. Here in B.C. we have emergency rooms closing overnight due to lack of staffing. We need doctors and nurses yet the barriers for those immigrating to get their degrees recognised mean many never qualify.\n\nCanada also needs to look at who we are admitting in and to terminate the family unification policy. When immigration was helping the country grow there was a different demographic coming in. Often it was single men or young married couples. As they came by themselves they assimilated into the mosiac of the country. When you concentrate on immigrants from one country instead of assimilating they setup ethnic communities. \n\nLook into what study groups have said that is contributing to gang violence. It's ethnic groups that have the grandparents, parents and grand kids all living in one home. The grandparents want the grand kids to adhere to their native culture. Unfortunately by time you get to the grand kids they are Canadian. They speak English/French depending where they live with little interest in speaking their ethnic language. There is cultural conflict within the home hence street life is where they find love and caring.\n\nSome cultures are not as community minded. Part of the high cost of renting/housing is based on greed not need. In my own community I know of apartment units now renting at 2,500 - 4,000/month owned by the same people that even five years back you could have rented for 500 - 800. There is no justification for that percentage of increase other than greed.\n\nJob opportunities. Summer employment for school kids is going down yearly. You see local business that use to hire students over the summer month claiming they can't find any workers. They bring in TFW yet Canadian students can't find work. You can tell the owners nationality of a business by the nationality of the workforce. A local store bought by a east Indian two years ago which at the time had a diverse workforce is now entirely staffed by east Indians. Yet who screams racist? \n\nCanada definitely needs to reconsider its immigration policy and bring in major changes.

110k thousand people a month. We are building 250k houses a year. Math is hard, I get it. But this isn’t a hard problem. We are a software engineer and a graphic designer. We couldn't afford a home in Canada, and were facing a life of escalating poverty. We left Canada two years ago to start a new life in El Salvador. It has been the best decision of our lives.

I have a relative originating from Caribbean who recently tried setting up in Canada, and echoed what the commentator has, i.e. that you have to start from the bottom in terms of work, having to work unskilled jobs, even if you are already qualified in a profession in your country of origin. Catch-22 situation of being required to have Canadian experience first, is true.

Why is everyone moving to Toronto. Canada is not Toronto. There are many places in Canada that needs to be developed. Why not develop other places. Toronto is saturated with people. Our resources are depleted. Rents are very high. New immigrants should go live in other parts of Canada. Start communities and businesses in other areas. All new immigrants cannot settle in Toronto. We need the rest of Canada to be developed.

I live in rural Atlantic Canada. There is lots and lots of land not being used. People driving long distances from their huge single family home to get to town or the city. If no Canadians are moving to the country side to start homesteads, then why not immigrants. I don't see the point of someone moving to a local small town to work in a Tim Hortons or not if there is no job available and buy franken foods from huge corporations. Instead if some immigrants want a homesteading life (some probably would), give people grants to make apartments in their huge single family farmhouses left from the days when people had ten kids, and subdivide their land so the new people can farm it. The local people can get rent money and payment for the subdivision and still have a large plot of land left over). Grow the local farmers markets! Grow the small towns to what they were 100 years ago! Make it so people only had to drive to the city when they wanted to, not for work. There is so so much empty land out here used for massive lawns.

They went to Pakistan, Pakistan saw that as ppportunity and asked the USA for help. The USA was kind enough to take in those folks and dump them in Canada,. Give them funds to for their Khalistani movement, to create problem for India to make Pakistan happy. Just like the USA once funded Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, etc. to hurt Russia. \nMeanwhile, Canada started using those criminals as a Vote bank. And what do these folks do? They form gangs, of course! Gangs need people, so they started inviting or smuggling people from India. Canada isn't a nation of immigrants at all. Canadians are the descendants of immigrants the same as everyone else on the planet, including the indigenous. That is, unless your family has never left the place where humans first evolved.\n\nUnlike modern immigrants, the first white settlers in north America did not sail into an established society with power stations, health care, water and power distribution networks etc., to get the benefit of other people's hard work and investment.
