I live in Manitoba where the cost of living is pretty close to the cheapest in Canada. Yes minimum wage is $11.95 and apparently going up shortly. Free health care you mentioned waiting 8 hours in emergency but you failed to mention if you need to see a specialist your talking months and you'll probably die first. Canadians don't pay much more than Americans in taxes. Infact, the taxes for rich Americans is higher than for equivalent incomes in Canada. However, Canadians get much more from their government than Americans. I think the reason why Nigerians complain in Canada is because the initial process of getting documents and setting down is too easy in Canada, so when they settle down to work and realize that they actually have to work hard to pay for the goodies, they begin to complain

I have to respectfully disagree with you girls on the tax system in Canada. You mention that you cannot be a millionaire or a billionaire. \n\nI really think that is the problem with our generation, excessive greed, everyone wants to be a millionaire/billionaire, but the reality is most of people in this world will only live an average middle class life or below, that has been the case throughout history in every country on earth. \n\nInstead of wanting to be a millionaire you should strive follow your passion and to master your craft, and if and when you do so, the end result maybe you achieving millionaire billionaire status \n\nThis how most rich people got their wealth, they worked at their craft and had passion and eventually they got the wealth that came along with it \n\nI agree with Canada's progressive tax system, the only problems we have run into since 2010 is that the government has been misallocating taxes collected and giving co-operate tax breaks. All the problems explained are true but they are here for a reason. It can sound cruel to make a doctor take an extra 4 years of school but you have to understand that the diploma they got in their home country is not equivelent to the quality of a canadian one. Hell, in Cambodia, you can pay 100 000K and you are a certified doctor, that can't fly in Canada.

Free healthcare is not free we Canadians have to pay for it and that is one of the reasons why our tax is so high and having this kind of healthcare means it will take you a long time to get treatments done and we have to wait a long time to see a doctor where places like the USA you have to have insurance or pay cash but you get it done quick and don't have to live with pain for a long time but if you are in need of emergency issues right away they will get you in as soon as they can but for non life threatening issues prepare to wait a long time.

I couldn't agree with you more. Canada has become another one of those mindless Totalitarian states like American China, Russia, etc., etc. I spent 10 years in China working as a teacher. I went there because I was fed up in my country and when I returned it was worse than when I left. As I am now 68, if I can afford to leave again I will and I'll never return again. I told the Chinese who knew me I was returning because I missed the land, but I never really missed the people. Now that I'm back, since Jan. 2022, I want to leave again and I will and Never return. Health care in this country is in the Sh*t-house, it's impossible to get a family Dr. In part I returned for medical reasons, but now would rather die than have to deal the the Canadian medical bureaucracy - REALLY !!! My wife, my 3 kids and I used to like Vancouver but not anymore!!! The weather is why we plan to leave for good but also the expensive rents! I also heard about horror stories at many hospitals (and yes, I have worked in Africa and to be honest, Africans hospitals are way more functional than the ones in Canada in terms of human aspect… there they care, Canadians do not give a shit about anyone!!! And I am saying this as a Belgian!!! I have some African colleagues at work here and at least 80 percent of them either want to go back to Africa (one is actually going to start an Afro business there and build his own house) or move to Europe (one of them plans to live to my homeland Belgium and two others in France as apparent the pensions there are way better than the Canadian one) as soon as they get enough experience in canada! None of us at work , including me, want to retire or get old here in Canada! For me personally, it is the Canadian extreme loneliness and lack of willingness to open to others that really shuts me down… I am fed up and and tired of paying taxes in a country where some (not all) hospitals and some retirement homes treat patients like … objects, not human beings! In 2004 I wrote a somewhat famous article called 'Eight reasons not to immigrate to Canada'. In short, the Canadian authorities tried to destroy my life. They made it so that I could not be employable in Canada. So I moved to the U.S. in 2005 and then some years later I moved permanently to Asia. I am happy that so many years later videos like yours are saying essentially the same thing. I was ahead of my time. I will never go back to Canada, not live, not to visit, not even a connecting flight. Too expensive, too cold, too depressing, very high taxes, no jobs, xenophobic people . . . a horrible place.

Im Asian and I love Vancouver! The weather is beautiful and mild! I enjoy the rainy days cozying up with nice jazz music on gorgeous cafes and restaurants Vancouver has. It is expensive yes, however if your Asian its not, you just havent explored the Asian market place, cheap housing are also available in the outskirt cities and the best part of it is you are near the beaches and outdoor recreation and fun! Taxes are high yep thats true however with three different surgeries my family had from Apendicitis, to Gall bladder stone removal and stent angioplasty that could have cost us millions but got it for free, also the Free education, Child support, CERB, etc, taxes doesnt seem to matter anymore. British Columbia's mountain ranges, ski resort, hot springs, also Albertas Banf, Jasper, and Canmore for me are truly majestic safe and beautiful! Ive been all around South east Asia Europe and even the middle east however the welcoming nature and culture of Canadians and the power of a canadian Passport for me trumps all other cities in other countries. If you want to learn extreme news go to Asia like, China, North Korea, and the Philippines, also the USA the most extreme of them all! Rules are indeed frustrating but Canadian rules are nothing compared to Singapore, if you want freedom try India, try to walk in sexy clothing on the streets. In the Philippines everybody drives drunk specially on Friday nights. The Canadian mindset of a Multi cultural communinty and the welcoming athmosphere of their thinking for me is the reason why Canada is truly the best place to live.

I was born in Quebec, I grew up there, studied, worked, lived almost all my life, except for a few years in Toronto and Ottawa for studies and work, where I never really felt at home, but like in a foreign country. I love Quebec, its history, its culture, its language, its way of life and Quebecers in general. I get used to its climate, its six months or so of winter, but still with nice, hot summers. I also put up with the high cost of living due to the multiple taxes to be paid, the highest in North America, which means that, paradoxically, it still costs less to live here than elsewhere in Canada and to the social safety net Quebecers benefit and which is the envy of many citizens elsewhere in the country. The shadow on the board: the hostility and racism of English Canada, including most Anglophones in Quebec and the allophones who join this recalcitrant community towards Quebec and Francophones in general, the ambient wokism, the complacency of the mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante, who has transformed the city into a huge bike path, Justin Trudeau's hypocrisy regarding Quebec legislation for the protection of language and secularism, which he intends to challenge before the Supreme Court of the country . If I weren't so attached to Quebec, these would be the main reasons that would make me leave Quebec, but to go where, like the wandering Canadian of song, banished from his homeland... Where? #1 reason I would leave and I’m a Canadian is Trudeau. He’s a jerk. Canada was so much better without this asshole. I live in Toronto. Lucky enough to buy a house downtown in 1995 and we have good jobs. So $ isn’t a factor like for other people. But the liberals are ruining this beautiful country.

I actually don't object , particularly, to my high taxes in Canada. I do object to the fact that it took me , 15 extra working years to achieve a reasonable income due to the cost of an education being beyond my reach. Now that I have a reasonable income, I find those high taxes spent poorly. Dental care and extended medical or medications? Not covered.\n\nSo where do these high taxes go? Comparing my tax rate to the functional half of Europe's countries, it's about the same, more or less. \n\nBut they have better health care, affordable education and housing.\n\nAnd as others have pointed out, despite living in the biggest city, it's still relatively boring to many of the Major cities I've stayed in globally.\n\nI recommend Canada to immigrants who would enjoy a Rural or Suburban lifestyle that still has access to amenities and infrastructure. There are more opportunities in some ways, and the costs of living are much more affordable. But if you are interested in an urban life with what that has come to mean globally, the best Canadian cities can offer you is 'diverse restaurant options'.

Good video overall, but HUGE WARNING - You quoted the Fraser Institute (11:07) regarding the tax rates. They are not a research institute - they are a neoliberal think-tank that is openly anti-tax, anti-government and has the agenda of discrediting all social programs and social spending. The tax rate is Canada for individuals is actually quite reasonable for the social programs. I'm a Canadian living in Germany now, and I love it here, but we pay way more tax.

I'm Canadian and think the biggest issue is a lack of infrastructure. Even in a lot of major cities, things you'd expect to see like subway stations, corner markets, or arcades are uncommon. It's hard to find a job when there aren't many places to work, and it's hard to afford things when it's difficult or expensive to ship those things from place to place. Immigration could boost our population so we can better tackle these issues, but our system forces immigrants to start from scratch. That doesn't provide immigrants with much reason to choose Canada instead of the Netherlands, the USA, Singapore, or some other country.

A lot of these reasons apply to Canadian born people as well. Outside of doctors, basically every top Canadian born student I know has moved to the USA for jobs - myself included. There are large economic issues here and you can imagine if it is that bad for Canadian born people, it is going to be even harder for immigrants. \n\nIt's unfortunate and I wish the system would improve. But also nobody is forced to immigrate to Canada. Constructive discussions is great but some people just want to spit on the way for the sake of spitting

I like how y’all have created this video by not applying a negative undertone rather more of an informative approach to caution prospective movers of what potentially awaits them. All I would like to highlight is the fact that some people will experience all these points as negative aspects or maybe even one or two that might lead to the breaking point.\nIt all depends on where you come from and how life was in your “home” country.\nYou might come from a higher tax environment with non existent healthcare and education. From that perspective, 40% taxes might look better and the healthcare might be great or crap depending on what your health issues are. I personally haven’t had any struggles with most of these aspects - finding a great job was relatively easier, (key word - relatively) the healthcare system worked for me when I needed it to, I was mentally prepared for the high taxes, I culturally adapted to the point where people thought I was Canadian and didn’t realize I came in from a very different environment. I’m sure this cultural adaptation helped me with my job and made it easier to live here.\nAll in all, you can say I’ve had the “perfect” immigrant experience that most people would dream of. But what do i think really? Personally, I have come to realize that Canada at the moment does not fit into my personal goals and values and that is okay. Loneliness away from people you love can be tough. It just isn’t the same feeling making new friends and hanging out with coworkers who are much older than you are and in a different place in life. I’m very close to my family and friends who I’ve grown up with and are on the other side of the world. My parents are getting older and I want to spend as much time with them as possible. For that reason, I might consider being somewhere closer to them. I’d perhaps consider coming back here some day when I’ve got my own family and kids which I currently don’t have. To me, that’s a personal value high on the list. I guess my only takeaway from this video and advise to people looking at each of these points - take each one and compare it with your home country. As an Canadian I NEEEEEED TO SAY that one of Alberta's biggest problems, and a reason you may not want to live there, was not mentioned in this video. ALBERTA HAS A HUGE PROBLEM with racism, and sexism really. I'm not the one to speak on its nuances, but I can tell you based on my 6 month stay there, its not somewhere I want to live. I'm not even a person of colour, just female and it was horrid. I can't imagine being indigenous and female. No reasonably intelligent , thinking Canadian, says that healthcare is “free”. So stop misleading people. The actual truth is that healthcare in Canada is covered by the taxation system and is “ universal” meaning every citizen is covered for most services and for necessary treatments and surgeries. Elective procedure such as having a boob job , for the most part are not covered, nor should they be. Furthermore, most thinking people acknowledge that the system is not perfect, and is often strained by those irresponsible people who abuse it. Higher taxes are the price we pay to feel confident that in the event of necessary hospitalization or treatment, we need not fear financial ruin and or bankruptcy as is quite common in the US for example. Nothing is free unless you believe in the tooth fairy and Santa Claus. Think before you speak.

Diversity isn’t our strength,fighting for freedom ideals and being a nation united is,unfortunately since we immigration ourselves into division we don’t have that strength and the biggest reason people leave and return to their home country is because our PM only let you in for a vote from you and they realize this and realize that Canadians don’t actually want them here and they leave because we won’t give them hand outs,that’s basically it.

I'm a Canadian, and can comfortably state that Canada's reputation was cemented in the early seventies, and anyone choosing to come here based on that reputation, does so under false pretences. The majority of the immigrants I have come into contact with quickly become disillusioned with Canada, and eventually feel compelled to leave. The cost of living, combined with a lack of opportunities, and low wages, means that leading a normal life here is largely out of the question. Crime is a huge problem in BC, as Vancouver has become the de facto money laundering centre for North America. As a result, Canada is now extremely attractive for all the wrong reasons. At present, Canada is experiencing internal mass migration patterns driven by economic necessity, as the cost of living is prohibitively expensive in most urban centres. There is also a corresponding mass migration pattern of those who were born here away from the major cities, as Canada now lets in 500K, largely unvetted, immigrants into the country each year, most of whom are from war-ravaged, or third world, countries. With so many disparate languages and cultures from all over the world, it makes life utterly chaotic. The different nationalities never mix, and there is no effort expended to integrate with the Canadians who were born here. The Chinese live in Richmond, the East Indians in Surrey, and they have NOTHING to do with each other. Having traveled abroad, it's shocking how primitive it is in Canada. My advice to anyone thinking of coming here: Would you buy a ticket for a cruise on a ship that has a massive hole under the waterline?

The reason people leave Canada within first 20 years is they do not have sizable retirement fund to enjoy comfortable retirement life after retirement. The reason half of that leave within 1 year is they cannot afford to live decently here until they find a job in their field or it takes many years before they start making a professional career and seeing the plight of immigrants of their community struggling in menial low paying jobs living in dorm rooms. These two ladies seems from east european backgrounds, these people have comparatively better prospects in Canada than immigrants from Asia or Africa. The reason skin colors make lot of difference. The reality is Canadian government is trying to do everything it can to create opportunities for all immigrants but unable due to racist white people. Just giving a job to immigrant is not enough, they must be able to sustain those jobs for reasonable periods of time. This is where Canada ls lagging. This is clear proof, Racism is very high in Canada. Just the valid proof is these two ladies open an channel and got 180K views within 3 months, they probably make lot of money on this channel. This is Canada. If they really have much productive jobs they will not do this.

I will be leaving Canada within a year or so after declaring non-residency and bring my business with me. My view is that Canada is a good place to live a normal life. Healthcare covers your peace of mind, even if the waitlist is long and bureaucratic. Social benefit is not as generous as people suggest sometimes (at least in Canada unless you're on actual welfare where you can't work but you can't rise your way up easily and you're forever stuck in 1.5k CAD/month... which would be ofc much better than other struggling countries but immigrants often aspire for greater things than that. \n\nEven though I was an Asian immigrant, I never faced significant racism afaik (I could be socially naive however), but there are definitely limitations of opportunities. It's not too difficult to find entry to intermediate jobs, at least for me but that's probably because I did schooling here in Canada. And I was able to network aggressively and learned to be an extrovert, so that also helped. But still, Canadian living cost is high (and I'm saying this from Calgary... imagine what it's like in Vancouver/Toronto). Is it doable? Ofc. 50-70k CAD/year is quite doable ESPECIALLY in Calgary, Alberta. But it'd be difficult to achieve financial independence and true wealth. This is true everywhere ofc but more so in Canada compared to, say, USA where living cost is lower and wage is higher with more opportunities. It's a great place to live normally. If you wanna become exceptional (wealth, customized goods and services, etc), it become harder and costs more. \n\nEven now when I now own business after struggling to get here over 10 years that generates income that I need to achieve financial freedom, tax becomes frightfully bad. Alberta (that imposes lowest tax rate compared to other Canadian provinces (not including territories for obvious reason) is comparable to California in USA that is among the highest in all US states. And let's be real; Alberta is nowhere close of being California. Imagine the taxes in BC/Ontario shiver. \n\nOnce my tax rate becomes high enough to justify moving, I will pull the trigger. Still window-shopping where I wanna go and I have some lists but it's gonna happen especially as Canada will have to deal with their struggling economy, further distancing from US and their government mismanagement that continues to cost the society. I will not have any part in it. I may come back once in a while for visit or potentially retire depending on what the future looks like but right now, I just don't see my longterm future here.

I grew up in Edmonton and left Canada 30 years ago because the Edmonton Police simply would not leave me alone. I couldn't even drive my car around the block without winding up in a courtroom. The police harassed my parents for years after I left hoping to find me. (i.e. STAASI). Now I live in subtropical Australia and still drive the same Oldsmobile. I never have legal problems here and at one stage owned three houses. In Canada I am labelled as a racist but here I have a Chinese wife and my daughter is fluent in Mandarin. The reason that taxes are so high in Canada is that Multiculturalism costs money. Every time some monument or cultural center is built, someone has to pay for it. My greatest disdain of Canadian society is the political correctness. I remember before 1984 when one could tell a joke without fear of incrimination.

I'm part of that statistic. I moved after 12 years in Canada. I moved to Asia with a one way ticket and have never looked back. One reason why I never thought about returning - one year where I live in Asia is equal to five years in Canada savings wise. With lot of hard work and consistency i am able to make it and is hoping to increase it further. We work with different gov offices like fbr, customs and PRA. There attitude is pathetic that is why we have to work middle men and pay him commission. Moreover i m not able to adjust in this environment. The school system is pathetic. I don't like private schools and how they are looting middle class parents. Same is with Doctors. One of my friend who have well established textile business got their mother admitted to one very famous hospital in DHa lahore. Doctors almost killed her mother just to make more money. For very minor issue they paid around 2 million rs to different Private Doctors. And 3 to 4 operations without even doing ct scan. I luv my kids and would never like them to grow in this environment...

From overwhelming amounts of bad experience: Generational abuse, damages, corruption, delusion, speaking and acting with certainty, even indisputable while other possibilities exist - creating more and more conflict and damages and time being wasted, is life in Canada. Canada has a very high cost of living. In Toronto or Vancouver,$1800/month rent for an average apartment, houses are at least $750,000 in a decent area. Cellphone and internet rates are among highest in world. Groceries and alcohol are expensive compared to US and UK. Extreme cold weather 5 months a year even in southern cities like Toronto. Spotty transit service compared to European and Asian cities. Much of the country is undeveloped because of extreme weather. Most Canadians live within 60 miles of the USA border.\n\nAdvantages of Canada : it is reasonably rich and technologically advanced. Free and democratic although not like the USA. In Mexico, Mexican landlords would rather rent to Americans and Canadians than to other Mexicans, their waiters would rather wait on foreigners, and their cabbies will turn down five locals in hopes of getting a gringo passenger. Profiling is based on the accuracy of the statistical probability of incidence. Instead of being offended, be realistic. People have every right (and reason) to be reserved or suspicious for whatever reason they choose. Prove them wrong (without whining and/or rioting) if you want it to stop.

Psychology student here. In the interest of accurate information, I would like to point out some flaws I find with some of the studies in this documentary and question the conclusions reached. I understand that CBC Marketplace are not personality psychologists and therefore cannot be expected to produce the same quality of work as a scientist. However, I think it is worthwhile to think critically about the information in the media that we consume. I am also open to anyone who wants to engage in debating the contents of this documentary.\n\n\nThe following are some notes I took while watching the documentary outlining the individual hypotheses of the studies I think are flawed and descriptions of their respective accompanying errors. \n\n\nThere are three possible research questions, and thereby dependent variables, being answered by the apartment hunting studies.\n1. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \n \n2. If there is no discrimination between the white man and the first-nations man between Toronto, Montreal, Regina, and Victoria, then they should get equal treatment, including quotes and availability, when apartment hunting. \na. Could total apartments visited be a confounding variable? (4 in Toronto, 3 in Montreal, Regina, and Victoria) \nb. Could the gender of the landlord be a confounding variable (perhaps men are more discriminatory than women)? \nc. They only showed the black man apartment hunting in some of the trials. I am considering him out of the study for consistency purposes. The first-nations man is the only one who got unfair treatment in the footage of apartment hunting. \n \n3. Possible hypothesis: If male landlords/agents are more discriminatory than female landlords/agents, then the white man and the first-nations man will get different treatment at different Canadian apartments in equally diverse cities. \na. Don’t know all the information about the genders of the landlords/agents, not all the footage is shown, but the ones where they get ripped off are male. The others shown are female. The remaining interactions are not shown.\n\n\nThere are also some factors that may have influenced the racial bias survey and, in my estimation, rendered it scientifically unreliable.\n\n\n1. The bias survey and accompanying tests at the CBC attributed the differences between the studies to unconscious racism. What if it was just due to familiarity with certain racial groups over others? \na. The black participants had no bias between European-American and African Americans, supposedly indicating no racism, while the white and first-nations participants did, supposedly indicating racism. Is it possible that another interpretation of this result is that bias is a function of familiarity: that we are comfortable with the majority demographic in the geographical location we live in, as well as our own kind. Therefore, the black guys are less biased against black people due to being both black and living in a white majority demographic? \nb. The participants took the survey knowing the objectives of the researchers was to study racial discrimination. They might have influenced the answers they gave \nc. Whether the participants agreed with identity politics or not was a confounding factor that was not controlled . You can only be racially unbiased biased if you think that racial identity is a means of accurately viewing the world. People who do not believe in the existence of identity politics may answer the questions quite differently, which could be a different reason for the results.\nd. I took the study myself. The words that participants were required to match were a mix of adjectives and nouns. It is known within psychology that nouns have higher levels of imagery. This was not properly controlled and therefore is another confounding variable. \n \nAll the other studies looked fine to me. I welcome any discussion on my observations.
