It's SMH. It's been a harsh few years. People acting like it's Toronto's fault cuz it got affected by the pandemic and it's fallout is just silly. Blaming a city for global problems is just blatent self-centerness. If there's one valid criticism of Toronto it's how vapid some of the people who grew up here really are. Something happens to everyone and they still find a way to make it all about themselves.

Sounds like it's the right decision for you two! I'm really glad that Canada doesn't have public call to prayer for a minority group, 5 times a day. That would drive everyone else insane.

Whatever you do I don't recommend Turkey, my family tried to move there from the US (as non Turks). It is enticing at the beginning since its a Muslim country with decent infrastructure, and we had nice experiences visiting there, but for moving a family there it's a whole different struggle. Turkey is a homogenous society, and it turns out you can't really just insert yourself into a new land you have no ancestral, lingual, or cultural connection to. We could not integrate and employment opportunities were minimal for non turks. I recommend you either move to your country of ancestry, because you have a legitimacy and connection there lingually and culturally, or you could temporarily move to an expat friendly country like Qatar or something (I don't say UAE because its a consumeristic immoral dump). If you are Arabic speakers you can also consider other Arabic speaking countries like Lebanon, Morocco, etc.

I would hope you could find happiness in Canada. One of my concerns about living in a theocratic country would always be, is this choice really your own? Can you ever be certain, if faced with violations of your rights, that the choice is really yours? And, if not, can you consider yourselves as choosing Islam, rather than being forced into it, even if in absence of theocratic rule, you would have chosen it anyways? Maybe I’m overthinking it. I have the tendency to do that. I think if I were Muslim, I might choose Tunisia. I’ve known people from Tunisia and it sounds like they’re pretty open-minded, but still obviously predominantly Muslim. I’ve been to Dubai, and while I see many people recommending it, I honestly thought it was the worst combination of East and West. All the commercialization of the West, but none of the democracy. Plus, if you are not native Emiratis, you will always be second class. I’m from the US in what I think is the mini-Canada (ok, the Twin Cities) and we have a big Muslim community, but I’m very concerned Trump will win again in 2024, and I don’t know what will come of it. My daughter is part Afghani, but raised Catholic because her father’s side is irreligious. But I still worry for her, looking like she does and carrying that last name. People are so awful.

You seem like such awesome people, but I really can't align with your religion or any other religion. Canada is a secular country. Religion is a secondary private matter, up to you. I don't agree with religion, but I'm not free to restrict it.

I really like you guys... even though I'm not a big fan of islam. I think you are making a very wise decision to move to an islamic nation. So you can feel free to raise your children and worship how you want. I would probably choose Dubai as the opportunities are endless there. Good Luck. Inshallah frens!

Most countries have been shaped by a religious foundation. Muslims don't really fit in Christian countries; Christians are too polite (usually) to say anything, but you are very different. There is nothing wrong with finding like-minded people to move toward your own happiness. Good luck to you!

Big cities in Canada actually aren't higher in crime. The worst crime is probably western small towns. But even really nice cities like Fredericton NB have far higher crime than Toronto does. This may be changing fast enough that we will see a change, but Toronto is almost an outlier in the world on crime rates. So Pickering is an A- on crime. Fredericton is an F. You would never guess it walking around. Though the same report says Pickering is a D- on health, while Fredericton is an A-, which is ridiculous because you can't get a doctor in Fredericton, unless there is one in the family. So maybe the stats are bogus.

Those countries you mentioned have Azan and use symbolic ways while they literal slaves from India. A country like Canada might not symbolically showcase holiness, but in practice, at least they don't take your passport away and take you hostage. I think action speaks louder than pretension. I think this religion thing has very negative impacts especially as each group both Christians, Muslims, and Jews believe they are the chosen people and the ticket to better life is sold thru their citizenship of hevean program. Perspective really helps.

Hope you get your home in an Islamic country in the middle east. I really do not like the mixing of different cultures and more when Islamic people are so fundamentalist in their belief and lack tolerance to other people freedom. I respect that your intentions are pure and you want the best for your children. I’m an Australian convert and have lived in Pakistan and Saudi also. There were positive and negative in all 3 of those places but by far feel that Australia is the best place to raise children. In Pakistan, twice while wearing full black abaya and hijab I had men try to grope me. I have a teen daughter and she enjoys certain levels of freedom here but I wouldn’t let her walk out of the house in Pakistan. Saudi was safer than Pakistan but had its own issues. You likely won’t agree with all the governmental decisions in any country you go to. I don’t agree with the government decisions of any of the 3 countries I mentioned above, if that’s a reason to leave a country then it’ll be a problem everywhere. Sorry it’s counter to your point but just sharing my experience. The grass isn’t greener. Oh and one other thing o noticed, in these countries your kids witness “Muslims” doing terrible things and it’s really difficult to explain.

This is my 13th year in Canada, I am so sad to see the change, I really hope it will become a better country again with Trudeau stepping down. But we also have to be fair that there are not many countries become better since COVID. Many of you leaving or planning to leave Canada are more like rich country retirees taking advantage of the wage and currency differences between rich and poor countries. So let’s put it this way, if many of you have not worked your whole life here in Canada, will you still have a quality of life in your home countries, such as Southeast Asia or South America? I doubt majority of the population there is make a good money and having great work life balance, and everyone there could afford a decent retirement life. what is more close to nowadays reality is people coming here and hoping they could have a better paid job and settle down here, but most of them found out they are struggling to even maintain their normal life in this country, so they left. For those who came years ago, they made a saving which may not be enough to support a good retirement life here, but is more than enough in other countries, they also choose to flee. Then those successful immigrants will stay here with the option to travel anywhere they want. My son's classmate's grandfather immigrated to Canada long time ago who later become a well known cardiologist and was rewarded as one of the top 25 immigrants Award, all three daughters are now specialists too. I really hope Canada could rise again!

I hope it worked out for you man… as a Canadian, I can say that as much as Canadians love to pretend like we’re super open and welcoming, that’s largely not the case. I’ve witnessed some really disgusting treatment of immigrants first hand, and I have a lot of friends/ coworkers who are immigrants from Latin America and the Middle East, and I’ve heard a lot from them about the micro aggressions that they get from Canadians everyday, the dirty looks they get when speaking their native languages in public, and the immense pressure to assimilate. What you were saying about feeling like you’re always reminded that you’re an outsider in Australia, I also hear that a lot from immigrants here in Canada… I hope that Canada can be a better place for you, and you can feel more at home here, but the u fortunate truth is that the idea that Canadians just welcome immigrants with open arms and that everyone is welcome here is largely a myth… a lot of Canadians unfortunately are just xenophobic, racist, nationalistic dickheads and they’re not shy about it

I feel like government and cities were really complacent with the incredible speed at which the real estate price has been increasing for the last decade. They were complacent because it benefited them with higher property taxes. However, this very short term view by the government had led to a social crisis. Who the fuck can afford apartments at 3000$/month. There is no solution but to crash the real estate market but this will also lead to a worse social crisis.

Shuttle between HKG, USA , Toronto/Canada and Shanghait/China It seems your 10 points cover pretty well about the subject. \n\nHere I have some experiencese to share about the OHIP. yse. it is free system for us. However, the quality is rather inferior to HKG or even in Maindland China. The Dentistry is not free, by the way. and other specialist, such as Protates (Yes, for aged man like me ), the quality (cure results) are really 2 levels down. To my disappoiment. \n\nThe Taxes and service charge make up the bill almost 30% extrate, while in in NY State, it could be half of it. \n\nTThe Canada now is NOT a country, it is another state of America, Canada has been administrated as a genocide government but it keeps barking on the world about others but seldom think about herself of all the wrong doings. Canada would be great if the left wing wasn't obsessed with identity and race. When you have the identity the left wing hates and blames for everything you don't really like them or want to be around them. Yeah job security is an important factor I think those of us who are in IT and have been 'sacked' as someone here in another comment mentioned feel the brunt when you know that Canadian companies are looking elsewhere for cheaper labor. I think it's after something like this happens when you really think about things such as Unions and the seemingly open door to qualified immigrants who would take a lower paid job just to get a foot in the door. Hey, it happened to me many years ago so why would it be different. Interesting times indeed.

My parents immigrated to Canada from Romania when I was nine and I have lived there for 20 years. I can’t remember ever really liking it, but I was made to believe that I was so lucky to be living there but always felt like it wasn’t the place for me. I just couldn’t find any other country where I actually felt good until a Moroccan friend convinced me to visit his country and I fell in love! I think from the moment I started planning my trip there I had already fallen in love with the country! For four years I kept going back until I finally had the courage to settle there! It’s been almost 7 years and I still love it as much as in the beginning (with all its pros and cons, because obviously there are also plenty of cons like in every other country, but the beauty and the people’s kindness and warmth far outweigh any of them:)

Hi Alina, If you can stand the quietness, relaxed lifestyle, cold weather , cheaper rent, and friendly people, live in the maritimes, Manitoba or Saskatchewan. There is a share of rude people (more like drivers)in Calgary and Toronto. Both are still considered fast-paced!\nPeople in Calgary used to be very friendly in the 90s, not as friendly anymore! No where in Canada is perfect though.\nI will really choose Lethbridge and Medicine Hat over Calgary or Edmonton. Calgary is getting more busy and people more in a rush!

sadly in less than 4 years our country has declined at a rate I feel like isn't really seen in any other western country. Canada about 20 years ago and before that actually use to be a really nice place to live in. However Canadians voted in two disastrous political leaders that have ruined Canada. Stephen Harper and especially Canada has really gone downhill under the disastrous,evil, incompetent leadership of Justin Trudeau. Moral of the story is this. Where ever you are in the world choose your political leaders wisely otherwise if you choose poorly once great place to live in like Canada once was can be turned into a hellhole by terrible political leaders and their underlings..

I really dislike Canada now because it is so segregated and overly progressive. A large portion of Chinese and Indians are not a fabric of society and are outsiders in their own ethnic enclaves. I already left, and so are many fellow Canadians like me. If you want immigration you need a cood down period so that these immigrants learn to adapt to the culture first rather than allowing these communities to become the new Canada.

16:40, speaking of making friends. I saw this video once from a girl on YT and she is German. She had this theory about how people behave in the US (and in Canada by extension, from my experience) and how they behave in Germany and in Europe I would say, in general. People in North America are like peaches (soft on the outside but really hard on the inside, meaning that they seem friendly, but when it comes to knowing them better, they don't let too much of their personal life). People in Europe are like coconuts (hard on the outside, but soft on the inside, meaning that they would seem inaccessible at a first glance, but if you spend more time with them, they will become very warm towards you and they can be very loyal friends).

I went to Canada to study at Seneca college, long story short it was a ripoff.\n\nAlso the freaking winters are super harsh for students that don’t have a car. I am indonesian, but i’ve lived in Japan and the US for study purpose, and i relate to your experience. Eventhough i had a strong moslem community when i was in Japan/US, and halal food was accessible there, i was still feeling uncomfortable that as a moslem i couldn’t express my identity freely. Whenever i wanted to go for a roadtrip or place outside of my city, i need to search if halal food was available in there or not, while in Indonesia i don’t have to worry about halal food, almost all food are halal, the restaurant usually inform us if their are not halal. Another experience is that in non-moslem country, they didn’t provide many prayer rooms or mosques, that’s also sickening for me. I mean i don’t mind to pray in a random parking lot, or in a park, or in an emergency stairs, or in changing room in mall, or any random places; but i really missed my country where prayer room is available anywhere, you can find prayer room in gas station, in a restaurant, in the mall, in airport/bus station/train station, etc. Also mosques are everywhere too. You are easily going to find mosque after walking around 200m, well yeah there is a reason why Indonesia is a country with the most number of mosques in the world. Another thing is islamic class. When i was in Japan, i could only join an islamic class where people gather to listen from syeikh (or we call it as “pengajian”) once in every other months, in the US was better, mosque in mu place held islamic class every other day. However, in Indonesia, islamic classes are everywhere, it’s like every mosque held their own class, until to the point that i am confused what should i follow because there are so many options ?. The last is that, in moslem country or at least in my country, finding moslems outfit is very easy. So yeah, overall, i prefer to live in moslem countries. Alhamdulillah i was born in moslem country, and alhamdulillah my country’s situasion, eventho not perfect, is peacefull.

wtf is the canadian way really?\nbecause anyone working in IT as software developers follow the same standards and procedures. i would imagine so with healthcare and a lot of other industries.\n\nthis is such bullshit because work is standardized for the most part. i would argue most of IT work actually goes to asia and they are far more experienced than your average western country if not for immigration.\n\nmeanwhile, they let anyone in culturally. they gave a full house to an afghan terrorist. diwali has more fireworks than new years. christmas was hushed down because of those weird-ass pro palestianian protestors that should be protesting in israel rather than anywhere else.\n\nit's all clearly just a scammy way of luring people in when canada has barely any productive value. they stifled their own gas and lumber industries because muh carbon. they got no IT game. their healthcare infrastructure is weak. all they have is land and real estate runs out fast if you don't develop your country.\nwhy do you think only 2 of their cities are populated and overly expensive. it's because nowhere else is livable by the rest of the world's stanards.\nand even with all of this. a country with barely any productivity. their currency is somehow still valued far more than countries that do produce massive amounts of value like japan or even the leading south east asian countries.\nyou can thank the IMF and world bank for that. those are institutions established to maintain white countries wealth.

I read an article recently that Canada is running their immigration like a shady fly by night credit card company. It doesn't matter to them about honoring the terms as long as they can get enough people to sign up. But soon enough (and it's starting to happen) word is going to get out that it's not really that great and the number of people signing on is going to plummet.\nThe Canadian government doesn't care about the immigrants as people, all they are is numbers to keep our overall GDP propped up, meanwhile per capita GDP is in a freefall.

I make more than twice the average annual income in Canada. I still struggle to save despite not spending on nice things or taking vacations. Car Insurance costs are higher than the US. Healthcare situation is horrifyingly bad. Groceries are 15% higher. Childcare costs are higher if you are even lucky to find a spot in one. Cars cost more and so does gas. Taxes are higher than the US while salaries are almost 30% lower. On top of that, you can't really claim a lot of tax credits like in the US for being married or having work related expenses. It's a punishment to live in canada these days. Unless you have inheritance from your parents, forget about ever owning a home in GTA, Ottawa, Vancouver, Montreal. There are other cities in canada too but job prospects for most educated folks are sparse and the weather is worse. Leave Canada if you can.

the Canadian experience I think this depends on your skills and qualifications. I have a number of IT friends who are now in Canada and they were able to find a job in a month without Canadian experience. So I believe it really depends, if you are are a doctor, nurse, even flight attendant probably they will look for that Canadian experience...so to make it short, are you planning to go back to Singapore? I am currently working here in Singapore and getting like more than 10grand a month but it is boring here. In Canada surely I will be able to drive and go to different beautiful places and it is near to US and Europe if you wanna travel. Here, wherever you go here seems like the place is just the same and cost of living here I believe its more expensive compare to Canada. Rentals here for a 3 bedroom reaching 4k a month and so on. So with these are you planning to go back to Singapore???

Sorry, I still love Canada, look at what is going on around the world, and quite fine to be here, Most industrialized countries are expensive to live in, no matter where you’re at today, inflation, high accommodation rates, and food increases, are everywhere. Maybe we’re just lucky, but our healthcare around us is quite good, and when I compare to what people pay in the United States for healthcare premiums for average to decent healthcare. It’s a bargain. Never understand people crying about the weather who immigrate here, for Gosh sakes, you moved to a northern climate. What do you expect? Do you really expect the world climate to change for you and to be more like the southern hemisphere country you came from? Weather doesn’t work that way. Why did people leave their original country if they were just so wonderful in the first place? A ton of political instability where they came from and few jobs.

I think if you feel uncomfortable then you should be in a place where you feel comfortable. That's really important. As a person who lives a very different life i feel that canada is a place i would like to live
