Unless you plan to live in a very impoverished, run-down, and dangerous area. In a “good” suburb, not great, you’re looking at $686K - $749K. Most are now selling between $812K - $1M. I’m sorry my friend, those stats are a mirage. They blend in cheap apartments in Edmonton into those stats. For petroleum engineering, congrats for finishing those studies, but it’s been a long-standing political battle in Canada; Albert vs. Ontario on this issue. The current liberal government is openly trying to destroy the industry you’re in and you will struggle immensely to find work.

GDP from real estate is never a safe way to earn in the long run when u have decreasing manufacturing and small businesses. If people aren't making enough money from their job, how are they going to spend on houses? One doesn't need to be an economist to realize such a simple truth. Canada's housing market is a timing bomb with surplus supply and limited demand. New condos built in the last 5 years would have 1/3 rented out if they are lucky and there's no stopping of new constructions in the near future. Apartments are getting built up left & right, as far as I see in both Toronto & Montreal and their suburbs. In 2020 the price of a single bedroom in Longui.... Long-island just over the navigation channel from Montreal sold for $ 110,000, with a maintenance fee of just $ 250 monthly, which includes hydro (electric power) and electric heating, insurance on shared parts, a generous underground parking large for 2 small cars or a large car & motorcycle, indoor heated pool, gym, sauna.... and that large bedroom some have split in two because why not!\nSure, the same thing sells nowadays for double, but as new developments go up, the price HAS TO come down. I locked in the rent so I'm somewhat insulated, but high rents are a huge drag on the economy. Those Have To be pulled back too, or immigrants will go for friendlier shores. If cheap housing isn't available, there's No Cheap Labor to be had, and North America was Built on Cheap labor (as far as the people already here were concerned; in relation with the usual wage in immigrants' homeland, it was a really good deal).

Housing speculation is one of the greatest misallocations of capital ever in Canada. People are being rewarded as their home prices increase while literally contributing nothing to the economy. What product was made? What innovation or increase in quality of life was there? Landlords and employers are exploiting immigrants for rent and cheap labor. The government is happy to go along with record immigration as long as tax revenue is increasing.

I came to Canada 2months back with a job with an above average salary but already figured I can't stay here for too long as it's not a place to settle down unless you are a factory/construction labour. It's a beautiful beautiful country with so many amazing people. But people who are running this country are not passionate or caring about Canada rather to their capitalist masters. For every problem I hear that it's not clear whose responsibility it is, fed, state or city or district etc. If you love Canada why would it be so difficult to figure that out as it is not a country created 2 years back. And housing prices can't be fixed till a decade at least, as you can't expect to devalue the assets by half suddenly, so you have to wait till the inflation normalizes it.

Build towns that are surrounded by walls give them a small space to live and build factories. Allow these people to have a small check and live and work in those small cities say in the middle of nowhere. Make them work for 1 year in those places and as long as they do good not crime and show up for work and take care of there living space then allow them to become citizens. That way you weed out the criminals and non hard workers. In 1 year you will have a good idea of who should be staying. Also its them paying for there spot and contributing to the us economy. Once they become contributing members of society and they get on there feet out of each check they will take a small amount to pay for all the resources that were used to help them. Also I belive the majority of the ones let in should be women and the young children. If I don't get free help working full time struggling they shouldn't either. Let's make america a manufacturing power house like we're were in the past and the only reason we are a super power now. Also do the same thing for criminals and the homeless teach them worth ethic and how to follow laws instead of giving them handouts to go buy more dope

it's funny I moved to Canada a little over a year ago and I want to move back to Australia for some of the reasons you want to leave Australia and more. Housing affordability here is a pipe dream unless you like living near mountains and want a laid back life like the life in Perth, in Calgary. But Calgary's job market is not great and that pretty much extends to every province except Ontario and BC. Living cost in Canada is very high... compared to what I experienced in AU, this is more expensive than living in Sydney. (I live in Toronto but this extends to Vancouver as well.) The healthcare system is weak, inefficient and inconvenient. Bureaucracy is again very slow, inconvenient and in some cases so backwards. Banking is not great, super inconvenient, not people-centric, inefficient and very much backward imo.. work-life balance or quality of life is way better in AU. Infrastructure development is slow and not great at all for a world-class country and personally, I expected better from Toronto.. (I do understand why it is the way it is right now, some justified reasons but some not so much) Things I do give props to CA... Diversity and inclusiveness is not just marketing slogan like in AU.. I don't feel like an outsider here... Its incredible. Job market is here much better than in AU. If you're moving from a country like AU, you will feel how capitalism here is made to make more money out of you every step of the way. But also, you will see how you can use that system to make alot of money. I think Canada is a great place to live if you're an entrepreneur or business person and making money is a primary requirement. But if you're someone who loves quality of life and work-life balance and want to probably own a good house, right now CA is not there. Also this doesn't mean CA isn't great, its fantastic... but compared to AU, canada comes short in many fronts. Also I love the weather here even if we have a pretty long winter.

It never used to be as long as this in the UK, it is because it is congested now, when I came the UK, I came as a student and getting a permanent stay wasn’t as tough as now. You just come without obtaining visa as a visitor. Canada will become like the UK after sometime, for now they want it to be like the UK in terms of being a multicultural and multinational community. As for Scotland they are trying to encourage people to come and settle there.

I'm a Canadian citizen I came legally under Federal Skilled worker pathway. I had cancer and recently lost my eyesight due to slip and fall. I sponsored my nephew 2021 as I am alone in Canada. But as a taxpayer, it hurts ?why does it take too long for immigration to consider its own citizens. My nephew had his medicals in August 2022 and nothing from immigration up to now. They prioritize Ukraine and Syria over taxpayers citizens. Too unorganized and fake. Pretending to help people at war and calamities from other countries neglecting its own people who contribute to economy.?

Here’s an idea…how about we take the billions of dollars in weaponry that we’re giving the corrupt Ukrainian military to fight a war they won’t be able to win in the long run and give it to these people so they can take their own country back?

As a 21 year old who's lived in the UK for a year I miss how down to earth and genuine people are. Of course it's a generalization but when you find decent people this tends to be true. They're more open and not bothered by long conversations which I feel like is impossible to have with people my own age here in Toronto and this makes me feel very depressed and isolated. My European friends and I used to go for walks together and you easily lose track of time together, next thing you know you've been walking and chatting for 3 hours ?.

On the issue of job opportunities in Canada, the Canadian experience is a thing of the past. Most people now got jobs in Canada as soon as they arrived here in Canada. As long as you can prove yourself, there are no worries.
