I am born and rasied in Toronto and I would have to say what is happening now in this city is do to the covid fallout. Toronto has always had higher rent then most Canadian cities but I think with the loss of jobs and and the rise in cost of living all over Canada due to covid I would say that Toronto is going through some hard times like everywhere eles in Canda. Unfortunately because it is the bigest city alot of people have moved here in the hope of a better life. I have noticed a rise in drug use but have not noticed a rise in violent crime. They do say that the TTC is got worse...Hard to say as I take the TTC every day across the city and have not noticed any diferance other then more and more people are useing it again. During covid the subway was empty and now all these people that have never used it before are having to learn how it all works and subway edict. I think media is making the subway seem worse then it is. To me it has not changed. I do agree the real problem is dealing with homeless that was more hiden but now is out in the open. Funding from all levels of goverment needs to help all big canadain cites more. I think Toronto will come back again to what it was pre-covid. Hopfully soon!!

According to statistics Canada Vancouver( Surrey ) and Toronto ( Brampton, Hamilton, London, Ste Catherines, Oshawa etc ) are the top most dangerous cities ( high crimes ) in Canada . I live in Canada I recently visited my hometown. When I grew up there was maybe a handful of homeless on some of the downtown streets but now it’s over run with homeless and drug addicts. New immigrants from India, China and Middle East pool their money together with friends and family and rent apartments. 2-3 families will cram into a small infested apartment

The fact that Tyler is surprised at how many people bring up school shootings as a reason to stay away from the US is a scary indication of how much this type of violence has become normalized. I'm Canadian and throughout my professional life I've spent time working in the US. In fairness, I've met some truly great people. Also in fairness, religion seeps into US politics in ways that it never does in Canada and never in a good way. Christian fundamentalism is a scary reality of US life intent as it is on heaping hate on sexual minorities and taking away rights wherever they are allowed to. An additional point, but this one is only an irritant, is how ignorant so many Americans are about the world. At any rate, I'm retired and live with advanced kidney disease and a pacemaker. For those reasons alone I couldn't afford to live in the US. Thankfully, my country takes good care of me and my provincial government (Québec) even covers most of the cost of my expensive prescription drugs.

And, here I am not knowing why I immigrated to Canada from India amid this chaos, but, I feel safe and secure that I atleast have an option to return back to my home country and live a peaceful and fulfilling life whereas these people who are born Canadians have no choice and have to suffer. It's pity what their own people and government did to them. Also, why are the youth so much into drugs and bad habits??? I mean, it is not good when the younger population instead of investing their time and energy in the better of the society have to do such horrible acts to further increase the homelessness.

from what i heard both canada and portugal have legalized drug-use to a pretty extent. but i heard that it was good in portugal (addicts are decriminalized and thus able to lead a regular life) and bad stuff about canada (homeless fentanyl zombies). as someone who has been at both places, could you please give your subjective take?

I'm not sue what most of you are talking about Canada being safe ?? Gang shootings and killings everyday , car jackings. There are homeless camps everywhere. All the rest stops along hwy 1 in BC are full of people living in rv's and trailers, drug use everywhere. Our health care is free because its terrible. Every hospital is badly understaffed, patients have their beds in hallways. If you want anything done quickly you have to pay and get it done privately anyways. Oh cant forget our taxes. Gotta love the made up carbon tax. I pay 52% income tax. Food and gas prices are way higher because of all our tax. And last but not least real estate and rent cost. Average detached house in the greater Vancouver area is almost 1.3 million dollars and the average rent for a 2 bedroom in Vancouver is $3900. I was born and raised here this is not the same country I grew up in and was a proud citizen of. Our country has fallen.

I had to sell my condo because of all the drug addict population increasing in my neighborhood downtown and the government put some injection sites all around downtown Toronto ; it has become disgusting and dangerous because all those people just trash everything they touch and wherever they go, and then because I didn't agree with all the discrimination taxes and xenophobia from the government's part. I am glad I was able to get the hell out before the total collapse of the economy and real estate prices and I don't regret it 1 minute. Canada sucks really.

Thanks for the very informative video. I just got back from a week in Vancouver and saw so many drug addicts and homeless people when I drove through East Vancouver on my way to Gastown. Years ago when I drove this same area, I didnt see this problem. What the heck happened? Is the U.S. rubbing off in Canada. Crime, drugs, homeless people, and criminals seem to have migrated from the U.S. to Canada. Anyway, I was contemplating buying a house in Coaquitlam and retiring there for 6 months out if every year. Now, my eyes are open to what it would really be like. Still better than the U.S., crime wise, but the prices are high. Gas equivalent was $7.50 PER gallon. Food was more. Walmart was more. Starting January 1, 2023 no foreigner can buy property in Canada for 2 years.

Yes, it could happen. We are a multi racial black/brown/Euro decent family in Canada. There are giant pot holes in the Canadian health care system for us as we are often not believed or assumed to be drunks or drug-heads. We know similar families who HAD to take work in America (with benefits) FOR the health care, the doctors were less likely to gatekeeper care when it was paid for. Also those who moved to New Jersey, Missouri, Wisconsin found much more racially inclusive communities (seemingly largely due to just a bigger population of different people so no one really sticks out)

No matter what kind of insurance you have, you still have to deal with a stupid amount of red tape and bureaucracy just to get your care covered, and the drug prices are out of control. and you have no idea when that horrible health issue is going to happen to you. In Canada, I go to the doctor, I give my health card, done deal. The healthcare system in Ontario particularly is under attack and they're trying to privatize hospital care by underfunding everything else. But our premier is also a Conservative Trump Lite wannabe who is buddy buddy with a lot of rich folks.There are absolutely problems here, Canada is dysfunctional in a lot of ways. But I would NEVER move to the states, definitely not as a disabled/chronically ill woman. Hell no. Also--we're not THAT nice, Americans are always surprised at how much Canadians dislike the USA. Oh, hell no! And further to that, if I was visiting the US and got sick enough that I might need a hospital, I would do my damnedest to get back to Canada. I have heard Americans say that the healthcare is very good, as long as you have money. But I don’t trust it because Americans have been brainwashed to believe that the US is exceptional in every way (sorry guys, but it’s extremely obvious to the rest of the world), yet I have heard too many stories about things like people picking up C. Diff or other drug-resistant infections in hospitals there.\n\nI spent about two weeks in the hospital in February. You know what it cost me? Absolutely nothing. Well, I did have to pay for taking an ambulance later. But the hospital stay itself cost me nothing. Neither did the food they fed me in there, or the medication they gave me.\n\nMayyyybe if you guys got universal health care (it shouldn’t be tied to your job), and stopped shooting each other so much. We have McDonalds and Starbucks here in Canada, even in small towns PLUS we have Tim Hortons everywhere! I have lived in both countries and much prefer Canada. The very idea of another Trump presidency makes me literally ill. In Alberta our healthcare is free, no monthly payment and there is affordable drug coverage both through private and provincial government provided. The Canadian education system is far superior.

I am retired and my health issues won't allow me to. I don't have employer insurance or even private insurance any more, But I feel I am getting the best care I can get. I see my family doctor regularly every 3-4 months. My prescription drugs are covered, I get grants for my medical conditions. Also with the crime rate, mass murders, and the dangerous political divisions in the country, I have no reason to move to the US. I just feel safer in Canada. Not to mention the corrupt Supreme Court that is impacting on people's lives by taking away rights that people fought for years to obtain.

It depends upon where in the US. You couldn't pay me enough to move to CA, NY, or IL. However, if I had a job offer and could get a green card, I would move to FL or TX in a heartbeat. My friend and his wife have been looking at houses in FL near Tampa. They are almost half the price of what they are in London, ON. As far as shootings, these people forget about the shootings and stabings in Canada. A mother of two was shot in what some think may have been a turf fight between two drug dealers, and she just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. In Vancouver, a father was stabbed to death in front of his family at an outdoor cafe. At least in the US, you can protect yourself. In Canada it is illegal to have mace, or pepper spray, let alone carry a gun around.

I'm a Canadian from Toronto that's been living in Boston for the past 4 years. Love the city - probably the most underrated in North America. The people here are friendly (not polite, but friendly), and I've generally enjoyed living here. Having said all of that, I'm moving back to Canada in a week. There are some major benefits to living in Boston over Toronto - the pay is significantly higher for the same job, the city is beautiful, and the weather is much better. My wife has enjoyed her time here less, as there are some subtle cultural differences here with misogyny (men in professional settings always touching her inappropriately, she's been drugged at bars several times, and she is treated poorly by many men). Things that were unthinkable in Toronto. Add the slow deterioration of women's rights in this country, and the general situation with healthcare, and its become a rather unwelcoming place for someone used to Canadian culture.

Some of this happens in Canada but in tiny doses and that's the way I like it. California use to be beautiful now it's a ghetto. I used to love going down, but I stay home now and plan on traveling to Europe.

I'm Canadian and lived in Maryland for 8 years....I would not move back to the states for any reason. In Maryland I experienced fights resulting in reconstructive surgery for someone involved, a bomb threat, swat lock down with drug and firearm dogs, a gang fight in my school, a full blown riot in school AND someone being stabbed less than 5 feet from me....in Canada I experienced a someone being stabbed less than 5 feet from me as well....that being said I would border hop to shop but move??? Thats a hard pass. Especially now that I have children (1 of who has a chronic illness) I would never.

There are so many scary things about the US right now. Drugs, crime, mass murders, accessibility to healthcare, terrorism, racial hate crimes, etc. The list is quite long. Not everyone is affected by all of these things (knock on wood). One thing that is disgusting is politics. It is not dangerous per se as the aforementioned so it is probably not fair to say it as a justification against moving to the US. However, it is very commonplace in the US, and it is very annoying. Politics is extremely toxic, aggressive, and divisive right now. One wrong comment out of your mouth in public, and people will be ready to fight you. Or on the flip side, you hear one wrong comment in public, it is best to bite your tongue. \n\nPolitics in the US was not always intolerable. It has always been a strong subject of discussion since forever. However, it became disgusting and overly obnoxious ever since Trump came into the scene. I think his elitist personality gave his supporters a green light to be more vocal about their own divisiveness. Combine that with social media, and you have a recipe for disaster... so much hate, divisiveness, and willingness to not bite one's tongue right now in the States. American politics is really overbearing. And monkey see and monkey do... it will leak into Canada. I guarantee it.

Sorry Tyler, but given the current social and political environment in the USA I do not want to visit the country and definitely never move there.\n\nThe challenge for me is the realization that Canada was built on community, while I see many (too many) Americans fiercely independent and not seemingly caring about anyone but themselves. \n\nCanada IS NOT PERFECT. We are so litigious (side eye to John Edwards ) that doctors practice defensive medicine and carry high limit malpractice insurance (guess who pays for that?). Every decision is driven by avoiding lawsuits, not proper patient care.\n\nPost Obamacare, US health care is an unmitigated disaster at every level. We’re short on doctors, too. Many quit and students are losing interest—medicine won’t pay enough anymore to justify $500K in loans.\n\nWe could repeal every bit of Obamacare tomorrow and still not be able to fix it. The leviathan grew tentacles that released toxins into every nook and cranny of the system. Do we even need to talk about it?\n\nHousing crisis? Prices were already too high when the regime (predictably) created runaway inflation and we saw the end of affordable interest rates. Even 0.25% increase will knock out many buyers; they won’t be able to qualify.\n\nWe are seeing huge jumps; young people have resigned themselves to never being homeowners.\n\nRacism? Again, look to the US. It’s nothing even close to what the make believe media caterwauls about. If white supremacists are behind every tree, where is the evidence? Surely, in 2023 has caught a cell phone video, right? Where are the videos? Show me the proof. There is plenty of footage of BLM destroying property and injuring, even murdering innocents. If we gripe about this behavior, we are raaayyyycccciiiiissssts.\n\nNo rational adult would claim that the US is not a violent country and becoming more so. Nor can we claim to have eliminated racism. That takes time; it cannot be done by force.\n\nOur economy went from smokin hot to dumpster fire in a short span of time. Pre election, head hunters were shaking the trees to find job candidates.\n\nOur unemployment is up as are our taxes with the stomping out of the tax cuts. \n\nDespite the endless sloganeering about how the Trump tax cuts only benefited “rich” people, it’s quite the opposite.\n\nHigh earners lost their pet deductions and lower income taxpayers were quite pleasantly surprised when they did their returns. The cuts were targeted to preserve wealth for the middle and lower classes.\n\nI could go on for another 100 pages but you get the idea and I get crabby writing for free.\n\nI will leave you with the caution that it’s best if you doubt and question any data and any stats coming from our government. Those are seldom legit. If the data comes from a study, always look to see who paid for it. And how large the sample size was; how were the participants selected? Lived in us for 10 years and also Canada for 7. I can 100% say that life in Canada is a whole lot better then USA. Although pay is more in USA, it’s quickly eaten up by all the expenses and trust me when I say you will spend a ton. Your entire city you live in will most likely try to eat away as much of your wallet as you can. People and going outside is just better in Canada. Usa really really sucks apart from pay, especially for kids unless you live in an expensive city. People are Riddled with hate and it’s not safe for kids to play outside because something is def out to get them. Usually it’s a car or a criminal. One thing I’ve noticed is kids in USA end up doing drugs a whole lot more, because there’s not much for the kids to do. Kids can’t spend much and can’t travel far or at all, so they resort to drugs. With my hs done in highschool, a huge majority of the schools were doing one or another sort of drug. Also I’m back in Canada because life as a student is just a whole lot better then the snaky system of USA. Both suck in their own ways though, Canada a whole lot less, plan to move out to an eastern country anywya tjough.

I assume that there are no homeless people in the US or France...How many thousands and thousands die from drugs in the US and other countries in the world.Yes,the governments should do better and find/build special housing for these people.They should set up special\nclinics in order to detoxify these drug addicts.The problem is that people don't want to have these clinics in their neighbourhood because they are afraid of fights,their houses will go down\nin value and so on.I saw a documentary about the homeless people and I was surprised and not surprised about what they are saying.There is what they call the Old House Brewery in\nMontreal and there are about 50 beds (or more) and the homeless people can sleep,eat and shower.There are a lots of then who refuse to go to this place,some say that so people were\nmaking noises at night and they prefer to sleep under bridges ..Homeless people are everywhere in the world.DON'T FORGET THAT IT 'S ALSO THE JOB OF THE PROVINCES TO FIND\nSHELTERS FOR THESE PEOPLE...
