As a Canadian, I looked into becoming an auto mechanic. Its going to take a year of school, tuition and then, in your first year, you'll make entry level wage and have to pay $3000 in tools. You might even need a truck to haul your tools around. They keep saying how they need tradespeople in Ontario, but the licensing/ apprentice process takes so long for people to transition into. Every trade is so complicated to get involved in. There is a situation where there are willing and capable people, but the admin process is too expensive and bars people who are in need of paying groceries, rent and bills. They can't find enough millrights either. Its the same problem.\n\nYou've got a surplus of willing and capable workers and employers seeking talent, but the admin process inhibits the entire process. \n\nIf I could start apprenticing on-the-job today as a mechanic or millright I would. But, I need to support family, so instead I am working readily available joe-jobs. \n\nAll trade positions will continue to be unfilled on job posting boards, while potential candidates will be busy working low pay jobs in warehouses etc. just trying to survive. Ontario is idiotic! Back in 2014 they introduced the Ontario College of Trades which only sought to take admin fees from every conceivable profession. The old bureaucratic established people in Ontario have a way of keeping everyone as peasants and minions. This is also why people are leaving for Alberta (a wise decision).

Canadian racism exists. I moved in February from Ireland. I used to work for Google and Meta. So, yesterday I was rejected by board of directors to become a manager at the company because I’m a newcomer and not yet Canadian!!!! As a result, our manager is a high school graduate who’s been working for our company for 5 years. I’m shocked. I quit.

It is not easy to become a Canadian citizen. It would be truly unfortunate. If an immigrant went there worked hard to become a citizen and then later become disgruntled and want to leave. Born in South Vietnam and raised in Toronto for almost 44 years now I'm still here and Toronto sucks!!! It has become a ghetto! City Toronto leftists' politicians have made it into a shithole! Bike lanes are everywhere and there are not much bikers during the Winter months (something like 8 to 9 months) and summer months I saw few here and there. Rents are totally beyond many peoples affordability. Foods prices are freaking crazy. Reason why this is happening? Taking in 500 thousands new immigrants and refugees each year isn't going to be help Canada to get this mess we are in. Lower number like 150-200 thousands of new immigrants | refugees is feasible but NOT 500 thousands new immigrants and refugees.

I'm leaving because I want to start a family and Canadian women are giant zeros for starting families. I have dated too many women in this country, it's crazy, I never thought I'd be that guy but I cannot find a decent woman I'd marry here. 50% of the women are infertile or have uterus problems. 35% are on SSRI's or psyche meds. I'm only dating fit decent looking women, and the pool here isn't that big because so many women are obese and refuse to exercise or eat properly. The weather is terrible too. You have tried to explain very well the initial struggle faced by new immigrants. This does take years and sometimes decades to settle down properly in a new country for first generation. First generation Indians try to save as much as they can while cutting corners. Things have relatively become much easier as there are plenty of jobs for those who have professional degrees and substantial experience. I personally found Canadian bachelor of engineering was far superior than masters of computer science in USA. I enjoyed spending four years in downtown Toronto while full time studying in late 80’s before moving back to USA. As a Canadian who has lived in almost all the provinces and territories, all my life, I can tell you that a lot has changed as I think the best time or era was in the 1970's and you may have come at the worst time as the worst appears to be now when everything has become too expensive. The other problem relates to Canada, its size, the distances to travel, the smaller tax base with a smaller population than that of United States or India. This is not intended to provide excuses but most people here do not even have a family doctor as many doctors find greener pastures in the United States where the dollar is 30 percent higher in value and salaries are not limited to government health care. It is hard to change when American influence dictates much of what transpires. Homelessness hasn't been a problem but the last five years has provided more hardship for many who find it hard to cope with how things have become.

1) Toronto is poor value. Getting housing of any kind (buying or renting) is stupidly expensive. And the quality you get for the price is lousy. Especially the newer builds, which are just thrown up as quickly as possible and sold to investors. Policy measures generally all seem to serve to just inflate the price of housing further. The occasional lip service given to affordability is amusing, but ultimately sad. There are lots of people who really do not want the housing bubble to pop. They will fight against it with all they have.\n\n2) It has become kind of boring. There is lots to do if you have money, but it’s harder to find entertainment on a budget. Even the free stuff like parks are filling up. Stuff like sporting events, eating out, going out is very costly across the board. Even the “cheaper” stuff is expensive. It seems like a lot of local culture is disappearing. Even the cool neighbourhoods are filling up with the same chains. I think the high commercial rent and bureaucracy is deflating a lot of would-be entrepreneurs. Most landowners seem to just be banking on cashing out their land for condos.\n\n3) Canada overall has a high cost of living compared to salaries. In the US you can find lower cost of living areas that still give you a real city experience. And in Europe you can be poor but still live a decent, if no frills, life. In Canada the basic necessities are all expensive. Phone bills, grocery bills, rent, insurance are through the roof. Domestic travel is expensive. And the dollar sucks if you want to travel abroad. Health care is free but good luck finding a family doctor or waiting 8 hours in the ER these days. It’s expensive to be poor, or even middle class.\n\n4) Most of the Greater Toronto Area, outside the core, is soulless suburbs with awful transit - very “American” except with worse traffic congestion. You will need a car, which is another huge cost. Row upon row of old cookie cutter suburbs with the same crappy houses. Good luck walking anywhere, and if you do you will need to walk down boring, treeless arterial roads with cars zooming past right beside you, and cross giant eight lane intersections that were never built for humans on foot. In a rainstorm or on a fall evening you have to be really careful not to be run over by aggressive drivers.\n\n5) It is hard to raise a family in an apartment here. You can do it but it’s not very easy, and also you are still kind of judged for it. Lots of young people are feeling stuck and are deferring or avoiding starting a family. Buying any type of house, even a basic townhouse, requires pledging your soul to a bank by taking a massive mortgage with eye watering debt in a volatile market. But few apartment buildings have the kind of sensible gentle density, the family unit sizes and the common amenities, like little courtyards with jungle gyms, that you might find in Europe. No one ever contemplated that anyone would ever desire to raise kids in an apartment. It’s just a cultural thing that has worked its way into how things are planned and designed.\n\n6) The transit system is ok by North American standards but awful by international standards. There are only two real subway lines, one stub line, one line that is permanently out of service after a derailment, and another line that was supposed to open a couple years ago but still has no date for opening. The subways go out of service frequently, sometimes for the dumbest reasons, and then it is a zoo of shuttle buses. The streetcars are nice but so slow. The buses are fine if you find yourself dreaming about riding a daily herky jerky rolling tin of sardines. They are building a lot of transit but it will take decades to get done.\n\n7) There is still a lot of cool multiculturalism and opportunities to experience different foods and cultures - one of the best things about Toronto. Increasingly though it seems to be losing the fun vibe of the 90s, when everyone celebrated each other’s backgrounds and was chill. It seems the immigration is not as broad based anymore and also people are importing a lot of their “old country” grievances here. The immigration system also kind of preys on people abroad by selling them a false fairy tale, so they end up dejected when they arrive and see how things really are.\n\n8) This one might be controversial but it’s kind of an ugly city. There’s nothing particularly of historical meaning or value. Some of the older neighbourhoods are kind of nice, but the last 25 years they have only built giant glass skyboxes, one after another. There aren’t the cool “missing middle” walkups like in NY, Chicago or Montreal (or even LA). There are very few buildings with much architectural character. Some of the buildings they deem “heritage” here are an embarrassment.\n\n9) For safety, honestly on this score I think Toronto is not bad. There are not too many real “ghettos” and it’s night and day compared to much of the US. With that said, there is more vagrancy and social issues these days, with tents and such. It’s very sad but the shelters are full, lots of homeless go into the libraries, parks and transit system. It does make it harder to enjoy these public amenities safely. It is nowhere close to Europe where you might let your kids run free around town. Canadian parents still helicopter their kids and the place again is not designed to really be safe for kids, in the same way as Europe.\n\n10) Finally, a bit of a double edged sword. Toronto had a lot of youthful energy - people coming here from all over. It is definitely not as sleepy as many parts of the world. With that said, it is becoming a bit of a transient place (minus the world class experiences like London or NY). If you are from elsewhere you might find it hard making and keeping friends. I’ve seen lots of people struggle because it’s is hard to build a strong social network. We have a very “shallow” culture here - people are extremely polite but not overly warm and hospitable. We treat one another kind of like neighbours - meaning we’d like to have a cordial, drama-free coexistence and otherwise kind of stick to ourselves.

Coming from a Canadian citizen, bad government policies all around for the last 8 years is a major reason, but also Canada has become a culture of virtue signaling, leading to valuing foreign aid, migrants and refugees over its own citizens, also accommodating of oversea values and beliefs that immigrants brings into the country over its own founding values and culture.

I don’t understand our government’s obsession with increasing the population while doing everything to make Canadians poor. It seems the more people we get the worse it becomes.\nGovernment taxes us to death with carbon taxes while drastically increasing our carbon footprint with more people. Who in the hell would now want to immigrate to Canada ? Outrageous housing costs which consume most of your income . One has to work at least two to three jobs just to try to keep from completely drowning economically . A healthcare system which is on life support . It is next to impossible to get a doctor . Emergency waits times at hospitals can range from 4 to 24 hours . Traffic from hell in all of the major cities .... particularly Toronto , Montreal and Vancouver . The crushing cost of living . A political leader who is a complete fool who has basically destroyed the country in just 8 years . As if all of this wasn't bad enough ...... 5 months of winter from hell . Living in Canada is now an extreme struggle in every way imaginable . One will always struggle . One will always work like a dog . One will very likely fall into extreme debt in Canada just to survive . One has to pay outrageous taxes on their income leaving them with about 50% of what they actually earn after they have paid all of the combined taxes on everything that they buy or services that they use . Forget about ever being able to save money . Incomes are about about 35% less than other advanced than those in other advanced countries for the same skilled job . One will never own a home . One will never be able to start a family . One will always freeze in the winter . Life in Canada has become an absolute hell . The Canadian dream is as dead as dead can be . It is no longer a country where one can earn a decent living , own a home and live a good life . On top of all of this it has an authoritarian government which keeps passing new laws to reduce free speech and civil rights .

My first visit to Canada (the so called Province of Quebec) was in 1972. If you've had asked me at that time where was paradise, I'd have answered to you that it was right here in Quebec and particularly in Montreal. I spent two years and went back home in 1974. I came back five years later in 1979 with the intent of staying and I did. I've spent decades of wonderful years here, and although I will leave next year, I will still remember with nostalgia the lost best decades (70s, 80s and 90s) I'd have spent in Montreal. I will remember the most beautiful city of the world and what it has become in the years 2000 amd counting. I remember how clean and well maintained that city was; how its people were among the most polite and civilized in the World; how life was so easy and affordable; how tolerant as a society the French Canadian one was and so on. Today, all that is gone, and when I take a look at the pile of trashes and garbages on the Ste-Catherine street and Saint Laurent Boulevard, it makes feel sick. In fact, Montreal has become a huge Third World city, and it is not better on a social point of view : you can't walk one block or two without being dragged by a homosexual or a lesbian. Speaking of lesbian and homosexual, you can't keep your work if you don't support the LGBT and or willing to date your boss. I am leaving next year to go back to my country where there is still a seemingly willingness to normalcy, but since the LGBT has managed to sneak its power everywhere, I am not holding my breath of a bright future overthere, but it's my home and I prefer to be there and deal with it.

We can’t lump all immigrants into one single group. But there is one group that are admitted I find repulsive. This group have no intention whatsoever to become Canadians. That is to stay, work, raise family, integrate into Canadian culture and be contributing citizens of the country. This group would spend the minimum required time to become eligible for Citizenship, park their dependence here, utilizing all our social services, including health and education for children. The head of the family then returns to the home country to earn money without paying our taxes as they are deemed non-residents. At retirement age, these non-resident “Canadians” would return as retirees to claim our social services , including “free” healthcare. There are at last count approximately 250,000 “Canadians” in Hong Kong, I am sure there are a lot more in other countries. Whenever there are political or war trouble these people would scurry back, sometimes even demanding Ottawa to send airplanes for them.\nI don’t believe in “a Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian”. You are a Canadian only if you fulfill the responsibilies of a Citizen.

And alot of immigrants come to Canada to get that duel citizenship and then leave. Then whenever they find themselves in trouble abroad or back to thier country if birth, they conveniently become Canadian citizens again. Otherwise these people have no actual patriotic sense to Canada.

Credentialing of the educational status of the immigrants is a very big challenge. People spend good time and money to earn degrees,in other countries but all of a sudden they become zero in canada.....\nHousing has become a big gamble for Canadian policymakers, and builder mafia and the crown land...immigrants bring huge sums of money and even then cannot afford a reasonable house in canada...\n..now the new rental building plan .of the Canadian government is another challenge for the immigrants and will decrease interest of the new immigrants

Outsourcing impacted badly on Canadian citizens. Those people come on work permit, day one they've job and the one who is Canadian and the victim of outsourcing, they've to search for the job and the worst thing before leaving the job you have to trained those outsourced people, they are 90% from India who hardly speak proper English. Is it fair for Canadian? And the people on work permit they can apply for citizen after certain amount of time. With Affordability and inflation hurting my family in Ontario we are contemplating either leaving the Province or the Country altogether to either the States or Australia etc. where fortunately we have offers to work. We immigrated from the Philippines over 40 Years ago. Some of our relatives back in the the Philippines really don't understand how hard it is to live in Canada. Our cousins who in the last 10 years have Immigrated here have been working 2 jobs 7 days a week just to get by ?. I am sooo very proud to be Canadian, but Canada, specifically Ontario/ GTA, is truly becoming unaffordable to stay. It is heartbreaking to think about leaving but just to scrape by is a heavier burden ??

Canadian ruling class markets the country as a bastion of freedom and equality. We immigrated, believing in that notion . Then, slowly came to realize that that belief is false .\nTruth is, canada is a fake democracy. The capitalist ruling class possesses all the rights and power in this country, and we immigrants are not seen as equal, but are being used to keep wages low . For canada to become the country it says it is , there needs to be an expansion of true democracy, into the workplace where we spend most of our time, and where the same ruling class invests very little of there's. \nSo say no to capitalism for a better canada. And yes to real democracy!

Yes when the free benefits run out it's on to the next country for more free benefits. If you are coming to Canada you are coming to become Canadian just like the rest of us. The average Canadian is living paycheck to paycheck and don't receive any of the free benefits that newcomers receive when they come to Canada. Like the song goes ,we built this city, and now you want to move in and take over. Like I said that only third generation citizens should receive benefits from Canada because we built this country in our image, a Christian community with Christian values and holidays.

Canada bends over backwards to welcome immigrants compared to many countries- what this report fails to mention is how many immigrants simply use Canada to get citizenship and then move back to their native countries with dual citizenship that gives them and their families medical care, and a free ride back here when their own unstable countries become dangerous, or those that use Canada as a temporary safe and generous harbour before moving on. Very handy. I believe our immigration system is broken - all our Canadian governments want are more and more warm bodies to feed an insatiable tax monster, without regard to the significant social and economic disruption poorly planned immigration causes. Trudeau and his people are among the worst.

Become a canadians citizen...then go back and live on your homeland...when you get pregnant you come here...its FREEEEEEEE......need surgery.....come back to canada....

Because of Trudeau’s socialist liberal policies and the national media support of such policies,we as Canadians don’t have anyplace to go. But as an “irregular traveller” you can become a citizen of our land and go back to where you came from. As long as the Canadian taxpayer will look after you wherever you are and whatever you need. I wish as a Canadian we would have that kind of support in our own country.

recognition would not help. THERE IS NO ECONOMY. Taxes are extremely high. There is no industry base, dah. Property taxes. .....perhaps it is good as a country for refugees......\n\nHealthcare is a ridiculous experience. My wife was given the wrong prescription from a walk-in clinic which was recognized by a doctor at North York Emergency. But they were unable to solve her problem......We flew to China and that worked.\n\nBeing born and raised here and after leaving for Hong Kong, something has happened to the country and it has become more backwards and primitive (well, Canadians don't like to hear this, but go travel and work elsewhere and see).

Many become a citizen of convenience and have no interest in being Canadian. This needs a major overhaul. You become a citizen and don’t pay taxes here you lose citizenship and all benefits. Too many becoming citizens of convenience. Pay your dues or leave.

Out of touch with citizens . Look at the crime in greater TO . Canadian government is making me sick . What I have noticed for decades is immigrants whose sons do what they want when they want and too often become gangsters . No thanks to sons from messed up families , religious fanatics and war torn countries .
