I have been living here for 28 years (that’s most of my life, I came her as a young child). My sister’s and I have experienced first hand racism due to our hijab in elementary school, high school, after 9-11 during job interviews (myself and my brothers due to their name being Muhammed). Over time things have gotten better alhumdolillah but racism exists everywhere and many have experienced it. Where there are people that use racial slurs or acts of discrimination etc, there are many more that will support you and guide you. I love Canada and wouldn’t live anywhere else but to say it’s not there and every case is dealt with the way it was dealt with our London family, is not the case. If it was, what happens with them would not have happened. May Allah help us treat one another with tolerance and love as Islam intends it to be. Remembered in the early 90’s working at one of the Big 8 accounting firms and interviewing a fella who had a turban and we talked about everything from work to Ice Hockey. Thought he was a good fit and went back to sit with the team (all White) and atmosphere was very clear, the turban fella was not to be considered. I sat quiet as the lowest on the pecking order. To be fair, we did have other minorities and even a staff with the name Mohammed - but they were far and few in-between. Industry has changed and we now have partners from minority groups (clearly tied to groups and countries that have grown economically). Unfortunately discrimination or prejudices still exist and seems to have made a comeback led by Trump.

Ive actually living in America applied for a job in Cooperate American. I applied with real name education and work history. I was VERY qualified if not Overqualified...i applied using a different variation of my name amd using my mothers maiden name, and got the job after interviewing with a different supervisor. Once i showed my ID for tax papers etc. I was called into the office on my orientation day amd was told that i wasnt hired using my real name and could not continue employment. Well i wasnt silent. I sued and received a settlement. Racism is everywhere even in a name

I have had many job interviews where it was only by phone. i also had one that wouldn't extend the job offer until I sent a photo like driver license pic type. They claimed they want to see if i was a polished professional but I was interviewing for the same job as I already had and in the same industry. The whole thing made me uncomfortable. I have Asian friends who changed their last name to white last names to improve their chances for higher level jobs. By the time they arrive for the final physical interview, the interviewer/ company is shocked he or she is Asian. By then, it's harder for them to be biased and have their resume thrown out in the beginning and hire him based on his pure abilities. Welcome to Canada.

Lets all face the reality. Racial profiling works especially when you're talking about security and safety. The police do it, the FBI, CIA, military, even those store security department. The only problems I can see with blind recruitment is, the person's application might be accepted, but if they have to interview in person they can still be rejected. Of if it is a phone interview and you have an accent you might not make pass it. Even if you get hired with blind recruitment and not interview is required, once you start working, if you are a minority some employers might look for ways to fire you. So it's a good concept, but still needs a little tweaking.

I am Latino, more or less capuccino skin (with extra milk), I can say that racial experiments here would be very interesting. I finnished university and have experience in my field. I've been looking for a job for a while, not much luck, I'm don't get called to interviews that much, I only get calls from agents that show me positions in company that I apply for but 90% of the time get rejected right away. \n\nI have white friends, one of them didn't study university. It hasn't been easy for him either, but he's pretty lazy, I know for a fact he didn't search much and got 7 interviews in 3 months while I hardly got called for 3 companies with the help of 5 agents. He got a job for which he needed training, I got rejected for that job and I do have experience in that field. I have to say it hurts. Funny thing, even he says it's suspicious because he couldn't answer many questions on the interview

I've had stereotype experience too in stores, jobs interviews, clinics, restaurants, kiosk, even hospitals. All places are all biased and this all depends on one person who wrongly judged another person. Sometimes favoritism plays a part of it too.\nIt's like no escape from it.
