In Montréal, before the 2000s, it was easy to move whenever we wanted and rents were affordable. We had a deep sense of belonging in our city districts and crime was low. Now everything has gone. Population has been replaced with foreigners of incompatible cultures. We never thought things like that could happened before the 2000s. No one asked for that. Thanks trudeau!!!!

Renting is a business, why will you wanna destroy a landlord business. If you cant pay, move to the government shelters or become homeless. Landlord are not cheergivers or philanthropist, they are business people....

Utterly absurd. No rent, no home. Out in two weeks unless they pay in full plus late charges. I'm saying this as a renter. Bad renters make it worse for everyone else.

This is so infuriating. Tenants have too much leverage. It's not right not paying rent. Why aren't collection agencies allowed to get involved or have the tenants salaries garnished? Totally ridiculous

This happened to us too. Tenant didn't pay 35k in rent and then damaged the entire house.

Struggling immigrants are hardly in a league to be driving up rents on 2.5k/month apartments. As explained, governments have bombed on several other fronts that has hurt the whole country.

I always find it interesting when people who sue others that do not do as they are supposed to, then feel they do not need to do as they are supposed to. Deeqa has suffered a huge loss but that is not on the landlord, This province is facing a huge housing shortage that you would think they would give some safe guards to the people with homes to rent.

Did the landlord double the rent which lead to the LTCB ? Casualty of rising interest rates ? As the tenant will find that market rents have gone up for a new unit too and incomes have not ? So another lesson for renters do not rent where you're paying the owners mortgage lol as could go up as banks hike mortg. rates lol ?

Increased rents are mostly due to high interest rates, not $6/hr Uber drivers. They cant even afford to stay at $3000/mo apartment. High interest rates = less property sales = higher demand for rentals = increase cost of goods to make up higher rentals. They should thank the homeless ppl to drive down the property values near encampments

I am an immigrant who moved to Canada about two decades ago, worked day and night now I can't even rent a bachelor room and my fridge is empty since few years, while new immigrants gets all the luxury and 15k credit card, living in Canada is like dying every minute not to be able to support my child and his activities.

Here in the US, we are citizens and between me and my hub. we could not get a rental for around $2.000, working a 9-5 job (mon-Fri) because our income was insufficient to pay the rent for the year. How will an immigrant even make it here under these circumstances.

Overpopulation overpopulation overpopulation makes every problem on the planet impossible to solve. We need every government in the world to have policies that encourage people to have 2 or fewer children. As the population stabilises and slowly reduces rents will be more affordable, unemployment will be reduced, pollution causing climate change will reduce, loss of animal habitat and species extinction will stop, happiness and health will increase for everyone.

A criminal case should be formed if found that the tenant was in good financial condition and was able to pay rent, but was negligent to pay. Tenants rights should end if found criminally negligent about paying rent.

For the past ten years all they built is condos for investment and no apartment for rent for the people ,my people we have to look very close to the people we put in power in every level of government in Canada.if we do not start now we will be in the same boat in the future. I would like to know how many past government officials that have invested into the housing market.then we will have a better knowledge on low income housing that are not being built.

The government should pay her rent since she can't pay her rent. If she was the owner, she would not like someone to do this to her. I would like to know if she is employed? They are taking advantage of Canada rules of owners and tenant. I hope they will have a resolution of this matter very soon.

As an Indian student, i would like to share with you my perspective \n1) you will never see me dancing in public, blasting music and littering \n\nI actually spend my sundays cleaning plastic from trails \n\n2) i am a full time student for 4 years funding over 90 grand for a bachelor on top of that paying my taxes and paying 1100$ a month for rent being limited to 24 hours a week I do not work outside campus I work the job the college provided to me \n\nThe problem comes up when people use the 1 year and 6 month diploma program to enter the country and work here full time \n\nThey associate themselves only with indians mainly because they cant speak the English language fluently \nTherefore they associate with the exact people they associated with back home \n\nHow will they adapt to a new country if they hang out with the same people \n\n\nI came to canada with a goal \n\nTo make Canadian friends \nLearn about Canadian culture \nStart a new life \nAnd work my ass off to get my degree \n\n\nMost people move here to make more money \n\nThey sell their land and do so \n\nPlease do not associate hard working indians who adapt and leave their past behind with these people who have come here purely to exploit the system\n\n\nTrust me I know it's hard to hear this but good Indians do exist. My sympathy to the landlord! Having tenants is the worst investment, I suggest if you can, invest elsewhere. The Board is on delinquent tenant's side. Open a file and evict her. I advise all landlords to verify thoroughly all the candidates when they rent away their property.

A tenant of mine - a social worker - shifted a homeless man into an empty apartment in my house without asking for a permit. I offered him to shelter the homeless man as a guest within his rented apartment, yet this he did not want. Typical socialist: placing the rotten egg in the nest of others to deal with. I told him, if he does this again, then eviction time comes.\n\nThere is a way to get the above lady out. No, I am not talking about hitmen from the dark web. What I mean is, get the government agencies involved by claiming she endangers hygienic conditions within the building. As a landlord in Toronto, I had to return my tenant full year rent costs for him to move out in the end of the year cause i wanted to stop renting out. The system is broken.

It's not really the fault of immigrants or foreigners that you feel insecure both socially and economically. It's the fault of the system that allowed them to enter the country in the first place. They're just trying to survive like the rest of us in Canada.\n\nBut we cannot deny the fact that more immigrants or foreigners means more demand for housing, rent, food, and other necessities, leading to higher prices. Why is everyone moving to Toronto. Canada is not Toronto. There are many places in Canada that needs to be developed. Why not develop other places. Toronto is saturated with people. Our resources are depleted. Rents are very high. New immigrants should go live in other parts of Canada. Start communities and businesses in other areas. All new immigrants cannot settle in Toronto. We need the rest of Canada to be developed.

The foreigners i encountered in Toronto were wealthy foreign non-resident owners of condos they rented out. I wonder who owns all the properties in Toronto. Are the owners still mostly foreign investors?\nCheck out who is rich instead of pitting poor against poor.

sell the condo? maybe lower the rent? maybe you're too greedy? renting condo is no different than stock market investment. there's no guarantee profit. you may lose, you may win.
