I married my spouse and moved to the United States from Canada. Before, I didn't give the US much thought and merely loved travelling to a few of the locations. Having said that, even after spending five years there, I have never witnessed a country and a population as divided as the US. You proudly display your flag, yet you're so racist, illiterate, and a bible-thumper that it disgusts me. The United States is not the most free country in the world, despite what the public believes and thinks. In reality, it is also depressing to observe how the healthcare system handles people. The social safety net is completely missing, and by that I mean that most jobs don't pay for maternity leaves or vacations unless you work at a senior level or for a high-end company. The political system is so rigged that it is understandable why people are tired of voting every two years, and perhaps even every year. Most certainly, especially since your elections begin almost exactly when the previous one finished. I suppose I could go on forever, but I'll stop here. Although Canada is not perfect, is not free from controversy or problems, and is not the best at everything, we are able to concede defeat, acknowledge that someone was wrong or that we might have done better, work together with one another, and express that we are SORRY. Yes, it is a word that is never used in the US, and that is also the issue. I'm pleased to be back in Canada, where I belong, and I regret ever leaving. Canada is objectively better in terms of legal employment protections, unemployment insurance and healthcare, even though it's second-rate when you take into account waiting times etc. Our public education system is hands down better, even with it's woke issues. I'm Canadian but It's hard to compare Canada to the US. The US has a population of approx 335 million people and Canada has just reached 40 mil. There's bound to be more crime etc in the US. I would choose Canada for that reason, plus the health care.

I've recently had experiences with the US healthcare system through my partner, who is American, and I was appalled. I would challenge that the health care is higher quality in the US than Canada. I saw a complete lack of care, unprofessionalism, incompetence, and a bureaucratic mess the likes of which I've never experienced here. Even the premiere hospital in the region couldn't compare to the level of care I have experienced in the larger city hospitals here. Of course, his care did cost several thousand dollars a day, for which they sent him a bill after sending the original bill to the wrong department to get paid (through his insurance). It was a mess, all during which he suffered, had them come up to 2 hours late with his narcotic pain meds, taking up to an hour to answer a call bell, and generally being the antithesis of care. I am very happy that when we first began our relationship, I made it clear that I would never move to the US, and he was okay with that.. In fact, he's very much looking forward to leaving the country of his birth, for whom he served in the military for 20 years, and moving to Canada.

The thing is, it's ALL priority based, so if you wait, it's because someone needs your resources even MORE than you do. Sometimes, it ends up in a tragedy, but MOST times, it allows for the neediest to get it first. \nAs far as having children here, we have a NEGATIVE birthrate, so our government PAYS us to have children. My son grew up in Quebec, and they have a double everything. Double taxes (not that bad after the tax deductions and credits), but they also Double the safety net and services, compared to the rest of Canada. Not only was childbirth free, so were the pre-natal courses and everything else, AND we got around 1000$/mo in childcare benefits, until he turned 18, with full of tax credits per kid. Plus, daycare was 5$/day back then, it's 7$/day almost 20 years later.. Pretty citizen friendly. \nThings MIGHT be changing though. Our conservatives are taking their talking points from the US GOP since COVID, and they are all-in to please their Oil lobby overlords and donators out in our prairies region. I’m currently living in Canada and have lived in the USA. I can safety say the health care system sucks. I had to take my wife to the hospital because of an eye infection, we had to wait for 8 hours to be seen, the doctor was arrogant and sent us out in 2 mins. We had to travel to USA to get treated. Some can say you don’t have health care completely in Canada, the housing is completely expensive here, govt artificially limits supply of housing and drives up housing cost, the pay is less in Canada compared to USA. The Canadian PM is bigger joker compared to other world leaders.

I find the misinformation when comparing our ( Canadian) heath care system to yours is is huge. Firstly there is NO copay-NONE for anything. Secondly there is NO limit on cost of surgery or treatments-NONE. Sometimes there are new drugs that are very expensive and not yet covered but that is it. I have lived in the US for the winter for he past 13 years and the concept of no copay with our system just seems to be beyond their grasp. For the life of me I cannot understand why the US citizens do not want universal health care like ALL of the rest of the developed nations of the world. When someone says they have health care in the US that all comes with possibly thousands in copay fees.

First lets mention what I like about the United States. Americans are easy to make friends with. They have no problem making friends with complete strangers. Americans can be very inviting to compared to many places I have traveled to. The only place that compares in Canada is Newfoundland. In Canada you generally need an invite to a group to make friends.\n\nI liked how varied each state is. Changing states can sometimes feel crossing into a new world of sorts. This change can be both good and bad (i.e. Georgia very educated, Tennessee quite backwater). \n\nWhat I don't like is how Americans are overly patriotic, they can be borderline nationalistic and it is creepy (i.e. school children pledging allegiance before they even know what that means). In Canada if I don't want to stand during the playing of the national anthem no problem I don't have to. If you do that in the United States someone will address you and not in a favorable way. I also find their patriotism blinds many Americans to the truth about their country (i.e. many American truly have no idea how they compare to the rest of the world in many areas).\n\nLastly their infrastructure is terrible. Their infrastructure is first class if you are a driving a car, but in many places you aren't getting anywhere without that car. Is that such an added expense to have to own a car. This is the same problem in Canada, but from having lived in Europe and Asia I miss good transit systems.

Even the “good” American health insurance plans are riddled with ifs and buts. You don’t realise how bad American health insurance is compared to other countries. It’s not just about having one or not.

I'm going to bring up a non health care , social or gun violence issue that every American I've met who comes to Canada ususally comments on and that's how clean Canada is compared to the State, the pollution in the states is unbelievable its like no one cares there , in my province we have 4 different garbage pick ups once a week recycling for plastic paper glass cans and, Green bin food waste used to create clean compost , and seasonally yard waste every 2 wks again for composting and finally actual garbage which is only picked up every other week , seem like Americans just chuck there trash where ever they please

I'm Canadian. I was born here, raised here, and have lived here all my life. However, my parents are American (they came during the Vietnam war), and I have full dual citizenship. I could cross the border into the U.S., get a job, start working and live there for the rest of my life if I ever chose to do so.\n\nHowever, I will never live in the U.S. Why? The cost of healthcare insurance and healthcare in general is definitely a part of that, but another huge factor is the socio-political atmosphere down there that is very unappealing to me. Everything from politics, the gun issue, much higher violence than we have in Canada, more racism issues, the media, and from what I have observed from decades of visits to the U.S.: there just seems to be a lot more people that are on edge and hostile than I am used to compared to Canada as well. For me, the general culture and mindset is just not something I want to live amongst.\n\nThere are some things I enjoy in the U.S., and there ARE wonderful people there too. I have several friends in the U.S. (born and raised), not to mention my entire extended family is American. But for me, the U.S. is a nice enough place to visit, but it's not somewhere I'd ever want to live.\n\nNo matter what kind of trip I take to the U.S., whenever I get back home to Canada it's always like a deep sigh of relief. I feel safer. I feel more relaxed. I feel at home. No matter how good my trip was, when I set foot back on Canadian soil again I always get a feeling of humble gratitude that I live here. For me, other than the warmer weather and some of the sights the U.S. has to offer, I'm much, much happier in Canada. I feel very fortunate to live here.\n\nAs a side note, I have never found our public healthcare system here in Canada to be lacking whatsoever. Any healthcare I, or anyone else I know that has received any, has always been prompt, of excellent quality, and reassuringly delivered in a professional manner.\n\nAs an example, in 1994, my father had a seizure and it was discovered that he had a benign brain tumour that had to be removed. Not even a week later, he was booked for his surgery and he had his procedure. He was operated on by one of the top two neurosurgeons in North America at the time, he spent three weeks in recovery at the hospital, and he had months of rehab afterward. About 2 weeks later, he had another seizure (the last one he ever had), he stayed in another hospital for an additional two weeks.\n\nHowever, all of what I just mentioned, and I mean ALL of it, was paid for by our public healthcare system. All he had to do was show his healthcare card and sign a release form for his surgery, and that was it. Nothing more. There were literally ZERO bills, no insurance companies, no paperwork, no phone calls, and ZERO hassle. Nothing.\n\nAnd no, our family was NOT rich or privileged either. Just an average middle class family. However, my dad's neurosurgeon told us his surgery and all the months of care he received afterward would have cost $180,000 (in 1994!), and our family would have been out on the street if it wasn't for our healthcare system. My dad also had a very minor heart attack in 2007 which didn't require surgery, and he didn't have to pay a dime or do anything else other than show his healthcare card for that either. Since those two events, my father has lived a healthy, normal life thanks to our public healthcare.\n\nIn Canada, EVERYONE receives that kind of care, regardless of if they are a billionaire or they are homeless. Because that's the moral and ethical thing to do, and is just one of the many reasons why I plan on staying here.

I want to mention as im seeing it, the comparison between our healthcare systems really needs to be taken in context. Ours costs less. But both of our healthcare systems rank extremely poorly compared to many other countries.\n\nWe're number 32, you're number 69. Frankly, every country has its negatives and positives. Australia is a highly multicultural country and people are respectful of each other. In fact, if you go to outskirts of Sydney in regional NSW or any other state in Australia, people are very warm and friendly. Sometimes, it’s a matter of luck and also your skillset and English language ability. I am an immigrant myself and as a family we have been extremely happy here. The health system is fantastic, which is very important in my opinion. If you are a professional with excellent English abilities, you can get best of high paying jobs. It all depends on individual situations and background. I agree, summers are hot but that’s pretty much only 10-15 days in a year, and I think it’s reasonable compared to living indoors 7-8 months depressed due to severe cold and snow. Be happy wherever you are, stay positive and work hard, the rest will fall in place.

Wait time in Emergency about 7 to 8 hours in Toronto and GTA. The 950 dollars are a help for bill payments. If you have mortgage you can not survive. Comparing Canada to USA , one can find job easily in USA.

Speaking as a Toronto resident who rents in the city (and is thinking of moving out soon), I just don’t think you get the value that you pay for by living in Toronto. In addition to the concerning trends that this video mentions, the weather is crappy 8 months of the year, the transit system is one of the worst I’ve seen in a big city, you have to work a lot to sustain a good lifestyle, bars and restaurants here cost a ton of money and compared to other cities I’ve been to, I’ve found Toronto rather generic and not really unique in any way

Currently living in Gatineau, working in Ottawa. Visited Toronto twice and I love it but realistically, not feasible and not practically. Homelessness in Toronto is absurd and sometimes, not safe in some places. Rent in Toronto is also ridiculous, compared in Gatineau which is so cheap. My number 1 problem here in Ottawa-Gatineau is the public transit which is trash, sometimes, it gets lonely if u r single.
