I just moved to Tomar, Portugal in December and I don't regret it. I worked out of Ottawa before, and it was starting to get really depressing. After COVID hit and I stayed working out of my basement, the isolation got to be a bit too much. It was getting to the point you couldn't even share an opinion with someone for fear of ostracizing yourself. I've already made new friends from a bunch of different countries, and the locals have been warm and welcoming. Very happy to start a new life here.

Come to the South. There is some racial segregation by neighborhoods (especially in the very rich and very poor), but there are tons of racially diverse neighborhoods. The most extreme examples of racial segregation are found in the North and the Coasts. Ask the average resident of Providence, RI how many black people they know or share a neighborhood with. that tap water thing is sooooo true. i will never ever drink tap water. it tastes horrible and it looks horrible. i accidentally left a small pot of boiling water on the stove for too long to the point where all the water evaporated and it literally left a bunch of dark metal stuck to the pot. i tried wiping it off which kinda worked but it didn't work enough. that pot is stuck like that forever now.

In the employment field there is a brutal discrimination, if you are not Canadian you have 0 opportunities. Many times I have even more than the required skills and I don't even get a phone call.
