The telephone bill was $10 per month. A Vancouver-Toronto bus ticket was only $100. \nSchool education was good, children had to give exams. It used to be very easy to see a doctor. Buses were less crowded. \nNow the standard of education has gone down so much that children become like robots after finishing school. If you have to go to the hospital, you have to wait for 8-10 hours to see the doctor. \nNew immigrants find basements for shelter. Getting your own house has become a dream now. Those who have bought houses will have to pay the mortgage for a long time. Many homeowners are paying interest only, there is no reduction in the principal. \nBus service is so sparse that sometimes more than 100 passengers wait for a 38-seater bus. \nInternational students are in a very bad situation. Spend 25-30 lakhs, live 4-5 together in basements and do hard labor jobs (warehousing, retail cashier, security). Even if they do 2 years diploma they do not get any good job, only minimum wage jobs. \nThose with good jobs or jobs (income of eighty thousands or more) should come to Canada with a lot of thought, because when they come here, they are all considered workers and they have to find low-paying jobs and have to live in often in basements. \nProf. Kuldip Pelia \nSurrey, Canada

You may live here if you have enough organs to spare to afford all the rising prices and maybe if one is good looking enough, one could earn side money with bodily trades but that's where one loses one's self-respect and dignity, which isn't worth the cost and trouble.\n\nAnd does it match what you were told as opposed to what you lived being here... Fine, let them go. Basically Canada should offer three choices for immigrants:\n\n1) bring in enough money with you to enjoy a good life\n\n2)work hard after arriving to make enough money and enjoy a good life\n\n3) leave Canada if you don’t have money and don’t want to work hard for a good life.\n\nNo one should be entitled to a good life, especially when they just arrived. the last thing we need is to pay for people to immigrate and stay here. We should have the same standard for everyone, no matter where they are from.

Like me, I already want to move back. Canada was overglamorized. I think I'm just gonna finish my post grad work permit and move back home. At least there, housing is still within my reach. It's rare people doesn't own homes. You can grow food in your backyard. Can live without debt in any way if you choose as we dont rely in mortgages and credit cards or credit scores.\n\nCanada is good in pictures, but not totally in real life. And what I realized is every country has issue in corruption, government, capitalism etc. There's no perfect country, might as well, just have an almost perfect life with loved ones.

In the past 2 years - I have spent 3 months in Toronto, and last year, 3 months in Montreal...and it is like the Tale of Two Cities! In Toronto, I stayed at a friend's off the park that abuts Queens St, and Dundas St. on the far side. I barely got a good night's sleep - from the constant wailing of Sirens at ALL Hours of the night/early morning! I witnessed several incidents of random violence - including on the trolly cars, and many of them involving homeless Indigenous people ...who were historically shit-on by Canada! In comparison to US Cities - Toronto minded me of problem-plagued SF, Seattle, and Portland. The Density factor reminded me of NYC, minus the Positive Street savvy that New Yorkers have in spades! I did meet some very nice people, but overall - Torontonians were uptight, concerned about money all the time, and sometimes - just downright rude! Fast-Forward to Montreal. I stayed in Le Plateau...renting a room for 3 months. Lovely House-mates - One Turkish/Polish Woman, and an Iranian Man - both were quirky, and Delightful! My rent was very decent, and my Host showed me all the affordable places to eat, swim for free, free Yoga in the parks...within 2 days, I felt at Home! It was 3 days before I even noticed a siren! Drivers stoped for pedestrians, and as it was summer - the bike-lanes were full of bike riders! The Green Spaces were plentiful, and Parc Mount Royal is a Terrestrial Paradise! Were there some social issues? - of Course! French being the official language, the Quebecois are a VERY Proud, and defiant lot! That was difficult at first, and then...learning some history of Quebec, you begin to understand their irascible defenses! There was some homelessness (a Fraction of what I see in the US, and Toronto!), and prices are creeping-up (the common complaint!), and there was a lot of construction, and road repairs - as Quebec is NOT a wealthy part of Canada, overall. In short - I miss Montreal DEEPLY! Toronto? - I have a good friend there, and I hope to see a few of the folks I met there, Again. Travel Impressions are mainly subjective, but I know where my heart, and affection lie!

Coming back to a land where general caste people Living with no reservation, labor laws, no work ethics, dirty politics and corruption where your kids will smoke 150 cigarettes per day due to the deteriorating air quality . I am sorry your kids will be deprived of a productive lifestyle if you just follow your emotions. 5 crore cases are pending and four months’ salary will be paid in taxes with nothing in return so dont think you are doing any service to bharat mata by coming back. \n\nIt is better you equip your kids with good family values and traditions and then send them there. I'm one of them.\n\nI landed in October of 2022 as a skilled immigrant, and stayed for a month before returning home to finish off some work commitments.\n\nI haven't returned since, and I don't think I will. I have a decent house, good career prospects/business opportunities back home, and I can take a vacation abroad or travel domestically for fairly cheap multiple times a year. \n\nFree/subsidised government healthcare isn't the best (not the worst either) but we also have private hospitals/clinics that are relatively affordable and fairly quick to access. \n\nFurthermore many other immigrants I know living there are telling me that they are planning on leaving as well.\n\nThe cost of living in major Canadian cities is no joke. I feel for the people born there who don't have other options.

I have a theory; US lottery gave PR through a random selection, it allowed ourliers who otherwise will not qualify to get PR and move to america, these are the ones that start business and do random stuff that diversify and boost the economy. Canada PR system is based on point selection, points are earned from degree, work, language etc, this brings a specific type of people, people good in classroom, obedient people who look good on paper, these group are not risk takers, they will find a job, go back to school and struggle for the same type of opportunities. this places pressure on the system to cater to them. As an Irishman who moved to Canada 4 years ago I can tell you the country is in a shocking state, zombies on every street corner, violent crimes outta control, even my wife who is English was attacked while riding the train to work one morning by a random homeless person of Asian descent telling her to go home and abusing her with racial slurs, on top of this the prices of everything has shot up enormously from rent to your average grocery shop, woke culture is forced upon everywhere to the point I feel like I’m being controlled on my world views… both me and my wife are educated and have good jobs yet we just about keep our heads above water in a two bedroom flat in Calgary

This is missing SOOOO much of the actual story of what is going on over here. There is a lot of corruption in our housing market fueled by faked incomes just for starters. That's not including the massive supply and demand crunch we are facing on multiple fronts from having too much people suddenly, to having not enough housing suddenly. For those curious, you can find some CBC marketplace videos that cover some of this from a couple years back. The banks have been caught f'ing around as well, what with pushing through mortgage requests that should never have been allowed to occur; and that's just what we know about. \n\nNo offense to anyone in this video, or anyone else like them. We know that a good large chunk of most of you are not at fault here with what's going on. But there are some people from all sorts who are all doing their own dirty little deeds, and they are culminating into the gigantic pile of BS that the rest of us now get to deal with. \n\nAnd make no mistake, what I am saying is not even close to the full extent of the BS going on. This is just one facet of it. There still is the universities mentioned that we need to talk about, whom have been fleecing internationals for years now. Healthcare suddenly became a huge problem. Few young people can ever buy a house. even a garbage house can cost a million dollars in major cities. Pensioners cannot even just pay rent ($2,000 for a one bedroom) or their basic pension. Nobody has a good solution for the homeless. Billions of dollars are being sent to foreign countries for some reason. Many degrees outside of doctor or lawyer don't get people jobs.

Well. There are thousands of permanent residents from Canada who got stranded around the world in the pandemic. The travel restrictions Canada put in place for permanent residents are far out of line. I was at the airport the last week before airports got closed. I had even my return ticket printed out, checked online in. At the airport, I was told, with some other PR’s that as a PR we were not allowed to board the plane! Seriously? What country does this? For myself, I couldn’t return to Canada for 1.5 years! Panic in the first couple of weeks. Calling the Canadian embassy every week. Even asking if Canada had a way to extend the Permanent residency visa at the embassy available. No. If you are longer than 2 years away from Canada, you CANNOT RENEW YOUR PERMANENT RESIDENCY CARD! Well. Lucky me, I didn’t had to work. After 14 years of working and living in Canada, I just had enough from a country that is telling none Canadians that we are people of 2nd class. And no. I am not from India. I’m from Germany and we cannot have a 2nd passport like other countries. I just got rid of everything in Canada. I stayed in Panama. Renewed last year my German passport. Got a “lifetime” residency visa in Panama. Don’t have to be worried about heating costs anymore. It is warm year around. Maybe it was a good thing that Canada gave me the “2nd class human” feeling. That’s when you figure out in times of emergency what countries do for immigrants. Canada was one of a handful countries in the pandemic who blocked permanent residence card owners from returning!

I hate to disagree to most comments on this Video. Canada is still one of the best countries to live, work and raise your family. As a pakistani immigrant myself, having lived in Dubai, Saudi, and UK, I still find Canada easily the best overall.\n\nWhen it comes to hardships, yes you must have a positive mindset to survive in Canada but ofcourse you pay the price of living your Canadian dream. \n\nIf you are a couple with a household income of 10K take home, you can still live an extremely good life in Canada. But again, its a game of patience and perseverance. Canada is not for faint hearts and negative minds. \n\nGod bless us all

This is such a badly researched report from BBC. The title of the video talks about citizenship applications dropping but they provide no data to back it up even if it's true. Then they only go to Punjab and talk to a student who left Canada before they became a PR. So that's irrelevant to the story. Then a chunk of the report is about the international student cap which in no way reduces current citizenship applications. The report should only concentrate on PRs leaving the country or choosing to not apply for citizenship. They only had one example of that in the whole video. Also interview PRs from other places other than Punjab. The story might be the same but it's good to know.

Lol, BBC is trying to put a spin on the problem with Indian nationals abusing our systems and being told no more by the Canadian public and policitians. These people were the ones working the diploma mills to get into Canada. Good riddance. Stay in India

I lived in Canada for 13 years, my two kids were born there\nI was there from 1985 thru '98 a truly wonderful country with remarkably friendly an resilient people.\nI lived in numerous places around Toronto and always got on with the local communities.\nRecently went back on vacation and struggled to recognize the place, change is inevitable but one has to \nwonder if its for the good of the country.\nMy heart will always be with Canadiens and I wish y'all well.

My friends, multiculturalism simply does not work. Different cultures do not come together and mix, different cultures come together and clash. The world is divided into different countries for a reason: because people hate each other and only want to be with their own kind. The number two reason for Canada’s demise is ‘socialism’. In this modern era of aging populations, it is mathematically impossible for socialism to continue. The government does not have the money to take care of old people and provide healthcare, pensions and the various other benefits, even with the astronomical taxation that burdens hard working Canucks. Well Canada, you had a good run. Time for Canucks to move to an emerging country. We welcome you here in Southeast Asia.

My visa got rejected twice. I was really disappointed. Now in hindsight, i think it was for good. As the video depicts, soon Canada will be left without immigrants. I think Canada is still one of the best countries in the world. Some of the countries that have high rankings of happiness have free university, humane incarceration, much better health care,m and everyone has a family doctor, and many amenities to make life more productive and healthy. I’m fine paying more taxes for those societal benefits but many aren’t. Society is what we make it to be honest. Staying put and digging in and contributing to good in your community is a great way to improve city life. I think you are far too concerned with what things cost to do that unfortunately. Thailand is cheap as hell but I could never tolerate the low wages paid to vulnerable, hard workers, and the profound poverty, not to mention sex tourism. Trashing cities and departing isn’t helpful. It can take 10 years to get permanent reseadence .if Trudeau stays there won't be much of Canada left and no one will be able to buy food and rent or bills. And are your children safe in Canada.

I understand most of your reasons but if you don’t think there are no LGBTQ Muslims in Muslim places in the world too you are kidding yourself! You are preaching tolerance but your actions in this respect say otherwise. Queer people are about 1/10 around the world whether closeted because they fear your attitude or not. Good for you. I think all Muslims living in the West especially those with young children should follow suit. Many Muslims parents don't realize the negative effects of public schools and western society's influences on their children until it's too late. 90% of the population in Canada people are really sick and suffering from different kind of diseases . That talks very bad for Canada that means the life in Canada is very bad ! The Christian/Atheist West will never fully accept practicing Muslims. They will tolerate it because we need young bodies and it allows them to feel three powerful human emotions: superiority, pity and, for many, disgust. Another reason to leave for a Muslim country is you will be lucky if one of your grandchildren are practicing Muslims. The power of culture is far greater than parental influence over a couple of generations. I'm an immigrant and my immigrant friends and I were talking about exactly this just the other day. I'd like to add some context on why so few international students stay: they can't. Schools prey on this very fact. In international recruiting, these schools use the promise of thriving local industries and trot out graduates working locally as major draws to these expensive programs. Then once students are in Canada, many of these schools couldn't care less: they offer little or sometimes no housing support, no immigration advice (or in my case and many of my friends' cases: they give straight-up false immigration advice that can screw you over or even get you in trouble). There absolutely needs to be regulation and accountability for these predatory schools; I think a good starting point would be capping the number of visas they can apply for based on the number of housing units available (either on-campus or via local development subsidy and homestays). Tons of students come to Canada completely unprepared due to false promises made by these schools, and then get spit out into an egregiously inefficient and broken work visa system.\nMy immigrant friends and I are all highly skilled in our specific field. There are only a handful of people in the world (let alone in Canada) who can do what I do at the level I do it, so I would be incredibly difficult to replace if I left Canada. Despite that, and despite being Canadian-educated (Canadian resources invested in me that you'd want to keep in Canada), remaining in Canada has been a massive struggle for me and my friends. We individually spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars every year to apply for permits that have to be renewed annually, but take the government 6+ months to process. Because the government is so backed up, we have to apply for *extra* permits to bridge that gap (more money, and more work added to IRCC's already-long line of applications). I'm in limbo for the majority of the year where I can't switch employers, can't leave the country, etc. It's horrible. \nBut I have it better than most. Of the international students in my year, only I and one other student are still in Canada because the transition to work permits is so needlessly long and difficult. Even a graduate who does manage to get a work permit might have to sit unemployed for 6 months or more before that permit is active. How is a student supposed to survive without work for that long? In order for employers to even apply to sponsor a graduate, they often have to do a lengthy labor market impact assessment, and so these graduates are stuck in a holding pattern, and they're the lucky ones. Immigration is absolutely vital to Canada and I hate how quickly these stories turn to xenophobic rhetoric, but we have to make space in the conversation to take a look at how schools are exploiting students and policy loopholes, and why they're doing it, and address those problems. The current system isn't fair to anyone.

We’ve been here since more than a year now and we don’t have a car and we love the pollution free air here and the work life balance. If you live downtown, you don’t need a car as public transport is very convenient. If you don’t want to do things on your own and you definitely need the help from maids and so on, then Canada isn’t for you. It all depends on where you find a house. Very few people in downtown own cars. If you want to live a healthier life, Canada is a good place for that. We came in winters and settled with the help of relatives and thankfully it’s been good so far. Summers are amazing here. Job market is a struggle currently but it’s not permanent. And it is possible to find a job from India if you try for it. If you’re in IT, you don’t need to start from scratch. There are Indian stores almost everywhere and many Indian restaurants as well. You just need to find your place. And it’s an amazing place for plant based vegan people. Food quality is amazing and great safety restrictions. Healthcare also depends on where you live. If you find your people and friends and keep socializing with family, loneliness won’t be there. It’s better to move to a new country when you don’t have kids. \nAlso the accent gradually develops and there’s nothing to worry about. This place is very diverse and there are people with very different accents from all around the world. There is some struggle initially but it all depends on what your priorities are. Life here is very comfortable once you get used to the lifestyle here and the biggest thing is, work life balance and the quality of life. If you want to do things other than your job, this is a good place to do that. Kids also become much more independent here. Rest it all depends on what your goals in life are. Also one of the biggest factors is, if your partner/husband isn’t willing to help with housework or cooking, you can’t survive here. As simple as that. Many factors to consider.

Canada is built on false promises to lure in immigrants to have them work for cheaper while ignoring it's own citizens. If there was more of an effort on infrastructure and technology Canada could have been similarly valued to the states but treadeu ruined all major relationships and is a laughing stock globally it's very clear no world leader even respects the guy and hurts canadas trading potential massively along with how we're viewed. Canada tried way to hard to be it's own thing and different which also helped shoot the country in the foot. The government is extremely corrupt outright denys separate parties from speaking, underhanded tactics to win elections, control over media. Canada is a first world country but a declining one at that and if something doesn't change it will easily become an impoverished country where we will only be used to have our resourced sucked dry and sold to other countries to profit off while the elite remain powerful in Canada. Canada is seriously wasted potential. Canada should have high speed rails that connect the major cities but doesn't, we don't have actually good energy infrastructure due to projects being abandoned under trudeau that would bring a lot of money back. First of all, TO STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT THEIR WAYS, since factual evidence slapped to my face that their ways were far more effective than my country's ways.\nI went back to my country after a few years, were I was able to improve my situation thanks to the qualifications they helped me earn. They did not ask me to leave, but I felt I had to do that. I realized I lacked the qualities (energy, initiative, enthusiasm) that would enable me to contribute to and continue their effort in modelling their Society, the very Society that gave me so much.
