Just one example how messed up Canada is to be a doctor (gp) it you have to study 10 years do a degree and then study onther 5 years while every other country only needs 5 years of study after leaving school.

I married my spouse and moved to the United States from Canada. Before, I didn't give the US much thought and merely loved travelling to a few of the locations. Having said that, even after spending five years there, I have never witnessed a country and a population as divided as the US. You proudly display your flag, yet you're so racist, illiterate, and a bible-thumper that it disgusts me. The United States is not the most free country in the world, despite what the public believes and thinks. In reality, it is also depressing to observe how the healthcare system handles people. The social safety net is completely missing, and by that I mean that most jobs don't pay for maternity leaves or vacations unless you work at a senior level or for a high-end company. The political system is so rigged that it is understandable why people are tired of voting every two years, and perhaps even every year. Most certainly, especially since your elections begin almost exactly when the previous one finished. I suppose I could go on forever, but I'll stop here. Although Canada is not perfect, is not free from controversy or problems, and is not the best at everything, we are able to concede defeat, acknowledge that someone was wrong or that we might have done better, work together with one another, and express that we are SORRY. Yes, it is a word that is never used in the US, and that is also the issue. I'm pleased to be back in Canada, where I belong, and I regret ever leaving. Yes, returning to Canada feels peaceful and inviting compared to travelling to the US, where every trip involves an interrogation to ensure that you don't remain too long. There is no need to worry because I won't be returning to stay, only visit, as previously.

A company I worked with for 3 years sent me to the states (primarily Seattle) to work out of a studio there for about a third of every year I worked with them. It was like Vancouver, but even less friendly, more violence (heard a minimum of three gunshots a day while working there, and I can go years without hearing a single one where I live in Canada), and the amount of poverty was insane.

I've had about 8 friends and 2 relatives who have tried life in the USA.\nOne cousin is still in Colorado after moving there with her 2nd husband, an American, over 10 years ago. The rest have come back to Canada and the biggest general impression I get is that it is simply a huge relief to get out of there. That is a huge contrast to the people I know who had tried life in Mexico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Europe, Thailand, Japan, VietNam, Australia, and New Zealand: far fewer of them have come back to Canada because they are happy with life there. And the ones who have come back all have things they miss about the countries and most want to go back someday.\n\nMost of the people I know who have come back from the USA are highly critical of the utter lack of a decent health care system in the USA, but for them it was a solvable problem because they had decent jobs and insurance while they were in the USA. What gave them so much relief when they came back to Canada was that during their time in the USA they never felt safe. There is something fundamentally and brutally fucked up about a country where every bank has armed guards, the mall cops are armed, half of the people in your neighbourhood are armed, you're scared to send your children to school, and every time you turn around you see a cop with his hand on his gun.

The stark difference between Canada and the US boils down to political philosophy. Canada is very Hobbes in that the role of the state is to maintain social order. So the state sees to the welfare of the subjects but all rights are privileges granted by the state and can be withdrawn when they feel it is necessary.\nThe US centres around the philosophy of Locke where the state can potentially become tyrannical and must be restrained. Rights are considered to come from the individual and the state may not infringe upon them because the state didn’t grant them in the first place. This also creates an individualistic society with the belief that every man and woman must stand on their own.\nNot arguing one way or the other. Just if you go from one to the other, expect a radically different mindset than you are probably accustomed to.

I'm going to bring up a non health care , social or gun violence issue that every American I've met who comes to Canada ususally comments on and that's how clean Canada is compared to the State, the pollution in the states is unbelievable its like no one cares there , in my province we have 4 different garbage pick ups once a week recycling for plastic paper glass cans and, Green bin food waste used to create clean compost , and seasonally yard waste every 2 wks again for composting and finally actual garbage which is only picked up every other week , seem like Americans just chuck there trash where ever they please

Every province has it's own health care coverage. If you move from one province to another you must apply for their coverage. Your province's health coverage will cover you for up to 3 months. If you leave Canada you have NO medical coverage and must pay the bill yourself, unless you have travelers insurance.

I'm American and spend at least a month in Canada each summer. Maybe a grass is greener situation, but Canada seems better in almost every way. One thing is for sure, the people in Canada are a lot nicer than Americans.

11 years ago a trip to the ER in Texas cost close to or more than the cost with insurance than a the cost for an ER visit in NS (for those out of country who are not covered by our provincial program). \n\nWe would pay $50 copay at the ER, then over. The next few days we would receive a bill for the physician, then from pharmacy, then from the facility, then from X-ray, etc, every separate department would have its own portion. \n\nAnd then there was the unpleasant surprise when the doctor who saw you in the ER was not an “in network” doctor even though the hospital was “in network”. Our insurance paid 70% of (approved) in network costs, but only 50% of out of network costs. Keep in mind that “in network” hospitals and providers had lower negotiated rates with the insurance companies. Which meant you would have coverage of 70% of a negotiated lower rate for in network but out of network was 50% of a higher rate.\n\nMy neighbours were lovely people. The culture was much different than I expected. The gun culture really hits you in face. For the first while it seemed to be so obvious - signs on pharmacies, hospitals, and schools that state that guns were not allowed, even with a conceal and carry permit. Very quickly, that became “normal”….\n\nFood was amazing. Gas was cheap. Politics was everywhere. Christian mega churches were everywhere - along with some very vocal overbearing people who force their beliefs and opinions on anyone who is near them. \n\nI was surprised with the number of people who felt it was appropriate to discuss religion, politics, and money with virtual strangers. A lot of very personal questions as well. I am guessing it is the difference between what is considered extremely rude in Canada, vs what is just a regular question in the US (or that area of Texas). \n\nAnd another very different thing was how hardly anyone swore. I had the bottom drop out of a bad carrying glasses when I was in San Antonio, the glasses broke, and I said “Shit.” I have never seen so many heads turn towards me. Most of the females looked at me with complete disgust and a lot of the males laughed. I expect that the American who heard me swear, were thinking I was the rudest person. One of my children’s friends was from Australia and when their mom came over one day, she said something to the effect of “so glad you are Canadian” because she sis not have to worry about offending me if she said fuck. That was a relaxing afternoon.

Every time you say “America, or American” I cringe. There are 35 countries in the Americas. \nIs there a country, that identifies as Europe, Africa, or Asia? \nNot being anxious about the police, or thinking about someone having a gun. Is really good for mental health. \nI love you guys, for lots of other reasons. For one, the world still needs, the presence and idea of “America”. \nChina wants to take over. They are not very nice, to non Han people. Ask Hong Kong, Taiwan, Myanmar, Solomon Islands, Philippines, Tibet, Xinjiang, and other places. \nWhen Russia exhausts itself with the current war. China will steamroll them.

Every trip i took to the US was overwhelmingly a positive empierce. Tho i was attempted mugging but i talked them out of it with my Canadian charm ha.(in buffalo ny) Every new friend i met were fantastic reps for thier state.I still want to see the grand canyon one day.

oh come on : availability and of course and quality of care and renown medical doctors are available as well in canada . OMG ,,,,,,,,... go to a medical clinic on the corner in nearly in every neighbourhood or go to ones own doctor, or if one is indeed dire they would go to the emergency room where *triage* is done. (depending on severity and you may have to wait) and yes smaller towns have less waiting time then do larger cities that have over a million populations one would expect or experience a seemily longer wait time at a hospital emergency then the many many many smaller towns and cities in canada also. duh

Everyone from India wants to move to Canada to make it like India - this mentality has to change. \n\nI don’t get why we cannot learn or adapt to new things and learn a thing or two. \n\nYes Canada teaches you responsibility and accountability. When I came here in Canada 33 years ago, I went do in legal process,My first employer offered me a job offer to come here in Canada,I went to whole legal process here,but I obeyCanadian law to have legal working visa ,and since day one paying taxes ,i earn my hard work after 30 years and receive early pension and still work in a full time job, My advice to illegal migrants follow what Canadian laws and go through legal process and crossing the right border to pass Not to way try find asylum to be free in every thing, in tax payers money.

1. Canada's immigration is primarily skilled labour. Non- skilled labour is imported mostly from the Carribean countries especially Jamaica and you have to leave every year and come back in the next. So, that can be disruptive, but I've met Jamaican's who've been on those programs and done well as well as those who haven't.\n2. If you come to Canada illegally utakipata. Be prepared to hustle for long.\n3. Since Covid everything has become very expensive especially housing. \n4. The videos you've shown of people sleeping outside is because of an increase in the influx of refugees wanting to come to Canada. Refugee shelters are allocated money in the budget for what the Govt estimates will be the number of refugees they'll take in, but there's been an influx lately.\n- A point to note though, ALL refugees Canada received from Ukraine had jobs within 2 months. Why? very skilled labour.\n- Canada's refugee policy is much more lenient than in the US and thus most refugees have been coming to Canada even from the US. The US ones have since been blocked by an agreement signed by both countries.\n5. Are there jobs in Canada? YES, but they require certain skills. The good thing is that once you get one, its the beggining of good fortunes.\n6. If you have skilled qualifications, be prepared to start at a lower level than you are used to and claw your way up. Just don't expect to start where you left off. A Nigerian friend of mine who had performed several surgeries in Nigeria could not be hired until he went back to get certified here in Canada. Lynn, this Canada thing is a common sense thing. Same reason a Tanzanian will not come to kenya to sell tomatoes on the streets due to high competition on the field. Any country you move to it depends on what you will go to do and who will help you get on your feet. Canada is extremely beautiful and one can prosper extremely well financially compared to kenya BY FAR! But you can’t come from the village and land in Toronto and wait for a job and opportunity to come get you from the airport! Am very honest. I live abroad, in one of the richest countries in the world and believe me, I have seen even their own citizens suffering economically. Why? What are their skills and plans and expectations? I read somewhere, with all the wealth in the world, if all was to be shared equally to every one the universe, the rich will become rich and the poor poor -again. So a kenyan should first plan who they will live with for atleast a year while they get on their feet, put their hustle mood on n be willing to take any jobs, plus get out of the mentality that one must be in a big city! Other places outside cities really have low costs of life and offer more opportunities. Just saying
