About 15% of US exports are sold to Mexico; however, about 78% of Mexico’s exports are sold to the US. It is entirely ridiculous for the Mexican president to behave like she could use tariffs to blow for blow with the US.
2024-11-28 1
A tariff from Mexico to the US, will skyrocket the price of millions of products such as tomatoes, avocados, strawberries, onions, garlic, ginger, bananas, pineapples, mushrooms, potatoes, and more fruits, vegetables, tortillas, and more products that are products from Mexico. Those tariffs guess who’s going to end up paying for that? Of course us. I voted for Trump but that would be such a stupid movement from Trump’s administration. Why can’t we spend more money to protect our borders instead of financing Israel’s and other countries’ wars at the expense of us American taxpayers?

Lower prices?! Of course that would be nice. Economically speaking, that means that a vast number of people want deflation. It could work in an economy not dependent on excess and consumerism, but the US economy is propped up on speculation and buying out of want rather than need. Deflation is considered an economic failure in this country. We target 2% inflation for fear that without it, people will buy less now and then there will be a downward correction on output and then jobs. \nIn any case, broad tariffs won’t be the answer to lower prices. A global economy is an efficient one, but often unfair or unkind in specific localities. The US has benefited from globalization and low cost labor elsewhere for decades. But the pendulum swung too far and now many Americans are feeling left behind. Tariffs could bring back jobs but on a 5 to 10 year timeline, not one 4-year presidential term, much less in a year.

25% tariff on drugs coming into US for MAGA members
2024-11-28 0
US trade with China is now only 16% of Chinese exports. Trump no longer has the leverage he had in his first term, and China has learned not to trust any agreements wth the USA because the US always breaks them, particularly Trump. From this point forward, every agreement will be transactional. If Trump goes over the top with tariffs on China, Mexico and Canada it will trigger an inflationary spiral that harms US consumers and an economy already in debt. Voter remorse will be swift.
2024-11-28 0
Balance of Trade deficit: US import more goods from China. Tariffs on goods coming from China will be passed on to consumers thru increased prices.
2024-11-28 0
They do not come to the US because it is safe. The US has probably become unsafe because of them. Impose tariffs on goods coming from foreign countries. Learn your lesson about China.
2024-11-28 0
Imposition of his tariffs will raise prices across the board. Canada tariffs will drive up gasoline prices to $8-10 per gallon. Mexican Coke will go from $3.60 per bottle to $6-7 per bottle. This will be the catalyst for worsening inflation worldwide. And, all this negativity will be evident by Summer. We are all going to starve by New Year’s 2025. You voted for this, enjoy poverty. Suckers and Losers, and now it will take down all of us
2024-11-27 0
Mark my words: mass deportations and tariffs are going to hurt us more than anyone. Trump’s antagonistic policies will not serve American in any way other than to keep us from moving forward. Drugs will continue to come in because demand won’t be solved. Inequality will increase because the poor will carry the expense of increased cost of goods. Infrastructure won’t get built and farms will lack labor because of lack of migration. People will remain undocumented because our immigration system sucks. Hateful people will become more hateful because they believed in lies and will seek a scapegoat.

Looks like Trump's tariff threat actually worked on Mexico. Dems and respondents below don't understand the power of deterrence and the leverage of using the US economy. Masterful job by Trump in getting Mexico to curtail illegal immigration, drug use, and human trafficking. There will be no tariff on Mexico
2024-11-27 0
she will not help to stop her people from getting into the US. impose tariff on Mexico now
2024-11-27 0
He's probably a businessman, lol. Imagine Canada, China, Mexico imposing tariffs on US goods. What do you think will happen to US economy? Kaboom!
2024-11-27 8
As a Canadian I applaud the Mexican President. If the US wants tariffs. Canada and Mexico can impose tariffs on the US too. ??
2024-11-27 0
If US want tariff, mexico is no match to US. Mexico would tank right up when it play against US. Look at china now when US pull out. Trump only need mexico to stop the illegal and do some show and you will be safe from Tariff. Trying to act tough is not going to do wonder to mexico.
2024-11-27 0
China is using Mexico to circumvent their US tariffs by getting Made in Mexico put on their cheaply made products. 25% is s too low!
2024-11-27 0
We all lost the election, but some of us don't realize it yet.\nThey will when food prices skyrocket due to trump’s tariffs and the lack of low-wage workers, who are the people who pick our fruit and veggies and work in the meat processing plants. FAFO.
2024-11-26 0
People have short memories. \nHe used the same exact threat he’s using now to bring Mexico and Canada to the negotiating table during his first term. Which is what lead to nafta being renegotiated into something more beneficial to the US. \n\nAsk yourselves. Why didn’t Biden reverse Trump era tariffs?
2024-11-26 0
Turns out the rest of the world can also implement tariffs on the US, and the US alone.
2024-11-26 2
Mexico is aiding and abetting this invasion by issuing temporary travel visas to migrants to cross through their country to the US border. If they overstay the temporary visa, they are deported from Mexico. What Trump should do is tell the Mexican leader to take back these 20 million that they let in, and after they do this, the 25% tariff will be lifted. Then once they take the 20 million back into Mexico, we should drop the 25% tariff and up the tariff to 50% to recoup the money we wasted on the illegals. They play dirty with us, so skrew em.
2024-11-26 0
Who cares if they put a tariff on us? We are a consumer nation. Stuff coming in, not really going out.
2024-11-26 0
please keep lying to the american ppl cnn.. midterms are in the bag for us, 2028 in the bag, supreme ct... in the bag... yeah the US is so scared of Mexico lmao. mexico is going to place tariffs on us? are you really that dumb
2024-11-26 0
I like how she got the audacity to say she will counter tariff the US.
2024-11-26 0
Mexico should respond with a 50% tariff on ALL US junk. Daniel from Abroad.
2024-11-26 0
Trump is an idiot and he's going to tank the Midwest red States producing farm products. Those farming red states export to those countries that trump will tariff and those countries are going to set their own tariffs on the US imported products including farm produce, auto goods etc. But hey they voted the idiot in and now they get what they get. ?
2024-11-26 0
this orange monkey is going to tariff everyone who will in turn tariff us back. it's lose-lose for everyone, revenues down for all.
2024-11-26 0
I'm old. You know how I know that for sure? I remember Laugh-in and I keep hearing Sock-It-To-Me, Sock-It-To-Me, Sock-It-To-Me. Tariff's arent' going to strengthen our trade negotiations with China. Quite the opposite. They'll just cut a better import deal with other countries. And it's not COUNTRIES that are ripping us off - it's CORPORATIONS. Trump wants you to believe it is countries so he can give tax cuts to corporations and dumb people won't know how badly that is screwing us over. It's like 'Over here is the REAL evil', not over there! Trust me! I'm your protector!!'
2024-11-26 0
Tariffs don't solve the illegal drug consumption in the United States neither stops the flow of weapons from the US to the cartels.
2024-11-26 0
Maybe the tariff will reshape Mexico's willingness to help us stop the illegals from coming over the border.
2024-11-26 0
The tariff wars are coming. This should be interesting. It's like the beginning of the 19th century when tariff wars accelerated us into the Great Depression. The Great Depression was in 1929. We are 5 years away from 2029. It's like history repeats itself.
2024-11-26 0
It hasn't dawned on Dumpy yet that tariffs work both ways, and US consumers will complain loudly and quickly!
2024-11-26 0
When Trump is put in office, he’s putting all of us at risk specially with China putting those tariffs Canada and Mexico have worked with us, but those other entities like North Korea, China, and other countries that don’t like us like Putin is.
2024-11-26 0
People are acting like Mexico has no one else to look to if the US keeps pushing them like this. China is always ready to make strategic partners and they are already bypassing their own tariffs via Mexico through NAFTA.
2024-11-26 1
?Liberals thinking that tariffs are going to destroy the US, like that has not already been happening for the last 4 years
2024-11-26 0
We need tariffs right now to slow down our spending and reduce inflation. Not only that, IMO this will be a temporary ouchy for US consumers but in the long run it’s going to benefit us if we stay strong. \nIf you notice, we have some of the best entrepreneurs in the world and many people here looking for the next opportunity. I’m sure we will find people to replace those imports and maybe eventually do it more efficiently and eventually affordable with coming technology.
2024-11-26 0
Stop wire transfers to Mexico from the US.....see how quick they come with hat in hand begging for more money. You always negotiate from a position of strength, never one of weakness. We are the worlds biggest consumer, we have the power and its time to use it. BTW a 10% -25% tariff on something that has a 300% markup is nothing.
2024-11-26 0
Now watch when trump supporters blame democrats cause tariffs raise prices. Not only does Trump want to climate migrant jobs, but he will eliminate all the money migrants and, yes, illegals spend on goods and services that greatly help our economy. We need Canada and Mexico more than they need us.
2024-11-26 0
Oh look , cnn pundits telling America illegal is not a problem…\n\nTelling us tariffs don’t work…::\n\nWhat other lies from CNN?
2024-11-26 0
It's called initial posturing. Mexico's done it before but they caved in big time and gave Trump what he wanted. The last thing Mexico wants is 25% tariffs on the goods they sell to the US.
2024-11-26 0
Yeah. Let's see how she likes 100% tariffs and a total ban on remittances. Mexico exports 30% of all exports to us, remittances are even more $. We export 1% of our exports to them.\n\nShe's a cartel pawn, and Mexico is a narcostate. This was stupid on their part, but unsurprising. Trump is going after the cartels. I am sure they are upset.
2024-11-26 0
All of a sudden we have to be careful of what Mexico’s president has to say? We are the strongest economy and we’ve been put to the test. We can do with or without. Tariffs mean better competition and manufacturing jobs to increase here in the US; more jobs = more money being earned and spent within our economy. What a slap on our American face with her statement when they’re the ones supplying the drugs. Let’s stop the consumption and see how well their economy and politics do.
2024-11-26 0
Scott Bessent: \n\n“Another differentiated view that we have is that Trump will pursue a weak dollar policy rather than implementing tariffs. Tariffs are inflationary and would strengthen the dollar--hardly a good starting point for a US industrial renaissance. Weakening the dollar early in his second administration would make U.S manufacturing competitive. A weak dollar and plentiful, cheap energy could power a boom. The current Wall Street consensus is for a strong dollar based on the tariffs. We strongly disagree. A strong dollar should emerge by the end of his term if the US reshoring effort is successful.”

Trump is the biggest Hypocrite in America!\nThis is a guy who’s merchandise, that he sells to his cult followers mainly comes from China, NOT THE US! Is he going to put a tariff on the crap he imported! Of course not!\nHis own daughter, in his first term, on an official visit to China, negotiated HUNDREDS of trademarks with CCP officials, whilst being an advisor of daddy’s administration! Which netted her and Jared millions of dollars in profits! Talk about republicans being massive HYPOCRITES, they should’ve investigated her! But the GOP have all become LICKSPITTLES, AND RING KISSERS to their Dear Leader!

The US has over a $100 billion deficit with mexico....our tariffs would hurt them quite a bit more.
2024-11-26 0
for those that don't understand tariffs. If I currently import a t-shirt from Mexico for 10.00 and sell it in the US for 15.00, I make 5 dollars in profit which I use to pay my staff and keep my business running. When Trump puts a 25% tariff on that t-shirt, it now costs me 12.50.You think I am going to eat 2.50 per t-shirt. No, I'm now going to charge you, the consumer, 17.50 for the same t-shirt because my cost of doing business has not gone down. You all really need to do some research and understand tariffs. I'm not moving my business to the US. I'm still getting the same amount of money for my products. The US consumer is footing the bill....
2024-11-26 0
If tariffs costs are not paid by the country they're placed on, then why would she care? It doesn't affect Mexico, it affects the US, so why not just say, go ahead you're not gonna hurt us in anyway and it's not gonna stop migrants or Americans from carrying drugs over the border. Trump needs to look at our laws if he wants to stop Americans from being drug mules..
2024-11-26 0
Hi everyone, Trump is trying to isolate us globally as a Russian asset would do. Of course Mexico, Canda, China, Europe, and other countries will simply work together to weaken the impact of US tariffs and target American exporters for particularly harsh tariffs. Everyone outside of Fox News warned the Trump supporters, but they chose the Russian asset
2024-11-26 0
Canada Mexico was simply put tariffs on everything imported by the US, and it's going to be hilarious to watch Trump voters suffer because they're just going to pay skyrocketing prices
2024-11-26 0
Mexico should begin restricting US Citizens access to Mexico, and Mexican Workers crossing the Border to engage in work in the US. See how long America will impose tariffs when they can't get labor for their companies that depend on the cross border workers to do their business. And American Tourists can't engage in their trips to Cancun etc,
2024-11-26 0
A train wreck is coming down the tracks. Tariffs will increase the cost of living in the US because the cost of paying it will come out our own pockets, not the foreign countries. They will only pass that cost onto us by reversed tariffs against the US. This proposal will only hurt the world economy and alienate our closest trading partners. We are now going to be ripped off by our own government.
2024-11-26 0
Equation is simple. Stop the flow of undocumented immigrants and illegal drugs into the US. Secure the border. Fight the cartels. The drug issue is a shared responsibility and Mexico needs to step up. 75000 americans die from drug overdoses every year. Tariffs are a means to end the fentanyl epidemic
