Thanks for the very informative video. I just got back from a week in Vancouver and saw so many drug addicts and homeless people when I drove through East Vancouver on my way to Gastown. Years ago when I drove this same area, I didnt see this problem. What the heck happened? Is the U.S. rubbing off in Canada. Crime, drugs, homeless people, and criminals seem to have migrated from the U.S. to Canada. Anyway, I was contemplating buying a house in Coaquitlam and retiring there for 6 months out if every year. Now, my eyes are open to what it would really be like. Still better than the U.S., crime wise, but the prices are high. Gas equivalent was $7.50 PER gallon. Food was more. Walmart was more. Starting January 1, 2023 no foreigner can buy property in Canada for 2 years.

I'm currently a Chinese undergrad in the US on F1 (student visa) and my cousin is one of the lucky people who had a STEM OPT extension and got H1B on their first lottery. Witnessing her experience made me want to go to a Canadian grad school instead of an American one: she's been on her H1B for over 4 years without having been able to leave the country due to visa issues, yet she's nowhere close to getting a green card - she told me, just like those mentioned in the video, that she will move to Canada if there's still no sign of obtaining a green card in a couple of years.\nI'd also like to thank you for making this video and spreading awareness of how difficult the American system is. As international students, things about immigration are like second nature to us, and we often forget that most people in the country we're migrating to have no idea of the process.

I know correlation does not equal causation but you do not even examine the possibility that the far higher salaries in America in certain sectors like tech compared to those in Canada might at least partly be the result of having a more restrictive immigration policy for workers in those sectors in America compared to in Canada. The same possibility does also occur when it comes to the relatively much higher cost of housing in Canada. This possibility is to a relatively neutral (British) observer such an obvious logical possibility that I'm afraid I'm going to have to ding pretty hard this otherwise pretty good video for not addressing it. You start with a supposition - the American immigration system is broken and the Canadian system is great - but the facts that you produce in the video, assuming that the point of immigration is to raise living standards, seem to exactly contradict your supposition?!?

The analysis of the US system is easily digestible, but incomplete. It presents only one category in the US employment based system (EB-2), that has a very long wait for Indian nationals, while other like EB-1 was current (no wait) until recently. It also presents an employer applying for a green card as the only option, whereas there are exceptions (waivers) for individuals with exceptional ability in the same category (NIW). Overall, robust story telling, omission of facts, biased towards the journey of Indian immigrants in the US and in favor of the Canadian system, but overall a fun video to watch.

Canada is not the only county seeing this, and the US not the only country turning it's back on the benifits of immigration. You could have made the exact same video about Ireland vs the UK (except wages in Ireland are far high rather than lower than the UK) Here in Ireland we have long benefitted a great level of immigration fuelling rapid economic growth but since 2016 with Brexit, Trump ect. making it clear that immigrents aren't welcome in some other counrties we have seen a whole new type of immigrent from countries like Mexico where recent graduates seaking work experence in English pick Ireland rather than the US or UK as we have a better immigration system but also a culture which welcomes immigration as an endorcment of our country. Here the more you are proud of you country and culture the more you go out of your way to welcome immigrents who are the living embodyment of your belief that we are the greatest counrty in the world, not the welcome immigrents can expect from nationalists in the US or UK. The big winners here are countries like Canada & Ireland who have recognised that in the 21st Century it's not coal, iron or even oil that brings wealth but rather being able to attract the best & brightest talent in the world.

As someone who thinks immigration is too high, this video is certainly an experience. It's basically just \n*Canada is far more accepting of immigrants than the US\n*Here are the negative effects of that on Canada (low wages, insane house prices)\n*that means we have to change US policies, cuz computers weren't even invented yet!1!1!\nI like it honestly. I like how nobody sees an issue with Canada's population being overtaken by immigrants. Immigrants who found a country are not the same as immigrants coming to be parasites on social programs. The leader of the NDP Jagmeet Singh recently stated these policies are failing Indians coming for prosperity, but are sleeping on the streets. I find videos like this extremely alarming in that it promotes this idea that for a country to be good, we have to open our borders and let whoever come. Please go to canada and look for yourself.

I have mixed feelings about this video. This video does a good job outlining the immigration process but it does not highlight any of the negative consequences of immigration that Canada is experiencing. One of the main reasons why cost of living is so high in Toronto and Vancouver is precisely because we have so many immigrants coming in without enough housing supply. This is by design because politicians and the upper class have a vested interest in keeping real estate prices high because so much of their net worth is tied up in the housing market.\n\nAnother negative is that employers hire immigrants working low skilled jobs and pay them less than Canadians because the immigrants are willing to be taken advantage of since they're just happy to have a job in Canada which pays better than their country. \n\nAnother myth that gets repeated is that Canadian takes immigrants out of compassion and unfortunately a lot of Canadians believe this. It was never about compassion, it's about bringing more people to 1) pay taxes to support our social welfare as Canadian birth rates decline and boomers retire, 2) keep housing costs high and 3) pay immigrants lower wages for the same work because immigrants are fine being exploited since they have a job in a first world country.\n\nAnother problem is the cultural shift. In the most immigrant-dense regions you'll find that many immigrants themselves surprisingly don't want more immigrants coming to Canada because they see these negative consequences. The people who are most pro-immigration have no problem cramming 8+ people in a basement and exploiting their labour because they make enough money to live in communities that immigrants can't afford, and so they don't have to deal with the cultural shift that's taking place. This is NOT the fault of immigrants, but rather the politicians who put economic growth over quality of life. Over HALF the people in the GTA weren't born in Canada, so they didn't go through our school system and have no connection to our culture. Canada is unfortunately going to become very racist over the next 10-20 years as Canadians start feeling like outsiders in their own country. It's somehow considered racists to criticize the effect of multiculturalism on social unity, yet the cultures we accept in Canada only became distinct cultures because of monoculturalism.

As an international student to the US, it's all so extremely stressful as mentioned by this video. First, after you graduate you have 90 days to find a job before being deported. Then, when you do find a job, you can only work for a year unless you're stem, then you can work for another company for another 2 years. Then there's the H1-B. Suffice to say, the lottery system is completely random. It doesn't matter how smart you are or how talented you are, H1-B is a lottery and you could get screwed over at any moment.\n\nIf you so much as dare to be unemployed (like in the recent tech firings), you have 90 days to find a new job before you're deported. Also h1-B only lasts for 6 years. Also moving companies on H1-B is a really hard ask. \n\nIt's all too cruel. Even I am considering moving to Canada myself.

This video is a joke with an agenda. If America let in people as easily as Canada did and in the same proportion to its population could it not end up having the same housing crisis? People have done studies and found if they threw citizenship at certain people they'd be voting around 70% Democrat. Where the government sets these people up also determines election outcomes. Imagine being born in America and living there your entire life. There are politicians that feel no obligation to change your mind and win your vote. They would rather reward criminals for their crimes to win an election than actually make a case for electing them to law abiding American citizens.

I usually really like PolyMatter but this video is clearly biased and missing important details. \n\nWhat this video does not talk about is that we already have millions of H1B in this country competing for jobs with American citizens; go into any IT department of most banks, and you will find mostly H1B workers. Walking into any major university career fair, you will see the predatorial scene of hordes of foreign master students competing against American bachelors for the same new grad jobs; with many of the foreign students already having real career experience in their own country competing against inexperienced American young adults. \n\nThis video also does not mention the H1B lottery is not a single-try event. Everyone is given 3 tries and it refreshes if you get another American degree. \n\nLastly, this video does not mention the fact that people not on American soil could also apply for the H1B lottery which contributes further to the low rate. \n\nComparing pays between companies was ridiculous in this video's context. Google L3 in America should be compared with Google L3 in Canada, which are not very different in pay, after adjusting for the cost of living.\n\nIn terms of the country cap, just because some countries happen to have more people than other countries, it's not America's problem to solve; America has to do what is in the best interest of America. In this case, America simply decided to prioritize diversity in yearly admittees.

Lol All of the benefits you listed at the start of your video about living in the US, Canada has. We have McDonalds and Starbucks everywhere too, we have amusement parks, and job opportunities. As a Canadian, any time I travel to the US I am like concerned about gun violence. When I interact with someone in Canada I can be pretty confident they are not carrying a gun, or have a gun in their car. I still travel there though.

I really hope you read these comments Tyler. You are so blinded by the American propaganda machine and I really suggest you at least do some travelling out of country for a prolonged period of time to see how the rest of the world really is. I hope some of these harsher comments at least open your eyes. I am born and raised Canadian who used to spend about a month a year in the states and now I can’t say I’ll go back. The gun violence just in the last few years is sickening. Having bad places to live doesn’t apply to the US anymore, everywhere is bad to live and it’s only a matter of time before the reality comes to YOUR small town. I live in Québec, borned and raised here too. I would NEVER move to USA. There is no good reason to do that. As a woman, I would fear for my safety, my health and my rights on my body. Sorry to hear about your struggled days in Australia but seems like because of the struggle you guys have kept lot of misconceptions in your mind. I do fully respect what you said but lot of misinformation half truth about Australia has been said in this video. Also, I checked with 3 different generations in my family (educated in 2 different provinces) and each one reports that in grade school geography we all learned about each state, capitals and it's location in USA....and the other countries in the world. As a Canadian who lived in the US (and all over the US) for over five years, I just wanted to comment on this video. \n\nIn your video, you seem to be shocked with Canadians reactions to school shootings and health care in the US. Much like Americans paint all of Canada with one brush, Canadians do the same. We watch American news channels more than Canadian news channels, and we read news from American sources more than Canadian sources. American news really is designed to scare people, and Canadians are easily scared! Not all of us consume only American news sources, but most of us do, and that’s just simply based on the fact that Google, Facebook, CNN, ABC, etc. are American companies. Yes of course there are safe communities and cities in the US, and yes of course if you have a good job you probably don’t have to worry much about health care.\n\nDuring my time in the US, I lived in Miami, Chicago and Seattle. I didn’t like Miami. It’s kind of another world down there. Seattle was ok. Chicago though… I absolutely loved living there. And if given the opportunity, that is where I would live for the rest of my life. People will say “Chicago! It’s so violent and problems blah blah”, but like you said, there are areas, even in big cities, that are super safe and fun to live in. \n\nI live in Toronto now, and I wouldn’t hesitate to move back to Chicago if given the opportunity. The food scene, the music scene, the sports scene, and the unbelievably friendly people. Such a great town.\n\nAnyway, love the videos. Keep it up!
