A long time back when I started working in Mumbai I came to know from a localite that a license is required for Kirpan! I was so surprised as I was from Punjab and to me that seemed really absurd. But later I understood other people don’t understand our religion and that we are NOT engaging in any fight with Kirpan…even after others are educated of our religion it is better we don’t display Kirpan in public and follow the rules of that state or country.

I even got suprised when one of my friend showed it when i asked about it, never even knew he had with him. I hate to say it; but we all have to (and should) follow the law of the land. \n\nI don’t know what the rules are in North Carolina, but if a ceremonial knife is still considered a weapon, and is not allowed inside a college campus (I would also hope that guns aren’t allowed either, but with the US you never know) then the rule should apply to everyone - religious symbolism notwithstanding.\n\nEdit: And let me clarify; when I see a Sikh with a kirpan I personally feel safer.
