sadly it was common before. luckily it is reasonably rare nowadays. It is common in the embassies of Asian countries. But 'First World Countries ' do the same. You even loose your monney. My friend applied 3 times for USA visa. Firts time it was canceled because it was 1 usd more paid for the fees. It happened because of exchange rates. It was more not less. The application was canceled for this reason. So Yes embassies love hassling people.

Just Half news. FYI US and Canada signed safe country pact for not just some entry ports but whole border. So if someone comes via Canada they will be sent back without any hearing if they are caught or if they apply for Asylum.

Canadian government brought millions of Visitor visa holder, who applied for asylum. They approved just anyone in 2023-2024. But, they made it difficult to get PR for the skilled people, they made Express Entry so difficult these days. Looks like, they want criminals from around the world, but hate honest and educated people. It's now backfiring Canada.

I don't see how European refugee status would apply here. Once they've reached Turkey or another neighbour, they are safe from the war they were running from. If they want to go further to Europe, they can apply to do so legally. The only legitimate refugees in Europe are Ukrainians.

We just left Canada 2 weeks ago. Now we’re in the US. Canada has gotten worse for the last few years or decades according to some. When we applied for Canada, all the prosperity was promising. It was like second or third option behind the US and UK. And now, after 7 years, we have decided to really act and do what’s best for our family and the future of our kids. The main reasons why we left Canada, it’s the high and doubled taxes, the very slow healthcare, you get to start to zero despite your decades of managerial experience, they don’t honor your diploma cuz they have their own standard even if your education or work is US standard, the housing and rentals are skyrocketing. Imagine if the rentals are increasing every year by $50-150 is insane. It’s just so inhumane. Back in my birth country in the Philippines, if you’re poor or low income family..the government don’t tax you. You get a high percentage of healthcare assistance and you also get some free social services including monthly allowance from the national government and another separate assistance from the local government. Canada is beautiful if you have money with all the good and kind people around, but the expenses, it’s gonna kill your pocket.

I personally met over 10 people who came as a visitor and they apply for refugees at the airport and now they get OHIP, welfare and all the benefits, and not to forget a free lawyer

We had not communicated in a long time BUT... I think you were surprized how much you enjoyed to exploration of Russia a few years ago but quality of life was very good then but even better now, but retaining the unmatched access to culture, very low cost of living much lower crime rate than Canada/US/Europe, and cost of living about 1/10th of Canada, great health and easy to get a residency and citizenship due to being from Ukraine originally. For your travels, it is a little more complicated due to US sanctions but from here in St Petersburg it is really easy to travel by bus to Estonia and fly anywhere in the world. Estonia is the cheapest cost of living in the Baltic. I have flown to California several times using that route and to London the flight is $50 euros. \nAlthough you explored a lot here there is so much more to see and experience.\nThere is no doubt the western countries that relied on cheap labor and resources from colonies are all in a downward spiral and the east is rising. All the BRICS countries have positive growth in quality life and economic growth and a total of 108 countries have either applied or expressed serious interest in joining the largest trade block in history while the US empire fades at an accellerating rate. I would not go back the the crime, homelessness, anger, poverty of the US but have family business to take care of every 4-5 years. Since 10 years i am working in Germany as engineer. After 8 years i had to apply for the citizenship. I could apply after 8 years and since 2 years there is even no one short answer. The process is not transparent and not easy.?

The power of our canadian passport is regressing. During COVID I had to use my Mexican passport to enter Korea as they weren't letting Canadians in due to a small political spat, I get e-visa when entering Egypt which Canadians don't get and about 6 months ago I had to apply for an Indian visa using my Mexican passport again because India blocked Canadians from applying. This was understandable as Canada had a diplomatic spat with India but it was NOT understandable that we didn't block off Indian visa applications at the same time. We are essentially letting others walk all over us. also the embassy services for Canadians are absolutely god damn terrible and feels like I have to beg them to actually do their damn job.

You should seriously consider El Salvador. I moved here in late 2022. Best move I've ever made! From Poland. Arrived yo Canada at the end of 2020. I am nearing my 4th year here, in a small village. I arrived with my 6-year-old daughter to begin my writing career. Now, 40% of my daughter's childhood has been spent here and I I go to court soon to fight for my child to be returned home to me. After nearly one year- a year of financial hardship because I have to travel without a driver's license and without a group of friends to drive me- I have my very first hearing with a judge in Youth Court in a matter that has no foundation to begin with, follows no rule of law, and acts arbitrarily. My child whom I homeschooled to the praise of the provincial ministry of education and was following a classical liberal arts education path that had her outpacing students in the province was entrusted to the care of a Child Services company (that has a record of placements that have resulted in child murders). My child's life has been irrevocably upset to say the least. NO ONE LEAVING CANADA GIVES THIS STORY AS A RESON FOR QUITTING THIS COUNTRY. I guess no Canadians care about their children like I do my precious gift from God. True, O come from the former Soviet Union where Marshal Law (Emergency Measures Act) were commonplace. I lived through two in Canada in 4 years: one Federal, and one through Provincial Youth Court where I await my turn to see a judge after my daughter was removed from my care. People do not know they have no biological ownership of their children, because I guess few Canadians value their children to care about their own laws. But these laws also apply to immigrants too. What money was taken from me during the move and resettlement, the government takes by creating more expenses for me than I could ever imagine or budget for. Emotionally, I am a wreck. Rather than commencing my writing career, I have been seeking low-income lawyers, reading the provincial law on Youth Protection, filing complaints within a circular system (the watchdog is part of the system not outside of it) and preparing all evidence to prove I have done nothing wrong [just like in communist rule]. Have you ever given any thought to the difficulties in proving your innocence? \nNO ONESEEMS AWARE OF THIS DETERENT TO BRINGING CHILDREN TO CANADA. NO ONE. IT IS THE ONLY ONE I COULD NOT PLAN FOR. People ask me in this small village where is my daughter. Their rosy cheeks become snow white when I tell them. Canadians here are unaware and scared like cattle in a thunder storm. Many are addicted to welfare payments, cannabis, prescription drugs, and television. They all seem to be waiting in a pen of fear. I am stuck here now, with little financial resource to fight for my child's life. It is unfortunate that no one will read my comment because it is an inscrutable wall of text or too frightening. Unless someone reads it, no help will come for my daughter. (Because she is a dual citizen, the local Polish Ambassador will not step in - another drawback for having a Canadian passport). It's just really sad for the babies & children that get pushed into it by their parents. No child should die or drown because of pushbacks. Think EU needs a new system, either a centre outside of Europe where you can only apply there, and others are sent there or send back to their country. Countries that don't allow it, will be out of trade, business and no more international help until they take those back. Time to prevent, and not kill.

Since my mother was German when I was born, I just recently found out that I'm also a German citizen from birth through descent through my mother. I've been living here in the US since high school when I moved from Victoria to Tucson, Arizona. I eventually got my US green card (permanent residency. I then moved to Madison, Wisconsin and became a US Citizen. At this point, I am a dual US and Canadian citizen in addition to being German citizen as well. I am applying for my confirmation of German citizenship through the German consulate in Chicago which would then allow me to obtain a German passport for access to live and work freely in EU and Schengen countries. I went to The Netherlands last January and I really feel in love with the Dutch culture and lifestyle. I am planning on spending at least a few years there as soon as I get my German passport. \nMy relatives in Canada keep telling me how lucky I am to be a US Citizen as they all say how terrible the situation has become in Canada. I am surprised since I've always considered Canada to be one of the top places to live in the world. I haven't lived in Canada for a long time and I've been doing relatively good here in the USA. I'm experiencing something similar, I wanted to travel when I was younger and even did tourism at university but never ended up having the means to do it and family dependent on me financially. That's changed in the last year but I then came to a realisation when looking at buying a home, why buy here when I can emigrate like I used to think about? Even if I didn't like it in the end it would be a working holiday, and I'd have more opportunity to travel as well. Saving some more money up then applying next year, think I'd regret not doing it.

As an international student, I'm studying in a uni of applied sciences, I have a German friend whom I am teaching English, because I'm fluent in English. There was a mandatory subject in our course regarding English. I know my friend, he cannot speak 2 sentences in English without making a single grammatical error, and he admits that. Still somehow the teacher gave him 80% in the English exam, and gave me 63% in the exam. I saw the grading, his grading was extremely lenient and mine was extremely harsh. Even my German friend said that he's surprised with the grading and thinks it's unfair. \n\nSo these are the reasons I don't wish to stay in Germany. If you want skilled immigrants to contribute to your social system and boost your economy, the least you could do is be nice to us.

As a Canadian I have to agree with much of what you said but it mostly applies to the big cities like Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal where most immigrants like to move. One is more likely to find sociable people and loser housing prices in smaller communities on the Prairies, East Coast and Northern Territories but of course the weather might be more severe and the employment opportunities not as numerous although there may not be as much competition for them either.

Still, Canada can provide you a strong passport. I suppose you never experience the pain of having to apply a visa to every country you go except Singapore.

There are many countries in the EU that are poorer then Germany (e.g., Portugal, Greece, etc). Why don't we see more migration within the EU itself in order to fill these open positions? It seems like it would be way easier to recruit from within the EU since there would be no need to apply for visas.
