We’ve been struggling for years and it’s not fair for those who come here being told it’s paradise and they’ll make all the money they want when it’s not true. It’s fraudulent

Capitalist greed is making life tough for everyone. Immigration is not to problem. If you think new comers to Canada are the cause of your economic woes then the billionaire class has won yet again.

Canada has a serious problem dealing with a large influx of migrants coming from India. I am American who just traveled to Toronto last week and noticed Indians are everywhere, literally everywhere. It makes me wonder why so I looked into some statistics which showed the number of immigrants coming into Canada from India is equivalent to the number of immigrants coming from many other countries combined. Immigration itself is fine but why importing so many people from one particular country India - this is the question Canadian citizens should ask their government

The immigrants who come here on student visa and do 3 jobs to survive are not a problem. Problem are those who pay big $ to come in. They are the ones who launder their money through Canadian real estate and make Canadian living costs rise. They use Canadian real estate market for speculation and live off flipping houses and condos. They did the same in countries they came from after they earned their money through smuggling illegal staff. Book Crazy Rich Asians explains it well.

This reckless irresponsible government has sold the wrong Canadian dream to many already in the country. I hope the next government finds a solution and make some drastic changes to the immigration policies.

The wealth taken from the people, usually funneled through large mega-companies where people get many of their basic needs met, does not stay in the neighborhoods and does not go into infrastructure, jobs training, and other programs that would actually raise the standard and ease of living. \n\nInstead the wealth is concentrated, finacialized, and a small portion is given to politicians to keep the system functioning exactly as it is for the wealthy at the expense of regular people. Increased immigration only makes the lack of these basic services more apparent.

Make no mistake, Trudeau and his liberal government got Canada into this mess (as they always do), and now they can't figure out what to do about it. Liberals will put the needs of immigrants above their own citizens.

********Important**********************Since I've been living in Canada for more than two years, the immigration protests you mentioned have occurred. To put it briefly, everyone moves to different provinces for PR, just like I did when I studied in Toronto for two years. The CRS score for PR is significantly higher there, and there aren't as many easy possibilities, therefore students there relocate. The protest is taking place in Prince Edward Island, where I moved a few months ago. They are protesting for the extension of their work permit and the opening of those easy PR draws, which are currently paused. I moved here in order to obtain PR, but I worry that this protest is inappropriate. Because everyone must submit a statement of purpose (SOP) when applying for a visa to Canada, and in that statement you clearly indicate that you will return to your home country after completing your studies and working there. However, if this statement is not clear, the visa officer may reject your application, stating that they believe you will not return home after completing your studies and working there. In order to avoid having our visa applications denied, we always attempt to assure the officer that we will return home. You have no right to request a PR, an extension of your work visa, or anything else if you have made this statement of purpose plain on your own. If you're thinking about moving to Canada, always make sure that the government is in charge. When I planned, getting our PR was simple, and now that they've changed the laws and regulations, they have rights as immigrants, so nobody should fight against getting PR and a work visa, etc.

Honestly as an Immigrant I was definitely lied to by the country of Canada, and tbh this concern is lined with racism to an extent, but there are some valid concern for the most part. \n\nCanadian universities came to me high school, one of the academically successful high schools on my island and tried to take every single high performing student. Also I lived in Toronto, the biggest issue is NOT immigration, the issue is the fact that they are tearing down cultural institutions to build condos. condos are a bigger problem than immigrants. Canada is pricing Canadians out of housing, then blaming immigrants. I'm an immigrant to Canada. I've been here for 35 years (came here when I was 6). The current immigration/migration/ayslum seeker rates have gone completely insane. It isn't racist to think it's gone overboard. I went to very very multicultural schools. I grew up in Toronto and have lived downtown for 20 years now. I love our multiculturalism but there are limits to immigration if there simply isn't an infrastructure to support countless hundreds of thousands of people trying to move into the city each year. It's not sustainable at all. The roads aren't getting bigger, the housing zoning isn't getting easier, new hospitals aren't being built. You cannot try and cram 4 million people in a city built for like 2 million people. People moving to Canada simply do not realize just how absurdly expensive this place has become. What's the better alternative being poor in India or being poor in Canada? Because unless you are making 100k a year you are going to basically be poor in Toronto.\n\nThe big big difference as someone who has lived downtown Toronto for 20 years is now the homeless are very multicultural. 10 years ago it wasn't like that as much. Now people from every race and every background are at risk of homelessness. It's a rate race, it's a very competitive city for housing and jobs and as soon as you aren't in making $$$$$ you will fall behind.

As a Canadian I can say I have no issue with immigrants or anyone trying to seek a better life as I am the son of immigrants. My issue is with our government taking in way more than our economy and infrastructure can handle at a time where it's already under strain. \n\nAdd to the fact they're almost all from the same race, it makes certain areas lose all diversity and a ripe ground for racist sentiments. It's not uncommon where I can be in a grocery store or restaurant and every single customer and cashier is an Indian. At the very least let's diversify where we are taking them all in from. \n\nThe cynical side of me makes me think they are desired by corporations because these people are seen as an easy resource to exploit since they're willing to put up with more and receive less.

Work-life balance - don’t have to work 12 hours for Pennies\n13. Thriving Stable Economy\n14. Long immigration process - doesn’t allow every criminal in\n15.. Variety of foods: thanks to all the multi-cultures in Canada\n\nThese are just a few, sorry your personal experience was bad, very sorry, but that’s your personal experience and Canada isn’t as you make it seem out to be. This is disgusting to listen to. No country on Earth wants millions of immigrants flooding in getting welfare to the moon and being a statistic of crime cause by these immigrants. No one wants that. What makes anyone think they do? They are all going to get to vote. Just watch. They just crossed our border, got welfare better than citizens, and will get to vote. Whoever is doing this to Europe and the USA should be in jail or dealt with per the constitution for treason. Unfortunately the swamp is too much. We have too much corruption in our governments. Time to start realizing this and we are going to have to make a change because protesting and trying to vote isn't cutting it when they rigg things against you and demonize you for not being okay with this garbage they are shoving down your throat.\nAt no point has anyone in my family filled out a green card or visa. I have no idea what it is like to be an immigrant. I can't get that perspective because I have never been one and neither has anyone in my family. But coming from my perspective this is some BS. Where did it come from? Why is it happening now of all times? What are these people being told? nobdy is stopping canada to make new housing infact its job creation opportunity but it is not making affordable public housing for new immigrants and creating problems for itself instead of utilising the migrants to grow its economy by gnerating more income generation opporuttnities by developing new cities north of canada by giving incentives like fixed minimum awages for 5yr money, pr after 10yr of continous living, etc. to new migrant by promoting new public universities in provices located north of canada along with making lives costly in existing cities in provinces in south of canada along the US border. for new migrants by limiting population and housing in city as per Un standards for minimum living conditions.

first i am an immigrant for 20 years. i see the problem has been rising. \nthe problem is not just immigrant, its the overseas students also. Gov try to solve the issue but they are doing it blindly. the problem are those small schools that focus on making school as a business and let people get working visa. \nwe need doctors and nurses so badly. why cant we take more doctors and nursing, have universities specifically train then. we can also have golden visa and wealthy immigrants to come in . we dont just need cheap labour, we also need money. \n\ni cant wait for next election to vote this gov out!

The Trudeau Liberals have used immigration to keep top line GDP numbers high. What people don’t talk about are GDP per capita figures falling below 2014 levels. Canada is way overrated. I've spent so many years living there and now I am back in my country of birth. I regret immigrating to Canada 20 years ago. All those years that I've spent living in Canada I consider as waste of time. It turns out that I can make more money in my country of birth than in Canada. And it's safer than Canada. Western countries like Canada or US are just overhyped.

I have been (mostly) a life long Liberal living in Toronto. I can honestly say, the Trudeau Liberal government has been the worst government at any level I have lived under - including Mike Harris and Bob Rae. Justin Trudeau likes to cut ribbons and make big announcements and spend time on the completely wrong priorities for Canadians. We need a government focused on the economy and the things it takes to build a thriving 21st century economy. Yes, it takes immigrants and those people will need the basics: a job, food, shelter and services. Instead we get dental care, pharm care, daycare - all these things we can't afford and that do very little to build out a thriving economy we need. We have lost decades due to poor planning of our governments and now we all must suffer. It will take generation to fix this, meanwhile our competing countries will all pass us. I will rue Justin Trudeau and his incompetent Ministers and enablers for the rest of my life.

It's not just about lack of resources; it's about making sure that new immigrants are willing to accept Canadian values. That means tolerance and respect

Whatever you think, be kind to immigrants so they don't go down a wrong path when they are here. They make a desparate sacrifice to be here and will not integrate if people are hostile.

Government should build more housing like Singapore. Instead they take “donations” from private developers. They should also make sure immigrants have the means to survive in Canada before granting any permits.

How do you call it scapegoating immigration for the housing shortage? Is it the biggest issue? Yes. You can't increase the population by 8 million people in a decade and not expect it to stretch not only housing but Healthcare as well. It doesn't make you a racist to be upset about that. Sure the infrastructure needed to be increased but that has to be paid for in advance of immigrants coming and with so many people on the poverty line who should pay for that? You make it seem like it's our duty to take in and provide all the services necessary, it's not. I immigranted 30y ago. Was at Grad school at Canadian university. The level now is insane. So many are low skill. Doesn't make sense.

Canada used to have a fairly sane immigration policy - immigrants needed to have a level of education and/or skills that would contribute to areas of Canada's economy and growth - skills or education in fields where there was need for people. Part of the problem now is that so many people are allowed in as refugees, with no usable or useful skills. Another part of the problem is that Canada does not have the infrastructure to accommodate so many more people - we should first build the infrastructure, then allow just the number of people we can house and employ. Another policy should be that our local and provincial governments should have decision making authority where immigrants settle. Huge influxes of people into already crowded urban centers makes no sense - immigrants need to be told what areas of Canada they may go to.\n\nNo culture or group can maintain identity and stability if overwhelmed by large numbers of outsiders. We should limit immigration to the number of foreign cultures and languages that can be successfully integrated into our society.

Odd that Guardian makes a video on anti-immigration sentiments in Canada, while their own country burns on anti-immigration riots! ?

It all comes down to how many babies Canada makes versus the cost of social services. We have anti-family systems, crushing living costs and aging population. Our socialist system needs tax dollars to fund “free healthcare” and other election promises that require funding. So, Canada realized this, and the bandaid approach is to fill the country with young immigrants. To hear this is about population growth is flat out, wrong.

It's multifaceted. Liberals opened up the flood gates with policies making it very easy for people to immigrate to Canada and increased immigration numbers. It's no longer tied to what Canada can support based on services, resources, and housing. It's simply: Come on in. Second, I've watched a few videos on Youtube showing how immigration is almost a form of trafficking at this point. Immigration companies are making money hand over fist promising the moon to students and people who want a better life and when these poor people get here they end up in crowded lodging with horrible job prospects. A lot of this goes back to the government laxing immigration policies and not being firm on how much we can bring in. This tsunami of immigration has impacted health services, governmental services, and the lives of Canadians. We need to do this smart or not at all. It's frustrating and the frustration needs to be put where it's due, on government and policy but it's also impacting the people and community around us. :( It really isn't the Canada of 10 years ago.

This documentary conveniently doesn’t report on the corrupt Indian immigration agents back in India not telling hopeful immigrants the truth about Canada. These immigration reps forge documents and are paid by hopeful clients to facilitate their settling in Canada. The aim of the documentary appears to be intended to make Canadians feel guilty about something.

I can't help but think that the phrase 'a country of immigrants' is just a sneaky way of saying 'a country of colonialism'. I dont know that much accountability or reconciliation has happened in Canada over the last 300 years. It began with governments and corporations doing whatever they wanted and could do to make money and extract resources off of this land (regardless of whom it affected), and continues to be just that. The increase of immigrants is largely, as far as I know, being used to a) bring in more revenue and economic stimulus (which is more and more ending up in the hands of a few very wealthy families) and b) fuel the labour force of large corporations that would rather soak the profits up themselves, hire low-wage PR or temporary foreign worker labour, than pay Canadian residents properly to work those jobs. I love immigrants, have many 1st gen immigrants friends, and think they do bring a lot to Canada. We all do, as we were all immigrants at some point. At the same time, the immigration system is very complicit in looking at immigration as a resource in aiding those rich families/ corporations in colonialism, and you could argue that this overreliance is abuse of the immigration system. Certainly, we have seen this with colleges. This feels especially true over the last several years with huge jumps in immigration numbers with growing inequality for long term residents. So the result is a very quickly changing world that is not helping many Canadians feel more secure about their future, which is a recipe for unrest. Am I wrong? Genuinely I am looking to have an open discussion here!

The woman at 7:34 is spot on. Instead of asking the government to make housing more accessible and affordable, people tend to blame immigrants who have nothing to do with housing prices. The government chose to support megacorporations in the private sector to lug their weight around and buy up housing like gluttonous beasts. CANADIAN Megacorps like all megacorps will always act in their best interest which is profit. Therefore canadians airing out racism against random immigrants who have nothing to do with housing is missing the point entirely.
