Well. There are thousands of permanent residents from Canada who got stranded around the world in the pandemic. The travel restrictions Canada put in place for permanent residents are far out of line. I was at the airport the last week before airports got closed. I had even my return ticket printed out, checked online in. At the airport, I was told, with some other PR’s that as a PR we were not allowed to board the plane! Seriously? What country does this? For myself, I couldn’t return to Canada for 1.5 years! Panic in the first couple of weeks. Calling the Canadian embassy every week. Even asking if Canada had a way to extend the Permanent residency visa at the embassy available. No. If you are longer than 2 years away from Canada, you CANNOT RENEW YOUR PERMANENT RESIDENCY CARD! Well. Lucky me, I didn’t had to work. After 14 years of working and living in Canada, I just had enough from a country that is telling none Canadians that we are people of 2nd class. And no. I am not from India. I’m from Germany and we cannot have a 2nd passport like other countries. I just got rid of everything in Canada. I stayed in Panama. Renewed last year my German passport. Got a “lifetime” residency visa in Panama. Don’t have to be worried about heating costs anymore. It is warm year around. Maybe it was a good thing that Canada gave me the “2nd class human” feeling. That’s when you figure out in times of emergency what countries do for immigrants. Canada was one of a handful countries in the pandemic who blocked permanent residence card owners from returning!

The liberals have been using immigrants for a while now to prop up the economy and buy votes, eventually the Ponzio scheme would start to fall apart and we are starting to see that now. I've always planned on staying a Canadian my whole life... but today... Canada is no longer Canada. Canadiens are almost a minority in there own country. We have very large cities that we are a minority in. There is so much hate towards white people. It seems like one of the only viable ways to make money was to work in the city and commute from the surrounding area which is hours of your life wasted and not spent working or making money. \n\nBut even this is no longer as good of a plan because of thr housing crisis. Expensive rent and house prices in big cities like Toronto made a lot of people move out and the rents have risen in the surrounding area where there is less high paying jobs.

I was born and raised in Toronto and lived 57 years there. 6 months ago, I moved to Saskatchewan having never visited before. I'm ashamed of Toronto. It's not what it was. I outgrew it and although I have good memories of what it once was, it no longer is. And I will forever tell everyone it's not even worth the visit.

Moved to Toronto 9 years ago, now planning to move out of Ontario due to high crime, crazy drivers who love to tailgate and expensive compared to my birth place, Montreal Quebec. Back in the early 80's Toronto was the place to reside in, but no longer.

As a once proud Canadian who served in the forces for 21 years, I no longer feel that way. This country has lost it's way and is not getting any better, now at 65 years of age am also thinking about leaving this country for good.

Left in 2016, writing was on the wall, I was lucky to get out when I did. Many of my freinds and family members are now economically trapped. I have a small monthly income and could not have survived without staying employed which i no longer wished to do (60 yrs). I dont know how Canada can sustain that level of inflation. I was a gay kid who ran away to Toronto in 1982, age 17. Minimum wage was $4/hr and a bachelor at Church and Charles was $350, a one bedroom was $400 - $425. I had a relatively successful career as a pianist/entertainer and teacher at the Y. I was never able to purchase, but rented as the real estate prices only lept and bounded as interest rates on savings declined. I can no longer afford to live in TO, but bought a 100 acre farm in Parry Sound District by cutting a cheque. I have no community... and my cohort as all approaching 60... but the Toronto of the 80's and 90's no longer exists. The discos are gone, the kids today have no appreciation of ACT or Casey House or the hell we went through. But, the virus is controlled... I am rambling, but the city is no longer a place where young disenfranchised can go to be free to exist and be themselves. I worry about the kids of today who will never have enough money to leave home and go to where life can happen. And don't tell me that a cell phone is a replacement for a physical, real existence!!

I respect your decision to leave based on misalignment of values and other factors you cited. I wish newcomers would be aware of these things before they moved to Canada. It is dirty, not well-kept, has a serious problem with homeless people and customer service is non-existant any where. Food prices are insane, rents are crippling people and as a pensioner I never have any money at the end of the month (and I was a teacher and owned my own home). It is no longer the place I knew and loved, and I wish I could leave.

Canada is a joke. Canadian experience means how to make deals under the table and breaking the rules without getting caught. In many Asian companies, they no longer see Canadian university degrees as valuable assets.

Also please do consider Oman. It’s a beautiful truly Islamic country. The Omani Arabs are most respectful and calm people. I loved living there. \nYou can drive and visit dubai in 4 hours. Believe me you don’t want to live there. It’s like Disney land. Visit have loads of fun then return home to wonderful Oman. If you work there as an expat you are provided lovely accommodation, tax free income and a tickets to your home country every year during your month off. \nIt’s super clean and many US, Canadian, European expats extend their contracts to stay longer because of the luxurious lifestyle.
