I used to reside in Canada for years and I now leave in the US, when it comes to healthcare you shouldn't be complaining about being in the emergency room for 8 hours. You will wait for 8 hours here in the US and end up losing your home because of the medical bill after the 8-hour wait. Yes, I agree with you on taxation but you get great schools, good roads, safe neighborhoods, and free healthcare and all these have to be paid for collectively. Can you imagine if you were not to be taxed but instead get monthly bills for all these services?

same in USA except no minimum paid vacation maybe 5 days to 2 weeks max and for some companies none at all..if tou take a vacation you dont get paid...aside from the weather, better tax treatment in certain US states(I live in Florida) and people are friendlier in the US..healthcare is mafia run very unaffordable so you must have insurance and even then its very expensive...every system has its weaknesses..ideally work in US get paid in US dollars and spend summer and autumn in Canada...then theres double taxation so you want to make sure you are in a position where you make you money in the States so you dont get taxed from Canada as well

Taxes are meant to run the country's affaires but people are just mean. You love it when you are broke and are able to benefit free services from the government but when you start making some money and are asked to contribute so that the country can keep up with all it's programs you start complaining. Come back to Africa, there is always a trade-off. No good service and less taxes. Just keep in mind that Africa not developing is our choice otherwise the cost of development is that, in a way ( higher taxes and government's direct control over people's affaires). I thank God anyway that you people can complain of better living condition but I would rather get busy working hard in Canada than not finding a decent job in Africa or bare the cold whether than sleeping hungry in Africa. One of the problem is that the doctors and other medical professionals use the low costs educational systems in Canada to get an education and then promptly leave for the US. Taxes are high in Canada. But try paying 20,000 to 25,000 to buy health insurance for a family of three. And you go to hospital for a week and end up with $125,000. Bill. When you consider the cost of education and medical. In the US where you paying high health insurance, you wait 8 hours in ER. I think most immigrants are too disgruntled. I've thought about moving to Canada from the US, at least for warmer months of the year, but decided against it for some of the reasons you list and one you didn't list. The amount owed in taxes and cold, dreary Winters, while prices are still pretty high for necessities all makes me think I'm better off just staying where I am. Also I learned recently that you have this thing called Self ID, where any man can decide he's a woman and just fill out a form and pay a fee, then has access to all women's spaces, programs, etc. That sealed the deal. US pays very high tax but the health care system. Health care insurance is very expensive in U.S. Real estate is very expensive here in America.

The fact is the US has the highest inequality among wealthy nations. And the worst health care, they place 20 out of 20 in the OECD. I have lived in Canada most of my life , and a few years in the US . Have to say I agree with everything these beautiful and smart Nigerian women are saying . The taxes are to pay for your “ free” healthcare. That’s why thousands of Canadians cross the border and come to the US for healthcare. Canada is too cold for me.

My sister who works as an RN in Los Angeles told me that she has worked alongside Canadian, British, Aussie nurses in hospitals. California has the highest salaries for nurses in the US if not the entire world. At the height of the pandemic it wasn't unheard of for some of them to make $100/hour. Canada has been losing a lot of experienced healthcare workers to the US and this is partly the reason why their system is at a breaking point. It seems to me that Canada even with it's high cost of living and taxes is still attractive to folks coming from developing countries coz a single person who saves an average of $500/month is still better off than living in their home countries. But there've been thousands of cases of folks coming from Europe, Oceania and well-off countries in Asia who surrendered their PR cards at Pearson and other ports of entry.

I listened to your chat. I did not appreciate some of your reasons for why people leave Canada. First of all life is what you make it. There are lots of things to do if you are interested in being active. Canada is a very beautiful country and there are lots of places to visit and enjoy. \nYou need to educate yourself about what people are paid in the US and Canada. The minimum wage is a lot higher in Canada. I suggest that you leave Canada and then you will appreciate what a wonderful country we live in. Go to Trinidad for example and buy groceries ...pay over a thousand dollars a week for food, then tell me that food is too expensive in Canada. (25.00 for a box of cereal)!Go to a hospital there and you will wait for a whole day just to be seen. Yes, we have a shortage of medical doctors and nurses here, but they are trying to fix that. Sure we pay taxes, but if you or someone in your family needs a heart transplant, a knee replacement or whatever, you will get it FREE in the hospital, and while you are in the hospital, your bed will have sheets and pillow cases. Drive your car on the roads in Trinidad and the potholes will ruin your tires, not to mention the frame of the car. Your taxes also maintains parks, roads and bridges for the safety and enjoyment of everyone. The government has no control over the weather, so complaining that it is too cold or rainy is up to mother nature. During the lockdown I am sure you received money from the government to help you, everyone did. Do you think other countries paid their people money to help them get through this crisis?? NO!\nI love Canada, it has been good to me and I never regretted emigrating here 42 years ago. I go traveling to other countries and I see how other people live and I am happy to come home. ALL TRUE. I left Canada for the States in 2021. Single RN no dependents here, no chronic disease. There was no sweet spot for me back home. Working extra shift or working according to my FTE has always been a dilemma. Coz the more money you make the more you are being taxed. At some point, it felt like I was just working for my bills and for other peoples’ social benefits/health care. I wasn’t saving up more. I wasn’t building wealth. Definitely the safest and one of the best BUT that’s if you are WILLING to pay the price. Here in the States, I can pay my US and Canada bills at the same time. Can’t do that back home ??. I don't know why people complain about taxes and all these deductions on incomre....every country has taxes. It's just that it's easy to avoid taxes in some countries than it is in Canada. So you never feel the bite.. In my country, we pay 30% income tax, 18% VAT, 5% NSSF(The rest is paid by the employer), 12% internet duties etc etc..... First of all I'm guessing you are in Toronto or Vancouver or Calgary maybe Montreal, The most expensive places in Canada to Live for sure. I live in Manitoba where the cost of living is pretty close to the cheapest in Canada. Yes minimum wage is $11.95 and apparently going up shortly. It's the same in US. I am a registered nurse in the US. I make $2000 a week and pay $700 taxes, my take home is $1300/wk. From there I pay other bills. The higher you earn the higher your taxes. Some weeks I make almost $4000 as a travel nurse. You make the money but after all deductions you'll be left with little. But you'll still enjoy this taxes when you retire as social security income. If you don't want to comply to their rules and regulations you better stay in your country. I did nursing in Nigeria and took and passed my NCLEX here and started working as a registered nurse.

I don't think higher tax rate is a good point when you compare it to a country like Nigeria. The maximum tax rate you can pay in Nigeria is 24% and it begins from anything from 5.6 million naira per annum. After paying that tax you pay for the school fees of your children, and you pay that 3 times every year, Asides school fees you buy generator and fuel it everyday to get something close to constant power supply. (I don't want to include healthcare because if you have a good HMO they will sort out that perfectly well)\nSome of us still pay security due if you live in an estate. \n\nThe point I am trying to make is that if your tax rate is high let's say to up to 50% and you are sure of the quality of education your children is getting in public schools so you don't have to pay for school fees, You don't have to buy generator and fuel it because there's constant electricity supply and there's good security so you don't have to pay for private security. You might realized that tax rate in Canada is effectively cheaper than here in Nigeria. Because you will still pay for school fees, generator and maintenance and private security and all these have a way of eating deep into your income.

Yes I know people who left Canada and came to the US to live. It’s too tough there and too much taxes. One of my friends had a very good job and when she got to Canada, she couldn’t find a lateral move job. She had to borrow money to go back to school and struggled to make ends meet.

My sisters Canada is still a good country compare to Nigeria where there is no good infrastructural facility, power and security of lives and properties. Look at how organized the government is compare to Nigeria where there is no. accountability. Tell me what is working where we came from. It's worse in the US especially for middle income earners. They are taxed over 30 percent and still paying for their health insurance which is expensive. The immigrants crossing the borders are getting free food, free Healthcare, free housing and free phones. Hence the reason why they are coming in large numbers. At some point, this country will collapse.

These taxes are also used to take care of immigrants when they just come in e.g., the free healthcare. Hence as an immigrant when you finally start working it makes sense to pay back so others can enjoy what you've enjoyed. It's the same way in the US. Hence it's funny when immigrants complain. You enjoyed it now you have to provide for others also.

What you are not telling your viewers is that higher taxes in Canada pay for the free healthcare for all which the US does not have. The cost of healthcare in the US if you happen to be poor and without insurance can wipe you out. This is the major reason for the difference in taxes. There is obviously room for improvement in health care delivery.

My wife, my 3 kids and I used to like Vancouver but not anymore!!! The weather is why we plan to leave for good but also the expensive rents! I also heard about horror stories at many hospitals (and yes, I have worked in Africa and to be honest, Africans hospitals are way more functional than the ones in Canada in terms of human aspect… there they care, Canadians do not give a shit about anyone!!! And I am saying this as a Belgian!!! I have some African colleagues at work here and at least 80 percent of them either want to go back to Africa (one is actually going to start an Afro business there and build his own house) or move to Europe (one of them plans to live to my homeland Belgium and two others in France as apparent the pensions there are way better than the Canadian one) as soon as they get enough experience in canada! None of us at work , including me, want to retire or get old here in Canada! Im Asian and I love Vancouver! The weather is beautiful and mild! I enjoy the rainy days cozying up with nice jazz music on gorgeous cafes and restaurants Vancouver has. It is expensive yes, however if your Asian its not, you just havent explored the Asian market place, cheap housing are also available in the outskirt cities and the best part of it is you are near the beaches and outdoor recreation and fun! Taxes are high yep thats true however with three different surgeries my family had from Apendicitis, to Gall bladder stone removal and stent angioplasty that could have cost us millions but got it for free, also the Free education, Child support, CERB, etc, taxes doesnt seem to matter anymore. British Columbia's mountain ranges, ski resort, hot springs, also Albertas Banf, Jasper, and Canmore for me are truly majestic safe and beautiful! Ive been all around South east Asia Europe and even the middle east however the welcoming nature and culture of Canadians and the power of a canadian Passport for me trumps all other cities in other countries. If you want to learn extreme news go to Asia like, China, North Korea, and the Philippines, also the USA the most extreme of them all! Rules are indeed frustrating but Canadian rules are nothing compared to Singapore, if you want freedom try India, try to walk in sexy clothing on the streets. Cold weather, dull culture, very low salaries, very high cost of living, very high taxes, racism, lack of jobs, fascist government etc. It's fine if you're young, but not as an adult. I much prefer the US, Europe, Southeast/East Asia or Australia.

I'm Canadian and I love both Canada and the US. However, I don't think I would live permanently in the US because I think life is better in Canada overall. We have free healthcare, so no medical bills and no health insurance to deal with. Only a bigger tax bill that doesn't change according to your health situation. We have much less crime, especially gun related crime. We have less poverty and a much better social safety net. It horrifies me how many Americans are homeless even if they previously had a good job, but they had to stop working because of a health condition. We have less political extremism and polarization. Extremist Christians have no control over our politics, so LGBTQ+ rights and women's rights are much safer here than in the US. We don't have cities being burnt down by antifa on one side, and elections and social peace being jeopardized by MAGA extremists on the other. On a more positive note, I love the weather of the US, their fast food joints, their local food, the landscapes, the cheaper gas and all the attractions. I really wish the US could solve all its problems and become a better country. Maybe one day, we could end up similar and open our borders like Europeans do with the Schengen Accord.

This is bullshit, it's not that bad, all the immigrants I know love it here, taxes are better in other provinces and pay is better in the higher tax provinces. It's the same stuff in the US. Like British Columbia has a tax of 15% but better pay, Saskatchewan has a provincial tax of 11% but lower pay and it works like that, we let people keep their country and culture here and alot of this is more untrue than true. My experience about Canada after living here for a few years now: \n1): Healthcare: There are two sides of it. If you need a specialist, forget about it, just live with your disease or problems and hope it will cure itself and won’t get worse. If you are in a life threatening condition and need a surgery, you’ll get it and the medical bill won’t scare you. I needed a dermatologist, never got one, eventually had to fly to the US for a simple treatment. \n2): Taxes: You’ll pay extra to take care of the large aging population of Canada and to maintain the infrastructure in the extreme cold weather. But, you can make a good use of your RRSP and TFSA accounts, and you can also buy American stocks without paying taxes. \n3): Travel and transportation: Forget about public transportation methods like buses and trains. You’re on your own. But a vehicle ownership isn’t very hard here. \n4): Social networking: Good luck with that. Good luck finding friends here or being a part of a friends group. Canadians are polite but not outgoing and extrovert. Most people make a few friends in Schools and College. You’re not going to see people of different races and origin hanging out with each other. \n5): Real estate: Population is growing, population is aging, it’s all happening but what’s not many houses are getting built. Buying your own house isn’t easy. If you’ve bought one, good luck with the energy prices. \n5): Landscape: It’s gorgeous out here, if you want to be happy in Canada, go out for sightseeing.\n6): Jobs: Totally depends in which jobs you can fit in and what previous experience you have. If you have previously done exactly what the job profile is asking for, for sure you can find a job.\n\nIn the end I would say, I have lived in many places, each come with their downsides, you have to see what works for you. There’s isn’t a perfect world really there isn’t. You have to take the bad with the good.
