Thought provoking. I think Canucks have unrealistic expectations. I left 30 years ago and wish I had 20 years earlier. It took me that long to figure out how to get out and disabuse myself from Canadian myths I embraced for so long.

We simply do not have the capacity for support them in any manner when we are failing the people that live here.

Haven’t people studied abroad in the past with no issue? Like exchange students ect? Why now are there all these expectations of staying afterwards? New immigrants dont integrate in Canada or Canadian life. The priviledge of going to school is for study not PR. Its not a back door immigration program. You dont go to any other country and make demands or protest. Few if any go in the needed trades so time to go home. The numbers are unsustainable and its killing communities with housing and jobs as well as limited resources like healthcare and education. Governments and post secondary have failed Canadians who have had enough of paying the price and need borders closed. Clearly somewhere along the line these students are coming with false promises and expectations. With housing crisis if Colleges and Universities cant house all those they bring over on campus and provide the housing then higher caps to meet who they can house. Failure to do so close them down. Most communities are in emergency state for homelessness so of course no sympathy or tolerance for protests. Schools are for study only not a back door.

Had to drive through brampton last night and airport road was closed at one point because of some kind of something, that is being done every damn Sunday now. I have lived in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and now Alberta. Toronto was beautiful in the 60’s and 70’s then it started to change to what is now overcrowded, expensive and crime ridden. I would not choose it anymore. Winnipeg, Manitoba in the mid to late 80’s was lovely. People were polite especially in winter, when driving was challenging, friendly and it is very cultural. People would say it would be the best city in Canada if it was in the mountains. Now I live in Edmonton, Alberta a dirty city with a council that puts high priced, unaffordable recreation centres ahead of services that would benefit everyone. Now they want to increase the population to 2 million when it can’t afford to sustain the existing population of 1,568,000. The taxes this year have risen to 8.9% and house prices are expected to increase 6.5% for an average price of $458,000. I lived in Calgary, in the Fish Creek provincial park area close to the C-train and a good bus service to downtown. 45 minutes from the mountains and Kananaskis, great zoo, vibrant downtown and if it is not much more expensive than Edmonton and is ranked 7th best city to live in worldwide. To compare the 2 cities, Edmonton tries to be world-class but just doesn’t have what it takes. The people seem to have very little pride in their city, the parks are a mess of weeds which also grow wherever there is green space and they very possibly have the worst and rudest drivers in the country. Very sorry if this offends anyone.

And even after you move to another country, Canadians can still vote remotely for a while after the move. Expect some spite voting.

The real question is Canada vs Florida because the U.S. consists of many mini countries that have agreed on a common constitutional document and basic laws but otherwise are different countries. With that said Canada loses on every metric that matters to Florida. From economics to taxes to business to self defense and personal property Florida wins. The U.S. is secular but politicians of all nations will bring it up to some degree thinking this is somehow unique to the U.S. means you don’t understand the U.S. When it comes to political and religious diversity the U.S. has a larger population consisting of the entire world its by definition diverse. Canada doesn’t have sensible gun laws it just leaves those who can’t defend themselves at great risk.\n\nCrime is high in cities that have laws & culture closer to Canada than they do the U.S. Which have the strictest gun laws in the country. It’s bad politics & culture which are most similar to Canada that has resulted in higher crime rates. \n\nGun laws in the U.S. are for Americans to have the option to fight against a tyrannical government like we have scene in Canada with the truckers and mass freezing of bank accounts. That is what the right to bear arms was for first and foremost not just self defense. Canada ignores this entirely and instead has the perspective of give the government all the power and expect government to be “good” and act in good faith to the people which it has continually failed to do so. Canada has to bribe Quebec just to keep its country together something that has been an issue since the founding of Canada is parts of it breaking off due to tyrannical federal government power abuse.\n\nFreedom comes with risks but it’s always better to be free.\n\nPeople who leave the U.S. for Canada are doing so for political reasons otherwise they can leave their blue progressive crime filled cities for free cheap safe red states.\n\nI encourage all Canadians to search moving from Canada to Florida and you will find many Canadians that realized the American Dream. Which is still alive and well in states like Florida.

It used to be easier to live here. Housing costs doubled in even the past 5 years. Everyone who has lived here for a long time who are not immigrants are facing similar barriers. The landscape here changed so radically that communities feel colder since everyone is forced to leave their community every time they have to move and everyone they know is now an hour away.\n\nCanada is still wonderful in many ways, but inner city life harder, colder and more expensive. \n\nThe amount international students are told they need is based on Canadian averages and not the inner city of Toronto and so many are met with shock and difficulty. \n\nAlthough, locals are not entirely sure why people came expecting things to be easier at the same time struggle was already happening. The policy makers come from rich classes and are very disconnected.

Real estate agents are the biggest culprits in the rise of prices. I’ve been there several times as telling me my house is worth hundreds of thousands more or we can say exaggerated by 30% or more then my house is on the market for a year which is nota big deal for an agent they have 40 other listings and access to more moneymakers , I’ve sold my last 2 homes personally within days or weeks which were reasonably priced not overpriced this made everyone happy . Building a home is never a problem buy the land get proper permits and select a quality builder I’ve had steady employment and certainly not rich blue collar salary and never have been refused for a mortgage so if you want to build it’s always available , if you qualify for a mortgage.\nAs for your immigration babble do you like to eat food if the answer is yes you should appreciate immigrants, do you like the care you get in hospitals thanks again to immigrant nurses caregivers therapists, how about the next time you stay at a hotel/resort thank immigrants for cooking and cleaning , \nSure stuff costs more you can put some blame on lifetime pensions for politicians and senators for a few years work , over the top spending on government trips , the Governor General expense on wardrobe, minister of whatever buying new boots or shoes to make an announcement total abuse of taxpayer $ , government projects which get cancelled for who knows why and many projects which are unnecessary which are beneficial only to family and friends giving their private businesses contracts , same old guys club new blood is required with new ideas and purpose . \nCanada is expensive I’ll agree but still top 10 to reside in the world if you like life and freedom , eating regularly, lights on , water from your tap, getting to your job on real roads , getting an abortion , not expecting a hospital bill when you arrive home from heart surgery, the list goes on , whiners are are whiners the rest are makers and make our lives better .as for other post saying things are so much cheaper in the states , I don’t pay 10$ for a carton of eggs this happened last year in Arizona state the facts ,
