1/4 CANADIANS LIVE IN POVERTY! RENT HAS JUMPED 40% IN 2 YEARS!

When I graduated high school in St. John’s Newfoundland, at least one of my instructors gave us our life advice. I’ll have to think what the exact percentages were but I think they said 25% of your income should be rent 25 for surviving and food and utilities 25% forcars and accessories and 25% for saving or your children. I guess they aren’t giving that advice anymore.

What a contrast. The USA has an illegal migrant issue, and Canada has legal immigrant issues. Unlike the USA, where people are pouring into the country illegally, Canada has created its own problems by importing a lot more people legally than it can afford to accommodate in terms of housing and jobs. Canada could have done a much better job managing the influx of immigrants and international students.\n\nThe Canadian government, colleges, landlords, and business owners are the winners. The government and colleges collect billions in taxes and fees, and landlords collect millions through inflated rent. Business owners get a lot of cheap labor and sell those LMIs for $50k—$60k each.\n\nThe losers are Canadian citizens. Whose quality of life and livelihoods are in jeopardy.

Add in greed driven inflation by the oil & grocery giants and there is no extra money for rent. Now poilievre wants back in power, when he’s had 20 years and done nothing to increase housing, and pander to those exact same conglomerates. Meanwhile, our interest rates keep going down according to plan, the housing bubble has leveled, & progress is being made. Canada isn’t broken, we just have to keep working on it.

Too many people , not enough resources, citizens cant keep up financially, young people cant afford rent , cant get jobs , people that come here refuse to integrate. I was an immigrant , now im Canadian , i dont like what the Liberal globalists have done to our country .

Rental insurance for the owner of the house/condo is expensive. My friend rented her house out while she did a work contract out of town. Her rent due to having renters was $5,000 a year.

Canada and America just need to focus on two of main problems...which are greed and a lot of people getting in real estate who are either renting or selling at a severely inflated rate because those people in real estate just want take short cut early retirement. If rich individuals or companies create more jobs that are entry level and offer decent salary then rich individuals or hedge fund companies can buy empty land and buy town homes or a tower like apartment and charge a decent rate.

We came to Canada 60+ years go and life then was so much better than now. Prices were low and taxes were low. There were lots of apartments available and lots of jobs. \nMy parents rented an apartment and got good factory jobs. \nThroughout the years various governments have increased the deficit and increased taxes. Now Canada is ruined.

Letting in so many people amidst rising housing prices is bad for people looking to rent or buy homes

In some russian cities we have sallaries around 3000$ PER YEAR. But also people there pay for rent 200$ per month. So they spend all their low sallaries for the cheap rent. The conclusion - it is not important how low or big prices in the country. But it is important to have BIGGER sallaries, than prices

Crazy the amount of homeless in all the parks that where for children are now being use as camp sites. Children or seniors can't enjoy a nice time now.\nUnemployment refusing to help residents n new people that are student or don't got documents get full financial support but those that live here can't. The thing about Canada is the the unaffordable housing crisis is also tied to high unemployment and too many immigrants coming in from the Far East and Middle East countries. Now that they are closer to the US with the best job opportunities in the world currently it’s best to come here at all cost. If it drives up home prices and rents no problem because the government is dangerous when it’s in debt needs higher tax revenue. It’s screws with the population that’s already here.

A Venesulan lady neighbor has $13,000 EBT food assistance and $10,000 in money on her card. She drives a 2024 electric SUV and pays ZERO rent for her house. She wears only name brand expensive clothes and she is investing in gold. \nIn 6 years she plans to go home to build her house and retire. \nThat's why they come here. They are coming from India out of the Airport in Toronto Canada to be so called visiting friends and family but not returning to the airport to leave when it's time to leave. So a legal resident that's on Social security, most of the time supporting a family, has to live and pay rent on less than $1000 a month but an illegal family gets rent bills food clothes and $1400? In 2008, I had to choose if I wanted to remain in the US legally, or return to Europe. I am so glad I chose the latter. But I can see how for the Asian and Mexican migrants, the US might be an opportunity. So, New York offers free housing to migrants, while the US citizens can not afford rent. Good job, Murika!

As a Canadian I truly belive our gov in canada is next level incompetent and they don't think immigrants are a problem at all, if not a solution cause we have to give everyone the benefit of the doubt for some reason, indians are our second most common race as well as very much involved with our politics and police even though about 7 years ago there wasn't a single Indian in canada hardly. We also get mostly low grade migrants without much education and are advertising heavily to India and Africa to come start a life in canada for some fucking reason even though where I live average wages are about 45k and average rent is 2.2x higher then 8 years ago and most groceries are about 40 to 80% higher since trudeau got elected too and you make less money often times here for the same jobs so all that probably contributes a lot too to why this is happening
