Herman D. Potzner PhD from Harvard has written a book called Burn, discussing Food Economy and Climate. He says that the US consumes 25 quadrillion kilocalories every year at a population of 330 million. To do this the annual expenditure is 77 million kilocalories per person. That's 210,000 kcal per day to give one american their daily calories. Globally we use 141 quadrillion kcal each year, on average of 47,000 kcal per person per day. This is 16x more energy needed than our metabolic engines require. There are 7.7 billion people on earth, but we are burning energy like there are 120 billion of us. He says it is completely unsustainable. I've added this because it seems food prices have not hindered people from buying, nor going out to restaurants, nor ordering take out and having it delivered. Why are food prices going up? Because they can. As for housing, single tenanted homes are probably a thing of the past and most of us may have to consider renting together or buying together as much as other parts of the world have been doing for generations.

OK hear me out, I’m a Jewish American but I have always been quite critical of Israel especially in the last 3 decades under the Likud government it’s nationalism and imperialism, with regard to its settlements and attitudes to Palestine. That said… Every time we’re close to creating good world sympathy for a Palestinian state, the power-hungry radicals of the Palestinian people always somehow ruin the progress, taking advantage of a power vacuum, and it’s stirring up the people once again that Israel Has to be destroyed off the face of the map. Then on top of that, during peaceful times with momentum for a two state solution, something always ruins it, in this case it was Hamas, seizing power over Gaza with the statement that Israel needed to be destroyed. Then Israel made sanctions to try to make that government fail, but, of course, as we know, it only starved the people and made them angrier and then they did this awful, unspeakable, brutal attack. Hamas is still attacking to this day. If Hamas wants to cease fire, they need to also stop attacking Israel and come to the table and come up with a two states solution and accept Israel. Israel is of course going too far as they often do but it’s a tough call as to what Israel should really be doing right now, while their constantly under attack and threat from their neighbors in a very active way every day.

Basically, the euphemism Canadian experience is a polite way to shield in my humble opinion, a form of chauvinism and bigotry to cut out immigrants from connecting into the labor market and protecting the labor market for what employers consider real Canadians\n\nThe way the whole immigration system is work. Singapore is a much more congested place. Real estate prices are on the higher end.\nCanada is a very cold place but in certain states, Canada gives free land to settle immigrants. Plus, as you stay in close proximity of the US with similar timezones. So you can find jobs in American companies. Singapore is from a different timezone and there is very little overlap between California PST and Singapore SGT. \nAs the global warming takes effect, Singapore will sink, while Canada becomes warmer, more natural resources are unlocked in Canada. Not to mention, Singapore is sorrounded by Islamic nations, and there is high probability of terrorism happening in near future as radicalization increases in that region. War is already happening in Burma between Junta and ARSA. And when civil war happens, so happens the in-flux of illegal arms and ammunition. Canada is far far away from these warzones.\nMost people should prefer Canada over Singapore, unless you have any specific ties to South East Asia, like you love the Asian food or you need to stay in close proximity of your family and friends.

I don't know why we hate WEST when once we are done with all of our needs. Some of us dislike them, but in our prayers, we beg to God for grant of Canadian or American or British Visa. I lived in Pakistan for 5 years for medical school. As much as I appreciated it, I knew I could not settle there. You will appreciate all the little things once you move. You can get ripped off by utilities company over there. Unless you know someone in power you don’t stand a chance. The inflation there is much higher than here. Some days you can’t find any meat or other foods. Almost everyone is trying to rip you off. Also safety is an issue. I was young and dumb. I was never targeted but it happens to locals all the time. As a westerner they can spot you a mile away even if you dress like them. You’re complaining about the cold, wait till you feel the heat. Electricity goes out all the time. You need to know people and have family in these countries. You can’t get things done independently like you can in the west. Also there are very few jobs that allow for the standard of living you are used to. If you are willing to sacrifice 90% of what you have now then you might have a chance. Lastly, you will most likely have to put your children in an American school when you get there because they don’t speak the language and they will act like westerners. And hide your wife from YouTube for God’s sake. If you had a billion dollars would you broadcast it to the world?

I live in Greece and personally it's fine, but IF I ever moved abroad, I would choose a beautiful little American town, like sometimes you see in the movies. With some nice nature all around it. And have a simple life there, try to marry some girl and have a nice family and barbeque with the neighbors, go fishing, etc. Why would anyone move to the big cities, I mean that is not so smart. I suppsoe small towns also need plumbers, electricians, barbers, bus drivers, whatever.

As extreme as it may seem, I think mass deportation is necessary, and we treat it like it is; an invasion. Poised to strike at the American economy to weaken our country. I am Canadian, and while elements of this video are true, there are larger points missed. healthcare is challenging, but it could be worse- could be the American system. housing is expensive if you want to live in the large urban centres. essentially, life is good but takes effort, and there's a growing sense of entitlement... but all a Canadian need do is head south and they'll be missing it in a short period of time. I have to disagree with some of the things mentioned in the video. 1. My home in Hong ‘Kong @ 500 sq feet costs the same as a townhouse in Stouffville Ont. that’s probably 1;500;sq ft not including basement; garage & front lawn. How’s that world’s worst housing crisis. Isn’t San Francisco much worse?. 2. Rich people who own housing or properties need to pay capital gain taxes or other taxes if vacant. As a black american living in the US who believes in equality & freedom and despises oppression....this is just out of control and needs to be stopped period..i grew up spanish,Dominican,Haitian, Jamaican,Mexican,west african friends in nyc and my wife & son mom is from costa rica so i get it...BUT this has been out of control especially in nyc...its just been overwhelming even nyc...its out of control and crazy.

Canada should consider older Americans who have their own health care and have skilled degrees. Often the age barrier is a problem. There is a severe teaching shortage in some provinces. I'd love to teach there but they need to consider older workers from compatible countries who are already financially stable who would love to live in Canada and would appreciate living there.

Study mortgage loan - debt - bond markets. Banks business condition. Study which skills are in drastic need in your country of living. Get skills, get salary, get loan and buy cheap. These days the hardest is to buy cheap. So be hungry and look around like tiger in the Jungle

With all due respect, comparing US and Canada to European in general doesn't make sense(please excuse my words). Compare them to European countries like Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Luxembourg. And talking about countries with more billionaires, you can only do that on per capita basis looking at the American population as compared to these countries, and with that the statistics has proved that Scandinavia has more billionaires than US and Canada on per capita basis. Countries like Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, France Holland and all those other countries limit you because you're not allowed to work more than one full time job at a time, but in a country like Denmark, the wages are higher and you can work as many hours as your strength can and on top of that you get free healthcare, free education, and a lot more social benefits. So these countries come no where close to a country like Denmark. The language barrier is very valid, but putting in efforts to learn languages of countries like Denmark, Norway. Switzerland is worthy than getting a degree in country like America where inflation is out the roof and debt to gdp ratio is over 90%, having to borrow 3 to 4 billion every month in 2023 to stay afloat.. You need to read more on current state of the US.. It's been predicted that in mid 2024 to the end of 2024 5000 people could lose their job every month due to companies shutting down. This is never a good time to relocate to the States! lol

1) Toronto is poor value. Getting housing of any kind (buying or renting) is stupidly expensive. And the quality you get for the price is lousy. Especially the newer builds, which are just thrown up as quickly as possible and sold to investors. Policy measures generally all seem to serve to just inflate the price of housing further. The occasional lip service given to affordability is amusing, but ultimately sad. There are lots of people who really do not want the housing bubble to pop. They will fight against it with all they have.\n\n2) It has become kind of boring. There is lots to do if you have money, but it’s harder to find entertainment on a budget. Even the free stuff like parks are filling up. Stuff like sporting events, eating out, going out is very costly across the board. Even the “cheaper” stuff is expensive. It seems like a lot of local culture is disappearing. Even the cool neighbourhoods are filling up with the same chains. I think the high commercial rent and bureaucracy is deflating a lot of would-be entrepreneurs. Most landowners seem to just be banking on cashing out their land for condos.\n\n3) Canada overall has a high cost of living compared to salaries. In the US you can find lower cost of living areas that still give you a real city experience. And in Europe you can be poor but still live a decent, if no frills, life. In Canada the basic necessities are all expensive. Phone bills, grocery bills, rent, insurance are through the roof. Domestic travel is expensive. And the dollar sucks if you want to travel abroad. Health care is free but good luck finding a family doctor or waiting 8 hours in the ER these days. It’s expensive to be poor, or even middle class.\n\n4) Most of the Greater Toronto Area, outside the core, is soulless suburbs with awful transit - very “American” except with worse traffic congestion. You will need a car, which is another huge cost. Row upon row of old cookie cutter suburbs with the same crappy houses. Good luck walking anywhere, and if you do you will need to walk down boring, treeless arterial roads with cars zooming past right beside you, and cross giant eight lane intersections that were never built for humans on foot. In a rainstorm or on a fall evening you have to be really careful not to be run over by aggressive drivers.\n\n5) It is hard to raise a family in an apartment here. You can do it but it’s not very easy, and also you are still kind of judged for it. Lots of young people are feeling stuck and are deferring or avoiding starting a family. Buying any type of house, even a basic townhouse, requires pledging your soul to a bank by taking a massive mortgage with eye watering debt in a volatile market. But few apartment buildings have the kind of sensible gentle density, the family unit sizes and the common amenities, like little courtyards with jungle gyms, that you might find in Europe. No one ever contemplated that anyone would ever desire to raise kids in an apartment. It’s just a cultural thing that has worked its way into how things are planned and designed.\n\n6) The transit system is ok by North American standards but awful by international standards. There are only two real subway lines, one stub line, one line that is permanently out of service after a derailment, and another line that was supposed to open a couple years ago but still has no date for opening. The subways go out of service frequently, sometimes for the dumbest reasons, and then it is a zoo of shuttle buses. The streetcars are nice but so slow. The buses are fine if you find yourself dreaming about riding a daily herky jerky rolling tin of sardines. They are building a lot of transit but it will take decades to get done.\n\n7) There is still a lot of cool multiculturalism and opportunities to experience different foods and cultures - one of the best things about Toronto. Increasingly though it seems to be losing the fun vibe of the 90s, when everyone celebrated each other’s backgrounds and was chill. It seems the immigration is not as broad based anymore and also people are importing a lot of their “old country” grievances here. The immigration system also kind of preys on people abroad by selling them a false fairy tale, so they end up dejected when they arrive and see how things really are.\n\n8) This one might be controversial but it’s kind of an ugly city. There’s nothing particularly of historical meaning or value. Some of the older neighbourhoods are kind of nice, but the last 25 years they have only built giant glass skyboxes, one after another. There aren’t the cool “missing middle” walkups like in NY, Chicago or Montreal (or even LA). There are very few buildings with much architectural character. Some of the buildings they deem “heritage” here are an embarrassment.\n\n9) For safety, honestly on this score I think Toronto is not bad. There are not too many real “ghettos” and it’s night and day compared to much of the US. With that said, there is more vagrancy and social issues these days, with tents and such. It’s very sad but the shelters are full, lots of homeless go into the libraries, parks and transit system. It does make it harder to enjoy these public amenities safely. It is nowhere close to Europe where you might let your kids run free around town. Canadian parents still helicopter their kids and the place again is not designed to really be safe for kids, in the same way as Europe.\n\n10) Finally, a bit of a double edged sword. Toronto had a lot of youthful energy - people coming here from all over. It is definitely not as sleepy as many parts of the world. With that said, it is becoming a bit of a transient place (minus the world class experiences like London or NY). If you are from elsewhere you might find it hard making and keeping friends. I’ve seen lots of people struggle because it’s is hard to build a strong social network. We have a very “shallow” culture here - people are extremely polite but not overly warm and hospitable. We treat one another kind of like neighbours - meaning we’d like to have a cordial, drama-free coexistence and otherwise kind of stick to ourselves.

Don't deceive Africans to move to Canada Infact they should acquire some funds to start a business or study to go back to Africa and move back to Africa entirely. This has gotten out of control. The US is not the solution to everyone's problems. They think the grass is greener on the other side. So, we already had homeless people on the streets - even the veterans - . Americans are having a hard time, I think that there should be planes/buses taking these people back to the country they lived in. They need to be on the what list. Our country is failing Americans, and a fair amount of those crossing do have criminal records. Seeing a crowd this large, is this going to turn into a civil war? It's sad.

Canada is not perfect. If it was the case, the population will be booming. Cost of living is cheap compare to NYC or California but is still high compared to other countries. If you think that you can make a new life within 5 years, it really depends on your skillset and capacity. If you are from France, England or any western world it will be easier as your degree will be probably recognized, there will be no language and cultural barriers. Otherwise, you will need to start from bottom. You will notice that immigrants like to show off their success in the community or back in their countries, and this make false idea of the North American dream is easy. Absolutely not.

I come from a very civilized country with a lot of education and history but awful economy. ?? I am myself educated but my country’s main salary is 700€/month and a descent one bedroom apt is the same price. There are no jobs no future if u don’t come from a rich fam. I lived in the US for 30 years. I hated every year, except for having my sons there. My American husband is a staunch NRA supporter. At the 30 year mark, when I gave him an ultimatum. I gave him 30 years down there, and the time had come where he needed to do 30 years in Canada. We've been in Canada for 6 years, and he doesn't ever want to go back.\nI feel for the new mothers, who only get 6 weeks maternity leave (8 weeks for C-Section).\nCanadian Mums get a full year. Nurturing your new baby is necessary for a well-balanced child. You can't bond in 6 weeks. \nYour health insurance is nuts. We paid $1500/mo. just for our family. Then you have a $5k deductible first! Just walking into the ER is $500 and THEN add on labs, x-rays, meds, etc. My son was in mental health treatment and our insurance capped mental health at $25k for life. \nThe biggest slap up my head, was when I found out I CAN'T collect my SSI. I paid a lot of taxes, since we made 6 figures/year. So, now I'm screwed, since they won't pay a former Permanent Resident. Had I been a citizen, I could get it. My husband is a PR in Canada, waiting to take his citizenship test. If he applies for SSI, he needs to go down to the States for 30 days and nights, annually. \nI'm from Toronto, born and raised and I am so happy to have my feet back in my own country. My boys are still there, as well as my grandchildren. Thankfully, they fly up twice a year. You couldn't pay me to move back.

Did it as a 5 year project and only made it for 15 months. Needed an expensive 100k procedure. Decision to move back to Canada was a no brainer, waited 3 months to get back on healthcare role and had a successful procedure and didn't have to mortgage the house or cash in RRSP's. Having said all of that many Americans work extremely hard and are driven to get ahead.
