Besides US there is common shelter for domestic violence and homeless... we move from California to Edmonton... Canada has so many good things but my heart miss California a lot ?

Can someone tell me if Canada is a good place to move for a couple of years? I'm from the UK but lived in Spain for most of my life. The reason I want to leave Spain is because the average salary is low and job security I.E work contracts are all terrible unless you're in a big city like Madrid or Barcelona. Plus I live in a tourist/ retired destination so work here is seasonal as we are only busy over the summer time and trying to meet people around my age 20, 30s is difficult. I've heard so many good things about Canada from people I know but looking into some more I'm seeing that there's a big financial issue for those who plan to move over as the taxes are very high. I'm just looking to come over for a couple of years, save some money and then move back to the UK. If anyone that has travelled to Canada for a few years could let me know what its like now that would be great ?.

Atleast our banking system is strong, that notion of us being risk averse is a good thing. \nThe 08 crash,and now the current on going banking crisis in the US really tells you the level of risks taken by US firms. \nUS businessess are much quicker to fire you, much faster to destroy unions. For the average working person, Canada offers more. \nOur healthcare is great. And you're perception with other countries maybe it's just because you're in another developed country/region, isn't the same with the whole world. As a Canadian that works closely with the government, the other issues that the tax rate in Canada is very high. Even you get a good paying job or a profitable business, a significant portion of your paycheck/profits goes to the government. There is also a lot of bureaucratic and legislative hurdles to overcome and too little incentives when trying to start or develop a business. For example, to build a high density residential building, it takes around 1 - 2 years of planning and studies, then another year to get all the permits and government paperwork, then 2 years of construction. It takes around 5 years to build a new residential building. Canada's housing affordability problem is not just simply cause by people willing to buy property, it is also cause by a significant shortage of housing supply due to all these regulations and hurdles. If you can't find affordable housing and your income is also heavily tax, a lot Canadians will go south to the US where things are a lot more affordable.

big problem with the housing is also trudeau taking in so many immigrants and refugees before having enough available housing for everybody. I think they were taking in 200k people a year. while we need atleast 1million new houses within the next 10 years in order to supply enough to the population. There was also an issue with forieign purchases where people from other countries were buying houses in canada and nobody living in them. Trudeaus votes comes from majority indian people and arabic since thats a lot of the population in canada, and to win those votes and get more hes friendly with them accepting a lot of immigrants from those countries, its not a bad thing since a lot are very well educated and their peaceful people for the most part, but the problem is there isn't enough housing. Even renting has become competitive , owning is near impossible without help. Trudeau really messed up the country, houses are riduclously expensive and they often go into bidding wars if in a good area, banks interest rates keep going up now, loans are harder to take out, sadly we need to limit the amount of immigrants that come into the country until the right number of houses are built in the country, if anything new and major cities need ot be build in other locations with jobs in order to get more people spread out around the provinces. Once there is enough houses and jobs i believe the doors should be open to whomever wishes to come (obviously with a background check) but until then there should be a limit so the houses stop going up.

Apartments are getting built up left & right, as far as I see in both Toronto & Montreal and their suburbs. In 2020 the price of a single bedroom in Longui.... Long-island just over the navigation channel from Montreal sold for $ 110,000, with a maintenance fee of just $ 250 monthly, which includes hydro (electric power) and electric heating, insurance on shared parts, a generous underground parking large for 2 small cars or a large car & motorcycle, indoor heated pool, gym, sauna.... and that large bedroom some have split in two because why not!\nSure, the same thing sells nowadays for double, but as new developments go up, the price HAS TO come down. I locked in the rent so I'm somewhat insulated, but high rents are a huge drag on the economy. Those Have To be pulled back too, or immigrants will go for friendlier shores. If cheap housing isn't available, there's No Cheap Labor to be had, and North America was Built on Cheap labor (as far as the people already here were concerned; in relation with the usual wage in immigrants' homeland, it was a really good deal).

POPULATION. \n\nCompared to countries like denmark, sweden, japan, france, uk, etc. we have a much bigger country to maintain landmass wise. Infrastructure. We talk about weather daily. I could go on and on how the 70s-90s were one of the best time periods in modern history for various reasons but I wont. There are problems internationally, we live in a globalist world. All I will say though is leave the huge metropolitans like Toronto and Vancouver. Everyone wants to go there because they think 'theres more opportunity' ugh. The problem with Canada's economy is that the Trudeau tornado swept all the good things that could have happened to us with all kinds of weird decisions that threw our economy under the carpet and placed us in a miserable condition where it will take years for us to get back to normal!

Build towns that are surrounded by walls give them a small space to live and build factories. Allow these people to have a small check and live and work in those small cities say in the middle of nowhere. Make them work for 1 year in those places and as long as they do good not crime and show up for work and take care of there living space then allow them to become citizens. That way you weed out the criminals and non hard workers. In 1 year you will have a good idea of who should be staying. Also its them paying for there spot and contributing to the us economy. Once they become contributing members of society and they get on there feet out of each check they will take a small amount to pay for all the resources that were used to help them. Also I belive the majority of the ones let in should be women and the young children. If I don't get free help working full time struggling they shouldn't either. Let's make america a manufacturing power house like we're were in the past and the only reason we are a super power now. Also do the same thing for criminals and the homeless teach them worth ethic and how to follow laws instead of giving them handouts to go buy more dope

it's funny I moved to Canada a little over a year ago and I want to move back to Australia for some of the reasons you want to leave Australia and more. Housing affordability here is a pipe dream unless you like living near mountains and want a laid back life like the life in Perth, in Calgary. But Calgary's job market is not great and that pretty much extends to every province except Ontario and BC. Living cost in Canada is very high... compared to what I experienced in AU, this is more expensive than living in Sydney. (I live in Toronto but this extends to Vancouver as well.) The healthcare system is weak, inefficient and inconvenient. Bureaucracy is again very slow, inconvenient and in some cases so backwards. Banking is not great, super inconvenient, not people-centric, inefficient and very much backward imo.. work-life balance or quality of life is way better in AU. Infrastructure development is slow and not great at all for a world-class country and personally, I expected better from Toronto.. (I do understand why it is the way it is right now, some justified reasons but some not so much) Things I do give props to CA... Diversity and inclusiveness is not just marketing slogan like in AU.. I don't feel like an outsider here... Its incredible. Job market is here much better than in AU. If you're moving from a country like AU, you will feel how capitalism here is made to make more money out of you every step of the way. But also, you will see how you can use that system to make alot of money. I think Canada is a great place to live if you're an entrepreneur or business person and making money is a primary requirement. But if you're someone who loves quality of life and work-life balance and want to probably own a good house, right now CA is not there. Also this doesn't mean CA isn't great, its fantastic... but compared to AU, canada comes short in many fronts. Also I love the weather here even if we have a pretty long winter.

my number 1 issue when i went on vacation was the food, like my gosh, I couldn't even drink the milk of how much fat it had, like, it was crazy! beagles were very sweet (which I actually liked BUT I cannot eat that everyday), it's just too much unbalance, and I was like 16... I wasn't a picky eater, so for me it was a big shock, I didn't have a healthy meal once that whole month I was there, and I was staying at my mom's friend with my mom, so it's not like I was at a hotel or something, they didn't sit down to have a family meal or cook home meal stuff for the kids even, it was just a big culture shock overall, and I personally did not rly enjoy it. When I went to visit my family in New Bedford, was pretty much the same thing, the food tasted super different, simple lettuce just didnt taste good, I mean this is my experience ofc, but the struggle with food taste was real xD

This is BS ! I have NEVER EVER had to wait a full YEAR to see a doctor. Period . I live in Toronto. I write this in late March 2023. In the USA....you are on YOUR OWN when it comes to things like social issues and healthcare. Your so-called private insurance plans do not ALWAYS cover what YOU THINK they cover regarding healthcare. You could not pay me enough to ever move to the US from Toronto. My parents had MULTIPLE heart-related medical procedures in Ottawa that would have BANKRUPTED them if they were Americans. You are taken care of IMMEDIATELY if your life is in danger when it comes to healthcare. Americans never mention this. This actually happened to my 41-year old daughter. We're polite and nice until we're taken advantage of or treated like an idiot! Kindness is important, but doing what's morally right is more important to me personally! So if that means me speaking up or calling out bs when I see it, I will! I do believe in giving each person their own clean slate. I adjust according to the person! That just means I don't assume anything about a person based on race, the job they have, the car they drive, how they look, the clothes they wear. Those things have no bearing on how I choose friends! It's all about the content of one's character! I do keep to myself most of the time but strive to be kind and polite when I'm around others! But everyone is different. You will run into aholes anywhere you go! Canada is NO EXCEPTION. You have to be careful still about how you move. For example as an indigenous woman I don't go out alone after dark. You can't just trust anyone and leave yourself vulnerable because you never known what someone's intentions are. You can find people that are so unkind. You can also find some of the nicest people in the world here. I imagine the same can be said about any country. Our government certainly doesn't represent us personally. We all have our own personalities and lives! And I don't judge others based on their race religion or their government at home! When I was a kid there was no shortage of people letting me know I'd never amount to anything. So yeah you can find aholes anywhere you go!
