Yes, I agree with you. I grew up in Indonesia which I used to have lots of friends but since I have been living in USA for 33 years, I feel lonely here. Westerners are very individualist, happy only for themselves. My son was born here, the way he thinks is very individualist, selfish, and he is happy only for himself or few friends. \nAsians, Hispanics, Africans are similar, they like to share, talk, give but not Westerners, they are very different!

I am from Pakistan. Studied and lived in USA for over 10 years. Don't know where my time has gone so fast. Life is very busy in usa (I lived in Chicago, Denver, Orange County, CA and LA. People have to work two jobs to ends meet. Most people have to share housing...that really sucks. Constant expense (rent or mortgage payments are so high people have to constantly work. Whatever time people get they run chores and stay home and chill. You see ultra rich or people on welfare having fun at the beach. I have had a very close friend from pakistan came to usa same time as I did. we both never had enough time to meet up on regular basis. even when we met we had so many things in back of our minds running. I had couple of girlfriends (of course at different times) but they had other boyfriends at the same time. And number one thing they had on their mind is was get money from you. What you wear and drive is what you are. People consider you obsolete if you wear non branded shoes or older models of branded shoes. I traveled extensively in the US and Canada. But in East Europe like Romania and Poland I found people very friendly. Now I am back in pakistan facing basic problems like traffic jams, noisy honking streets and so on but for some reason i feel worriless and relax. whenever i go out, people start to talk to you and you feel like home. everyone is super friendly and is available for help. however you cant really trust people with money though. hahahha. After living in USA for so long I do really miss many things about it though. the efficient system is definitely a big plus. and i have realized that some times i like being all alone for extensive period of times. but knowing that i can meet up anyone any time gives me peace of mind. i have realized hard way that man made martials can amuse you to some extent only. you need live beings are you.

I cant agree with you my friend about USA and Canada. Every kind of life is available in these big countries. If you talk about scandinavian countries like Norway or Finland yes Its somehow true. Akuna Matata.

As an American, I absolutely agree with this. I lived in Japan for almost a decade and I found that the structure of the towns were better for me than here in the states. It wasn’t like this in America to this extent until the mid 80’s. I really struggle with depression and anxiety here in the U.S. because of this mindset he’s talking about. When I am staying or living elsewhere, I feel more connected with society. My husband came here to the U.S. for the American dream but I struggle to stay here and anxiously waiting to move abroad again.

One of the dumbest videos ever. I’m an immigrant in the US (now a citizen), except for lack of jobs and weather every thing you talk about applies any where for an immigrant. I wanted to go back when I first moved to the US but fought it out with a low paying job before I ended up becoming an Executive. It’s not just Canada - for brown folks like me moving to Russia would be even worse! Also no immigrant leaves Canada in winter to vacation elsewhere in the world unless they are retired or rich. Immigrants are not bears to not work in winter and hibernate. Fun fact - it rains more in Atlanta than in Vancouver, we had 70” rain in 2020, 50”+ in 2021. Canada is very immigrant friendly in terms of accepting immigrant to come yes but why ? well because immigration is a big business for this country who has not much technology export and in the same time is second biggest country in the world with population less then California alone . Listen any country which is easy ( kind of ) to immigrate its because they need money and cheap workers . Can you immigrate to US or Denmark or any other European country as easy as you can to Canada ? the answer is no with very big N unless you have some thing they don't or need and that thing is not money lol

Canada is like 3 countries in one, so it really depends where you are, especially if you wish to talk about culture. Im guessing you are in western Canada because that part is one of the youngest parts of Canada, it doesnt have much culture. Tho if you are in central Canada (Ontario) you'll most get a blend of american and english culture. The place where hawaiian and canadian pizza invented. Ontario is obsessed with pizza. \nTho the Eastern part is where Canadian culture is at its strongest AKA French Canada. Thats where most Canadian traditions like the Rigodon music and traditional food comes from such as: Pâté Chinois, Tourtière, Poutine, Donair, Poudigne Chômeur, Tarte au Sucre, Tarte au Fraise et Rhubarb and so on. French Canada even has its own version of french, its so different from the rest of the world that when a when they meet they wont understand half the words each sides say. French Canadian is based on the old french of the French nobility tho it completely disapeared in France during the revolutionary era because everyone that spoke it got executed. So french Canadian is basically a unique language now, i can totally see it getting rename as Canadian the language of Canada in the future especially of the west does indeed seperate. But right now its called the Joual. \nI hope i helped you fineeladies in having a better understanding of Canadian culture. \nIn a nutshell: English Canadians dont have a culture while french Canadians are extremely cultural.

Canada is a land with great resources, great opportunity and potential, but for a place with so much supposedly smart people they do alot of dumb things. Been here 7 years now and I have seen so many issues that have obvious solutions but because of some weird culture or heritage or whatever they just keep doing the same thing until it hurts them. The real estate market is an absolute MESS and everybody knows. Money laundering, realtors colluding to set prices, blind auctions etc you name it. But they are just gonna keep doing the same thing until the country is in a major recession. Then everybody is going to be crying for bailouts. The health system is a MESS. Trying to find a doctor is like finding a needle in a haystack. They have them driving taxis instead, claiming that their qualifications arent as good. Yet they dont have enough doctors or nurses to support anything. Coworkers whose spouses work in those industries let me know they have to be working ridiculous shifts because there are not enough people. The taxes are ridiculous. I work in I.T. and taxes are like roughly half my salary. Many coworkers have told me all the illegal stuff they do to get around the taxes. Which I don't do because I wasn't raised like that. But people get taxed so much everyone is doing some thing to try to bypass it. And if you dont know the tricks or dont want to do them, you just get screwed. People don't talk about real issues here. There is alot of fake positivity and optimism because they dont want people to get sad and suicidal from the really long and harsh winter. I used to wonder why there were so many train delays until some one explained to me that many people commit suicides in winter by stepping in front of the trains. The only thing propping up this country is the constant influx of immigrant slave labour through the college system, (Like a ponzi scheme). But the immigrants are going to stop coming here if they cant even afford to live at all. Even the regular citizens cant afford it. So what will the country do after that, since there is an elderly population and not enough people to support the industries? Right now most of the immigrants come here and save up there money to go somewhere else or back home after they realize what a shitshow it is. I even have coworkers born and raised in Canada who are telling me they want to leave. Canada needs to stop patting itself on the back for doing stupid apologies and stuff like that, and actually do economically sound things to stop digging themselves into this hole. Great potential for this country but I don't know if it will ever be realized.

To me, the problem is threefold. a) Toronto and Ontario in general - and perhaps the whole of Canada - are accepting way more immigrants than they have quality jobs for. If you need taxi drivers and plumbers, maybe this experience should be valued way higher than education as part of the existing immigration programs (which is not the case). At least then potential immigrants know this before they come and get stuck in low-paying or relatively OK-paying but repetitive and demoralizing jobs with debts and mortgages that become a trap preventing them from leaving. It's also partially on immigrants themselves who come to Toronto to only find out there's 100 people competing for one spot and that you need to be exceptional - or connected through your ethnic network - to work regular white-collar jobs. b) The official bipartisan policy of non-integration. The naive expectation that having people live in ethnic enclaves will somehow make the overall culture richer is not what happens: instead, people tend to stick to their own communities and the common culture thus gets eroded and limited to economic and financial matters. This makes some cities feel like one large business with everyone networking 24/7 instead of socializing normally. And arguably, having the right culture / social life is what motivates already successful people move in the first place. So when they come and they find out there's nothing but money talk and hustling, they leave (if they're smart). Quebec is doing better in that regard, but then Quebec is not really Canada and it's been pressured to cave in to the same money-centred, uncultured and disconnected society by the feds for decades now. The States is smarter in that it actually makes sure to integrate its immigrants (and let's be honest, many immigrants like being part of a new culture if it fits them) c) Treating real estate as an investment and not as a basic necessity (as Japan or some Nordic countries do, for example). That coupled with a lot of Asian money being laundered in Canada through immigration channels and private equity firms buying whole apartment blocks for rental purposes has led to the highest housing price increase in all of the developed world in the past 20 years or so. The median price of a condo in Toronto is higher than in New York despite the massive gap in salaries and the fact that New York is one of the most expensive cities in the world to begin with. Some draconian measures are needed here to prevent foreign - or even out-of-province ownership -, second property ownership and corporate ownership for renting purposes.

There's a form of discrimination that's rarely talked about but is certainly there - how physically attractive someone is. One of the problems with this, of course, is it's subjective but there are certainly some generalities like being considered pretty or handsome versus mediocre or unattractive. There's also body composition - slender vs not. How do these things have an effect on getting hired or finding an apartment. It may not be as significant but would it also affect shopping in how a person is treated, even if they aren't being closely monitored for theft.\n\nThen there's age-ism.

Yeah, the talking behind back is real and I just don't get it. Especially if it is about a trivial matter. I'd rather have an adult conversation... it is something I am really struggling. Canada is a top 5 worldwide country and surpass 95% of all places on earth in quality of life, career, stable economy etc. They talk like Vancouver/Toronto downtown is the only place to live here. when it comes to cultural differences, what you said there is a huge huge generalization. Why? Some preferred cultural behavior might be true for tiny nations (or small geographic areas). That is because of rather reasonable distances, habits could spread all over that area within past centuries (that is how all that is made). But talking even about Russians is a heavy stereotype. By best guess your Russians from around Moscow area and those close to eastern Chinese borders would differ more than those groups of of Chinese (or Mongolian if Mongolia is also close by), that are right on the other side of that eastern border with their Russian counterparts. And of course by Russians I mean here citizens of Russia and not their ethnicity. \nSo Saying how Europeans are all reserved (which funny enough if you mean Europe geographically would include Moscow), is just a huge misstep. It is like calling all USA citizens to be same way (something you might really want to avoid doing if ever you visit USA).\nAlso Climate. First of all Ontario is not the other name for Toronto or GTA area. It is rather big province. So that weather heavily depends if you are sitting in Toronto, Ottawa, North Bay or Windsor. That humid weather as you stated is only truth for the parts that are closer to those big lakes.\nAnd for the love of god. Canada DOES NOT have a paid insurance. Each province has its own paid insurance. So while certain things might be free in one province (like emergency ambulance), it is partially paid in other province.

Americans put their macaroni & cheese in the oven, Canadians just cook it over the stove in a pot and stir in the seasoning after \n2. Americans have to pay a whole lot of money for their medications, in Canada it's mostly covered \n3. Americans talk with a weird slang dependin on which part their from, in Canada its plain english or french. (but nothing like the UK english at all) \n4. Americans don't make their poutine fries properly, in Canada its done the finest \n5. Americans have access to some of the best shopping malls in the world, Canada has to basically get everything shipped from there at extra cost.\n6. Americans well a good majority of the states can open carry firearms, in Canada that is completely illegal (but you could have a hunting rifle or crossbow if the RCMP license you to)\n7. Americans federal system is the FEDS and the ATF (correct me if i'm wrong), in Canada its the RCMP. (an NO they do not ride horses everywhere.)\n8. Americans have a much warmer weather all year around, in Canada its freezing most of the year and only get 3 ~ 4 months of warm weather.\n9. Americans well mostly in New York they have awesome chopped cheese sandwiches and cheesesteaks, in Canada you could never find that at Subway.\n10. My people have been here for tens of thousands of years, we fought bravely for 300 years to try and keep our land, in the end no one one, but many treaties were signed , the Europeans getting land and the aboriginal people getting money.....a transaction no different than purchasing an item with money...except the amount owing was never paid as it was a lot of money, instead the amount owing was to be paid over a period of time...but this crooked government did not want to pay for the land..rather act like it was one by some kind of decisive war so white privileged people would feel as if they were giving handouts to Aboriginal people. In some cases, I was victim of racism here in Canada and this is what I just did: I speak in French instead to the aggressor; I have done that many times and usually it works; if it is like this indirect form of racism (much more frequent) where a “local” or even sometimes some Immigrants try to look down in me, I just called a friend of mine (who is usually free) and start to chat loudly in french with him!! And believe it or not, my French accent is 99% close to perfection although I do not look like a white French guy… but see… this is exactly why it is very amusing as you can barely imagine how most people act by seeing me talking in French!! Just say something like “… je reste pour une année en plus ici au Canada (make sure you say Canada to attract their attention) Et après je bouge sur Paris….”

Let's be honest: Ontario is hella overrated. Important province and all, I just don’t like when the urban people in Toronto think Canada is all about Toronto. It's a good place in some locations, but everyone seems to talk about them and now other places of Canada (asides from the occasional mention of Quebec or B.C)

I love how you said that the schools in Newfoundland and Labrador are good… the teachers are okay, but there are a LOT of drugs and shit passed around in schools around here. It’s honestly awful. But the picturesque part is true, along with the shitty weather. And downtown St John’s is pretty nice, although it’s filled with skeets (basically people that act like gangsters, that smoke weed, vape, etc etc. It’s only really bad on the west end of St John’s and Mount Pearl though, so you should be fine if you avoid those parts). As much shit as I may have talked here, I still love living here, and it’s certainly better than Manitoba\n\nPS: we newfies have a really wacky accent, that can be kind of hard to understand especially if we’re talking fast. Imagine Scottish, British and a Boston accent mashed together, but people speak 50x faster. So that may take awhile to get used to

People leave every country (if their government allows it) and people enter every country (if that government allows it). That is life - each country has its good and bad points depending on where you live, your personal list of things of must-haves, and your personal bubble of friends and family. I laugh about Vancouver being rainy - it's getting too warm and dry. I miss the rains and colder temperatures - this is not Hawaii LOL Some people have weird expectations. I'm glad Vancouver doesn't have much snow but I'm sure some will complain about that.\n\nTo generalize about any city, country, etc. is just odd - ask yourself what you're looking for, visit at different times of the year, etc. Don't just talk to a handful of people or just visit once LOL It's like changing jobs - sometimes it's the best decision to leave a country or city and sometimes it's not. In other words, DO YOUR RESEARCH and EXPERIENCE IT YOURSELF! Some places you'll love and some places you won't - we love California but would not want to live in a warm place 24/7 but others would. KNOW WHAT YOU WANT but also realize you can change locations later... and yes, children are resilient and no, you don't need your family to help out otherwise why have kids to begin with.

Canada is what you make of it. You can arrive rich and end up poor and you can arrive poor and end up rich. In between that, you can have a great life that balances your needs. I’ve seen immigrants succeed simply because they see the opportunity in front of them . They worked hard in their own counties to stay just above the poverty line ,but when they apply that same effort here it pays off ten times greater. I feel that compared to a lot of immigrants, natural born Canadians come across as spoiled and a little lazy…we are. We haven’t had to struggle the same way someone from a poorer country might have. I’ve talked to people who’ve worked ten to twelve hours a day just to stay afloat. If you did that here you could make plenty of money to live and have some left over. As far as owning a house goes,yes it’s expensive . I feel that homeownership in any country is relatively expensive. Here is a tip; use that soaring home prices to your advantage. Houses are expensive but you can make a lot of money buying and selling. I recommend putting together a buyers group and share the house for a few years, then sell at a profit, buy a bigger house or two smaller houses.try to buy the worst house in the best neighbourhood and fix it up slowly . That house could double in value in five or six years in the Toronto market. This is nothing new of course ,the people from India and China seem to do this a lot here ,it drives up prices and profits. On the downside to this ,you are now part of the problem. As the housing prices are driven up the non wealthy can no longer afford to own a house . They are at the mercy of high rents with no rewards of ownership. They are caught in a cycle of hard work and (relative)poverty. This could also be you if you can’t keep up the house payments and are forced to rent.\nHow well you speak English is important but your native language is also useful here because Canada is half immigrants . As a Canadian that speaks only english (Irish descent)I have to say to all newcomers that I’m very impressed that you have learned a new language and that you may even speak more than two! Don’t be embarrassed about your abilities . I find that in my experience , Canadians do not look down on people just because they don’t know English. In fact ,I’ve known people that have lived here for decades and still know very little English. They are comfortable in their communities and they function just fine. Learn as much English as suits your needs and be proud of any gains you make.\nOutside of Toronto are other cities that you might consider when looking at southern Ontario.From my experience,most are generally the same, just not as big . There are large immigrant communities in London Ontario, Hamilton and just outside of Toronto where housing is just a little bit less expensive but the commute to work is probably longer. This is just my opinion but in the small towns there are less people of colour , (which is what people of no colour call everyone else . I wonder if I’m called a person of no colour in some other culture ? LoL ). That might make it harder for you to feel integrated ,if that’s what you want. I’m not saying that people from other cultures can’t make it in a small town , I’m just saying that it’s definitely not Toronto . Here, people of any nationality can feel like they have a place where they can belong . It seems that no matter where you are from ,there is a community already here that’s set up restaurants and stores and clothing shops and newcomer support systems. And if your from Portugal or China or India or Africa or the Middle East, there are large groups of your kin here that have established roots for generations and you probably know this already.\nToronto means meeting place and that becomes evident quickly. I was born here and it’s one of the things I love the most about my city. I’m not going to say that there isn’t systemic racism here ,the people of no colour still kind of keep the top position , but as we become a minority in a decade or so ,I hope that will shift to a broader spectrum. It’s certainly happening already. One good thing is that the police department tries to hire people of colour so that racialism may play a smaller role. We’re getting used to seeing our politicians more and more reflect their constituents.\nI have to talk about the weather. Because I’m from here I’m used to the extremes of minus thirty and plus thirty . Eventually you get used to it (somewhat). Dressing in the right clothes is important. Summer is easy , but winter is different. It’s trying to kill you. Spend the most that you can afford on winter cloths . If you can afford a quality parka you should get one. The hood can be drawn around the face and stay out of the wind.\nIf not ,think of layers with a outer layer that blocks the wind. We have things called long Johns that are basically full length thick cotton or nylon pants that go on under your pants and a pair of extra thick socks. Buy your boots to fit your thick socks. Try to get the best boots you can afford ,it’s something that you might spend a little extra for but never regret.\nAll in all we are a fairly organized and peaceful society. Most people are friendly and will give you a chance . We have a good social safety net here and you don’t have to be homeless or starving if you don’t want to. There are people and organizations set up to help ,that truly try to get people back on their feet. It’s a good investment that pays off in ways that matter for the quality of life in a big city. I’m not putting my American neighbours down when I say they do things differently. They have their ways ,we have ours. This is just something that we do because we’re trying to learn how to help those that society has discarded or can’t find their place. Sure we have one or two areas where the homeless have pitched tents and we have some resources for them if they want. Unfortunately The mayor recently forced a small camp to move from a very visible place to more scattered locations. There were social workers involved as well as protesters trying to protect them. I didn’t like that happening and I want to see even more resources dedicated to them ,but on the other hand ,we are trying to avoid something like what happens on the streets when it’s just ignored. When I see YouTube videos of the streets of Philadelphia I’m extremely saddened. I thank the lucky stars that I was born in Toronto Canada.\nFor all it’s pollution and expense and crowds ,I think it’s a great place to do almost anything your heart desires . For every ugly building there is a beautiful park ,for every honked horn there is a birds call , for every cold and dark day there is beautiful sunny one around the corner.

Great video, I'm glad you are willing to take off the rosy glasses to talk about Canadian reality. I'm a Canadian born myself and everything that was mentioned in the video is accurate in term of the struggles immigrants face. Canada is a very quiet, safe country and crime rate as well as violence in general is low. But Canada can still be as harsh as its climate so don't be fools, Canada is not Disneyland and it's not for everybody. Cities like Vancouver and Toronto are the most expensive cities in North America (Canada + USA) even more expensive than Los Angeles and Montreal is as expensive as New York. Therefore think twice, prepare yourself and do your research before applying. Using John F. Kennedy's famous quote I might add to conclude: \nDon't ask what CANADA can do for you but what YOU can do for Canada.

I was reading the comments and for me sounds like that those people are talking about another country. I am Brazilian, I would like that you guys have a chance to living here, haha, it´s so expensive, a lot of fo taxes, racism, corrupt politicians all the time. I have a friend living in Montreal and for her, it´s like a dream.

I came to Canada when I was 9 years old with my father and sister so in some ways I was young so it was easy in a way for me, but as I got older it hit me being Spanish dominican ?? the culture different it's quite obvious, you're absolutely right people stick together in their own Community or culture, and is kind of hard to make friends, I know Spanish people here in Canada Toronto but they seem to stick to themselves and you were to think because I'm also Spanish that would have been easy for me to talk to them, but is not so sadly, without offending anyone Canada is not for anyone, you gotta be strong, Brave, quick, and smart. Credit matter alot here in Canada or you're nobody, having reference matters a lot or you cannot get anything done, the level of education matter alot here in Canada, and many more.. I can go on but there pros and cons like every country, but in all honesty I don't see myself living here forever I'm planning to move.

Ashir, I like you, you talk well. I would add my opinion here you are still angry about Pakistan. Yes so much is wrong in Pakistan but again so much is wrong in Canada. And equally so much is right in Canada and we all know so so much is right in Pakistan. My advice, chose your wrongs and rights carefully and wisely.\nFor viewers a hint, listen to his advice and try to practice all he says while living in Pakistan. You have almost a head start of 3-5million pkr ( which generally is consumed before immigrating/settling in Canada). Life is tough every where but tough doesn't mean sad and gloomy it can be fulfilling and rewarding whether Canada etc. Or Pakistan.

He is not talking about absolutely harsh weather…where you can not leave door without fully packed thats not 4 months or less you are talking about 8 months in canada…extreme weather, bad food, tasteless fruits and vegetables, no family support, kids living without cousins and relatives, if you want your children to be raised muslim you have to find good muslim school. Its not that easy not for everyone. Its for young people come earn save and go back. A small house in canada would cost you a million which is about 12 cror that loan you will be paying for the rest of your life. If you have a little bit of cash you would be so much better off in Pakistan. If there was a war going on in pakistan like syria palestine then yes right now it would be a stupid decision for majority of people to move here.
