I migrated to Canada more than 30 years ago, and about 20 years plus, I was offerred a very good job in the US, and the company offered to apply the green card for me, and as a single parent with a young child, I do not want to take the rise; moreover I wanted my son to have a French education, that he could get it free in Canada. When looking back, I regretted for not accepting the offer; but on the bright sight, my son had all his Canadian university education on scholarship and currently he has moved and living in the US.

I have visited Canada for the first time in 1978 and again in 2006. My ex-wife is Canadian. I am not sure why Canadians have this reputation of being friendly. They are not impolite but they are definitely not friendly towards newcomers. I have lived in Germany, Italy, Greece, Thailand and my current home Australia and those countries are much friendlier than Canada.

I would never move back to live there full time again. It's too expensive, the taxes are way too high and the quality of life is worse than a 3rd world country. \n\nIf you are currently living in Canada I would suggest to leave as soon as you can and build options in other countries around the world.

You are correct on every point. The current political landscape enables socio-economic disparities. This country is not what it used to be 15 years ago. To carry out meaningful improvements would take an incredible amount of political will I do no foresee coming anytime soon, the housing issues would get much worse and whoever pays rents must brace themselves.

We pay 40 to 45% in taxes aside from property tax, expensive housing, utiities and food. the current government ruling is the main reason people wanting to leave Canada. you can not blame them just when they think they have seen it all the government adds new taxes(Carbon) we pay all these taxes but we get our garbage picked up once a week!? when a thief steals from you here the police tells you report it yourself online!? there is many problems here but the government pushes to teach little kids sexual contents!? It is quite astonishing that numerous individuals, including Americans, are relocating to Mexico. The government is currently implementing actions to address this situation.

Canada is now a much different place than in 1996 when I moved to this country which I called home since. Cost of leaving is really punishing for many and retiring here while maintaining a decent life style is almost impossible for regular people. I'm already planning my retirement in other places and I'm well on my way of achieving it. This is the unfortunate situation which many Canadians are currently facing. This is such a badly researched report from BBC. The title of the video talks about citizenship applications dropping but they provide no data to back it up even if it's true. Then they only go to Punjab and talk to a student who left Canada before they became a PR. So that's irrelevant to the story. Then a chunk of the report is about the international student cap which in no way reduces current citizenship applications. The report should only concentrate on PRs leaving the country or choosing to not apply for citizenship. They only had one example of that in the whole video. Also interview PRs from other places other than Punjab. The story might be the same but it's good to know.

Biggest issue in Canada is infrastructure. Canadian infrastructure and urban planning is a copy of post war American suburbia abd the results are that it has made housing impossible as the current rules basically has abolished any construction of missing middle housing for the middle class in 90% of Canadian neighborhoods for housing. Infrastructure and services in medium and small cities are nowhere near major city hub making big city centers expensive not even mentioningthe terrible public transportation they have ( for a G7 nation is an embarrassment that their passenge rail service is 40 years behind Europe) . In addition foreign degrees even from English nations are not recognized and it takes years and resources to get accreditation.

We have a current goverment who thinks they can solve this with a tax on another tax. Bare with them.

While Canada is indeed a beautiful country, especially from spring to fall, there is no doubt that it has fallen behind severely in recent years. This is a massively underperforming country and people (Canadians and immigrants alike) are struggling big time. There is a massive leadership problem in Canada, where trivial problems get 99% of the attention. Real problems (which are easily solvable by the way) get little to no attention at all. Either there is very little will or the current administration is simply incompetent. Either way, some structural changes need to happen before Canada can recover.

I have recently come across the case of a young Irish woman with a brain tumour currently living in Canada and whose treatment by the Canadian public health system has been frankly shocking. I live in Britain and over the last few years, there have been increasingly negative reports coming out of Canada, in particular regarding its lax immigration system; its encouragement of Third World migrants; adoption of multiculturalism and an illiberal liberalism which has seen conservative figures like Dr Jordan Peterson bullied and professionally sidelined. It sounds like a lot pf the blame can be laid at the door of its virtue-signalling, narcissistic prime minister, Justin Trudeau. Tragic that yet another great society built by Europeans is now in the process of being dismantled.
