Canada has us as a buffer from a country desperate to get in, and they are still allowed to have very secure borders without getting flack.\n\nWhen America just doesn't want the faucet of immigration on full blast, we are the bad guys.\n\nThe Fentanyl excuse is absurd when it comes to Canada and the tariffs. It's a legitimate concern from the southern border. The northern border has never been an issue...

The tariffs have NOTHING to do with fentanyl coming over the border, that's just another lie. DT doesn't give a fig if Americans die as a result of drug addiction. Have you ever heard him talk with compassion about how to actually help drug addicts in this country? This is about control, and power, and it's personal. He is a menace to all and we gotta stop him.

Canadian here. Wake up Canadians. Many people are praising Trudeau for this speech. Don't. He is out as Liberal leader within the week. He doesn't have to follow through on anything he said. Plus, he just stated that he's smart enough to suggest that Trump just put a 25% tax on Canadian goods for Americans but he also thinks that you are dumb enough not to realize that he just put a 25% tax on Canadians for American goods. Trudeau basically created the situation for these tariffs (open border to let anyone come here). He loves this as he gets to take the apparent moral high ground for the first time in his life and wants this speech to be the way he is remembered rather than years of failing Canada. Forget about the last 9 years and vote Liberal if you are a fool.

Money doesn't grow on trees. Can't borrow money and then forever borrow more money to pay for the interest on that money. Have to pay for that support that has already been given to Ukraine sometime and Tariffs are one way of doing that by getting that money from Americans in the USA.

Trump went against the trade deal that he made with Canada and Mexico when he renegotiated the existing deal during his first term. Trump called his deal with them beautiful and perfect. Trump does not keep the deals he makes to other countries or to the Americans who voted for him. \n\nTrump's final push in his campaign was to cut costs for Americans at the checkout, chuckling at the strange sound of the word 'groceries' to him. He has never worried about or dealt with buying groceries. The moment he got back into office, he said that lower prices wasn't happening and that the American people would suffer. \n\nThen he and Republicans began cuts in jobs and government services to Americans as well as others in the world, so that no one can trust Trump --- and in the case of others in the world, it reflects so bad on the U.S. and against any trust in the U.S. anymore. No president has ever done so much damage at home and abroad so quickly. \n\nTrump is the Deceiver and the Destroyer. Trump doesn't care if his voters figure it out. They are no longer needed.

Trump is attempting to offset his tax cuts by implementing a tax that isn't called a tax. All of the money from the tariffs goes to the government. Trump has mentioned when tariffs were common as supporting what he is doing, but he doesn't add that at that time, there wasn't an income tax, so tariffs were how the government supported itself. Trump, knowing that tariffs are income for the government, is lying to his base so they will accept the increased prices as a necessary evil to battle the bad countries of Mexico and Canada. It will look like his tax breaks aren't hurting as much as they are and price increases will be the fault of the other countries.\n\nTrump is a conniving grifter with no knowledge of how to run a country's economy or international trade. He is gaslighting the American public to cover his own shortcomings.\n\nAlso, if fentanyl is entering the US, why is it the fault of the other countries? It is the job of the US to stop anything on its side of the border. Canada and Mexico do what they can to catch the drugs while inside their respective countries. The tons of cocaine and guns that enter Canada and Mexico from the US are caught by their border services; they don't blame the US for the products getting past their own border agents, and the US takes no responsibility for it making it across the border. Why is it other countries' fault for drugs getting past the US's border agents, but not the fault of the US that guns and drugs are going in the other direction? That is why countries work together, not fight over whose fault it is and try to punish each other.

I recall a date now known universally as 9-11. Aircraft bound for USA landing in my home province because US airspace was shut down. 17 large aircraft parked in St. John's (where I live), and 27 parked in Gander (much smaller town, but has a big airport). I've lost track of whatever other aircraft had to find a home and a home for their passengers. Today, over two decades later, this is a stain on the US executive. Not Americans, the executive office. Our “so-called” president doesn’t give two shits about the American people.

This has nothing to do with Canada or the Canadian people. This is a pure transactional move because that is how Trump sees things. He needs the money to finance his agenda and he has been told that the money does not exist in terms of what the US Congress can provide. They won't cut military spending and they wouldn't dare touch SS or Medicare. Therefore, Trump is resorting to the only available option which is to have the American people pay for it all and that is what he is doing with these tariffs. He doesn't need to worry about reelection so he couldn't care less how much pain he is inflicting on the very people who voted for him. Elections have consequences.
