As a Canadian I don't like PM Trudeau but he is bang on about tariffs harming everyone and this speech here is fire ? This is going to end badly for Trump just like it did in his first presidency because it will hurt American's economically, and eventually they will push back against Trump. Love that he calls him Donald, not president Trump...LOL.

As a Canadian myself,,, I am more than desepointed about all of this… Because to me, The United States Of America,,, they were the perfect example of what it was to be a true hero! But now,,, because of one person,,, it has turned to a True Dictatorship… And,,, as Canadians,,, we must be hopeful that America will be once again this Really great Country of Brotherhood and also, it will become once again this Land Of Peace And Prosperity that we desperately need right now! I effectively spent a chunk of my childhood in America with relatives. I treasured these memories, but now all the feelings of wonder and happiness when thinking of my visits to America have faded. Now I just think of how selfish it was to sabotage Canada. American private equities want to rock our system and buy up all they can and so I am happy we are watching for this. I think Donald did this to try and buy up Canadian companies. This should be made illegal. Canada has the ability to help our allies get nuclear weapons to protect against “America as our #1 enemy now”. Trump wants everyone to spend money on military to fuel the American military industrial complex, something each and every huge tech company you have participated. You have essentially been taken over by a global entity that doesn’t care about democracy. We are going to manufacture our own weapons to have zero dependency on America. This is not anti-American, it is just fighting back from an unnecessary trade war. It does however break my heart because many Canadians have family on the U.S. side. I know it would also break my father’s heart as he grew up in New England and had a lifetime affection for the U.S. I despise politics and have not been a proud Canadian for a few years but I have to admit that this speech is getting me going again. Canada needs to get its act together and rebuild its military, not to fend off the U.S. but to hold its own should other countries decide we are ripe for the picking. I want U.S.-Canada relations to be tight again. We’re neighbor. We will have our disagreements and that’s fine but these trade wars will hurt everyone and, if it lasts, may leave lasting grievances.

Trump is in it for destruction, the more complete the destruction the better. USAID destruction is only an example. It would have been better to call the move “ill-advised”. Referring to POTUS by first name and saying it was “dumb” is just going to provoke DJT who everyone, fans and critics alike, knows is vain and does not have the humility to accept insults. It’s Trudeau breaking shtuff on his way out. He doesn’t have the mandate to put us in a worse position; he is being selfish, I think, in taking an unnecessary low-brow jab. Calling it ill-advised or similar gives Trump an out, to pass the buck to Lutnik when it becomes apparent that this tariff idea is a steaming pile for everyone involved.

I can't believe he is siding with Russia. I don't get why he would want to risk having Canada as a potential enemy. I'm not sure to what extent, but still. I don't know much about politics but I hope for our sake, this isn't permanent. Why do that to an ally that we have been working with together for decades? Makes no sense. That's the thing, though. All Trump has been asking for all along is for Canada & Mexico to DO THEIR PART in stemming the illegal immigration and Fentanyl from crossing into the United States. Nearly 100,000 Americans die each year from Fentanyl overdoses. The raw ingredients come from China and into their respective nations, where they are processed and made into Fentanyl, then brought into the U.S. Neither nation has taken Trump seriously and Biden didn't give a crap and actually assisted with bringing in more of everything. Now both nations get to deal with the results of their inactions. Remember, these are reciprocatory tariffs to simply equal what American goods are charged by Canada & Mexico already. NOW everyone is on an equal playing field. If these nations want lower tariffs, they can go first and then the U.S. will match it to theirs... It's that simple.

As much as this will suck for all Canadian and US citizens, I fully support Canada. I applaud everyone standing up to our despicable Pres and his billionaire posse. Let them eat their money and go to hell.

The US isn't launching a trade war against anyone. We are closing up shop and are getting ready to take care of our own. There is a massive difference. We cannot be expected to continue supporting other countries economies and defense obligations, when we have 2 generations of working class citizens unable to afford a home or have children. We have entire countries we could fill with the homeless and incarcerated, and veterans who see little to no positive treatment or respect within the job market. Things are already very very bad here in the states. I don't think many Americans realize how bad the economy is. Tariffs will force US companies to reduce the outsourcing of jobs, and force other countries who are over-reliant on trade from the States, to cultivate their own self-sufficiency. This may seem hypocritical when it comes to China, but that isn't a problem you can solve overnight. \n\nTo make it clear, Americans are going to suffer in the wake of this tariff decision, but that is the price we pay to force ourselves to change. We have made ourselves into a very weak country because of overreliance on other countries trade, and other countries overreliance on our intelligence, infrastructure, medical advancements, technological advancements, and defense capabilities. The american consumer and taxpayer front the bills for all of this, and they are suffering. This isn't a war on the rest of the world. It us telling everyone else that we can no longer be relied upon because we are weak. \n\nI didnt' even vote Trump the first two times he ran. As a german I can okay say wow. What a difference. That’s the way a leader of a country should speak and behave like.
