Honestly the batshit crazy comment reflects the #1 concern most Canadians have with the United States. We have conservatives and religious types but they're all more or less respectful and they don't try to control Canadian society. In comparison, at least a fifth of Americans are borderline fascists, and none of us want anything to do with those types of people. Since Trump took office they've become a hundred times worse, as now they're even threatening annexation. Sorry if it's hard to accept, but America has a serious problem right now, even if you're a good person.

If we had our own of anything we would have been using them! Thats why we buy these goods from these other countries! The American people as well as Canadian are not equipped financially to handle this right now. We literally are fighting to survive. Not the rich folks, they are fine. They may not see the consequences of these choices but the working people that work everyday..... this is gonna literally kill us! People wake tf up!

This is a “war” the Canadians will lose. They have very little leverage in comparison to the leverage we have in the US. Drop all Canadian tariffs on US goods, allow US banks to operate in Canada, and stop fentanyl from crossing your border and then we’ll talk. Until then your going to lose big league.

I personally think that Tariffs are not going to be good for US economy long term, i also think that if Trump is too heavy with Canada they might become hostile towards America long term

Good, Strong leadership!\n\nNow we wait on Putins traveling through the Berings sund for visit Alaska=US.

Well just dons voting base exceeds the population on Canada. Canada will be hurt more than US. Because we have more consumers to buy Canada goods

We fought for our country to establish good laws- they would not fight for theirs and now have bad laws- so they want too take from us. It is good to help others, but we also must help ourselves and we are in debt. It must stop.

This Tarriff thing would only work, if the US is able to be 100% self sufficient. Which is impossible. We will always need goods that dont originate in the US. And its better to have friends than enemies. This could be Trumps demise. And will have zero effect on Fentanyl.

How can you call us a friend you buy nothing from us you make it hard for us to sell in your country. but yet we import all your goods. Taking advantage of us is not being a friend.

Thought Trump was going to do good for the us/ the western world. But he has literally lost it now.

Trump also caused China to cut the flow of Rare Earth Minerals to the US which lead to the attempt to extort Ukraine of its natural resources. Similar situation , failure to recognize that China is supplying the raw materials driving the surge in technical advancement. To then try to deny the product of that raw material supply, aka cutting edge Chips.. back to China, is moronic. In Trumps world a Win/Win is a sign of weakness...except now China cut off the US from supply and there is no replacement.... Annnnnnnnd so the logical move is to pick other things being supplied and do the same to Canada..... when Canada pulls the plug on supply, the result will be the same. EVERYONE worldwide should take note and begin cutting supplies to the US and ceasing dependance on US manufacturers in favor of those with governments who will accept Mutually beneficial relationships as what they are...a Win/Win. China and Canada should deepen ties. Ukraine is better off working with Russia than allowing itself to be extorted. Everyone else should distance themselves from the US and honestly this damage Trump is doing will take decades to undo. The US is not reliable so long as they fail recognize international law and fair trade when it doesnt suit them... this is good for noone, but it will be worst on the US. Thats how WW2 started... Tariffs collapsed the German economy. Caused the Great depression. Germany and its people were forced into a corner. This is what Trump and his masters are trying to do. Starting WW3 is on someones agenda and whomever that is is also pulling Trumps strings. Bad times ahead

Why is it US truckers can only deliver goods loaded in the US to Canada or Mexico? Why is it a driver can take goods loaded in Canada or Mexico and deliver them at multiple points throughout the United States? Why did American truckers support Canadian truckers when Peter Pan Trudeau was jailing Canadians for honking their horns? Why is it American has beens and generals turned media stars always know what's best for the whole damned world when they haven't lived as a ciilian for thirty or forty years? Why is it when there is no war dumb asses all over the world want to start one? Why didn't Europe listen when they were being warned forty years ago to strengthen their NATO members military? How many armed Russian tanks that squared off against American tanks in Berlin in 1961 were made and manufactured in Ukraine? Why is it it's always so hard for lefty socialists claiming to be democrats refuse to accept the change from their worldly liberal socialist big government ideals to a smaller more conservative governent posture around the world? Why do........................................

He is sure a good bs er just become a state to the US. He is scared. Americans will be just fine. And say thanks to the nice boarder patrol that yelled and ridiculed me when I was a nice guy going to Canada to ride bikes at whistler a few years back and accusing me of smelling like alcohol and I was completely sober with my friend. Canada is a crap shoot. Good luck.

This is why THE WORLD respects Trudeau. Dumb ass Trump thinks he's genius for imposing tarrif's to their long standing economic partners, but he is ACTUALLY DOING MORE HARM THAN GOOD to the american people. Countries will tarrif back hurting both businesses and the american people he so wish to give a good life to. They are a bunch of clowns who are basically just giving us good television. Americans are not dumb. Trump will keep on twisting and twising the narrative to sell his side of the story, but it's clear as day that the only back Trump has ever got is Putin's. Sadly, America is becoming a lapdog of Russia under Trumps pretentious leadership.

Now that's what I call a leader. We're with you all the way Canada, stay strong and stand up for yourselves. I can't say the UK government is going to follow through with their current tough stance but can can only cross our fingers that the UK and the rest of Europe stand with us all. Good luck. ?

there were no significant tariffs on US goods prior to Trumps war…the last trade agreement worked those out. Thus why you can’t do business with the US…can’t be trusted as they change the deal. Sad for the US

Canada ?? come on - buy European goods. Much more high quality standard and better food, buy our food and cooperate with us without taxes ?? ? ??

Aa a Mexican / American I’m so concerned about what is happening in The US right now ! … same thing that is happening to Canadá is happening to Mexico ! How could Trump betray the good relationships the US had with both of its neighbors and primary economic partners? …. I’m concerned about Mexicans in the US ! Is not about illegal migration anymore !! Only Mexicnas and Latinos are being targeted !! This is not the country of freedom and democracy anymore !!!

Based on the trade data, Canada would likely be in a worse position in a trade war with the United States. Here's why:\n\n1. Canada sends approximately 75% of its total exports to the US, while the US only sends about 18% of its exports to Canada. This creates a significant asymmetry in dependency.\n\n2. The US economy (around $27 trillion) is roughly 13 times larger than Canada's economy (about $2.1 trillion), giving the US more cushion to absorb economic shocks.\n\n3. he US typically runs a trade deficit with Canada (approximately $135 billion in goods in 2023), which means Canada sells more to the US than it buys, making Canadian producers more vulnerable to US tariffs.\n\n4. The US has more diversified export markets globally, while Canada is heavily reliant on the US market.\n\nThat said, a trade war would harm both countries:\n\n- Highly integrated supply chains, especially in automotive manufacturing, would be disrupted\n- Border regions in the US would face significant economic impacts\n- US consumers would face higher prices for Canadian goods (energy, raw materials)\n- Specific US industries dependent on Canadian inputs would face challenges\n\nWhile Canada would likely face more severe macroeconomic consequences, a trade war would ultimately be lose-lose, damaging industries and consumers on both sides of the border.

Canada has imposed a 10% tariff on us for years, while America has only charged 2%. This behavior does not reflect a good neighborly relationship; rather, it appears to be another instance of taking advantage of American taxpayers. A significant portion, approximately 70%, of Canada's GDP is derived from products purchased by Americans; one might question the effectiveness of extortion in this context. It is time you reconsider, little Emperor.

My husband and I were both immigrants to Canada, he from S. Africa, I from the UK. I never experienced any discrimination. My busband was diagnosed with late stage bone cancer at 31 years old. The medical care was so good that he lived another 6 mostly happy years. We were supported by the Ontario Health Care system with visiting nurses, even housekeepers and received every help we could possibly need, at no cost to us. I will always be grateful for the love and support we received from Canadian friends, employers and the medical professionals. What a country! I am in Europe now but feel strongly that Canada, the EU, Britain, the wonderful Ukrainians (I know quite a few refugees) and other countries of good will should work together for a better world. We are a family and families support each other in difficult times. Americans welcome when they are ready.

The people of Hawaii, I think, would love if Hawaii were a province of Canada. Why? Because Canada has the same values as Hawaii's people. Canada is full of people of good quality--people who believe in freedom, opportunity, good neighbors, and a peaceful life in a beautiful environment. Think about it Canada . . . send us a proposal.

American here that has extensive relationships in Canada. We don’t want this tariff war but the tariffs being implemented first by the Trump administration on behalf of US were punitive for violating USMCA and tied directly to the border defects. This was made known in advance and you repeated empty promises. Take your medicine and get well fast. Instead of doing that, you are taking an action that will beget reciprocal tariffs. Implement $30B and Trump will add $30B….add another $125B later and Trump will add another $125B. Heads up….America wants good partners and looks forward to being past this as well. In the meantime, we are prepared to pay more (or live with less) as we get back up on our feet. We have a lot of internal healing and cannot carry any other countries right now. Not sure if that was ever a good thing for either of us. Time to heal our broken ways ….sorry if you got used to our last administration being feckless.

Canada has imposed prohibitive taxes on a vast amount of US goods for decades.
|
| 2025-03-05 | 0 |
Not a very good speech. Over 90% of drug traffic reduction in 1 month, which really proves what Trump said. US official knows that significant reduction, yet, they still impose the tariff. Why will you still spend so much money to help America if they do not appreciate? Grow a pair!!!

Spot on. I left Canada because of all these issues. Any of my friends who are still there simply don’t understand that there’s a long term problem that has nothing to do with US tariffs. The country is weak, poorer than it needs to be, and not in a good spot due to focusing so much on real estate and immigration.

The fentanyl BS from Trump is so insulting. The US wastes insane amount of time and money catching and jailing LSD, weed, and shrooms users and acts like Canada's dedicated focus on dangerous hard drugs isn't good enough. He should mind his stupid war on harmless drugs instead of attacking people tackling the truly dangerous ones

Not even the Canadians care what this clown says. They absolutely HATE him. Furthermore, Canada already taxes US goods at upwards of 350% in some cases. The time for taking advantage of America is over. EVERY American should be happy about that. The people in these comments supporting this tool are ignorant fools.

I'm ashamed to say that our president is an absolute traitor to our allies and to its people. Somehow his cult followers were able to get him back into office instead of prison. Now all of us are having to suffer please do not lose faith we will figure out a way to get rid of the Trump regime once and for all as well as Elon Musk were so sorry about what they've done there will be payback for them for many levels just know that the United States people love Canada always have always will one of our greatest allies and our good neighbor. Sorry about Donald Trump he's a prick

For all the people across the world stating their support for Canada: join us in boycotting all American goods! Better to take the extra time and pay the extra dollar now than to wait for your country to be next!

Shill and suck for putin bc hes scary but strong arm, tariff, and insult our closest allies. We sold out to the kremlin. Yall voted for russian commie sympathizing losers thatre gonna ruin our economy. Good job. Mexico and Canada will still produce these things, theyll just sell them to a dofferent country with no tariffs, and tariff what they do sell us. This only hurts and undermines america and american interests, it helps our allies and enemies while simultaneously furthering our allies and alienating them from us. Its brain dead.

The net effect is positive for the US and it will reduce the trade deficit and more over he can use the surplus to offer subsidies while also reducing the national debt as well. This is a good play from Trump, but the liberals will never understand him because they think with their emotions.

Canadian imports are about 1% of America's GDP. It's not an issue. lol. Canada's exports of goods to the US is about 31% of it's GDP. Go ahead and poke the bear Justin.

I think we need to give it time. In a year or two picture should be clear. I don't think tariffs are necessary a bad thing long term if they spike more production of everything or at list anything in US. Short term it would be painful for everybody tho. We become a country of no production. Only consumption is not healthy. It is how every empire behaves on a last breath. Look back in history. Rom, Spain etc.Sooner or later we wouldn't be able to exchange worthless green paper to goods anymore outside of the country unable to produce anything inside the country and we die. Personally I find it interesting and possibly well thought experiment.. Living the way we did last 50 years is not possible anymore. Something need to change and at list Donald is trying unlike those useless talking heads. How will it ends. Who knows. I can only hope for success. In worst case we'll have unending supply of discounted bourbon:).

Who are actually benefiting from this? US consumers are gonna pay more for goods, the exporters seem worried about it. Only Trump seems excited about it and the rich people probably don't care.

From the middle east : the US launched a war against Iraq for absolutely no reason at all (except to steal its oil) and it proceeded to lie and conjure up fantasy after fantasy of wmds. Now, the US has turned on its allies, since it sucked the literal life out of us. Good. Let's see how the US is going to start calling Canadians terrorists in a few years. I'll get my popcorn.

Your no friend the Canadian people are did they already told you they want you gone so but you have to say don't matter You don't even make vehicles and you tariff our vehicles do you need us a lot more than we need you And as far as pooling goes yes he's a dictator and not a good person but he also did want he had to do for his country since NATO kept moving east after promising not to and yet we still try to help you trade and they want to try to be tough guys like you how's that working for both of you

1) he's not speaking directly to anyone but a camera, 2) he could simply cancel the digital service tax, the 200% tariffs canada puts on US for dairy, HVAC, and other products. He's a lying hypocrite who put us in this position by not negotiating in good faith.

Some persons were just talking about their sentiments on their personal point of view but looking at US point of view, know that the US trade deficit (Deficit exists where US import from another nation to US exceeds US export to that nation from US) with Canada exceeded 58 billion dollars in 2024; with Mexico is more than 170 billion dollars in 2024; and with China is more than 295 billions dollars in 2024. In the Philippines, Philippine entrepreneurs and the like who are exporting their products had been enjoying tax incentives (It does mean when exports live the country versus imports being received by the country then) as Philippine export earning is the one making the Philippine economy richer with money gained while import is making the money to go out of the country (going out as cost or expense) then while being revenue of another country (so that the profit of a country which is revenue less the expense is obviously what is the truth about any argument about tariff (which in a way is discriminating the deficit in becoming wider and wider to the pleasure of those who loved imported goods then).
