My friend from India was on a work permit near Toronto but asked for a transfer to the US as he wasn’t happy with how Canada is alleging an assassination on a Khalistani activist. I guess he is an outlier wanting to leave as my impression in Vancouver is we had quite a rise in immigration from India.

Yes, white people came to the new world and conquered the natives. For the next few hundred years they built western society as we know it. They were immigrants from different places, but they were mostly homogeniously white, and more importantly, they had commonality in their social norms, holidays, cultures, laws and religion. Mostly English, Irish, Scottish, French, German, polish, etc. -- they blended well and eventually created their own unique shared identities in Canada and United States. Things were stable and people were happy. Immigrants continued to flow, but in smaller numbers over greater lengths of time. This allowed time for integration, learning the common language, finding decent employment and housing, ect. Then Immigrants from vastly different cultures started arriving and in greater numbers, and greater rates... Job availability, housing, educational/medical services, travel infratructure could not keep pace with the sheer speed and amount of people flooding in. Therefore, everything and everyone suffered, and it isn't stopping.

My experience has been different. Came at age 48 with family mostly for children future. Initial struggle followed by more than 20 years full time work in a company owned by Canadian but most of us working immigrants from different countries. Had a wonderful experience working as a team. Company grew from 5 including owner to about 30 when I retired. Most of of my contribution was from skills I obtained on the job. The flexibility I got was help to spouse and children. The three of them achieved good outcomes. Taxes are high. I never worried about that as children had professional education with no financial help. Only my steady basic facilities provided as I had steady though lower income than what I had back home in relative terms. What we get back from taxes we pay in health civic facilities education for children is great return of taxes paid. What I got was quality living. No luxuries. My purpose of coming here more than fulfilled. Happy family. Grand children now enjoying higher quality of life than what I had or my own children had. I do notice recent trends of immigrants expectations not very encouraging. I have enjoyed the multicultural atmosphere friendship and regard for each other. My colleagues and I have been of great asset to the company we worked in.

One major issue which gets ignored is that the money these immigrants (specially Indian)make gets recycle back to their own home country instead of getting recycle here to improve the economy here in Canada. \nThey are sending Canadian made money back home to get invested and spent. They rather live cheaply here and scam the system to save pennies here than spend money here to help the economy. This is pure Indian mentality about feeling so happy and proud when you cheap out of stuff for example not giving tips in a restaurant even though when service charge is not added.

A Ukrainian immigrant here. Absolutely in love with beautiful canadian nature, cute little houses, especially townhouses in toronto, just so wholesome. As for life, you gotta be some sort of specialist like a doctor, or a proper construction worker, or a truck driver to have a decent life that goes beyond just getting by and eking out an existence. On my own i can make enough money for food and rent, but thats about it, and im happy about it, really, i get to be alive thanks to canada, but i really hope i could move out of here as soon as it becomes safe, or just move to a cheaper country thats a decent distance away from russia. I ended up being unemployed and i do feel like im in quite a real danger on eventually becoming homeless if i dont manage to procure a job, and you know how the job market is now. As for health care, i simply dont have access to it, at least i dont have a family doctor and have been trying for a while to get one. I haven't tried walking ins yet since i prioritize food over health now but i might someday. I just hope that whatever sickness bugs me is minor, i cant do anything about it. My teeth hurt too, but i cant afford a dentist, and ive found one Clinique in toronto that helps immigrants fix their teeth for cheap, they can help you with three teeth in total, and i've used up one of it, and saving the rest for real emergencies. I cant eat anything except for real soft food, and i know im not gonna get any help i could afford any time soon.\nOnce i get a job i will be saving as much money as i can to leave Canada, i don't know where yet but i'm doing my research and hopefully will find a place, and if not well, sucks to suck. It's hard for everybody out there, i'm just one of the millions if not billions who go through that.\n\nAlso I don’t think ‘nobody wants to live in Canada’ is entirely accurate. It seems that the idea of canada, and the way its marketed, attracts a lot of new immigrants, and a lot of people would love a chance to live in Canada. It's simply not true. But after the fact , once they have , i could believe that some are not willing to stay and might regret the decision of moving in the first place.

I am an EU citizen, moved initially from Romania to Czech republic, where I was for 2 years and then last year I decided to give Germany a try. Given that the SW engineering field that I am part of allows me to live comfortably in most EU countries, I am planning to relocate back to CZ or Romania within max 2 years. I was pretty much shocked to find out that compared to the costs, the salary isn't all that great vs living in a bigger Romanian city and that it's a complete downgrade vs Czech Republic, and I'm saying this as someone who lived in Prague of all places. \nOverall, salary aside, everything has been a downgrade for me vs Romania and significantly worse vs Czech Republic. \nI guess nationalist germans will be happy to hear this, one less immigrant willing to stay here and convincing others at the same skill tier to try any other EU country(minus bulgaria and austria).

I am so sorry, as a native Canadian, that Indians are feeling attacked. It is difficult, no matter your ethnic background, if you are not Indian to even acknowledge these issues because people are afraid of being labelled as racist so I thank you for bringing this topic up. Please understand this is the result of runaway immigrations with no real screening. The government quadrupled immigration, hundreds of percents increase in students, asylum seekers, and illegal entries, even though there was already a housing crisis, and a completely predictable doctor shortage due to aging out. Covid was just starting to get under control but many still needed treatment and BOOM, the population went from 30 million in 2014 to over 40 million in a decade, most of it in the last 3 years. We native Canadians are scratching our heads, we don't understand what the Liberals are trying to accomplish but to create suspicion and racism between groups of people -- divide and conquer? Maybe...but ultimately it is a complete lack of planning! Still 99 percent of Canadian born do not blame Iindividual ndians for this. I've lived and worked with Indians my entire life of over 60 years. There are now Indian gangs, particularly Punjabi gangs because of lack of oversight, and while they are small they are constantly committing crimes, selling drugs, shooting people all in the last few years. I hear gun shots nightly in my ethnically mixed neighbourhood, and we are all afraid to walk at night. Unfortunately the people arrested are mostly from continental India. Some have a political agenda that has to do more with India than Canada, so they recruit young Indo-Canadian children from good families and tell them they are being oppressed, and next thing these kids are acting as drug mules and enforcers, being told that they are fighting systemic racism. As for dancing and music, I love the cultural events, we are happy to see and even take part in Indian cultural events. IWhen I do hear people blaming India and Indians it breaks my heart too! Hopefully together we can fix this. Our governments are at odds, and I hate this -- they need to respectfully talk and work this out. You are good neighbours, good people, you are welcome here and have helped build Canada in so many positive ways. ?

I am a born and raised Canadian and have seen my country go downhill for at least the last couple of decades.\nHealth Care: doctors and nurses are moving Stateside in droves. No, the US doesn’t have universal health care but there are insurance plans and the care is enormously better. My girlfriend had 4th stage throat cancer. In Calgary the doctors at some point told her there was nothing more they could do for her and to get her affairs in order. Her father sent her to the Anderson Clinic in Houston - yes it was expensive but they treated her, saved her life and that was 24 years ago. \nIt’s common in our emergency rooms to wait up to 12 hours to be seen. \nOur system isn’t progressive and doctors and nurses don’t get paid near as well as in the States. That being said, I am happy that I don’t have to pay to see the doctor or have a stay in the hospital. \nCost of Living: Once upon a time it was good - housing was cheap and many companies had the full range of benefits and salaries were equal to the cost of living. Now these same companies have stripped the benefits by hiring people under contract so they don’t have to give them benefits. \nRents are through the roof and in Calgary there are no rent caps. Buying a decent house in a decent neighbourhood is impossible unless you inherit or make a six figure income. This, in no small part, has created a homelessness crisis that never had been seen in such numbers before. Crime also is getting worse by the day. Canada was once known as a safe country. This is no longer the case.\nEverything is very expensive and the tax very high. Plus, we have to suffer winter! Where I live, the joke is that we have two seasons - July and winter!\nI still like my city (not love) but I am retired and own two houses - one inherited and the other bought when it was affordable (32 years ago). Calgary would not be a place I would live if I was a newcomer. Vancouver is beautiful but you really pay for it. \nTrudeau has helped make a big mess of things with immigration and lax criminal laws. My beef is not with immigrants I must state - it is with the lack of jobs for them when they come, thereby forcing bad living conditions and an over reliance on the social systems. I add that the immigration population is much more willing to work in jobs they have to take (despite a high education) than our natural and bloated citizens.\nSo yes, Canada has increasingly gone downhill. On a positive note, hand guns at least are not legal and our country has beautiful natural land.

One can argue that mass immigration from Europe change aboriginal local culture in Canada and now it is changing again due to recent mass immigration so why is this a problem now? People complaining do not acknowledge that Canada created a corrupt system where educational institution made money from foreign students, foreign student in return were happy as long as they got to work (atleast they are willing to work) for money but the moment money is taken away, they feel cheated. These foreign student are not entitle to a PR card when they knowing came to Canada as a students. In fact, we should look at the root cause of these problems. It is the colleges making money off these immigrants, it is the corporate who do not want to pay decent living wages to Canadians so they are hiring these immigrants at a minimum wages jobs. This is called capitalism where the corporate has to save as much money as possible for their share holders. So yes immigration is a huge problems but immigrant alone are not at fault. Fault lies with the government (federal, provincial and municipal) and the corporate entities in Canada as well.

No immigrant regardless of where they come from should be allowed to stay unless they can successfully earn their PR through meeting the appropriate criteria. If you can do that then i hope you find happiness and love in your new home, welcome.

I'm Indo-Canadian, and I want you out to. It used to be quality immigrants from India. The US now is taking them all (top CEOs, entrepreneurs, researchers and scientists there are of Indian origin if they aren't Chinese). But in Canada we're opening the doors to the worst of India - Sikhs and Sikhism (fanatical bearded towel heads). You won't be happy here eating crap from food banks and living crammed in small flats. I blame Trudeau and his plan for more Sikhs and having them throughout the government agencies including police and defense, a severe terror risk to both nations.

I immigrated to Canada from China eleven years ago. If Canada eleven years ago was what it is today, I would never give up everything I have in China and immigrate to this country. I plan to return to China next year, back to where I grew up. Compared to here, China has been making progress in the past ten years, and the most direct thing is that people's living standards are getting higher and higher, and they are safe. It is safe for a lady to walk alone on the street at midnight, and this is true because my family still lives in China. So, if you're not happy here, why not China. You can travel to there first to see the real China instead of beliving the fake news!

Canadians don’t hate Indians, but Canadians are not happy to convert Canada into a new India. \nThis is not acceptable to have a culture dominate Canada and take over. Just remember, just because the majority of commenters here are not happy with Germany, it doesnt mean that all immigrants there are having a rough time ? there are plenty of happy ones too. \n\nPlenty of reports like this also showing unhappy people moving out of other countries like the Netherlands too. ie. Ive lived in Rotterdam and Amsterdam before, it's not my cup of tea. \n\nGrass is always greener on the other side I suppose ?

See you are a respectful and good citizen who we would have no problem welcoming to Canada. It's the others who are ignorant and who do not respect our countries culture. If you plan to immigrate you must respect our culture and act as nice or nicer than the reputation us Canadians have. The reason we are upset with some Indians is they have no respect. Some of them throw their garbage everywhere on the streets on the beaches on our walkways. I get in India the culture there may allow you to throw garbage in the streets and lakes and rivers. We do not do that here. Either way something has to change the government needs to fix this problem they created. Also why did they allow so many Indians what about Immigrants from other countries? It seems like all they did was mass import people from India. They can hardly even speak English. No disrespect I am just saying from someone who was born in Canada and whose parents grandparents and great grandparents and beyond were all born in Canada how we feel the way our country is being disrespected. It does not make us happy. But let me stress that I know there are kind respectable people from India who come here and are helping Canada. Hey,\n\nI don’t know how popular you are but I am hoping that you (or someone else reading) can make some short shareable etiquette videos for Indian immigrants. I am constantly annoyed by the following, but because I was born in Canada, I would be cancelled for saying the things you can. I am also Indian. Here’s the list that comes to mind. I might come back and edit this because I am sure there are things I am forgetting: \n\n- coughing into your elbow instead of your hands (literally watched a guy yesterday on the bus cough into his hands then put his hands onto the support bar)\n\n- Standing to the side and letting people off the train so you can get on instead of trying to walk through people who are trying to get off \n\n- Standing up and moving to the side to let somebody off on an inside seat of the bus. I have a butt. I don’t want to be squeezing by you \n\n- Taking off their backpack while standing on the bus and putting it between their legs\n\n- Moving to the back of the bus instead of crowding by the doors\n\n- Standing in lines to get onto the bus instead of crowding\n\n- Not littering. Either put your garbage in the bin or take it with you. Stop leaving it on the beach or on hiking trails.\n\n- Learn about hiking before attempting it. We have people going up in jeans and flip flops in the evening and getting stuck on mountains or injured. Some wear running shoes but they don’t have enough traction for the trail\n\n- Shovel the sidewalk in front of your home when it snows\n\n- Stop dousing yourself with axe body spray. \n\n- Understand that Indian food makes your clothes smell. It gives off oils that get stuck in everything. Open your windows and doors when cooking to minimize this as much as possible. You won’t be able to resolve this entirely but do what you can. The skytrain now smells like Indian food even when empty. \n\n- Stop riding your bikes and scooters on the sidewalk. It’s illegal and you have a responsibility to learn the rules \n\n- Stop hiring everybody that you know. Before nepotism was all about networking, but nowadays, it seems to be about hiring Indian people that you know. I am being discriminated by employers because they think I will do the same once I am in. Diversity in teams matters. Indian immigrants don’t seem to believe in this and think all that matters is the most qualified get the job. This is how you end up building facial recognition models that don’t recognize Black people. \n\n- You work at McDonald’s. Stop blasting Indian music. The McDonald’s by my place is blasting Indian music from the back and it overtakes the restaurant music. \n\n- In a work environment, even if it is all Indians, speak English. You ostracize your fellow colleagues and customers. You are also not improving your English skills by speaking in your primary language.\n\n- Make an effort to make non-Indian friends. It’s really intimidating even as an Indian to see large packs of Indian men\n\n- Learn how to swim. Every year we have multiple drownings at a lake because Indian people are unprepared for the reality of the water. This is a basic safety skill.\n\n- Stop staring at women. Even as an Indian woman I get stared at by these guys. Just stop. \n\n- Get headphones. Playing music or having conversations on speakerphone in public places is rude and very inconsiderate of others \n\n- Stop cheating. Whether that’s cheating the system or during classes. We grow up here and environment that even though we can cheat, the culture makes it completely unethical and you just don’t. The consequences are significant. I get it that you come from a country that doesn’t have enough resources for its population, but you give the entire Indian community a bad name when you cheat, lie, and do other unethical things.\n\n- Learn about Canadian values. The Canadian charter of rights and freedoms exists. Under it cases were won supporting equality for women, LGBTQ rights, etc. this is built into our constitution and it’s so ridiculous to come across people who don’t adopt Canadian values. Why choose Canada if you want a culture of what’s back at home. \n\n- I get it that our healthcare system needs to improve but am disappointing reading advocacy for private healthcare in Indian Facebook groups in Canada. Tommy Douglas was voted as the greatest Canadian. He is the founding father of our nationalized healthcare system. For the most part, Canadian are happy that we don’t have a healthcare system like the United States, where your access is determined by your employer or your income. We don’t go bankrupt when we have a health emergency. Go back to India or go to another place where you can pay for private healthcare, but stop advocating to transition our healthcare system to a private system. While you’re at it go look up who was determined to be some of the greatest Canadians.

More than the immigrants, the government is at fault. Their policy is at fault. I have votes Liberal for the first Trudeau government. I was not happy with the first Trudeau government. So I voted Conservative the next two times. I am not sure Conservatives would fix Canada. Conservatives are in power in Ontario. What have the Conservatives done for Ontario?

Now not only immigrants but also Canadian-born citizens are fleeing Canada, which has been systematically and in every sense turned into a disgraceful, unbearable and unlivable country by the state itself, without even looking back, and they are now leaving Canada in droves. As of 2016 alone, the number of Canadians who left Canada and settled in other countries has exceeded 4 million people, and now another 500,000 people have been added to this figure between 2017 and 2023. In 2022 alone, in just 1 year, the number of Canadian citizens who fled to America alone has exceeded 123,000, and we are not even counting Canadians who fled to other countries, and these annual numbers are definitely not falling below hundreds of thousands anymore. Canada has now been transformed into a country of disappointment and regret, and it is no longer those who come to Canada, but on the contrary, those who manage to escape from Canada who feel happy and safe. The basis of these wholesale escapes is that they are very arrogant, very educated, and very conscious. The Canadian State, which is completely the enemy of the people and society, not Canadians and Canadianness, has a bad record regarding serious human rights violations. Moreover, the overwhelming majority of the people in Canada are not very conscious, well-read, or very educated, in fact, many of them are so incapable of seeing the realities right under their noses that they smoke marijuana, they are an uneducated, ignorant, apolitical and unresponsive mass. In Canada today, only 30 percent of the population is a university graduate and in Canada with a population of 40 million, only 2 million people are studying at universities today, and those who graduate do not stay in Canada anyway, those who receive their diplomas immediately go to America. In my last 6 months here, Me and my Family had a very positive experience meeting supportive and friendly people. Specially my daughter was really happy and quickly integrated with the support of very precise education system. However, language remains the main barrier to us on integrating fully. Yes ,as an immigrants, it's essential to learn the language to truly become part of the culture and community, but it's challenging to achieve this in a short period. even it says short of Skill employees , Professionals like me who had a successful career back home makes its really difficult to find a job due to language barrier. I wish there were a proper mechanism to help candidates like us find jobs while we learn the language, We are eager to work, earn, and contribute to the economy.

To all people here that object to Germany not making everything English-speaking.\n\nIn my experience working with a large German corporation, when in a remote meeting of 200+ people a handful of people say they prefer the meeting to be held in English, it’s going to be in English, even if it means that the speakers will automatically dumb down the content by 80%, have problems with vocabulary, and struggle to get across the finer details. The documentation for IT stuff will be written in approximate English to please the 3-5% readers who just wanted to earn a higher wage for a few years, but not commit to the culture of their host country.\n\nIf both sides speak only a second language and not their mother tongue, what are the chances of ever feeling like you really understand the other? It’s like shaking hands wearing gloves. If you come to Germany or any other non English speaking country, and feel at home there, commit. Learn the language. Embrace the cultural differences. Germans are reserved on the surface, it takes some effort for them to warm to strangers. I left Canada finally after many many years of debating for myself. It’s the best thing I ever did. I have a really good job, that pays me more than three times my monthly overhead. After literally struggling in Canada for 30+ years as an adult trying to keep a job amongst colleagues that hate you for everything that I was and wasn’t, had and didn’t have. I’m very happy that I left and can go to work peacefully everyday, without needing to feel like I’m a piece of crap that doesn’t have the right to exist. I came to Canada at age 12 with my parents. And was always called names, always under minded, overlooked, put down, bullied and never had a single job that also contributed to my pension. It’s much safer, friendlier, empathic and prosperous than Canada ever was

I love it how the video conveniently omits the reason why the housing supply is so inadequately low in Canada - real-estate developers and rental agencies lobbying all levels of government to keep zoning laws draconian and to make new construction increadibly difficult. For example, an enormous proportion of Toronto's urban area is still zoned exclusively for single-family housing. The landlords, who are currently extracting record profits from regular people with no sign of decline, are more than happy to shift the blame towards immigrants, and it saddens me to see that respectable media outlets like the Guardian are becoming a part of it.

It doesn’t mean goodbye forever \nCanada is quickly going down the drain, especially our healthcare system. The country is unrecognizable. I travel for living across Canada, and I have seen how even small towns have changed over the last decade. High crime and excessive immigration are just a few things. We have no one to blame but our current Prime Minister. How quickly our beautiful country changed. I lived in Ottawa all my life, but currently living and working in a small remote area in the Northwest Territories. Because I am a licensed, healthcare professional, It is not easy for me to work in another country and it will definitely mean a huge salary cut, but I am considering doing this as I am no longer feeling happy living in Canada. Canada's not the same as current PM has ruined it. Chaos will get worse before it gets better with a new leader to fix it. Immigrant's always entered through Sask because it was the easiest to get citizenship. When term was over they went West or East. There are 2 types of immigrant's today, those who want a chance for better life and adapt and those who want to destroys our values (which's' what what we're seeing today). Being born and raised in Sask doesn't feel like home anymore into today's world. East and West looks worse. I'd be happier living abroad!! My fellow non-Germans….Don’t make the mistake of coming to Germany right now. The country will sooner or later have a crisis due to its politics and their companies falling behind in competitiveness due to incompetence and arrogance. Instead of blaming themselves, they will blame immigrants, including you. Also, if you are a qualified foreigner, you will have to come to terms with being a second class resident, watching how natives enjoy their life and expect you to do their work. Only “luxury jobs” with a strong union like IG Metall will ensure you a fair treatment. But most of these jobs are occupied by 55+ yo people that are waiting for retirement without innovating or contributing absolutely nothing to their company. \nThe woman in the video is happy because she married a local (for love of course). With her low salary as a nurse she would be absolutely miserable and lonely. The Indian guy has a family, and well, he comes from India.
