Couldn't be more proud of being Canadian. As an American-born who holds dual citizenship, I am incredibly ashamed of being associated with the USA in any capacity nowadays. Trudeau should go a step further and label Trump the soft fascist authoritarian he seeks to become.

As a German - apart from the content which is no less than justified - just technically comparing Trudeau´s speech with Donald Trump´s verbal outcome - what an incredible difference in niveau & tone. Isn't it almost tragic how little skill it took to run the U.S and even worse, how low the common-sense-threshold must be for a half of the American people to make this happen a second time. We in the EU should stand by Canada and offer whatever support is necessary, including financial grants if needed. We should also match Canada by imposing our own 25% tariffs on the same goods and services, acting as a force multiplier. If the ‘Mango Mussolini’ refuses to listen to reason, he must feel the consequences of these actions. Hang in there, Canada! You are an incredible tough people and while your country is mentally prepared for this trade war, the US have not given it a single thought… they will be surprised and the madman will fold

A thought experiment:\nImagine that the Canadian government was given a magic technology that could build five million new homes overnight and assign them by lottery to people who didn't currently own a home.\nWould the government push the button to build the homes and give them to people who needed a home?\nNope. It would not.\nWhy?\nBecause the price of existing houses and apartments in Canada would drop by at least 50% overnight. And in our new, insane, everything-is-financialized, asset-prices-are-the-most-important-thing world, that would be deemed unacceptable.\nJust chew on that for a moment: we have a society, an economy, a governing and property owning class, that would prefer to forego the incredible quality of life increases for the population of magicking 5 million homes into existence, than to lose the valuations of a resource that is so scarce that demand grossly outstrips supply.\nWe live in a world of utter madness.

This video is horrible. I don't know what political angle is, but the real problems are very well known and have nothing to do with what you said. First, housing is incredibly difficult to build in Canada because of regulations and land title problems, I.e., you don't own that land, the indians do. On top of that, there is a constant influx of immigrant that require housing that doesn't exist. Children cry because they cannot leave their parents' houses because they can't move anywhere, so they can't find any jobs locally, and they're trapped. There is no will in the canadian government to change these immigration policies, to change the land rules so that people can own land and build houses, or do anything about their incredibly micro managed economy that makes it impossible to do anything. If so, yeah, they go to the US to have a future while Canada stagnants and dies.

You should be more concerned with median income or statistics that omit the top 1% as that is the reality the vast majority are living. In 2021, Canada was top 5 in the world in median disposable income. Finally, the US’s financial services and healthcare are big contributors to the US GDP while both have their problems (financial services don’t make the lives of the general public any better and US healthcare is incredibly inefficient). So, comparing the GDP of these countries is not a fair comparison.

Its actually incredibly easy for someone to get a student, or work visa from Africa, and come to Canada.

I find it incredible it took another nation to light the fire what the citizens have been asking from out politicians....when Canadian got fed up with vehicle theft, our Politicians said...oh we're meeting with the manufacturers.....not one piece of legislation was passed forcing car makers to make auto theft more difficult....and if you are caught, you are released on bail and the thief is out stealing again.

At one time no South American country would have dared defy a US president and risk invasion and regime change, now they all openly defy Trump with abandon since the rise of BRICS. Colombia has applied to join BRICS and these retaliatory tariffs will simply speed that up. Supply bulldozers and rubble removing machinery to clean the land up as quickly as possible, as well as bomb detection kits to protect the children. The Gazan people are incredibly resilient and will happily live in tents whilst their country is being rebuilt around them, and the State of Palestine begins to emerge again. \n??
